Remote Desktop Mobile on Kaiser - Any Ideas? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi guys, looking for some pointers with this one.
Having usefully used Terminal Services on the TyTN to remote support Windows machines while out in the field, I've upgraded to the Kaiser only to find that not only is the improved Remote Desktop Mobile from WM6 not included in the build, but neither is the previous Terminal Services Client. This is a major problem for me as I don't want to have to carry two devices with me (never mind 2 SIMs and contracts!)
Having searched around it seems that Microsoft decided not to make the inclusion of Remote Desktop Mobile madatory in the build, but to offer it as an option to carriers and manufacturers. It also seems that this is something which none of the carriers has opted for - and definitely not Vodafone UK as in my case.
This really has crashed a major downer onto the otherwise brilliant bit of gear which is the Kaiser.
Has anyone any access to the RDM app for installation onto the Kaiser, or, failing that, an "easy" way to port the old TSC from the TyTN?

Try this... this is a remote desktop prog. for PPC on WM6 devices

Its available in the thread where all cabs are located (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332438), following the big link there will point you to the wm6 remote desktop cab (http://www.cinetsystems.com/xda/Kaiser Cab Collections/WM6_RemoteDesktop.cab)

Thanks guys, brilliant work and saved me loads of gief.
(BTW - I did search across the site but couldn't anything - I'll make sure I try harder next time!)

Printing from the Wizard (HP MobilePrinting?)

Hi there!
For quite a while now I'm searching for an app making it possible to print from the Qtek, via LAN, WLAN, IR, no matter (well, nearly)...
all I found was the HP MobilePrinting solution, which (at least on my device) doesn't work (installed on the machine as well as on the storage card). The app always complains that the hpprintcenter seems not to be certified or a component is missing... well.
The only other app I found was Vanguard Printing, which I can't test due to a lack of IR-printers... :?
Does anynone know a solution to get the HP app running or at least a complete different program making it possible to print?
Aah, before I forget it: what about freeware?
Thanks a lot.

WestTek maybe your solution...
WestTek just updated all their software to support WM5. One of the programs is called JetCet. It allows you to print from your device. They have a 14 trial period for all their software.
NOTE: The only problem I've found so far is that their printing software (currently) does not support IP printers. You cannot configure a printer with only an IP address. You must use a printer that has a dedicated print server.
I don't know if they (WestTek) plans to upgrade their software in the future that will support IP Printers.
Justin
BTW. I think their software works well. I've printed PDFs and PowerPoints (2 slides per page (and no, you can't change that)) and they look decent. Obviously, printing from a workstation is better, but for a mobile printing solution, it works very well.

i am going to google this to find them, but for others that come after me, and perhaps if I cant find them, how about a url to them/their product?
Here ya go......
www.westtek.com
Bachmann PrintBoy does it... aaargh.
I tried the WestTek product just to find it doesn't work for me. There are only a few (Canon, HP, Epson) network-printers supported and it was impossible to get it going with my HP JetDirect printserver... not a generic approach.
So at least my biggest fear came true: the most expensive program I tried is the only one working under WM5! I can't believe it...
Bachmann PrintBoy7 does the trick, although the built in 'configure' dialog didn't work for me - calling the appropriate executable solved the problem. Besides that it's a charm to configure.
Bachmann asks for 'only' 49.99 Dollars!
That's a lot of money for printing a page once in while!!!
And they don't support the WM5 NoteTaker .pwi file-format! Nobody knows why.
All this only because MS skipped the implementation of a printing service due to more resources... :x
Does really nobody how to run the HP PrintingService under WM5?
Any progs I don't know?
Take care.
Yul.
I believe the mobileprinting software from HP is for WM 2003 only. I don't think they've come out with a new driver for WM 2005.

HP no longer offers their Mobile Printing product -- they announced this some time ago on their web site -- so there will not be a WM5 version.

Extract App from WM6 Rom

Now that we have a WM6 Rom avaliable for the Wizard, does anyone know how to extract certain programs and replace them in the WM5 Roms??
Particularly the Email client and Remote Desktop
Now you may ask why the he!! don't you just use the WM6 Rom?
Because I am in a corporate environment where I use the program provided by the company to both sync and access my information (Lotus Notes) Intellisync and OneBridge and neither of those have support for the yet to be "Officially Released" WM6
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Well, bad and good news for you. First of all, what you are asking probably will not work. Good news is, you DONT NEED SUPPORT!~!! WM6 is STILL CE5, its just a minor upgrade (like windows 98 to windows98se). So.... most likely your programs will function perfectly. It is very rare when a wm5 program does not function in wm6 and useually those are system tweaking programs. I would make a complete backup of your device and try wm6.... you might be pleasantly surprised.
But moving apps from Crossbow/WinMob 6/5.2 to WinMob 5 isn't as easy and depends on how they were compiled. Most MS stuff won't work without modification I think.

