Bottom Silver keypad moves around . . - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone else has this issue? My thumb pad at the bottom of the Tilt; where the answer call, end call, e-mail, IE . . etc; move around. R your pads solid or do they move around too? If mine is the only one I'm getting my warranty on that thing!! Thanx for the help.

mine is like that too.. its a htc quality control issue. i posted a long thread about it.. my buddys does the same thing but my other buddys doesnt.

same here
same here..
at first i thought this would be a problem..but i guess it is not...
let me know

Ironically, I found out about that today as well. I don't think it is a major issue, but if it does escalate, you can use your warranty.

We've been down this road this week. There is already a thread out there and the bottom line is just like the service guy says at the BMW dealer: "Oh! Yeah! They all do that!"

Same here
Mine does that, ive been through 3 this week, and the ones in the store do it too. Its about to be the end of this damn phone for me.

Do y'all not realize that it's supposed to move like that? the silver piece of plastic with all the buttons on it also has a lip that's underneath. It is supposed to slide up and down a tad and not much from left to right. If you examine it closely, you'll also see that there really is no way this can fade or get super loose over time..

another question: can i replace this silver thing anyway? coz my windows logo broke a lil bit and now it looks like a door

my sim free kaiser keypad did that too - the keys on my vario3 are however different, and fit more snugly into the chasis - i think htc thought the keys would be more flush with the chasis, hopingthat would stop them from moving around - pretty sure this is a QA issue :S

Any way to adjust the slider?

The top part of the slider (the screen) on my kaiser sits just a little too far to the right when in the closed position. When I'm holding it and talking on it, my finger feels the slight ledge and it's kind of annoying. Has anyone found a good way to adjust the closed position of the kaiser?
Anybody? I'll eventually dig into it myself, but it would be nice to know if someone else has already done it so I can skip the experimenting and take apart only what needs to be taken apart.
As i know the two tiny rubber stop the screen going further. You can glue something to the rubber to adjust the position. Check the photo attached. I can't think of anything except that can help.

Ah I see...
Thank you for the pictures. That helps. One of the rubber bumpers on mine is somewhat malformed. I may end up disassembling this thing and making some sort of replacement.
I just noticed mine was doing this too, so I returned it today. Lol the next one I got had a very very very tight usb fit. it felt like it was going to rip the usb port out every time I would pull my usb plug off. So I went to return that one! They had only one more left which was the display model, lol. Of course I didn't take that.
So what they did is ordered 3 more to be shipped in this Monday and they are going to let me go over each one and decide which is the best for me to take home!
Just thought I'd update this thread with my story.
I tried to do a warranty exchange with AT&T when I found out that the warranty follows the Tilt, rather than being linked to the person that bought it (I bought mine off of craigslist) but they wouldn't do it. They said for something physical like that it had to be within the first 30 days of when it was first used on their system.
So I decided to fix it myself. I measured the amount of overhang at each end near the slide track using calipers, then looked around for something of the right thickness to add to the rubber bumpers discussed above. I settled on a piece of black, vinyl heat-shrink tubing used for electrical conections. 2 layers of it were enough to correct the overhang at one end and 3 layers at the other. I cut the pieces out making squares about .050" (a little over a millimeter) per side and glued the layers together. I used an exacto knife to cut them and trim after glueing. This was a tiny bit over-sized and they stuck into the tracks so well that I didn't bother glueing them into the phone.
My phone feels so much better in my hand now it's amazing. Before, that little difference made my phone feel super cheap and it was really annoying. Now it feels rigid and well made. =)
atleast you got it fixed. My first tilt was in my back pocket and i sat down on it and had the same thing.. so i gave it to my dad and got another one He hasn't noticed.. (actually i bought him a new one on ebay while he was visiting but it didnt arrive in time so i gave him the one i was using at the time, and about 30 min after i got home after dropping him off at the airport, guess who decides to knock on my door? the UPS guy with the new tilt )

