Get it here http://www.palm.com/au/support/treo750/downloads/wm6update.html
ei, were you able to download and install it? I am getting an error message:
Error message:
"update is intended to update the 750 smartphone, it is not intended to update the language"
Error message appears in the computer when running the executable file.
I'm running Windows XP SP2
Option is TRY AGAIN. Same thing happens when you click on TRY AGAIN.
My language setting is set to english. My phone is also set to english....any idea on how to resolve this issue?
I have Version TREO750-2.23-RWE, I was able to download the Telstra release using my serial number, but could only open the zip file with winrar.
When I tried updating, I get error, "This updater only works with Palm Treo 750 Smartphone"
My unit was a replacement from Palm not the original Telstra unit, so I was able to upgrade with the 2.23.
Should I try the Telstra release?
Any ideas

open with wirar and extrac cheeimg and do a mini sd upgrde
I got it to work by editing the payload.xml file, changing the high to 2.23 and the RWE to ROW as these was my version (search the forum for this method)
Now have TREO750-2.26RWE
1.54.31.00
TEL-WM6-026
CARRIER DB 392
I now have all GSM/UMTS selections
Only Telstra stuff I have found is My Place and Telstra Business.
Mine installed without any issues but I had trouble with the download initially from Palm and with unzipping it. (I also used winrar.) I have to say I'm not particularly enamoured with Palm's method of restricting users to one download per serial since I just added one digit to my original serial and it then downloaded fine. STUPID!

...and the worst looking wallpaper I've ever seen! This is what it took them so long to do???
I just updated this over the Palm Generic Three 2.23 ROM and it definitely seems slower, and still unstable unfortunately. I am getting dropped calls randomly, it looks like when a data connection starts in the middle of a call, it will drop the call mabye 50% of the time?
Currently have installed
1. Opera 8.65
2. HTC X-Button 2.0
3. Fring (Latest on webby)
4. Esmertec Java + Skype (iSkoot Java Version)
Configured Services
1. Windows Live Hotmail Push (As items arrive)
2. Exchange Activesync (As items arrive)
Phone is using a 3 simcard, on X-Series Silver. What i might do is run virgin OS with no additional third party software, and just activate push hotmail + exchange and see what happens.
Previously using the generic Palm 2.23 ROM, seemed quite alot snappier, after trying this Telstra upgrade, even though its 2.26, i cannot seem to see any differences in usage, just a noticible slowdown in speed + a few additional icons. HSDPA Connection via BT on Internet Sharing on my laptop seems slower too, may have to try that again at different locations.
Any ideas/suggestions? Maybe i need to somehow edit the NBH so less software get installed? Or somehow have a "msconfig" equivalent to disable some auto startup programs? (Please advise on this for those that know how)
Thanks guys

From my experience, 2.23 ROM and 3AU's Radio is the best combination for me so far.
all works just fine for me... im dissapointed that the rom is a down grade from the att rom as far as the wm6 build is concerned...no surprises for telstra though...

Hey mate
Would you happen to know where i can get them seperately?? Would i just flash 3AU's ROM + Radio then extract the Generic Palm's 2.23ROM NBH and flash using the SD method?
Ive been flashing by modifying the payload.xml file method.
Thanks
now, I am encountering another problem...
was able to see the first page. But when i click on Start update, it would just show me a blank screen....any help?

Flash the 2.23 ROM first then Flash the 3AU Radio only ROM. The 2.23 ROM is here and you can get the Radio ROM(152.30) and instruction here
Well, i put up with using WM5 for the couple of months, and have been eagerly looking forward to the new skinned interface.
Just as i was about to use an un-official flash, Telstra finally released their ROM. Awesomeness.
Tried flashing in Vista, no go. XP 64bit, *almost* happened twice, then it wouldnt recognise my phone. Gave up with some programs, etc, and loaded up XP 32bit.
Flashed with no issues the first time, loaded updates with no hassles, and im now burdening down the phone with all the tweaks and programs i like to put on my devices.
Does anyone know what clock speed this ROM sets your phone to ? These are supposed to be a 300MHz processor in them, but when i ran 0mapclock before, and set it to 150MHz, i saw a major increase of speed. Not sure how accurate the program was, as it never seemed to remember my clocks, but it made me wonder what it runs at stock ... going to try under this OS and see if it works any better.
Edit: BTW, i have a Treo 750

