My original Tilt stopped charging the battery so I got a warranty replacement. I restored my last Sprite Backup file on to the new Tilt and after completing the restore the new Tilt wouldn't accept my device PIN number. At first I thought in my haste I had somehow made a typeo (not realizing that of course it would have the same PIN as on the original phone after restoring the Sprite file) so I called ATT. They walked me through the hard reset procedure which I knew very well from owning the 8525 since the day it came out, Nv. 17, 2006. No dice. No matter how hard I tried to hard reset it just did a soft reset so they sent me another warranty replacement phone. Got that today and mad sure to not enter any PIN before restoring the Sprite file. Performed a Sprite restore and bam! Same problem. Call HTC and ATT and discover that apparently the version Sprite built into the ROM as a "Extra Security" doesn't allow you to restore on to a new phone. So now I have to wait for another (Third) warranty replacement phone to Arrive On Friday (I missed the overnight deadline this time) and I was hoping one of you geniuses might now a way out of this predicament without flashing a non authorized ROM. I have considered it many time but am not ready to make that plunge right now. Also, I am wondering if I install the commercial version of Sprite and back up my original phone will I be able to restore that on the new Tilt when it arrives. I suppose I would have to upgrade from my windows Mobile 5 version of Sprite I had on my 8525. In the mean time at least these two brand new Tilts are good for something, I can use them to charge my battery that won't charge in my original Tilt. Thanks in advance for your help.
Brian
Try this: Open SpriteSelect the options menu & "switch to advanced mode" Click option menu, select restore options & check "enable device upgrade mode". Note: this will restore most of the device programs & settings, however not all.

hi everybody, somewhat new to this forum and really enjoying it
i've came across a problem with my att tilt and searched for about 2 days straight looking for a solution..i couldnt find one
so a little history of what i've done with my tilt..
-removed all of att programs by 'clear storage' and then pushing the soft reset before it loads
-downloaded the htc home plugin, htc home customizer, wizard dialer, kaiser tweak with the new xml file from dec 2007, and i have a black theme and a san francisco bridge theme that i switch back to
now the problem is I CANT MAKE/RECEIVE PHONE CALLS/TEXT
one thing i notice is that the network or service it is using (G, E, or 3G) is mostly on E and that is when i cannot make make or received calls or text, even with full bars. i've never had this problem before until about a week now
the last thing i did to my phone was download the new dec 2007 xml file for kaiser tweak. the phone worked fine for about a week until my problem occured
the only time i can get my phone to work is when it is in 3G or G and i rarely see those being used on my phone.
i've tried clear storage a bunch of times to see if it would change but it doesnt
i believe this isnt a network problem because everyone in my house has att, i can only thing its a phone problem
if anyone has any solutions or comments please help me out
i've had this phone since thanksgiving so worst case scenario, i turn it in to htc to get a new one
thanks
anybody ever run into this problem or anything similar with their tilt?
Did you allow the network config tool to run after the first reset? Are you using a custom rom or the default?
what radio are you running?
im not sure what the network config tool is and im using a default rom
im not sure what radio im using, how do i got about finding out what radio im using?
If you don't mind losing all of your data do a hard reset (hold the two soft keys and press the sytlus in the bottom of the phone) Go ahead and set up the device...once this is done a dialogue box should pop up saying something about Autoconfig will take place, or something like that. Let this proceed all on its own...it should after its done ask if you want to soft-reset now, select yes and you should be in business.
what are the two soft keys?
and also..does it matter if i have a simcard in the phone or not?
is the 'clear storage' the same as the hard reset?
hard reset is to hold the two soft keys and the stylus button on the bottom
what are the two soft keys?
Clear Storage essentially is, but mentally for me its different . In any event the soft keys are the unmarked keys directly to the right of your green call button and to the left of the red end button. After autoconfig/customization takes place...it probably will load all the crap back on the device, just FYI. If you truly want to get rid of stuff, you'll probably want to start researching ultra-clean roms, but from the sounds of things you're not quite ready to get into that yet, and you can screw your device if you don't read up on things properly.
i've done the hard reset and let everything load after that..i have all the att bloat ware..but i didnt see a autoconfig for the network
im still having the same problem
my service/network only works on E, whenever it is on G or 3G, its one bar and when i try to call or text, the phone disconnects and goes to E
any other advice?
Hmm, how old is your sim card?
I had the same problem. I had a few 3rd party applications installed. I called Att, they tried calling themselves with obviously no luck (busy signal, or straight to voicemail). I took out the sim card and tried my 2 year old phone and it worked fine. They sent me a replacement 2 days ago and it has been working fine since.
my sim card is about 2 years old i think
it looks like im gonna have to get a replacement
thanks for your help guys
I'd try a new sim card first...had a similar problem with my kaiser at first, but not quite the same. It may save you the days of a non-working unit. Sim cards are free and quick (just go to your local att store)
i used a friends sim card..same thing
i tried calling att TWICE and they said it might be a network problem and told me to call back later???
its obvious i need a new phone
who should i contact and what should i do..im trying to return my phone to get a working one

