Why does every body oohing and ahhing about this piece of junk? IT DOES NOT VIBRATE!!!!.... Let me repeat. IT DOES NOT VIBRATE!!!! So the only way for you to get call notification is to either wear the ear pieces all the time or turn on your Athena default ear shattering notification sound. Now, I understand that a lot of you think that no one will ever call you or the line of work that you're in will never ever require you to attend any meeting at work so the default loud Athena notification is not a problem. But think again!!!! On that rare occasion when the hooker you paid to go out on a date with you calls, you will find yourself looking like an IDIOT emitting that horrible stupid default call notification sound that came with the Athena. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY BUYING THIS PIECE OF SH*T.
The only stereo BT headset that also vibrates up until now is the Jabra BT8010.

Manner would be spending a minute searching for more info (problems, etc...) about the item one is thinking of posting that have been reported time after time after time after time... up here before starting another thread tricking people into buying junks....

I'm with you Red_Toyol.
I bought this headset and the Jaba but took the Jaba back after a few days in favour of this one for two main reasons. First, the sound quality on the Sony-Ericsson is definitely better, both on Music and both ways on calls. Secondly, the wires for the earpieces act as the necklace so you wear it round your neck (and inside your shirt) and it only comes out when needed.
Now, since using it for some 4 months now, I can give you a couple of other pointers.
The DS970 has caller display so I can see who's calling before I answer. OK, it's number only (there's probebly a fix for names) but I'm good with that.
Also, I charge mine once every two weeks or so. That's as I use it only now and then for music but for phone calls all the time. However, I leave the BT on the Ameo ALL the time but switch off the headset when not using it. That's because, when the phone rings (and I only have 20seconds before switching to answer machine), I have time to power up the headset (about 5 secs including logon to Ameo) and answer. When call finished, I hang up and switch off.
If you do this, you get sooo much battery life for no convenience loss AND it means vibrate would be useless anyway.
Each to their own I suppose but I am so pleased with this bit of kit. IF you need vibrate, look elsewhere. If not, this is the best IMHO.
Oh, and as for the ringing, why would you use the default ringer anyway? I have my own ringtones for various purposes and when I get a call, my Ameo rings as if I didn't have a headset. The only difference is I can choose at that point which method to answer by.

DS970 indeed looks like quite an ideal BT headset.
Vibration is completely unnecessary for me also. Even if I have such a function, I won't use it. The reason is this. If I'm outdoor, I want normal ringtone to come through from the phone's speaker. If I'm in the meeting, I would just switch via profile into one of those "special ringtone". Special ringtone could be mosquitoe ringtone (ultrasonic frequency ringtone which I can hear but some others can't), sound of coughing, or even sound of a vibrating phone, etc. Something that sounds acceptable from etiqeutte standpoint. In addition, my profile would have set the ringing to go from soft to progressively loud. There is no need to actually vibrate.
I like the style of the phone where you can hide it in your shirt with only two wires hanging out. It is much better than hanging it on the ear, which looks really wierd in my own opinion.

Beware of fake HBH DS970 from ebay sellers.
I did a quick research on this, and noted that many have bought from Hong Kong sellers mainly, but some are out of US too.
If you have it very cheap, it's likely to be a fake.

Tritton - Another Option
Here is another option I came across while looking for a BT solution. The Tritton relies on the housing to clip on your pocket, shirt or coat but I have also used it with a lanyard when wearing a t-shirt. It also allows you the option of using any stereo headset with a 3.5 mm plug.
It is a very clean, mimimalist design (no blinking blue light) with an OLED display and Caller ID (number only) to conserve battery and relies on only 3 buttons for all the functions. So far it has worked very well with the Advantage and the range for both headset and stereo functions has been excellent with no static or popping at all. You can actually keep your device in your pocket, bag or briefcase without any degradation to audio quality. The only con is that there is not vibration feature.
I purchased mine at Tiger Direct for less than $100.