I have installed the 1.12.10 GSM on it after making backups with aWizard. I am happy to report that it does work and that it does speed up the initial connection. Before (with 1.09.11 I beleive) I could log into (enter my PIN) and would still have some time before I would connect and get signal bars. It also seemed to increase refresh rates of the bars. Now the signal is usually found before I even finish entering my PIN muchless the today screen loading.
These tests were made in my basement at my house where I typically have been getting 1-3 bars. now to test 1.13.10 and 2.8 OS to see if it works.
I will say I thought it broke at first because I couldn't get my PC to talk to it after it reloaded, then I did another soft reset and the boot screen the second time didn't list the GSM version, even though the OS did see and use GSM. I re-ran the CID unlock procedure again since I could talk to the phone again. Reset again and GSM ver was on the boot screen again.
I also swapped out the boot screen for a bmp and that worked wonderfully. my only question is if there is a way to swap out the booting screen of the OS and not just the IPL Rom.
cheers,
ET
I have just done the RUU install of 2.16.9.101 which also upgrades IPL/SPL to 2.16. It changed my radio version to 2.7.10 and my protocol version is 413.1.0.3. This ROM date is 2/6/06.
Immediate differences are the battery notification is now at the top where on Cingular's ROM it was at the bottom next to the comm switch program. That and everything is I-Mate branded. No Get Good, but instead now I have I-Mate backgammon and Skype. And instead of the Cingular Mail link now there is an I-Mate mail link.
I will update later with more.
More... OS ver 5.1.195 build 14847.2.0.0 IDK if this is different or not.
Update 11AM: I have tested more. ZPhone themes I can't seem to install... IDK why but with the original Cingular ROM I couldn't either. The original ROM had a bug that used the proxy of the modem setting on the wifi setting making wifi not work unless you went and disabled it since it is enabled by default. This new rom after installing "Cingulcustomize_No_Emails.cab" to get MediaNet back, wifi just works. Even with the Proxy set on the modem connection. My Bluetooh headset (Jabra HT800) works great. Comm Manager is real nice. Even showing you the status of SMS and GPRS/EDGE connection. I want to play with it a little more to see if I can control those two or not. Gone from teh Cingular ROM is the ability to click on the Edge status icon in the notification area and tell it to turn on Wifi. But the Turn on Flight Mode still exists under the Cell Strength bar. Signal strength is comperable to the 1.12.10 radio rom I had before the upgrade. And IDK if it is taking longer to load from a reset or not, but before the Phone radio would be up and running just as I was finishing putting in my PIN unlock. But now it is running and connected before I can even start to input it. Just observation, that extra second doesn't mean anything.
I also have the 8125, so I am curious if the Imate ROM will cause any problems after the upgrade. I am not sure I want to wait a few more months until Cingular gets around to providing their upgrade.
Some other posters with the test/beta Qtek AKU 2.0 rom reported that they had trouble with the device resetting itself and problems with Wi-Fi. Let us know if you experience any issues with this ROM.
How has EDGE speed been, any improvements over the shipped ROM? Have you tried push email?
ok, i updated my 8125 to the new rom and am having two issues atm. first, the phone signal icon and the battery icon on the today screen is cut off so i only see the edge icon. secondly, i cannot start wifi at all, no matter what i do :\ (it looks like it's thinking but doesn't actually turn on ) now i did apply the cingular extended rom to this so i dont know if that caused both issues or not. as for edge performance, i'm in an area with bad signal so i couldnt exactly test it. i'm going to be clearing storage tonight and see if that fixes both issues or not. i haven't tested push e-mail as clubimates servers AREN'T supporting direct push (ie they don't have SP2 installed or have it enabled on exchange).
Locked up
Well I am noticing that it is locking up if I let it sit for a while to where I can't bring it back up. I have disabled the lock code to see if that fixes it.
I would have a feeling that the problems you are having are because of the enhanced rom difference. it won't hurt to try it as is like I did since you are having problems with it.
were can I fine install
I look for the rom in the ftp but there is no RUU install of 2.16.9.101 can you please tell me where can I fin this rom
thank you

I haven't had it lock up on me since I uninstalled battery pack pro, disabled lock code, and uninstalled skype & backgammon so take your pick as to what fixed it. I will do some more expereriments to try and figure iit out.

