Sound and Vibrate Problem - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello.
I have had my Vario III for a few months now, and for the last 2 months it has (every now and again) stopped playing my text message and ringtone sounds when people are calling/texting. No vibrate either, so I have no idea if someone is calling unless I'm looking at the phone. The sound is on full, and my MP3s still play so it doesn't make sense.
I also checked the settings in the sound and notifications part to see if the tune is still selected which confused me more. Sometimes it is still the same (you can press play for a preview and it will still play, yet not when someone actually rings/texts) and sometimes it has been set to default.
I've never had this problem on the Vario I so don't understand why it should happen on an upgrade!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Ring problem - solved??

OK guys,
I just had my "faulty" Diamond replaced - it wasn't ringing on calls, but all other sounds were OK. This is not the same issue that people have had with SMS notifications etc etc.
Basically only a hard reset cured the issue, but it came back after a few days.
Since using the new one I think I worked out what it could be, and it might be very embarassing.....part of it is to do with the stupid way HTC have implemented the volume behaviour in Touch Flo, and their philosophy of "why press the screen once when you can press it 3 or 4 times"! Dismissing email, missed call and SMS notifications from the Home screen anyone? - need I say more.
Anyway, the problem <I think> stems from the way they changed the volume feature. (and operator error).
In WM6.x native, if you turn the system volume off, then the ringer turns off - if you turn it up the ring stays off - BUT both volumes are seen on one screen. So it's obvious.
In Touch Flo there are 2 separate screens!! System Volume, then an Arrow left to "Ring Volume".
Anyone who has the apparent "no ringing" press the up or down volumne, then make sure you hit the arrow left for "Ring Volume".
My sample size is 1, so this maybe coincidental, but I hadn't realised it worked this way.
For those of you with the problem, please check the "Ring Volume" level and get back to us.
See the pic attached.....
Sorry to burst your bubble, but the 'no sound on calls' problem has been seen to happen when the system volume and ring volume have been at maximum. Indeed this has also been seen to happen on WM6.x native, where as you say, both levels are visible.
I was meaning the incoming calls do not ring at all- the sound when speaking still works.
Is that what you meant?
If yes then that's a pain - I was hoping it could be the end of my troubles!
This may or may not be relevant, but, I never change the volume (system or ringer - they're both set to max) and indeed I've even remapped the volume hardware buttons to other functions but on occasion I find that whilst my system volume remains on max my ringer volume has gone right down to zero.
It certainly wasn't me that did it - at least not directly through any positive action related to changing the volume anyway.
I cannot seem to reproduce this problem, and so for now it seems to occur randomly (of course I'm sure there is a definite trigger - I just haven't found it yet!).
Mathew
that is odd - whatever is causing it then, it might be ringer volume related...
This Has Solved The Problem On My Touch Diamond...will Probably Post In A Couple Of Days To Indicate Whether The Problem Has Returned...if You Don't Hear From Me In This Thread Again Then The Problem Can Been Seen As Solved For Good.

no sound.
hi. just got my new diamond. it powered up alright, installed all the necessary apps and sounded great. I also adjusted the system and the ringer volumes to around 80% of max.
but if i use the phone after around 15 minutes, there is not sound. no audio player sound, either songs or incoming calls or sms or anything. its just dead silent.
wanted to go to the shop to have it replaced, but before that, i wonder if anyone can help me and tell if this problem can be solved myself.
i guess i will wait for a reply before going for a replacement.