While trying to source for DS980, I came across DS220, which seems to be similar to DS980 except you're free to plug in your 3.5mm earphone of your choice if you wish.
Has anyone used this before? If so, how is the sound quality?
Anyone knows if there are other differences between DS980 and DS220?

bizarre this thread should appear as i bought some of these this very day for 40 quid from Cex, though they are brand new and CERTAINLY not fake. certainly if they are available for twenty quid il be gutted!! they seem to work fine. sound quality is great and i dont feel like a **** wearing them. all good then. the only thing i havent figured is whether i can get it to automatically open up media player when i press play. i also cant get it to work with my n95 - after pairing it just says 'unable to connect'. stupid n95.

my main gripe with the sony units is that they have their own propriety charger connection, a kinda bastardised Sony phone charger.
IMHO the tritton unit is much better, recently upgraded to one from a hbh-ds970

i guess it all depends on each other's preferences. some like the headset to vibrate, some like it hanging via neckstrap, etc.

it's an r35 itech unit. i use the white one and i like it for the following:
- no need to hang it in your ear all the time
- minimalistic and you can hide it in your shirt collar...or clip it
- has a built in buzzer that i can hear even when outdoors. when a call comes there are 2 beeps that go off. they won't stop until i answer or the caller hangs up
- my x7500 is either in my laptop bag, the diaper bag or in a backpack. so this saves me the trouble of carrying it all the time
- during meetings, i can disable the buzzer and change the notification to rapid light mode. basically, i leave it on the table so when a call comes through the normal flashing light turns to 2 rapid flashes
- i can change the single earphone to dual for a2dp stereo use. the headset also allows me to skip to the next track or go back to the previous, etc
- and i can plug my nifty bose noise cancelers on it as well

[REVIEW]Motorola S10-HD Stereo Bluetooth Headset

Howdy folks, your friendly neighborhood mod ashasaur here with a review of my new Motorola S10-HD stereo Bluetooth headset. As the name suggests, this is a Bluetooth headset that no only supports stereo sound, but REQUIRES a device that has stereo Bluetooth(A2DP) support, and that my friends...is what the HD2 has. Anywho, the review!
DEVICE-The device itself is really nice, great build quality. It comes with 4 sets of rubber ear dome-thingies so if you have giant ass ears like me you can switch the domes to ones that fit more snuggly. Included in the box are the domes, instructions and a Micro USB charger. The device has several physical buttons-Volume Up/Down, Play/Pause, Track Skip, Track Back, Power and End/Send. It is available in either jet black or silver.
SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS-As I said above, you have to have a device that has stereo Bluetooth capabilities, also known as A2DP, which the HD2(and many newer HTC devices) has. The S10-HD works with both Windows Mobile and Android from my personal testing. I am using the newest Energy ROM, and Froyostone Sense v3.2, and stereo sound and calling works great under both operating systems.
FEATURES-One of the best features of the S10-HD is that it's volume controls are independent of WinMo's or Android's. Meaning, you can have your device's volume at any setting, and the volume on the headset is independent of this setting, which means that you don't have to fiddle with the volume slider on the phone in order to get a reasonable level, you can use the buttons on the headset...and your normal ringtone/system volume remains unaffected on your device. Now, one downside is that system audio is NOT pushed to the headset, IE new text or e-mail notifications still play on the speaker of your device, which is kind of a downer. Another downside is that in order for phone call audio to be pushed to the headset, you MUST answer a phone call using the Call End/Send button the the headset itself. Using the screen or buttons on the phone to answer the call will default them to the mic/speaker of the phone instead. The last downside is that the buttons on the headset, other then Call End/Send and the volume keys don't actually do anything under WinMo. I am currently looking into this and will update if I find out how to make them work, as they do work under Android.
SOUND QUALITY-The S10-HD features, in my opinion, better than average sound quality. The range of the headset is pretty damn good in my opinion. I always keep my HD2 in a holster on my left side, and the sound, even when walking/jogging is consistent with no fuzziness or fade ins/outs. However, the microphone is rather far away from your mouth, on your right ear no less, so you do have to speak up for people to hear you on a call. The sound quality itself is rather good for wireless headphones, and almost comparable to the stock HTC wired headphones, or any other wired set for that matter.
BATTERY LIFE-The battery life of the S10-HD is actually pretty decent for a stereo headset. On standby you will easily get 5-6 days, and connected you will get 7ish hours of music listening and 8ish hours of talk. It takes around 3 hours to fully charge the battery from dead.
PRICE-The Motorola S10-HD is available from stores in the US such as Best-Buy and Target for around 80USD, sometimes a little lower(I got mine for 50 bucks on sale).