Are you having the same issues as darkjedi who said he's having problems with WiFi and signal strength icon?
after the upgrade i cant find the GPS ICON
even i try to delete the redirect string in the registry like i used to do before
still i cant see the icon on my setting page
please anyone noticed this problem ?

i finally fixed the signal strength icon (but don't ask me how), but wifi is still borked
no more problems, lock ups or otherwise
My guess with my problems were related to Battery Pack Pro demo. Even on the original rom I couldn't get it to work right with the assignable hard keys.
Anyway, I did not modify the original EXE one bit like darkjedi said he did. He seems to be much more advanced as I don't know how to do what he did and not that familier with its registry settings yet. But I naver had any problems with Wifi nor with icon placement.
My home wifi does use WPS-PSK TKIP using a Netgear WG302. Battery life seems good, but I do get a little crackle every now and then on my end of the bluetooth handsfree. People I talk to haven't said they hear anything other than perfect clarity. I would have been told if they heard anything since part of my reason to spend the money now rather than later was my voice and signal quality on my old Nokia was getting to be bad and they wouldn't waste a second ragging me if voice and signal problems were re-appearing. But mostly the crackle is few and far between and usually when my headset is on the other side of my body or I am a few feet away from my phone.
i didn't modify the original EXE, i installed it as normal, then after the fact, copied the cingular extended ROM then installed each cab manually. i didn't get a chance to try wifi before i applied the extended rom, but i just might hard reset and try that.
i dnt see the rush to upgrade if u have a cingular 8125 since there goa offer rom upgrades for the unit. with all the bugs i rather just get a ad2 bt plugin (wish they made it) and just do that
what roms do they offer? On my past phones I have had to have major problems before they would flash a new version of the Rom (my last 2 symbian phones).

ok... the only cab I installed for Cingular was the one I mentioned earlier. I have since installed spb power plus and their weather app and I am still stable. Not one failuer and my bluetooth is actually acting better from some reason. I was working on my car today with teh phone in the car and I was about 10 feet away without any noise or other problems.

Is there any settings to configure edge? I only see GPRS in the connections section.
This version appears quite stable but's only my second day since upgrading my 8125 from the QTECH 2.8.7.102. I really like the Comm manager and the Push Email icon works great.
Thanks!

On the new imate ROM I'm getting between 65 and 110 kbps on edge. Latency is still crap at about 1.5 seconds on average, but that's what it's always been for me.
Direct push is great. Assuming you have Exch SP2 installed, push works without any other changes. I'm averaging between 7 and 10 seconds for an entry to push out after it gets to Exchange. I haven't installed the device management tools yet, but I'll do that soon and let you know how well they work.
I just noticed wifi isn't working. If I enable it in comm manager, the button is ringed in green as if it's on, but the left green led does not blink and it does not detect my open, unsecured access point. I did install the cabs from my original cingular extended rom, and one of those appears realted to wifi, but not sure what it does. I'll mess around some more and see what I can do. I'm not totally heartbroken that wifi is messed up, but it does bug me that I don't know why it aint working.

