O2 Pay and go Wap - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

I Currently have the O2 XDA Mini S (in the UK) and I have in it a Pay and go sim card, O2 have locked the device so that only contract customers can use GPRS and WAP functionality. Is there anyway around this? Will flashing the device resolve my problems?
Many thanks,
Josh.
*edit* I've just successfully flashed and unlocked the device, I was just wondering where I can get the settings I need for pay and go on o2, if not are there any other UK networks that do allow the Wizard to access the Internet on pay and go?
I've found the answer:
How do I manually check / setup the GPRS WAP settings?
Go to [Start]
Tap [Settings]
Tap [Connections]
Tap [Connections]
Under [My Work Network] tap [Manage Existing Connections]. If this is not present tap [Add a new modem connection]
Tap [Edit]
The [Select a Modem] drop-down box should be set to:
XDA Mini S: [Cellular Line (GPRS)]
Tap [Next]
The [Access Point Name] should be set to: wap.o2.co.uk [Post-Pay] payandgo.o2.co.uk [Pre-Pay]
Tap [Next]
The [Username] should be set to: o2wap [Post-Pay] payandgo [Pre-Pay]
The [Password] should be set to: password
Leave [Domain] blank
Tap [Advanced]
On the [TCP/IP] tab, only [Use Server-assigned IP Address] should be selected
Tap the [Servers] tab
Only [Use Server-assigned IP Address] should be selected
Tap [ok]
Tap [Finish]
Tap [Proxy Settings]
Tap [Advanced]
In the [WAP] field enter: 193.113.200.195
In the field to he right of this enter: 9201
In the [HTTP] field enter : 193.113.200.195
In the field to he right of this enter: 8080
Tap [ok] 4 times and exit
To access normal websites wsp:// needs to be placed before the address instead of http://
My final question now is whether there is a way to make it by default put wsp:// before web addresses instead of http://

Ahhh dood,
Thanks loads. I have been trying for AGES to get this wrking on payg
Finally!!
I have one of those Sims where i get free texts and 1MB of internet but never go the internet going but finally i can go on Messenger wherever!
Cheers a bunch!!

thanks!! i have also been trying to get gprs working on my mini s and now i can!!! * goes off to celebrate by not having to trawl around finding open access points to buy stuffies on ebay*

Operator Coniguration settings...

I know this has been asked before but 20 min with search and google has only come up with half answers so far.
I was wondering if there was a place that had all of the operator configuration settings. Finding the GPRS t-mobile USA settings are eas, but what about MMS, voicemail (seems not to work with generic world english ROMS), etc?
I have been looking through the ROMs but have found no easy way to rip them out for use with another ROM.
sorry for the probebly stupid post.

great write up! but unforunately, i tried it on my 8525 and it didn't work. i'm still not able to get MMS.
i assumed this would work on the 8525 as well.
Wizards are funny that way sometimes things work other they don't, at least that's what I have been able to understand from my experience with mines. About MMS settings I've noticed that if I do a hard reset and mess around with the settings a bit, and leave the MMS settings for latter that no matter how many times I put them in they won't work, now if I do a hard reset and the first thing I do before settings anything else up is do my MMS and my GPRS settings using the exact same settings everything works perfectly, and another thing I usually just punch in the settings myself, I haven't had one of those network settings cab work for me yet. In other words if you've tried everything else and no dice, you might think about doing a hard reset and setting up all these things as soon as you can.

I have used the setup above for years in my 8125.
Unfortunately, after July 23rd, TMO USA updated their system and my GPRS settings stop working for some reason...
Does anybody has the new GPRS configuration for TMO USA?
I struggled with this today as well until I tried Gateway "216.155.165.50" not "216.155.165.050". All is well now.

Basic Vodafone settings

Hi guys,
I have recently purchased a T-Mobile Vario III from a friend (unwanted upgrade) and unlocked it to use with my Vodafone PAYT SIM. I've also performed just about all of the de-branding available on this forum. However, the internet connection settings are still on T-Mobile and I can't find anywhere the settings I need to enter to get my phone to connect via Vodafone. I've searched this forum but I only get the Vodafone Live fix and I've tried Vodafone but they can't/won't help.
Can anyone help please?
Richard.
(Also asked on MoDaCo.com if you think you've read this recently...)

how to set HTC Tytn ii in Japan to send MMS with Softbank?