How long have you had your phone?
If it is under 30 days, go back to an AT&T Store (even if you bought it via phone or online) they will exchange it for you. If you don't have an account, MAKE SURE you take your receipt. If you are an AT&T customer you don't even have to bother with the receipt, they will just look up your account for you.
If you are an AT&T customer (may also apply if your not) and have had your phone over 30 days, then you have to call warranty exchange department. 1-800-801-1101
They will go through a few steps with you, then will make arrangements to send you out a new phone.
BEWARE:
Make sure you have LOTS of free time when you call, you WILL be on the phone forever lol.
I am on my 5th Tilt, I hope you have better luck than I have so far
*BUMP* I recently came across the same problem and I am only able to send and recieve text messages. I can not recieve or send calls but I get a new voicemail notification when 1 is recieved.... HELP!!!
i installed some programs the htc today menu, and slick. now my phone will not turn on. i backed up my phone and did a hard reset then i reinstalled all of my programs.
then when i turn off the phone i can not turn it back on again. it is a cycle and i am assuming it is because of the programs on my phone. what can i do?
also i have a very important number stored on my phone and not onto my sim, i dialed it once but the other person did not pick up. is there a way i can retreive that number? AT&T support says they can not give me any info

for the number: check your bill, or if you can access the account online you can find it there.... if you at least connected to their voicemail for a second you will have a log of it.
as for the issue with the phone not starting... try a hard reset, dont install extras, and see if the issue exists w/o the software installed.. I find it hard to think a program installed within windows would prevent the phone from starting up at all... but then again, how are you hard reseting the phone if you cant turn it on ?
i had no luck with the number. I dialed it when she gave it to me. yeah i picked up a girl and we exchanged numbers. I saved it onto the phone, not the sim ( dumb mistake it seems)
also, I kept doing the soft reset and the this white screen comes up saying how i shut down improperly or a program i installed messed something up, please press SEND to restart the device or any other button. So this happened to me about three times now, all started after i restored a backup.
I guess the main thing i need assistance is to retrieve that number. I don't want to miss this date. AT&T could not help because i didn't reach her VM and she didn't pick up when we exchanged numbers.
thanks i guess i'll just reset my device with the aforementioned route and just save everything onto my sim card
After you do a hard reset all your data will be lost, incl. your date number unless u have backed up to file into ur PC or storage card.
Hi, I am in need of some help with my MDA Compact which is on a T-Mobile contract.
I am having a number of issues, a lot which have occured since I got it just over a year ago but I have lived with until now. The main issue I have with it now which is quite a major issue is that I am not receiving all of my calls!
I have had a number of people say that they cannot get in touch with me as their call to my phone goes straight to answerphone as if its switched off or has no signal. I then later get a text from T-Mobile saying I have a missed call. Now I know its not turned off and this fault is occuring in full strength signal areas so I assume it is a fault with the phone or software.
I was told by T-Mobile that they needed to send it away and it would be upto 2 weeks before I got it back, I cannot do without it for that long and my old Vario II's battery has died now so cant use that. They said it would just have a software update and I could do that myself.
The other issues I have had with it include....