Where did you get the "Cingulcustomize_No_Emails.cab" file? I have searched everywhere and cannot find it! Help?
Any of you 8125 owners who installed the imate 2.16.9.101 release have any new feedback on how it's going? Are there still issues with the connection icons or wifi connectivity?
I'm eager to get push mail working and have not been able to get a straight answer from a dozen different folks at Cingular on when their release will come out...so I might give the imate release a shot.
What about going back to the shipping Cingular version after installing the imate update - is it easy/possible? Any problems with extended ROM?
thx
I never even used the phone with the original cingular firmware, I went directly to the Q-tek Test rom. From that rom to this rom, the radios seem a little better (getting better signal, edge seems slightly faster, wifi picks up network much faster) and for some reason the whole feel is "snappier" seems like the menus and such load faster. I haven't had any stability issues, and push is working perfect.
I dont' know about the much faster part, but mine is very stable since i removed battery pack pro. I have SPB's power plus as well as their weather software.
if there are any software you want tested just let me know. Well if I can atleast run it without having to buy it, (i.e. Demos, etc.)
Bluetooth, Wifi, Edge, and signal are all real good. (signal on par with 1.12 radio as well as faster to get a signal than it was)
Battery icon is NOT on the bottom and does NOT show more than 2 bars ( so you have full, somewhere in between, and low).
Battery life seems pretty good, but I can't compare it to any other version as I had the phone 36 hours before I upgraded it to this version.
Great thanks for the feedback yall. So once I do the upgrade, how hard will it be to go back to the shipped version if I ever need to? I have everything backed up using awizard, but I understand there could be problems trying to go to a previous version. I think downgrading via the bootloader mode requires executable rom images, but there isn't one available for the shipping version.
You can still downgrade to an old imate ROM and then use aWizard to restore your cingular ROM.
I have installed it on my Qtek 9100.
I hanged 5 times in 2 days.
What is more annoying is when it hangs and
someone tries to call me at the same time, the
other party hears my phone ringing, but my
Qtek is dead silent.

Is your wifi working OK? If so, did you install any of the cingular exrom customizations?
Just curious, because I installed the released imate rom and everything is working like a champ except wifi. I installed some of the original customizations from the cingular exrom and I wonder if one of those cabs did something to the wifi config...
What kind of porblems are you having with the wifi?

It won't turn on.. =)
I thought perhaps it was one of the cingular customization cabs I installed from the original exrom, but now I'm not so sure. I looked at all the cabs and the only one that relates to wifi is the cab that sets the key to enable talking to 802.11g APs.
In comm manager, if I click the wifi icon, it appears to attempt to start wifi, but then goes back to an "x" over the wifi button. The wifi radio doesn't start and the left LED that blinks when wifi is on does not come on.
I wish there were some logs to look at on this thing to see why it's failing to start wifi..
Solved the wifi problem. It appears to be related to something in one of the original 8125 exrom cabs. I reinstalled the new imate rom, skipped the imate exrom install, and only installed a couple cabs from the 8125 exrom. The cabs I installed that did not affect wifi were the mms config, the gprs account config, and the edge icon.
All is now well. If I had the time and patience I'd tear apart the original 8125 cabs to see which one might cause wifi probs, but at this point it's not necessary.
I'll stick with it as-is now until cingular releases their own update...assuming that happens before the hermes is out.. =)
I have a Dopod 838 (identical to 8125, I suppose). The new ROM has worked awesome for me. Better in every way. Even the infamous Activesyn problem went away
I am getting ready to take the plunge...just in case...
does anyone have the original 8125 ROM?
I use SPB backup can restore a backup after I upgrade?
I installed this rom on my 9100, and it is much better than it was with any of the other roms including the original shipped rom!
The radio is much clearer and the wifi hooks up faster and runs better, and I have had absolutely NO lock ups at all.
Later
I am thinking of installing it on an 8125...
Without a backup 'known good' ROM to revert back to I am cautious

I added the extROM files one by one to see which one caused the wifi issue and it was Signed-gprsstall_128.sa.cab...so far. It was only the third one in a series of 17. I'll see what happens when I add the rest. This cab file moves a radio.dll file around.
I've installed this ROM on 2 8125's. Much better and faster than Cingular's ROM. The only thing I did was to install the Cingulcustomize_No_Emails.cab, Microsoft Voice and TRE Pocket PC registry editor and remove all traces of the Voice Command. WiFi connects to my secured access point flawlessly (though I never use WiFi) and the AKU2 push email typically has my emails coming in in about 8-10 seconds from my Exchange 2003 server. Very infrequent lockups, much less than any other ROM I've installed.
Just my two cents worth ...