Good afternoon guyfromtor. I tried that 15 day from BlueSoleil. Unfortunately, I keep getting errors "Your sound hardware cannot simultaneously play sounds and capture your voice. Im thinking it is just not compatible with the wind.
I dont know what else to try.

S9s are way Better
Just Got the S10 after my S9 broke and here is what I think:
The S9-HD is way better than the S10-HD, Motorola really screwed up on this one in my opinion. The sound quality on the 10 compared to the 9 is terrible, bass is nearly non existent. The S9 was a little wider and shorter compared to the S10 which is more narrow and longer which means that the 9 fit comfortably and formed to the back of my neck so I could wear and big coat with a thick collar and still have nothing hanging off the back of my neck hitting my coast every time i turn my neck, and the damn ear buds fall off whenever I take em off my head.....I really wish I would have bought some replacement s9s instead of the new s10s they were way better.
so here is my two cents for anyone who cares........GET THE S9-HDs!!

If your device has A2DP Bluetooth functionality then they will work, but get the S9's.

if you want a cheap pair you can pick them up on eBay for about 20-30 dollars
I Had mine for a year an some change and i have no complaints, I recommend them too all my friends, I use them at the gym 4 times a week, and i charge them on arrange once every two weeks, they hold a charge for a long time, Crisp clean sound