Turning on screen and it totally freezes, nothing works including the power button, I have to remove the battery.
Press phone button to make a call and it takes me to the programs screen, this happens 2-3 times before sorting itself out.
Internet page gets stuck in ladscape mode or slow to return to portrait.
Hanging in screens and buttons slow to react
Crazed screen as if the screen is cracked, rebooting it is only cure.
On the make call screen, last two dialled numbers appear but keypad is missing although when you press the screen where the numbers should be they appear as each is pressed.
When receiving a message the phone vibrates and will not stop, it continues until phone is turned off.
I sometimes get a phantom unread email that is not there, have to delete email account and set it back up again to clear it.
Back of phone gets very hot when using Web 'n' walk
Also I have Sync'd with my old computer at work last year which was fine. I have downloaded Activesync 4.5(I think) to my laptop and connected my phone to try and back it up. It Sync's but will not copy any contacts, it says I have to disconnect device, download Outlook & open it but I already have Outlook(I have XP home edition 2002 SP3 & Outlook Express 6)
There have been many other faults which I cannot remember right now, I love the phone but I will end up binning it soon if I cannot sort it.
Now heres the problem, I would like to back up all my contacts etc then upgrade my phone but without voiding the warranty. Thing is I have not got a clue where to start.
I have a good basic knowledge of computers but reading the site talking about cooking ROM's etc baffles me a bit.
I need a basic step by step guide to doing this and the best upgrade without voiding the warranty if I can as I have 3-4 months contract left.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you wanna upgrade to any official TMobile ROM for your device, just select one from either official site (TMobile support or HTC support, dunno how you receive support for your device) or you can find it over here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Diamond_Upgrades. If you scroll down on this page you will also find a direct link to Tmobile support.
If that's all you wanna do, then you're good to go as long as you follow the instructions of the RomUpdateUtility (RUU) that comes with the official ROM.
However, if you wanna unlock (which doesn't mean sim unlock) your phone to be able to flash (=upgrade) any ROM (custom, different language, different carrier etc etc), then prepare yourself for a serious piece of reading; everybody on this forum started this way, feeling overwhelmed with information and scared of bricking their phone and voiding warranty. Btw..these links are for GSM devices only. GSM is a device with a sim card, if you don't have a sim card then you have a CDMA device, and that's a differten story at some points.
This is a good way to start:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400402
You have to realize that if you unlock your phone you always gonna void your warranty; luckily there's also a way back to restore to factory settings; more info can be found over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537496
Before you start doing anything...write on a piece of paper:
- your actual SPL version
- your actual Radio version
- your actual ROM version
Google this forum to find the download links for this stuff and be sure you have those three (original) pieces (of software) stored and safe on your computer, to ensure you can always go back to factory settings.
Hope i gave you a start and good luck!
Oo.... Outlook express isn't the same as Outlook, To be able to sync your device via Activesync you have to have Outlook from Microsoft Office installed on your computer

Darn it, knew there would be something!
Thats great, thanks for your help.
BTW, do you think that the update will cure the receiving calls issue?