I have a cingular 8125. I'm no stranger to flashing roms, I had a SX66 that was running WM5 and I reloladed it all the time. I'd like to see a step by step guide for unlocking the ext rom, flashing the radio and system roms for the 8125. Anyone know a post with that info in it?
Thanks!

Interesting you say you're no stranger to flashing ROMs but then ask for a step by step.
It's laid out quite well in several topics, but basically:
-Use awizard and enable rapi
-Use awizard and CID unlock
-Use awizard to back up Extrom, radio, splash, os
-Run the executable RUU installer for the imate
-On first boot, as soon as you get prompted to choose a carrier, do a soft reset to prevent the imate ext rom stuff from loading
-Install desired customization items from your backed up cingular ext rom. Any of them can be installed EXCPET the gprsstall cab - it will kill your wifi.
There is currently no way to unlock the ext rom in the lates imate upgrade, so you're stuck with what's in there, but you don't have to let it install.
I've been testing for three weeks TuMa v1.3 and Ivan's WM5 pda2K_2k5.rar and chosing myself the cabs I wanted to add. I have also tested Ivan's latest versions but I couldn't make the Extended_ROM work properly, I didn't like the splash screen and some minor customization issues so, at the end, I decided to go back to the old WM2k3... shame!
I was happier with Ivan's first version because it's faster and clean.
Though, there's a big problem: Extended ROM is not supported in this version. I would like to ask Commant Ivan if it will be possible to produce a "clean" ROM as v4 R0 JUST with the possibility of having a directory "\Extended_ROM" in the SD Card where we can add the Extended ROM cabs, same as TuMA ver 1.3.
I believe the most important thing is have a clean ROM and to move the Extended ROM to the SD Card. In this way, we can have more room for WM5 in our BA, updates and patches are easier to install but we can also chose the cabs we want to use and personalize our Extended ROMs with OEM programs (as TomTom, utilities, etc)
What do you think, Commandant Ivan and TuMa?
Thank you anyway Ivan and TuMa for your great job with WM5!
I didn't think Ivan's ROM had anything on it on a default install? Just the stuff that comes with WM5 cause Microsoft put it there, and a few driver updates (like the BT Stack.) Maybe when you installed it you setup the autorun to install all the cab packages that come with it. I just ignored these and added them manualy later on.
I've found that although Ivan's ROM is alot cleaner and faster on a fresh install, once I've installed all my software it slows down again even with a overclock, where as with TuMa a fresh install is alittle laggy, but it already has loads of stuff hardcoded into the ROM so with the same overclock it becomes really responsive.
Bearing in mind I've only been testing Ivan's for a couple of days though!
At the moment I'm with Ivan's ROM simply because of a few bug fixes it has over TuMa 1.3. I did at one point go back to WM2003se but after using WM5 for awhile, it just isnt the same.
@Artz
What exactly is the problem with your extended rom ? (Size, errors that occur, etc.)
@ Lt.Cmdr.Ivan
Ivan, I've testing your latest release v4 R1 for the last few hours. I must say I don't have further problems with the Extended ROM issues as I had with previous releases.
Though, I still think that moving the Extended ROM folder (with Autorun support) to a folder in the Storage Card (ie \Storage Card\Extended_ROM) will be a good idea, because:
1.- we can use the full size of the device extended ROM for WM5 programs,
2.- we can use "DOC_Tool_1.0.exe" and "DOC_Restore_1.0.exe" to upgrade and downgrade easily. As you know, these tools work perfect with WM2k3SE and WM5 and they will use all the Extended ROM memory for programs. You don't even need to make visible the extended ROM... so much easier to use than DOC_Repart.
3.- we can cook your own extended ROMs and put in that folder all our favorites cabs so they will be installed automatically after a hard reset (every time I test a new version I have to reinstall manually TomTom and other utilities, which it's really silly when I have 1Gb SD Card)
Something I would like to see also in a next version is to have your "Cert_SPCS_disable.CAB" already included in ROM... In this way, we can use TPDISABLE and TPENABLE.EXE in our config.txt
I realized when you change the value in "Settings", then "Error Reporting" and check "Disable Error Reporting", WM5 won't check digital signatures. I didn't have time to check which value of the Registry is modified doing that. I'm pretty sure it's possible to do this without using XML language (as in the cab "Cert_SPCS_disable.CAB"
Just one thing more... but that's just personal taste: I would like not to have the modified splash screen. I would prefer you remove the "welcomehead.96.png" file in order to start my BA with the default WM5 splash screen. I do understand you are proud of your work and you like to see your name... ;-)
All these remarks are just constructive. I appreciate a great deal your work to install WM5 in our all BAs, mate. Thanks a lot.
My two dream things for the BA are...
1. GSM Power Hack. When in a one bar or less signal area, you can enable this switch to overpower power your phone (illegal of course) so that it is more likely to be in range. You could proberly extend this to Wireless and Bluetooth if you wanted. Course it would drain your battery like a short circuit. Isn't they some way the power gets bosted for emergancy 911/999 calls already?
2. Sim Card IMEI Memory Prog. Sure someone asked for this before in a previous topic. A nifty program that will download all the details from your sim card and then create a "Virtual SIM" on your phone, allowing you to have two numbers (or maybe even more?) on your phone without any hardware mods. Of course, this would proberly need a serious firmware hack to do, I mean how do you choice with number to call or send a message from?
Makes you wonder though, could you have a Virtual SIM in one phone and a Hard SIM of the same IMEI, and get two mobiles to ring at once?
Of course, these are the *Ultimate* doubt it will never happen dreams.