Best Stereo Bluetooth headset and speaker for hang-out moments

Like to share with all my current IEM, Stereo Bluetooth headset, Portable Stereo Bluetooth Speaker, and Flip cover case for self hang-out or gathering moments. All of them has been tested and working very well with my Galaxy Note II N7105 LTE. Their selection are out of many choosen and tested stereo bluetooth headset and speaker, IEM and case gadgets. Below are the my crowned victory combination.
1. Samsung HS-3000 Stereo Bluetooth used with TDK BA200 IEM.
2. Leadsound i6BT Stereo Bluetooth Speakers.
3. White flip cover soft leather case (soft PVC?) with dual mode stand.
I must says, the above combination are absolutely my All-Time Best gadgets for hangout moments, and does not burned a big hole on you pocket.
In self silent mode, The music from HS3000 + BA200 are absolutely fantastic with sweet details, proper bass sound and very good sound staging. The SQ from HS3000 to BA200 sounded so original when compare plugging BA200 directly into my Galaxy Note 2 LTE. All genres of music play absolutely marvellous. Be it Four Play, Earl Klugh, Marcus Miller, Eric Bibb, Stanley Clarke, Peter White, Chuck Mangione, Miles Davis, The Crusaders, Al Di Meola, Billie Hollidays, Diana Krall, Rebecca Pidgeon, Karen Knowles, Laura Fygi, Sara K, David Craig, Bee Gees, The Police, Eric Clapton, Jay-Z, Pitbull, David Guetta, Maroon5, Nicki Minaj, Carly Rae Jepsen, Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, P!nk, Super Junior, TVXQ, BigBang, SHINee, Girls Generation, f(X), PSY, Se7en, BoA, and right up to Rock Heaven of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, The Beatles, Scorpions, Queen, U2, ACDC, Bon Jovi, KISS, Guns N'Roses, Aerosmith, Metallica and so on. On the other hand let's talk about just Samsung HS3000 Stereo Bluetooth performance alone.
It came with Bluetooth 3.0 (without HS) connectivity which promises better power management between idling/suspend and data transfer mode thus has longer and more stability connection than the older Bluetooth 1.0/1.1, 20/2.1. During my usage over the last 4 weeks, it proven to be the best and the most stable connection. Once connected to my cellphone, it stayed connected for the next 2~3days after many calls, music streaming until it finally power off due to battery run-out. My experiences with my old Moto S705, i.Tech MC803, SE MW600 was not so good as all of them suffered many dis-connection from the cellphone in 1 day. This is excellent result to me. I have never experienced such a long timing connection between my devices and any bluetooth headset in the past 12 years of using bluetooth headset.
On the design side, the pearl white/pink colors HS3000 I'm having look gorgeous with it clean layout.
On the buttons control and layout side,
The front facial, the big square button on front facial for call/end call function was perfectly size and well located for fast response to calls. Not only that, it also work marvellously with single press activating the last call, where long press call up the great Samsung S Voice on my Galaxy Note 2 LTE.
To the left sides, there are 4 buttons for Power, Volume up/down and Sound Alive mode. I am particularly liking the sliding type on/off power button. It provide the most straight forward on/off condition that does not require to long press-and-hold waiting time, and maybe still wondering "did i press correctly and was the bluetooth headset already on or not?" Further impression with the sweetly sounded Voice Prompt Assistant "Ms. Samsung" making the various activities announcement clearly and gently also make me feel good about this HS3000. However, for the volume up/down and sound alive mode buttons usage experience does not hold the same good satisfaction, when compare to call and power buttons. The 3 of them are so close together making them not too ideal for frequent operation and need sometime to get use with. This probably due to compact size of HS3000, the Sound Alive mode button are located close to the volume up button, making it easily pressed by mistake.
To the right side, there are 3 buttons for Play (center), Back track/Rewind (left) and Next track/Fast forward (right). Those 3 buttons work wonderfully controlling my Galaxy Note 2 default Music Player for all the intended functions.
To the back, the big clipper for clipping HS3000 unit provding very firm grip onto any clothing one are wearing. It was a better clipper compare to SE MW600 flimsy clipper that easily dropped off from any clothing that MW600 clipped onto. Moto S705 also having similar good clip power, only it was more bulkier and much heavier than the compact and lightness of the Samsung HS3000 by comparison. Well that's about all I'm gonna say for Samsung HS3000. Next...
In open mode, blasting the i6BT stereo speaker when walking or a Starbuck, Subway, BigM is amazing experience, it make me feel so alive listening to my music, movie, MV and live concerts video's. The SQ of this very portable SBTspeaker sound clear, details and yet with powerful low mid bass. Especially truth when hold it in your hand, the powerful bass will keep thumping on your palm and make me feel so alive and feel like keep playing through it and enjoying all the smiling faces or some of the strange look from surrounding people (igonored them if the way they look at you does not please you).

Fairly inexpensive to boot (got mine for about $30USD from memory).

Wow! Yours cost only half of mine price.
Mine was original Samsung set with full box and 1 year warranty as shown on my pciture. What abt yours?
I've learned there's some claimed to be Samsung HS3000, but they are infact OEM set assembled with Samsung chipset board inside, or it was a replica HS3000 only. I've knew this as some of them who offering me that price told me so.

I've just forgotten about the TDK BA200 IEM price.
TDK BA200 was actually price at US$188, but I was lucky to got it for US$130 under special price by friend shop.

I was thinking about picking up a bluetooth headset to use at the gym. One thing I love about the pebble watch is being able to control music without pulling the phone out of my pocket all the time. I would be nice just to leave the phone in my bag.
Anyone know a good bluetooth headset that I can listen to music on while working out?

BIG question, can you use the smart watch and a bluetooth headset at the same time? I know some people would think it's redundant since there is 3.5mm for earphones on watch, but if you want to go full bluetooth, listen on earphones and see notifications, control music on watch, can you do that?

No, not that I have discovered. But the watch does vibrate. So you can set the phone to silent and the watch will still notify you.