Bad news mate. But that problem is slightly different to the topic - it's only the ring volume which doesn't work for me and certain other people.
All other sounds work just fine.
Phone not ringing, vibrating or flashing for incoming calls
I am also having the same problem with my Diamond. The phone is not ringing/lighting up/vibrating or anything when someone is calling me. I have tried calling my phone myself to just watch it remain black. I REALLY hope someone somewhere finds a solution to this problem, or I may just throw it against the wall
I also had the same problem with my Telus CDMA diamond - sound worked fine, then after a random amount of time after power off, there would be no sound - no ring, no mp3 audio, nothing. Sound would be restored after soft reset, but would again disappear sometime after being powered down. I tried everything to fix - reflashed various roms, SRS WOW driver, everything - no fix to be found. The only way I could prevent the sound from disappearing was to use the "not suspend power" option of S2U2 - sound was maintained but it sucked battery like crazy. So, I returned the phone for exchange - they exchanged no problem. I haven't had a problem since with the new phone.
Phone not ringing for incoming calls
I've had this problem twice in the last couple of days. After testing a few scenarios I have been able to reproduce this problem on my TD. Like other users, the problem that I was experiencing was that my TD would not ring upon an incoming call. It would flash the screen and show caller ID, but no sound. Ring volume and system volumes were both at max.
I have been using an alarm application, G-Alarm v0.6.4. This app was installed to the device memory. After setting a test alarm and cancelling it, I then called my TD and the problem was reproduced. Are any other TD owners with this bug also using G-Alarm? (I also found that the G-Alarm was not stopping by pressing "Stop", so thought it was a bit buggy.)
I could restore the phone ringer by opening Settings -> Sounds & Notifications -> Notifications. I found that my original ring tone for an incomming call had changed by itself. When I restored the ringer to my chosen ringtone, problem solved.
I uninstalled G-Alarm and so far so good.
I'm interested to see if any others with this problem are using G-Alarm or any other 3rd party alarm app.
Regards,
Paul
Paul, I also seemed to have run into the same issue with g-alarm. I say seem because although I did a hard reset the issue has persisted. The issue seems to frequently crop up when I switch sound profiles.
I've the same problem. No Sound after some call or others sounds play. When this happens and if I receive a call the others not listen my voice. This means that when audio disappear, speaker and also microphone not work, like the system can't comunicate with them. The volume control not resolve my problem. I've done HR and with nothing installed in my phone the problem come back again after few minutes. So it's not a problem of third part bad software, but htc orginal software or hardware problem.
Anyone solve it o have idea?
Thanks!
Perfect solution sickboy555 - I feel a right twit!!!!
no sound
So, for me, the Diamond is a dead brick - just good to look at, with no sound after 15 or even 10 minutes of standby.
can anyone just tell me if this type of a problem may be related to 1. Hardware, or 2. software.
I've given it to the shop from where i bought it from, but they keep on returning me the phone after a week to 10 days, telling that it's been fixed now. But the problem still persists, and I keep on giving them the brick back again and again.
Frustrated, i wonder if I can fix it myself, or just go to the shop, and throw it against the wall and count the pieces !!!!!!!!

glad to have helped!
I'm not sure if there is a real hardware issue as well. Are the others with the "same" problem sure they followed the guidance????
Hi Sickboy555,
yes I checked your advice but this wasn't the cause of the problem for me. As posted earlier, for me it was caused by my G-Alarm application. It's been over a month now since uninstalling G-Alarm and the problem hasn't returned since.
you are the man,thank you.
Thanks. My incoming ring tone problem has been solved.
er...sorry..wat is the solution again?? i dun really get it...

No Sound on incoming calls?

My phone has developed a strange problem whereby it no longer makes any audible tone when someone rings! If I set it to vibrate, it does indeed vibrate, but if its set to ring, its completely silent. The incoming call notification is displayed from S2U2, and I’ve tried changing the ringtone to ensure it wasn’t having difficulty finding the file, but it doesn’t seem to work. I’ve verified the volume is set to ring, but its still not working. Has anyone experienced this or able to suggest a possible fix?
6.1 stock att tilt
I have the same problem and really like some help towad this matter. see mines is a little different it rings, but it's low but once the call comes to the end of the call volume get loud like it should at the begening. i thinks the cause of this is the s2u2 on my tilt . everything works but incoming call is so low ,I do't know someone was calling until they hang up the volume comes back it's like s2u2 ver.136 muffes my ringtone untile the call end someone please take the time out and give alittle help over here plz asp.
I have the same problem too. I changed from ATT stock ROM to Garmin DK 1.2 ROM and then after a month, the phone stopped ringing for incoming calls. I upgraded the ROM to Garmin DK 2 and the problem temporarily vanished and then started again after about a month.
Does anyone know about this problem? For now, I am installing the HTC Kaiser ROM to test if that solves the problem.
random freezing
I've been having the similar issues with my tilt. It freezes and will vibrate when a call comes, but no sound and it won't stop vibrating until i soft reset. It does it randomly and sometimes it freezes before the number can be displayed so it is shown as an unknown number and i don't know who's calling because after the phone restarts the last call is not in the history. I have a few programs installed like skyfire, tcpmp, s2p, and i use my bluetooth headset at almost all times and i still can't answer with the headset on. I also have the HTC home plugin installed but it came with the windows mobile 6.1 update.
idea
Hya,
I had the same problem with my Niki and it intercame even with the Kaiser.
On Niki the problem was on WM6.0 .. after I upgraded no problem came. The "vibration freeze" never happened again and it's ringing every time.
On Kaiser the problem was in mirror. The ringing functioned well with WM6.0 and the problem came with the upgrade to WM6.1.
I can only think that the problem was that the ROM was broken but not sure.
An idea which I can gave to you to resolve a bit the problem is to install SPB phone suit where you can set ringtones to the calls, SMS, MMS and e-mails (and on newer versions maybe to many other things). It worked on my Niki `till I didn't upgraded (I didn't try it on WM6.1).
Never tried on Kayser but it worked for sure on Hermes.
Just try it, you can be sure that you don't brake anything and SPB phone suite for me was a usefull prog. Friendly interface, easy use and VERY usefull.
Have luck