Loose D-Pad

I have searched for this but only seem to be able to find one reference to it but no replies so maybe Im the only one......
I have had my Kaiser for a bout a month - not used extensively yet but noticed only a few days ago that the D-Pad is loose in its seating - it appears to be excessively so and "wiggles" quite a lot.
either this is just me...or being new to HTC, its normal. Can anyone confirm/deny
thanks
Mine is loose too...
Mine too, and was loose from day one...
noticed mine yesterday too... could see the led on it
Might open it over the weekend to see if its a case of tightning or adding something to the keys to mak e it tighter
I also thought i was the only one, been like that since unboxing, it's looseness is kind of annoying
Noticed mine after about a week, and also two more which were literally just out of the box.
It's annoying, but I'm prepared to live with it. Form wise it's one of the better build qualities and I'm still generally over the moon with it. Just wish it ran like an iphone! bought someone an ipod touch the other day and man it's so damn pretty!! I just kept telling myself that my phone does all the iphone does and more, UI wise it's just a little more plain-jane hehe.
Ant
the tytn ii is way better than iphone; better everything - no-one should need to tell you that
iphone is a girly phone. all it does is look pretty
apart from d-pad, im very chuffed with mine. also now running pocketmusic 5 on it and that makes it as good a music player.
Mine is loose too, but i just kind of got used to it.
it does seem like some of the shiny finish is starting to chip off though. that annoys me a bit more.
I had to send my tytn II off for repair due to another issue. Calls/texts would not work while in 3g areas. Anyways I got the phone back and noticed this aswell about the d-pad, but I wasnt sure if it was like that before I send it off. But I really notice it now and it annoys me, all in all tho apart from that its a fantasic phone. Glad I not the only one with this problem.
i notied mine is lose to this week ...
Ok, this loose d-pad issue was raised before and it is not a problem. All TyTn IIs have about 1mm of play. The d-pad has a "lip" which is seated under the front bezel. It will not fall out and it is a standard part of the design - just ignore it it does not cause problems.

The "looseness" is part of the design. The D-pad is subjected to finger pressure all the time it is used, it is expected to have some free-play movement.
My d-pad has also this kind of "looseness"
But this is very strange because this looseness is only on the left side of the d-pad. It seems to me that something has been broken!
Melkor
I've got the same problem.
I solved it with a small piece of screenprotector which I placed on top of the d-pad beneath the edge.
Noticed that the first thing I took it out of the box. Not a big deal to me.

No it's not broken. What is unusual is that yours only slides about on one side - most slide around all round (slightly more on top / bottom edges. I think if you tried a little more force it would slide all round. It really is not a fault and not a problem. (the pad merely sits on top of the actual switches and is not connected to them - so the movement is of no consequence)
Mike
Yeah, that's normal, mine too... This is the new HTC quality ...
Really, this device sucks !!!!!!!!!!!
- Not good for gaming
- Not good for playing videos
- Bad quality D-pad
- Keyboard not very good (worse than the original TYTN one) from my point of view
And all of that for around 700 € ... !!!!
Anyone who want to buy a new pocket pc, please think twice before choosing the Kai-**** !
The more I use it, the more I hate it ... I have it for about two weeks now and I still prefere to use my HTC prophet !

Can you please explain where is the interest of this looseness ? I had many pocketpc before this one (and 2 x HTC's), and it is the first time I meet this looseness. And from my point of view, yes , it is annoying !
I hate the feeling I have when pressing the pad or the buttons, when you should have a high quality machine (700 € ...) it is disapointing to feel the buttons moving under your fingers.
When I recieved my first Tilt, the D-Pad was very loose. Also, the UP button had to be mashed a little hard for it to work. It would do the 'click', but wouldn't engage unless you pressed a little harder. This was happening from the minute I took it out of the box. It was very annoying so I returned it for a new one. The new phone D-Pad is not loose at all and works perfectly. I've had this second Tilt now since about 10 days after release, so it's received quite a bit of use. Not sure what's up, but there was something wrong with the first Tilt I received.

can someone help me finally with the screen creaking?