I am wondering about the bluetooth headset as well. I have not purchased one yet. I was hoping someone had already tried!
Just to clarify, there is NO headphone jack on the watch.
I like the idea of voice commands, but there is no mic on the watch, so this would have to be used with a bluetooth headset.

I was just reading in the pebble forums (external site) and saw that ios users have voice commands through their bluetooth headset. However, I don't know how that is interfacing with the watch.
In theory, I thought that 4.2 ROMs were supposed to be able to run multiple bluetooth profiles at the same time. I only have one bluetooth device, so I can't test this theory.
In the future, when Google Now gets a bit more mature, it would be awesome to hit the voice command button on the headset and be able to control system properties (ie wifi, sound, etc).

A quick heads up to anyone that was following, or bid on the Pebble I have listed. I woke up this morning to discover eBay had removed the listing, and suspended my account. I was very confused because I only have positive reviews. I called eBay and they said they just needed to verify my account. Not sure about watxh specifically but I know that I can have my phone paired to my truck for calls and then paired to headset at the same time so multiple bluetooth profiles are a go

I haven't specifically tested this.. But my initial answer is yes. If an app can give a notification, you can get it on the Pebble. There is an Android app in the Play Store called "Pebble Notifier". With that app you can select any app on your phone to send notifications to the Pebble.

One of the concerns of a smart watch is how much will your phones battery life suffer due to the bluetooth connection.
After a few days of testing I have seen zero noticable impact on battery life. I dont know if it is because the Note 2 has such a beast of a battery, or if it is because bluetooth 4.0 just barely sips battery, but I am not kidding. I haven't seen any difference in battery life.

most likely bluetooth 4 is very power efficient, pebble supports it and so does the note2
I'll be getting one of these watches, theres going to be all sorts of apps for them, I think they will be huge and therefore attract developers.

Google voice search prompts do not obey volume sliders

On a Bluetooth headset, Google (voice) search prompt tones are intolerably loud. I use Persist+ & with all sliders @ zero, it just does its own loud prompt.
Is there a solution?
My workaround is to disable Google Search & let voice search 2.1.4 handle voice dialing.
Frustrated & not rooted!

That's when it manages to send it over Bluetooth. Half the time it comes over the speaker, and sometimes half of it comes over one and then switches to the other.
I'm gonna ask Santa for an Android Bluetooth stack that actually works as expected; seems pretty clear Google and/or Motorola is incapable of delivering one.

Are you unrooted & what build?
I am glad to have voice search anyway!
My ERA, the mini, is great. Battery life is poor if you leave it on, but is great via the manual switch.

Unrooted, stock 4.4.2.

I got a FRU for a dim & slightly yellow screen with my month old phone. It worked with a much lower prompt tone.
Both phones have identical SW. So it could be a hardware issue.
BTW. After complaining about the bad FRU with WiFi not switching on at times & soft keys disappearing, Vzw CS is now sending a new phone out!

If you are talking about the prompt after you say "Okay Google Now" with that response volume being very low, this is an issue that Moto is aware of. For a temporary fix, from your home screen you can press the volume down button a few times, then turn it back up. That fixes it for me, usually until I have to restart the phone.
Try that and see if it works for you.

This doesn't work for me. Bluetooth volume is seriously borked in 4.4 (and 4.4.2), and it behaves erratically. Even if I lower the volume, it jumps back up when playing podcasts after accessing touchless control. I have tried to fix it (re-pair bluetooth, clear cache, clear dalvik cache, factory reset, etc.).
Really sad that one of the biggest reasons to buy this phone doesn't work as expected when you would need it most (while driving). I keep hoping for a fix, but the last two that came down from Motorola (for the Assist app) broke more than it fixed. And Google's tainted history with its bloody bluetooth stack does not have me feeling confident that this will get cleared up anytime soon.
FWIW, it was working fine in 4.2.2, and it works fine in 4.4.2 with a Moto bluetooth headset... but third party bluetooth devices (Kinivo, LG, Logitech) act as if they are haunted.
Maybe its time to just roll over on Android and go back to iPhone.