This works. But some operators detect this and block you.
i thought to ope a new thread about this.
i tried to get bb connect on wm6 (at&t) versions 2 and 4.
i didn't get any of them to work.
did sombody succeeded in the meantime?
is there a new version coming up?
hope te hear...
Tried them both too on my 750C w/ WM6, unsuccessful. Right now I am on BBC 4.0.0.90, still not working, getting from: No Connection -> Network Available -> Data Tunnel Available (at this point gets an IP address) -> No connection. The PIN is never generated so BBC is unusable for now. I was following a thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=294218 , tried to modify my AKU version (didn't try to modify the build in the ROM though) w/ no results.
In the mean while, Hermes/ATT 8525 w/ WM6 and BBC 4.0.0.90 works just fine. What are we missing here ? Anyone w/ a clue ?
I am happy that someone opened a thread for this, I hope we'll get a fix.
Thanks,
HC
i've upgraded mine with wm6 non attws , unable to connect on bbc4 as well
does anybody know the latest b uild of the bb connect software (and where to get it)
i have (downloaded from vodafone nl)
blackberry version 4.0.0.67
transport version 4.0.0.70
and does anybody has a list of new features in later releases
I have 4.0.0.90, check the thread that I posted above for links to download it. Also Google for "Blackberry Connect 4.0.0.90" and I am sure you'll get something. I think the 4.0.0.90 version is not specifically for Treo 750, it's rather for larger screen devices, like the Hermes etc. but it doesn't bother me scrolling a little bit in one or two tabs.
Good luck,
HC
i'm on 750v wm6.0 vodafone and can't get bbc4 to work
not even 2.1
argh!
pissing me off!
I recommend you just to wait a couple of days with the device switched off. I have a HTC Touch, vodafone, Germany. Downloaded Blackberry 2.1 and 4.0, didn't work. Never got a PIN ("PIN pending"). Read somewhere that it worked after a couple of days, so I switched my device off and was frustrated. I even wanted to sell it on eBay already. After 2 days I switched it on again, and, guess what, I had a PIN in the Blackberry software!!! Then I configured my Touch using BlackBerry Activesync Software, and it's now working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Version 4.0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So my recommendation: Try to wait 48 hours.
Currently no BB client is working with WM6 Treo, no matter if you use 2.1.2.52 or 4.0.0.67 or 4.0.0.90. Its always the same, as soon as you connect to the BlackBerry infrastructure you are blocked >>> no IP-adress >>> no connection. Sometimes you can connect one time and when you send the PIN via register now you lose the connection and never get it back again. RIM blocks all device/client/provider combinations which are not supported by the providers. So if you have a provider who supports BlackBerry on WM6 Treo you should be able to connect. I have not found a provider who is doing that so far. The same is with HTC S710. This device worked fine with BB connect 4.0.0.67 for some time, but now you are blocked by RIM if your provider does not support BB on the device.