I have the service manual that got leaked, I'm trying to understand how to get it to stop completely. I've tried felt, tape, and I began starting to shave at the body with an exacto knife but stopped because I wasn't sure where to shave.. can someone direct me to a thread already posted.. I've seen some pretty close up shots but none with a straight up, see that, shave that right there... so anyone please help, I'm so fed up with the screen creaking when its touched..
can anyone help me with this? it's really annoying and I would love to have a clarification on how to fix this once and for all.. the service manual doesnt have a part for a creaking screen
I haven't done it myself, but this thread in the Android Community forums seems to be a good place to look.
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f10/diy-creak-fix-4596/
This post has a picture that tells you exactly where to use the exacto.
http://androidcommunity.com/forums/49548-post15.html
the sqeeking occurs when the right upper corner of the display touches the corne above the END key.. I hope I am understandable. Well at least for me it helps to stick a small piece of paper in between the the screen and the part that doesn't move when you push the screen to open. Either place it on the corner above the end key (you don't have much room) or on the other side, above the Send key. This way the screen won't touch the non moving parts.. At least for me it works. It has to be thick like 2 or 3 post-its on top of eachother.. My apologies for the grammar and whatever errors..
much better pictures than the ones I've seen in the past. this helped me understand more where to fricking trim on the phone. Thanks for this guys, I'll try it when I get home.
I shaved mine with an xacto knife. I fixed my creak in like 20 seconds. Its super easy. The thread over at android community had detailed pics and instructions. Super easy
you can exacto or call tmobile. i called them and it was a known problem, the first g1s that were made have this problem. my girlfriend got a white g1 fri and i looked at hers and she had no problems, tmobile will exchange it for you if you call...that is if you don't wanna use the exacto method.
What an easy fix. Finally my phone sounds like a phone, instead of a dying musical instrument.

Defective hardware keyboard, It is curving!

Hi!
I searched a bit around internet and this is not so uncomon issue, so i started this thread, to see how common it is.
In mine case first curving of keyboard appeared in 2 months. At first it seems innocent, just a little higher keyboard, just not perfectly flat anymoe. But than buttons rly become curved and the whole keyboard moves up a little. Now some letter at the top are comming off already! I see the light through holes in keyboard, i realy didnt expect this from a phone like this, as hardware quality is overall very good. Except for keyboard i suppose... Now it makes very much noise typing..
At some forum i found verizon replaced this curving with no issue, but i dont realy want to send it into repair, in my case it would last 1-2 months, i know it sucks..
So i was wondering abaut gluing it, but first i will probably buy replecement for ~10EUR and use superglue all over edges, expecialy bottom, but i don't seem to find any instruction on removing keyboard on the google, even youtube only has dissasembly for internals. I tried with nails a little and it seems keyboard will eventualy come off by itself lol...
Very dissapointed, anyone else has this, or is this not so common and i should make a waranty request?

I hate dust!!

So after looking at my phone last night under dim light I noticed something... dust in the screen, no big deal... that was until i noticed it was UNDERNEATH the freaking screen!
Of course nothing I tried can get it loose, I already sent an email to HTC regarding the issue so now I play the waiting game. I've had htc's for years now (mogul, touch pro, touch pro 2) and this is the only time I remember having this problem (I am ocd about my phones, they must look like they are new, always )
Has anyone else out there had this problem? The phone is not even a month old! And I can't stand seeing that crap there, always ruining whatever i'm looking at
Please offer any solutions! I have a friend who works for tmobile so i'll be asking him later when I see him but I also need xda forum input
I had that with one replacement HD7. When I got my HD7 I actually went through 4 of them to get one without faults. The first one had reception problems. The second one had patches of dead pixels al over the screen. The third had particulates under the screen. I finally went to a different store and received a perfect one.
I might mention, in case it has an impact on it, wipe the display from side to side gently. Don't wipe from top to bottom or bottom to top. I have an idea duct and particulates are able to channel under the screen from the little mesh grill areas at the top and bottom.
I thought it would be from these too as they all seem to have came in form the mesh grille on top, I'm going to the t-mobile store in a bit and see what they can do with it.
No impacts here at all, I have an otterbox case on it too... so much to have a nasty little lint thing get stuck on the inside!!
Now all I see is that thing on there, it makes me so mad
The only problem i had with dust was on the freaking speakers and i can't get them out no matter how hard i try
I had dust on my htc desire, thought it was a htc specific problem until I saw my mates iPhone!
UIpdate:
HTC emailed me saying "we apologize for this, please contact our service center M-F regarding this issue"
We'll see what happens when I call them tomorrow... I expect a WARRANTY repair!

Simple fix for that.
I use a lens cloth and eye glasses cleaner. Wet the cloth a bit and fold it into and edge and clean the speakers. Takes all the dust out of mine. Looks brand new!
Finally spoke with HTC repair center today, good news is they will look at my phone... bad news is I have to pay to ship it to them and apart from that I gotta be HD7 less for 6 to 10business days!!
Well just the thought of that crap no longer being underneath my screen is good enough to think about those 10 days going by quickly