I was talking about a different issue. There is a strange issue with the Moto Assist where, even if your volume is turned all the way up, the Moto Assist voice is extremely low. Adjusting the volume down, then up, is a temp fix to bring the Moto Assist voice back in line with the regular volume. The volumes jumping around issue is something different that I have not experienced yet with 4.4.2 (and I have my phone currently paired to no less than 4 different bluetooth speakers: a Miccus and a Jabra in the car, a Westinghouse speaker in the house, and a set of Plantronics ear buds).
Occasionally, when the Moto Assist voice is really low, the current song that is playing will also become low, but skipping the song fixes the problem. I have chatted with Moto techs, and they are working on the issue. (And I recall 4.2 bluetooth being more unstable in my use... 4.4 has fixed issues I was experiencing.)
You've listed several devices that have the volume jumping issue. Since you don't have any issues with the Moto headset, I wonder if maybe the receiving device isn't exactly compatible? What models of devices don't seem to work with your X? What version of Bluetooth are they on? Maybe that's something to investigate. And, yes, Google's bluetooth can be messy sometimes.
You may, of course, leave Android for the iPhone (or Windows phone). That is a personal choice. But I have several friends who have iPhones, and they have different issues that I, personally, couldn't put up with. If yours is the current state of bluetooth with certain devices, and you are certain that switching to an iPhone will fix that issue, then by all means do the switch.

That was more tongue in cheek than anything else.
In 4.4, Google attempted to unify bluetooth volume control. Beforehand, volume controls on hardware (LG Tone+ for instance) was independent of the bluetooth volume on the phone. This was no different than connecting an aux cable to an amp with its own volume control; adjusting the amp's volume control did not affect the output volume of the phone.
This makes a lot of sense as different devices have different sensitivities, and it is desirable to leave your phone's BT volume at a median level, and fine tune the audio level of each device using their own volume controls.
In 4.4, Google decided that BT devices that had their own volume controls should actually control the BT volume of the phone, and not their own input sensitivity. This may or not be a desirable feature for most (it wasn't for me), but that would be under the assumption that the implementation actually works as intended. It doesn't. Certainly not on the Kinivo BTC450 and the LG HBS730. These are popular, highly rated devices, and the end result of 4.4's changes are jumpy, nonlinear volume settings, where spots along the midpoint of the volume slider interface are significantly louder than those above it, and volume levels change depending on what you're doing on your phone.
I suppose one could write off these devices as incompatible, but these issues did not exist with them prior to 4.4, and do not exist on devices on other platforms running BT 4. And of course, BT is a standard that is supposed to be backward compatible for the protocols (A2DP in this case) that are supported.
I'm aware that 4.4 and above fixed some issues that existed in prior builds, but my recollection is that these were mostly connectivity problems. The changes to volume behavior was simply rancid icing on the cake. I just hope a fix is imminent as this is the single most frustrating bug I am experiencing on the Moto X.

I figured as much, but I'm of the opinion that if a piece of technology does not work how you want it to, or there are issues that are deal breakers for you, and a different piece of technology does address those issues, then you should switch. The comment was by no means intended to be snide or off handed: that is how I view technology (when I am able to afford it, natch).
In response to the new way that Android handles BT audio... I suppose I'm a different use case than you. Most of my stuff is either jerry rigged to work, or I don't notice the great difference in how it handles audio volumes. I can imagine how this can be frustrating when your volume jumps up and down, and for your sake I hope they do fix the issue.
I'd still be interested in seeing if there was a common theme to devices that do the audio shifts. However, it appears that it can be fixed. According to the following link, the volume controls work properly for the LG device you listed on the Nexus 5, running 4.4.2. Unless the Moto X has issues with that particular chip, you may (eventually) be in luck. (The Kinivo device is also listed, but not much more is said than the audio quality being awesome).