Wrong. I have been using BBC 4 on my Hermes for months with AT&T and as far as I know the Hermes is supposed to be a "blocked" device. It's not that RIM is blocking it, it's that the software has to be HEX edited to work with WM6. No version of BBC will work on WM6 on the Treo until someone smarter than me can cook up a ROM that is HEX edited to run BBC.
Anyone succeeded in gettings this to work - I'm about to flash to Wm6 so better be sure...

I just got this and it works perfectly on my S710. I had got wipe the device and do a fresh install of the application. Give it a shot. Make sure you have an Active Sync connection to your device before trying to install.
http://sems.org/content/download/bbc4/bbconnect_wm6_standard_bb_4.0.0.84.zip
On the AT&T Rom you get Uncertified System Software detected on the install. I assume this is because the S710 is a smartphone rather than a WM device?
Strange thing today on my 750c - Got PIN
Hi all,
It seems that something is changing w/ either RIM or ATT. I installed again today BBC 4.0.0.90 onto my 750c w/ WM6 ATT leaked ROM, after the normal reboot, surprisingly, BBC service connected to the network and I got a PIN. Clearly it said "Connected" on the status tab. Well, I connected the device to my laptop and ran the BBC Desktop, the system was provisioned properly (I think ...), Notes Backend, but now it fails to connect to Blackberry, same symptoms as before, even after multiple soft resets, see comments above. I'll play around some more w/ it and let you all know if I get anything to work. In the mean while, if anyone else has any success, please share ....
Good luck
HC
PS. Posted this in the "Palm Treo 750" forum too ... hope I don't bother anyone

Does it just work or did you modify any strings in the ROM? which rom by the way?

Still doesn't work. I tried to install/uninstall etc. w/ same results, no connection. I am using the leaked ATT rom which otherwise works fine, no strings mods, just the rom w/o any modifications.
Hope this answers your question.

Just did it, same result, no connection. I am uninstalling it right now. Too bad. Again, I think it has to do w/ the device type not the software itself. I have a 750C w/ leaked ATT rom
Anyone w/ other results ?
Thanks,

Installs fine. Gives me PIN and IMEI but no IP and no connection. IT says Network Available and tries to reconnect every few mins. I'll wait for few hours before unistalling it. Sometimes Blackberry Service can take little bit longer to register on USA T-mobile provider.

What kind of device ? 750C or 750V etc.
Thanks,
HC
750V with Vodafone WM6.
Now it flashes with an IP for about a second.
Not sure how this has come about but I used to be able to connect to internet really easily through my work laptop when the TyTn II was connected by either Bluetooth or USB. Now I don't seem to be able to connect to either????
When connecting through USB I seem to be able to connect to the PC via 'Internet Sharing' which also lights up the 'Data Connection' icon but when I try to use IE it just says 'Cannot connect using current settings'. Thing is, I haven't changed anything and it used to work fine. Getting a bit fed up with the whole TyTn II at moment as I seem to spend more time fathoming why it's not doing what I want than doing it. Beginning to think a seperate phone/PDA may be best way ahead.
Unsure of whether the problem is related to the official 6.1 upgrade or the install of NoData (as I got fed up with accidentally hitting the weather and Quick GPS refresh and having the phone eat money).
Regardless of what I try I can't seem to get it to connect to internet albeit phone shows as connected via both Bluetooth or USB.
Short of solving this (and I'm not sure where to start) I'm temted to do a reflash and leave out things like No Data etc etc and just see if it works again. Bit of a nuisance really.
Tried searching all manner of related topics but no joy so far
It is a problem with the WM 6.1 official HTC update
I had exactly the same problem in reverse with my TyTN II when it was running the WM 6.1 (the same official HTC ROM that you have). By 'in reverse' I mean I couldn't initially do internet related things on the TyTN II using my home internet (either via USB or Bluetooth connection). It was fine before but after the upgrade thats when the problem occurred. I didn't have any additional software installed apart from Tomtom Navigator 6.032 (HTC Version) so I don't think your NoData install will be to blame (at least not solely). I did manage to get pocket IE working under these circumstances though after I had a fiddle around in the connections tab under settings - or was it Activesyncs settings.... I could never get the automatic Quick GPS updates to occur though, even under those settings and I still had to manually update (although it did use the home internet connection when I did this).
I remember that I changed a drop down selection from something along the lines of this device is connected to 'Auto' to make it 'The Internet'. Sorry for being so vague but I've now reverted to the original WM 6.0 ROM (more precisely I had HTC do it for free under the warranty) and none of the options I'm looking at now ring any bells. Perhaps someone else recalls more clearly what settings change is required.
I think the most important part of your post is:

