Hi
Before I start posting for real I just want to double check that this is the correct section for my device. I bought it as a HTC TyTN II on the Orange network in the UK. I'm really confused by all the names these can be called by so if someone can confirm I'm in the right place that would be great...someone said I have a Hermes but the picture doesn't look quite right! Would it be a good idea to include as many of the various names on the forum index as poss?
Thanks
A TyTN II is a kaiser one, not a hermes. Hermes is the first TyTN

Look at the pictures
Great thanks for that - I tried a search on the general site for 'model list' but didn't find that page,
Thanks again - now all is clearer...
The Kaiser comes under a plethora of different names:
HTC TyTn II
T-Mobile MDA Vario III
AT&T Tilt (Pretty much the same without the front camera)
Vodafone v1615
O2 XDA Stellar (There are rumours that this has an FM radio built in but the O2 UK stores and website deny this)

Does anyone know when the Kaiser is going to be released on one of the UK networks as a subsidized device? My old Magician is getting REALLY long in the tooth now, and I can't afford £480 right now...
Scancom have it as pre-order for Orange Business, but doesn't give any dates...
I can't afford £480 either, but i just ordered one last night lol
I think it should be available on T-Mobile by the end of the month maybe? (As the MDA Vario III i'd imagine).
I'd hazard a guess that it'll be out on Orange maybe by the end of the year?
Problem is the design of the MDA Vario III looks really ugly (tacky silver finish) compared to HTC's original version of the Tytn II

Another reason why i chose the HTC over the T-Mobile variant
hi all
I am a bit confused ( dont take much these days) is the HTC TYTN II the Kaiser, as they look very similar and when i google it thats what i find..
also as anyone got one recently from t-mobile as i am due a upgrade and how much did they pay for it.
Cheers for the help
Neel
Yes the Kaiser was renamed the TyTN II. Not sure about your second question.
HTC Kaiser / HTC TyTn II / T-Mobile Vario III = all the same thing
(except the Vario looks cheap and nasty)
T-Mobile is a worldwide company and people from across that world read this forum. Which T-mobile are you talking about?
I'm referring to the UK variant.

Sorry, that wasn't directed at you, but at the OP.
i am in the UK
As far as I know Kaiser is/was the name given by HTC during the development of the device. It is now sold as the HTC Tytn II. TMobile UK are selling/will be selling this as the MDAvario III. Vodaphone UK will also carry this device as V165 or something similar. All of these devices are manufactured by HTC. Most providers will have their own customised ROM installed. Currently we are unable to CID unlock these devices and so we are stuck with default provider ROMs. Eventually I am sure Pof or some other genius on here will work out how to CID unlock them and then the fun begins with our own customised ROMs.
Yep they are all Kaisers = generic name for all of them
TyTn II is the one sold under the HTC name and then as said above you have all the other variants as well.

Hi Guys,
I would like to ask if anyone knows what the differences are between the US and EU models of th TYTN II.
I would like to know because I am thinking of buying a TYTN II from the US and will be using it in the EU
thanks in advance
If by "US version" you mean the AT&T Tilt, then the difference is: $300 less, no front camera for video calls, and no TomTom GPS software. At least that the big differences...
Hi,
thanks for your input. Actually what i mean is when I go to online purchase sites like expansys I find the below when searching tytn II
HTC TyTN II
version: US, GPS, Unlocked
HTC TyTN II Value Pack
version: UK, QWERTY, GPS
HTC TyTN II
version: FR, AZERTY, GPS, EU
I think that in the french version above the keyboard layout is also different.
Could it be difference is only in the dictionary and keyboard layout between US and EU?
The US TILT keyboard will be different (QWERTY but different function keys) - and you can always put in a different dictionary. The language settings are in the ROM, not specific to the phone version. If you don't care about the front camera and different arrangement of the function keys then save some cash and buy a TILT.
Are these two phones the same? Do they have same hardware, functionality, etc, except, of course, that vario is network locked? My friend told me that he found on net that vario 3 is inferior than original tytn 2.
mda doesnt have build in GPS
yes it does.
Its exactly the same apart from the front button panel. (which in hardware terms is identical, it just looks a bit different)
The MDA Vario III is built on the exact same basic platform as the TyTn II, so it should be functionally identical.
All these phones are carrier locked unless it was already unlocked when you bought it (and you didn't buy it direct from a carrier).
There have been numerous T-Mobile "MDA" models previously that are inferior to the Vario III/TyTn II so your friend may have confused your phone with any one of them...

I personally think that the MDA Vario III looks nicer that the TyTN II.
Hi
I bought a MDA / diamond touch 2 off ebay locked to t mobile, i had it unlocked today but found out 3g wont work because tmobile have specific locked network settings! I'm nervous to flash the rom because its a MDA and no roms are listed for it, anyone know what if any roms and radio I should use to get t mobile out and o2 in?
Thanks
you'd probably better post this question in the right forum, you have a 'Topaz' (that's what the Diamond2 in here is called);
You posted in Diamond1 forum which is a different device....yours is alot newer