Honestly, i have no clue if upgrading would solve your problem; your problems might just as well be hardware related, i really can't say.
My first shot would be an official software update from Tmobile, that indeed you can easily perform yourself, and no warranty issue, cuz it's all official.
And if that wouldn't do the trick, well, if i would have your performance on my diamond i wouldn't hestitate to send it in for repair if it still has warranty. That would be my second shot, cuz i think either Tmobile or HTC will/must do some hard- and software testing before returning the device to you, and if they can't solve the problem via software upgrade they have to perform hardware repair as well.
Can't you get a temporary device from the service center? I still have a almost new Qtek 9100 here for you to borrow at no costs, but i'm not responsible for any back or shoulder damage you get from walking around with that thing
I finally had enough of my D3 physical keyboard skipping, so Verizon is shipping me a "like new" replacement phone.
This is my second replacement, again due to the keyboard; the last time I had to rebuild my phone, I used Titanium Backup to backup all my apps+data from my original phone, then restore on the new phone (after rooting, installing Titanium Backup, etc.) It seems like that took more fiddling than I was expecting (no, I don't recall what I had to fiddle with, just that I had to switch my Verizon account back and forth a couple times during the process).
So recently it occured to me - can I use Safestrap to make a backup of my old phone and restore it on the "like new" phone? Has anyone done this? Can anyone think of why it would NOT work?
I also plan to first take a Safestrap backup the new phone and then restore that backup on the old phone, so I don't have to worry about SBF'ing my old phone back to what will look like a standard phone to Verizon, when I ship it back to them.
Thanks,
Chad
Sorry, i'm offtopic, but your D3, did you sbf back then send it back? I'm also sending my D3 after camera issues (and after I got my phone, game issues as well, as some games wouldn't play on my old D3) i'm just leery about the $500 fine warning for software mod. i did SBF before I popped the battery out...
and the answer would be yes, why not? The nandroid would have the exact stuff that would be recorded (almost, i think).. they are exact replicas, as long as it's still a Droid 3.

If you are receiving the exact same phone (Another Droid 3) you can make a full nandroid backup, then restore it to the new phone, then manually move the contents of the internal storage to the new phone. I've done this several times with a few Droid Xs and OG Droids.
You will then just have to have Verizon change the account to the new ESN and it'll be exactly like your old phone. It would be a good idea to SBF the phone back to stock before sending the defective one in, search the forum for a one-click method, there's several out there, just make sure you match your system (Mainly 890 or 906).

Just make sure you get back to stock. Verizon does not like us playing around!
First off, under the "Sure - what could go wrong?" philosophy, I restored the Safestrap backup from my defective phone onto the replacement one, and it worked. Mostly. A couple apps didn't restore, like "Bad Piggies", but I wasn't able to restore those via Titanium Backup, either. I found a directory on the internal SD card that looked like application data, so I copied that between the phones and the applications seem OK now, more or less. I also had to resync my Bluetooth headset. I may play with these things more later, and I'll see what else on the internal storage looks like it needs to be moved.
For the first replacement, I SBF'd back to stock before I shipped the phone back. This time, I plan to restore the Safestrap backup of the replacement phone (which I made before I started messing with it) onto the defective phone . Then I'll remove Safestrap, make sure the internal SD card doesn't have anything suspicious on it (like my Titanium Backup key), then ship the thing back to Verizon.
Thanks for all the advice!
Hello!
I am new to this forum and also completely new to phone modding etc.
I will shortly explain what situation I am in so maybe someone can enlighten me a little so I know what to do.
A year ago I bought a phone on polish trading site called Allegro.pl, for months it worked without issues, it was a brand new phone.
A few weeks ago a message popped on screen telling me the phone is now locked due to failure in monthly payments. (Previous owner).
I tried all ways of contacting the seller but to no avail. His phone number is off, he does not answer e-mails.
I decided to just ditch the phone and use some old backup phone I had saved. The problem however is that the old phone died and right now I can't afford buying a new one.
Getting this phone into a working condition (without any lock) is my only option so here are the things I have done so far:
I have flashed the latest Android 10 Firmware but right after the initial set up is done (after recovery) the phone locks.
There is no window with the information anymore however, but I can't use any of phone's options or apps in anyway.
I have found a way to bypass that for a brief moment and managed to turn OEM lock off and Enable USB debugging.
(When phone asks for Wi-Fi network I used my old SIM card and told the phone to connect using SIM's connection and right after the initial setup is done I quickly unplugged the SIM so the phone has no connection to internet anymore and the lock didn't start right away. It took me a while to figure it out, been sitting in front of my PC up until 5 am last night.)
If I install TWRP and a custom rom will it bypass the lock on the phone and will I be able to use it normally again?
Will I have to change the firmware somehow, or what exactly will I have to do to make use of the phone again?
IMEI's appear to not be locked as of now.
Any help, information, advice on this subject will be greatly appreciated!
