Any Key Answer / Active screen - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

This one's got me stumped, I may just be overlooking a simple answer but it hasn't happened previously on my Magician or Vario before.
I carry my Vario III around in a large coat pocket for most of the time. I have a lot of appointments and calls which activate the screen when they occur. I then have the problem when fishing around for the device that a) I answer the call from touching the screen, b) End the call from touching the screen, c) Open a load of different apps where the appointments have made the screen go live and the movement in the pocket has brushed the screen.
All I want to do is use only the hardware buttons ie. Answer, End, Power button. Where can I find the settings for this? The "key settings" menu or "buttons" doesn't cover it so where is it? It's driving me mad!

Hold down the 'red' phone button to lock all but 'Power' and 'Unlock' soft key.
You can still answer a call as normal when it comes in with the with the 'green' phone key.

Thanks. I know about the standard lock, but then you're into multi key press territory to unlock it. I just wondered if someone knew of a way (or program) that once the screen was off it stayed off until the answer, reject or power button was pressed and then in the case of the power button the device returns to "normal".

I'm not sure if your idea would be very viable. The screen has to come on so that you can see who's calling!
Pretty pointless to reject a call when you don't know who it is.
I understand what you are trying to get at but wouidn't you still have the problem of not being able to use any other functions within a call like looking up a Contact or checking your Calendar. Hitting the Power button during a call to get back to normal use would be a bit 'hit n miss'.

Thanks for the reply. I agree it's not ideal and I guess if it was something everyone wanted someone would have brought a .CAB out for it. That my Q answered in any case. Thanks again.

Try searching the forum for 'S2U2'. It might be what you're looking for.

That should cover it just fine. Thanks for the pointer.

Nice one helterskelter
Didn't think he would want to open it to answer a call thats all as he seems to have big fingers and hit everything but 'Answer'
No, sorry, just my dark humour...
Hope you are sorted.

Annoying Problem

Hi
I don't know if anyone has experienced this or has a fix for it.
I picked up my Tytn II last week and I must say it's a cracking piece of kit. I seem to be experiencing a problem though.
If I say for example make a voice call and then hang up. I find that the word "phone" replaces the start menu in the top left hand corner of the screen. This wont default back to start and effectively makes the whole top row of icons inoperable. Ie battery status volume control etc. I have found this problem when using other apps, ie calendar, so it's not specific to just making voice calls.
The only way to get the top row of icons working again is to do a soft reset
All icons not on the top row seem to work ok (apart from keylock)
Any ideas ??

Dont soft reset... just hit the power button to go into standby, then hit it again and the device will work again.
Hey presto it worked. Thanks for that. It's a bit annoying having to do that though.

Its not a fix... its just a workaround.
When you end calls. Try first pressing the end call button, then the ok button.

Waking from Sleep Mode (Tilt)

Is there a way to wake the phone from its sleep mode without opening up the keyboard? That's the only way I can figure out.
Thanks!
A quick press of the power button on the side will wake it up.
This is written in the instruction manual.
You should have read that before using the phone.
reaffect power button
is-it possible to use another button instead of the power button in order to power on/off the screen?
Yes - if you disable the setting that stops all the other buttons from waking the device up (to avoid answering calls and making calls etc when its in your pocket).
man that power button is hard to push though. am i the only one who has trouble finding it by touch alone? i was thinking of carving out an indentation in the casing to help my thumb 'find' it, but thought better of it....

what i do is set the keys to lock when the phone is locked then use s2u to serve as the lock. I havent accidently called anyone yet so i think its the quickest way to resolve the issue not to mention i like the way it makes my phone look

I saw someone did a simple mod to make it easier to find. Dont remember where i saw it. if it find it'll post a link.
but what they did was bought a little "nub" from a craft store and glued it to the power button to make it stick out more so it was easier to find. It looked pretty good and probably did help in this situation. I've thought about doing the same.
That said, I essentially did what Neva said in the last post. I use S2U2 (Slide2Unlock2) to lock the phone. And I set my phone to be "awakened" by any key press. And S2U2 is config'd to always run on wakeup. So I can't make a phone call by accident. it works great.
You can set the phone to awaken on any key press by setting here:
Settings | System | Key Lock | Do not lock buttons
Here's the link to the Power Button mod...

Amazing what you can find if you search the forum.

Lock Screen or put into "standby"? Best set-up?