Ring Tone Sound Problem - Help

Hello all,
I though I had sorted the problem of the low ring tone when I installed the Audiopara cab file from here at XDA. Indeed it does raise the volume quite a bit but at a price...
After a few hours it randomly refuses to sound when someone rings, windows media player will only play at one volume (very loud) even when I have the volume turned right down for both the program and the phone / system itself, and my SPB alarm refuses to sound unless it's on the maximum volume setting within the program...turning the system volume down or off does nothing
Please can someone advise how to get the ring tone volume at a resonable level with sacrificing the problems above...
p.s. Have also tried HD tweak but that just disabled the ring tones altogether.
I used HTCVolume.cab it is on this forum, this fixed the problem for me, i hope this fixes your problem, you will probably need to find a way to remove the previous fixes first
Thanks for the reply...I'll download the cab file and try that.
I'll hard reset my device as I've had to do a number of times previous to get rid of the problem and try a fresh install....
Cheers
Just tried the cab posted below, installed it, soft reset and now the sound is as quiet, even a little quieter than normal.
Anyone got any ideas as i am missing so many texts and calls it's not even funny anymore. There's so much i love about this phone but not being able to hear calls and texts is a major problem...please can someone help :-(

Phone ring gone

Dear All,
For reason unknow, the phone ring gone. Vibrate mode work and if i select ring mode, vibrate comes out.
Have try the system setting. The ringtone function test mode also gone. No test tone can be played even for the default ring tone.
Any suggestion you can give me ? Hard resetting?
Thanks in advance
usually when my sound stops working i just have to soft reset so try that and also maybe a different ringtone
is this another of those headphone issues?
plug in and out your headphones several times, the X1 might think they are connected so doing this might solve it.
or just try turning the system volume up using the volume keys
thanks will try so, if not, then hv my first hard reset !!!
Might also be file associations ...
My ringtone went silent and when I looked with a file explorer app all my mp3's were missing an association (clicking the file did not play it but gave a message saying no application is associated)
My solution was to restore the association -I used SKTools
Just thought it might be that ...worth a try
hard reset solve the problem and i also downloaded the latest software from se, now i can use EDGE to surf, much faster internet speed than before (can't remember the software version, but worth a try 2)
Bump
I have had the same issue for the last 2 days. I have tried everything I could think of and hard reset is not an option. Maybe someone has an idea about what's wrong?
Test mode doesn't work.
When I click "ok" to set the ringtone our favourite four-coloured wheel pops up, spins for a couple of seconds and then it reverts back to the ringtone settings screen.
I deleted my most recent apps and games. I tried different sound files, checked the associations, cleared all the junk from the phone, etc, etc.
Official UK R3A ROM.
Facing the same problem previously.
What I did is increase the volume for both device & phone in speaker icon.
Noticed that I set the phone volume to the lowest range previously.
1. Device icon is for notification such as when you receive text msg.
2. Phone icon is for ringer volume.
Just tap on the speaker icon & you will see it.

lolz. That's the first thing we try.
I found that PhoneEx wasn't agreeing with the defaukt phone manager haha. Set the ringtone through the default manager as well, that is the solution. You can always uninstall PhoneEx, but I like it too much.
i have the same problem and found out that the media player cannot playback my sound files as well. The strange thing is, that i can play all the ringtones and sounds with the mort player...???
So it seams that the problem is caused by the media player, if i try to start the media player directly it doesn´t work either (without any error message).
Anyone an idea to solve the problem?
Many thanks in advance,
Hakamuri
One month ago, my X1 went back from support (case crack) but I noted that all sounds were gone (ring, music, etc): so they repaired the case but caused problem to the speaker. Of course it's in warranty and they fixed their fault: ready in only 2 days.
msolcia... did u kno what they did to fix it? i have same prblm after replacing my case....

Call ringtone lower than music and notification

hey guys just got my xperia 1 ii not long ago, everything went well except that after updating to android 11,
my incoming call ringtone has reduced significantly. I thought my speaker got problem but the thing is , media, alarm and even message notification sound remain loud but my incoming call ringtone has becoming alot softer so it should not be speaker problem right?
i tried downloading a 3rd party app for ringtone, the ringtones when played on the app itself were loud but once i set one of them as my phone call ringtone, the volume reduced!
i suspect is software problem but cant find a setting that would fix it. Maybe a certain app that i installed caused it but i have no idea which. Any ideas what could it be? factory reset would be my last solution but i hope it can be fixed without a reset since i have set everything nicely on the phone.
Hi try this app, This might work for you.
It will increase ringtone volume to 100% before receiving normal call.
P.S tested on galaxy devices.