Thats how I felt about the HTC upgrade that wasn't. I was quick to go down the upgrade path but since it's been back with WM 6.0 other than a few uncommanded resets in the first day or two which haven't since reoccured, the device is now rock solid again. Of course it'd be nice to think the latest HTC upgrade didn't introduce more problems than were already present but in my experience their current update is more trouble than it's worth (and you haven't even mentioned GPS). If you decide you want it reverted under warranty, I found the HTC Repair Centre (at least here in the UK) to do a fine job of it. I dropped off my phone in the morning, after booking it in over ther phone the day before and it was ready at the end of the same day.

Or you can always download the original shipped roms here off the wiki and flash it yourself. It only takes about 10 minutes. You dont have to download a special SPL for an OEM rom

I was tempted to do that myself (and even asked HTC for the downgrade file to do so) but there are a couple of issues for those of us that like to keep things 'HTC Official'. A big one for me is that since HTC was responsible for creating the buggy WM 6.1 ROM, they should also accept responsibility for fixing it (fat chance of that, I agree with what -888- wrote in the WM 6.0 vs. WM 6.1 thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432482&page=4 along the lines of the best developers being assigned to the latest and greatest products). If they're not going to fix it, then they should at least revert the device to a reliable state. I was in a fortunate position to be in the area of the HTC Repair Centre but if it means sending the phone away, I understand why some might prefer the DIY option.

There's alot to digest about ROM (and Radio and spl) flashing in the wiki and that takes much more than 10 mins. Although a special spl such as hardSPL isn't used with the HTC official setups, the spl does need to be reverted from the 3.28 version with the official WM 6.1 WWE, back to a 1.xx version with WM 6.0 for proper functioning. That isn't just a simple case of running the RUU program like the upgrade to WM 6.1 was - it has to be manually reverted (presumably using something like jumpSPL and the procedure in the wiki for restoring a device for warranty purposes) so it gets more complicated. I was expecting spl version something along the lines of 1.56 on my WM 6.0 setup (to match the ROM numbers) but they installed 1.93, presumably because it was more reliable or offered other performance benifits. Perhaps the ideal spl is in the package already but again this cant just be run like the WM 6.1 upgrade was so there's some jiggery pokery involved
I tend to agree. Not sure why I really bothered with 6.1. One of the first things I did was use Kaiser Tweaks to turn threaded SMS off.
I didn't realise that reverting to WM 6.0 would require more than reflashing so that makes it a little more problematic. I'm not near a HTC Centre. The whole device certainly seems more buggy under 6.1 than it did before and this internet through laptop problem is a nuisance. Being fairly unimpressed with Co-Pilot I don't use GPS that much and, withe the aside that i think I've used the keyboard twice since I had it (another 'essential' I'd put on my list for phone/PDA attributes), I'm beginning to wonder if return to factor state and sell it might not be the better option, reverting to a Nokia E51 and Ipaq 214 Enterprise combination
Post is an option.

Of course it's up to you but don't forget that even though you may not be near a HTC Repair Centre, you could still call them up on the phone to make the booking and post the device to them once you've arranged to have it reverted. They should do it for free but confirm this so you don't get any unpleasant surprises.