Hey guys,
Right, I've come over from symbian, namely UIQ and the SE P-series, so am used to things being somewhat different. The main issue I don't seem to be able to find a solution to is the screen locking problem.
Essentially, at the moment I push the power button to lock the device, as well as enter a power save mode. I have to say, I like the way that works. However, when I recieve a call (or text with the reg fix) the phone comes to life, great, but say I miss the call, or the phone is in my pocket, the screen is now ACTIVE. Not good news.
How am I supposed to lock this device properly? Screen lock and then the power button? Can't I get a simple tap on the power button to lock and power save the device?
Essentially, if I have a missed call or message I just want the phone to vibrate once, then keep an LED flashing intermittently. But I want the screen to stay LOCKED.
Any help would be much appreciated, and thanks for all the other useful tips on the forum!
Cheers,
Daz.
Go start/settings/System/Long Press End Key
Select automatically execute etc
and Lock device
then OK
then, a long press on the hang up button (bottom right) will lock the phone.
Hope that helps
Perhaps I didn't explain myself. I know how to lock the phone, but how do I make use of the power button tap mode? In other words, the power saving mode?
Can I set up a button that locks the phone, AND sends it to power save mode? (or "turn it off" as WM seems to call it).
Thanks again,
Daz.
I found a regedit in:
HKLM\Software\HTC\KeyLock\SameAsDeviceLock
Set it to 1, but it doesn't do the trick. In fact, it now causes the power button click to not lock the keys.
I suppose the only option is to have standby mode come on after a timeout, lock the device, then it will go into standby on its own. Seems like a slight waste of battery to me!
Cheers,
Daz.
I really want this to work too,
It should unlock and turn on when recieving a call, it should just turn on when recieving an sms (so you can have a quick look from who it is, and then unlock to reply)
and when you lock the device it should automatically turn off...
Not EXACTLY what you want, but S2U2 in the "Development and Hacking" section will improve matters for you.
When you turn the phone off with the power button, S2U2 kicks in. Then:
1) If you turn the phone back on, you'll get the slide to unlock screen.
2) If a call comes in, the phone turns on and you see the caller ID (with full screen picture, if you so desire) on a "slide to answer" screen. The S2U2 default settings ensure that the phone turns itself back off again if you fail to answer it.
3) If a text / e-mail / mms comes through, it notifies you but remains off... When you hit the power button, the "slide to unlock" screen will show missed calls, text messages, e-mails (and even the weather if you want...).
Check it out, it's an essential piece of software in my opinion... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=381588
Thanks sub69, great recommendation. However, does anyone else get the bug when hitting the "x" in other applications to close them, the status bar (Or task bar) goes all scrambled and looks like the S2U2 status bar.
Shame this isn't built in though, would be nicer to see the TF3D interface rather than a 3rd party one.
Thanks again!
Daz.
Anyone with other suggestions? S2U2 is just a little too buggy at the moment on the diamond...
use "BatteryStatus" from www.chti-tai.info, they have a option for devicelock on wakeup, so even u missed a call, and the screen light up, it is still locked.
somone posted this on other thread.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now we don't need any devicelock software with diamond.
If you want automatic lock your diamond you have to change this registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\BackLight\AutoDevic eLockEnable from 0 to 1 and everytime your backlight goes off automatically your device are locked
Sorry for may bad english but i'm italian.
Ciao
Thanks for that reg fix, seems like a good option. There was a new S2U2 version release, 1.5, and that seems to work well for me. Will see how that goes for now...
Cheers guys! Daz.
the reg edit is good, but it doesn't solve the problem of unlocked touchscreen prone to being pressed during incoming call (when scrambling in your pocket to take out the phone)
btw there are several other threads where this problem is addressed and deeply analyzed (without a complete working solution, however...)
dazbradbury take a look at sensorlock, if you have not already.

How to prevent diamond from turning on by pressing dial/home keys?

I have experienced several times when carrying the diamond in my trouser pockets that it starts calling the latest caller 'automatically'. It is due to the fact that the diamond switches on after 'accidently' pressing the dial button. It then gets into dialing mode and pressing it again will start the re-dial.
Is there a way to prevent the diamond from switching on by pressing the dial or home key? I would like to be able only switching it on via the real power button. I don't like the standard locking method of the phone itself.
Any idea? maybe I didn't search well enough in the forums but it seems to be a hard thing to find.
S2U2 is one solution.

Mine doesn't do this. If the screen is off then only the power button will bring it back on. Unless I've misunderstood your problem?
Check in Start > Settings > Key lock if 'Lock all buttons except power button' is ticked. Is yours?
Mathew
Indeed, I completely overlooked that setting! Quite stupid though.
Thanks a lot! Just what I needed!
Easily done, particularly with settings strewn all over the place!

Screen bulges inward when Pressing START key

Hi all. I have a small question. When I press the left Soft key (Just under START)in my HTC S730, the screen (LCD) just above the button goes "inward" then when I release the button, it goes out (to normal). Its kind of the same effect if its a touchscreen. My friends HTC S730 does the same thing. Can anyone with an HTC S730 tell me if yours does the same thing. Its clear when you have the background with a black color. I don't know if this is normal or maybe me and my friend bought bad ones. Thanks.
No ONE?
I see that people are reading my post. But no one with an HTC S730 can reply??? Come on guys.
DOES THE SCREEN JUST ABOVE THE "START" BUTTON GOES INWARD WHEN PRESSING THE LEFT SOFT KEY BUTTON????????
Thanks.
had some test right now
if i press the sx softkey normally nothing happens
but if i press it with some power (i.e as when i tapping on the desk to hear the woodden noises or playng a key on an old piano) the display goes inward
but it is a millesimal issue, nothing to be notable if you didn't say me! (i had asked to test to my brother too, without advise he about the screen "game", he cannot see any differences)
is our screen "game" mostly evident?
(maybe it could be a fabbric disguise or an accidental fall?)
Thanks
thanks for the reply. And sorry you did not noticed this until now because of me. But mine is very noticeable. Whenever I press the START soft key button I see the inward effect. Does not need to be a hard press to show. I just wanted to know if this is normal with the device built. Thanks again for the reply.
