Music-has-stopped when connecting to GEAR

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FORUM
I have a diagnostic message appearing, that reads "Unfortunately, Music has stopped".
This pertains to the ANDROID MUSIC player and bluetooth connection with Galaxy Gear.
This report contains:
- My analysis of the problem.
- Various incidents which trigger the problem.
- Other incidents which don't trigger the problem.
- Conclusions of source/cause of the bug.
- Recommended ways to cope with the problem.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ANALYSIS
MY SITUATION
------------
I have a Galaxy Note-3 (SGN3), running and locked on the Canadian Bell network. It is stock ROM.
I have a Galaxy Gear SGG).
I have installed numerous apps, all from the Google Play store and Samsung store. No apps are from 3rd party stores.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
INCIDENT #1 - BLUETOOTH CONNECTED
---------------------------------
This occurs only when the SGN3 engages the SGG via bluetooth connection.
I have bluetooth enabled on SGN3, then turn on SGG, within a few seconds the SGN3 bluetooth window detects the SGG, immediately afterwards the MUSIC diagnostic appears. I can clear the message window, then carry on. Both SGN3 and SGG will thereafter work fine.
INCIDENT #2 - BLUETOOTH DISCONNECTED
------------------------------------
This occurs only when the Galaxy Note-3 (SGN3) already has a bluetooth connection with the Galaxy Gear (SGG).
I then disconnect the bluetooth connection on the SGN3 from hearing the SGG; this can be done by either: 1) power off the SGG or 2) toggling off the bluetooth receiver on SGN3. Once the bluetooth connection is broken between the SGN3 and SGG, then the same diagnostic message appears.
INCIDENT #3 - ANDROID MUSIC PLAYER
----------------------------------
This occurs only when the Galaxy Note-3 (SGN3), irrespective of bluetooth or Galaxy Gear (SGG). I merely open the MUSIC app on the SGN3. The app opens for a moment, the app window pauses for 5 seconds, then the same diagnostic message appears. I then clear the message, and the app continues. At this point I haven't selected any song file to play. When I click on a song file for playing, then the diagnostic message appears. The song file doesn't play, and never can with repeated attempts.
INCIDENT #4 - MEDIA CONTROLLER APP ON GEAR
------------------------------------------
This service mostly works properly, presuming I am already playing music on the SGN3 from any of the other music player apps (but not ANDROID MUSIC). I can successfully: play, pause, skip foreward, skip backwards. However, as a minor bug: if I attempt to change the sound volume, while the sound will change, 10-secs later the diagnostic message appears on the SGN3. The message repeats unprovocated after 60-secs. Thereafter, the controller commands become disfunctional.
The remedy is to either:
- Stop/start the music player on the SGN3.
- Toggle the bluetooth connection off-and-on.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHEN MESSAGE DOES NOT APPEAR .. GOOD
The following situations do not trigger the diagnostic message:
OTHER MUSIC PLAYERS
-------------------
Running any other music player, other than ANDROID MUSIC, does not cause a problem. They all successfully play song files.
- "Google Play Music"
- "Poweramp Pro"
- "ES File Manager" - embedded music player.
- "X-plore audio preview" - embedded music player.
- "Sound player" from android "My Files" - embedded music player.
SGN3 BLUETOOTH RADIO KEPT OFF
-----------------------------
This occurs when
SGN3 BLUETOOTH TOGGLED ON, BUT SGG POWERED OFF
----------------------------------------------
This is when one wants to use bluetooth devices (headphones) other than SGG. In this case, the recognition of the connected bluetooth device is proper and not message triggering occurs.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ CONCLUSIONS
ANDROID MUSIC
-------------
Bug exists in:
1) opening of the app, and
2) attempting to play selected song file.
MEDIA CONTROLLER
----------------
Bug exists in:
3) sound volume control, within the app.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ RECOMMENDATIONS
BLUETOOTH TOGGLING
------------------
When connecting SGG with the SGN3 over bluetooth, accept that a diagnostic message will occur and must be cleared. Thereafter, the SGG and SGN3 will function adequately.
When disconnecting SGG from the SGN3 over bluetooth, accept that a diagnostic message will occur and must be cleared. Thereafter, the SGN3 will function perfectly.
Never use the ANDROID MUSIC player on the SGN3. Instead use any alternative player, such as Google Play Music.
MEDIA CONTROLLER
----------------
Before using the MEDIA CONTROLLER app on the SGG, select an alternative music player on the SGN3. This selection must be done each time the SGN3 and SGG make a bluetooth connection. Thereafter you can use the MEDIA CONTROLLER to control your music playing on the SGN3. This selection is lost after bluetooth disconnection, for which the default reverts to ANDROID MUSIC.
Never change the sound volume within the MEDIA CONTROLLER.