Just got my AT&T Tilt

I just upgraded from the 8525 to the Tilt and wow is it better. The speed difference is noticable and the controls seem to respond much better.
I'm still getting it all setup, but I've noticed a couple of things that seem to be missing. It doesn't have a Remote Desktop client on it, and the Internet Sharing app is no longer on it either. Was this a choice by AT&T or are all kaiser based models not coming with those?
Is there some way I can get those apps?
internet sharing is in your windows directory
Check the cab repository stickied on these forums, I believe you'll find remote desktop there.
After the above two things, go here:

New Tilt/Kaiser User:

Somehow I have stumbled my way through search engines and ended up here.
I bought an at&t tilt and I am loving it. Does anyone know if there is a way to remote desktop to the mobile itself? Such as remote desktop or vnc?
I would love to know your favorite apps.
Right now mine are
1.) Google maps
2.) Keepass(a must for any IT consultant)
3.) mToken(ssh, telnet, etc)
4.) Skype(works well when you get a headset for your tilt)
5.) Sprite Backup
6.) Core Player(man I wish there was an way to make Pocket IE use it as the default video player)
I am looking at the PDair Aluminum Case as I have a bad habit of either coughing, spilling or dropping my pda/phones.
This is a great community and resources, thanks to those who established it.

The things i use the most with my Tilt is

And my Bluetooth Stereo Headphones.
Also like to Use SPD Mobile DVD to put Futurama and other movies on my Phone.
Welcome! My favorite apps are: SPB Mobile Shell 2, Opera, Tom Tom, Kaiser Tweak and Kaiser Notification. The last 2 apps I listed are invaluble for taking care of most of the "nits" you'll come across.
This forum is a great resource... just about anything you'll come up with a question for has already been discussed at some point in the past.
Searching is the word of the day here (every day), and patiently reading thru the threads that you come up with will pay dividends!

Office Communicator 2007 .CAB?

I asked this question a while ago in the Wizard forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2170324
And didn't get any replies that helped me
I managed to make a package that works to some degree however I can't get the Today item to appear or be available, however launching the application it does work.
If anyone can help I can post the package I have so far?
We have now this at work so I would like to get a working package so I don't have to keep installing it following a re-flash or hard-reset. I know I could include the .cab in the ROM build and then add it to the list of .cabs to be executed after a hard reset, but I would like to get it in the ROM and it's like a challenge now...
Cheers
Andy
This isn't free software is it...for what I found on Windows Communicator 2007 it appears you can download a 60 day version for trial only!
yep the mobile version is free...

I guess that's why many on the forum ignored this post. Anyhow, did any use this software? What special use can it be good for?

We use MS OCS (Office Communication Server) at work. It is the basis for the Office Communicator Client which is a Windows Live Messenger-like IM client for Corporate use. It integrates with your IP-PBX via SIP - its quite a big product and lets M$ compete in a different market....
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/communicationsserver/default.aspx
The Mobile Client is free and I use it currently on my HTC Kaiser (used to use it on my old Wizard) when I am in the office (WiFi). I would just like to include it in the ROM and so far I can't work out what extra bits happen as part of the .cab install that don't with the ROM package...
Andy
Resurrect this thread....
I never managed to get this to work as an OEM package so I ended up cooking the .CAB into my ROM and auto-installing it via the 'config.txt' file. I thought I would update my kitchen with the latest versions of applications I have in it and I thought I would try again with Office Communicator Mobile 2007.
Anyway I cooked it into my latest ROM and again it didn't appear on the today screen - it also isn't in the list of Today Items to select (however all the registry entries exist). As part of the OEM package I created a shortcut to the Communicator.exe in the 'Office Mobile' folder and I can launch it and use it without problems - the issue is it doesn't appear on the Today Screen like it does if manually installed via the .CAB.
Now after I have launched it once and then go back to the Today Settings 'Communicator Mobile' is now there and works!!! However if the device is soft-reset it returns to its previous state - not on the Today Screen and not in the list of items to select for display on the Today Screen.
Anyone know what it likely to be the problem as it looks like it can only be something simple?
Andy
Can it be used as a SIP client for paid VOIP providers, or just for the MS server?