Chainbolt,
Yes you need the correct connection settings for the Softbank.
Here's the (complex) complete settings - one for MMS+Phone browser, another for Internet access. Call it MMS Settings and Open Settings, and costs are different. It's a bit difficult to explain (Softbank Japanese plans are one of the most complex rate plans in the world), but I'll try.
You SHOULD use MMS Settings for MMS.
You CAN use MMS Settings for the web, but in this case you have to use the proxy in MMS Settings AND you need to set the browser User Agent to one of the Softbank phones available. See below for the list of User Agents. This proxy allows up to 300KB per page.
http://developers.softbankmobile.co..../useragent.php
While you use MMS Settings, you will be charged 0.2yen/packet. You can apply for the Unlimited Packets (Pake-shi-Hoodai in Japanese) Plan for 4410yen per month.
You CAN use Open Settings for the web, this will allow you to use HTTP, HTTPS, ActiveSync and other protocols freely. This settings can also be used from your PC, meaning unlimited Internet Access. You can use any User Agent - so you can use PIE with this connection.
This Open Settings is said to become unavailable from 4/1, as the password is now known to public and Softbank does not want people to use it from the PC.
The cost for using Open Settings is still unclear, but it will be 1029yen - 10290yen per month. Enjoy!

Thanks for this. However, it still does not work entirely (although it worked a little!)
Here are my problems:
I changed all the settings for MMS usage as shown below. However, it still does not work entirely.
Sending: First, I tried to send a test message, but it just sits in my email "outbox". The "send/receive" button is gray, so I cannot use that. The system periodically tries to connect to the network to send the message (the icons indicate when it is doing so), but it fails, so it ends up just sitting in my "outbox" with a little clock icon on the side.
Receiving: I keep getting error messages on my phone now (presumeably when I receive a message) that just say "Forbidden". I actually received the headers for five (of a total approximately thirty on the Softbank server) messages, too. However, when I try to download the messages, my phone connects to the network but then nothing happens. I do not get additional error messages. Just nothing happens.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
somebody could help me about it? Thanks!
Every time, I get a little bit closer! However, I still have a problem.
Now I can:
- Make phone calls.
- Receive phone calls.
- Send SMS messages.
- Receive SMS messages.
- (NEW) Send MMS messages.
However, I still cannot RECEIVE MMS messages. I get an error that says "Cannot decode MMS notification." Additionally, I am able to download the headers for a few (very old) messages (although not for any new messages on the server). However, I cannot download the content of those messages. Do you know how I can try to fix this?
Additionally, when I try to synchronize, I get an error message that says "Cannot copy 'mm1_wsp_wtp_6.log'. Make sure your mobile device has sufficient memory, that the file si not set as read-only, and that you have permission to copy this file type". The device has plenty of available memory. I do not know how to change the readability or copy-ability settings of the file. Any idea how to fix that?

Yes, it could ! i bought a SIM card and put it in Tytn ii,it works well , but i couldn't get the right way to setting MMS ?
TYTN II in Japan
Does anyone know what technology allows the HTC TYTN II to work in Japan. Mine worked very well on the SoftBank system for close to a year. I brought it back to Canada and used it as a skype only phone and when and tried to reconnect in Japan with the same settings as before I did not have any luck. However that's not my point at this time. (TYTN II for sale)
I'm looking for something simple to ebay purchase in NA and bring back with me to Japan and use my SoftBank sim, or what looks like a sim and goes into the sim slot. Phones are hard to buy in Japan without a new contract, not interested in that and they are also registered in wierd and wonderfull ways, apparently to prevent the crime element from using cell phones. I thought Japan did not use GSM technology which I thought was only used with sim cards.
I know my TYTN II quad band phone used the following.
quad-band GSM phone with GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, and HSUPA.
Quad band GSM / GPRS / EDGE (GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900)
Tri-band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (UMTS 850, UMTS 1900, UMTS 2100)
I know SoftBank uses the following.
SoftBank Mobile currently operates both PDC (Japanese 2G), referred to as "SoftBank 6-2", and W-CDMA (UMTS 3G) networks ("SoftBank 3G"). SoftBank's 3G network is compatible with UMTS and supports transparent global roaming for existing UMTS subscribers from other countries outside Japan. (as per Wikipedia)
The only connection I could see was 3G technology, but I thought that was limited to data use.
If anyone could shed any light on this that would be greatly appreciated.
Regards.

error sending and receiving picture messages

i hard spl'd my phone and now i am unable to send or receive picture messages under mms.....it asks me to download but is unable to download or send after countless tries.....anybody have this problem or know a fix?
Try looking at your other topic.
had similar problem
for me, fix was go to a new mms message, go to the MMS options via the menu, go to servers tab, and take out a "default" server that shouldn't have been there. Setting my t-mobile mms server to default did the trick.
good luck

Disclaimer and additional info: I cannot guarantee that these settings and/or this procedure will work for you. All I know is that this works for me. Also, I cannot guarantee that AT&T will not notice that you are not using an iPhone with your iPhone data plan and change your plan and charge you $$$$$. If you bought your phone from AT&T, then they can use your IMEI number to figure out exactly what kind of phone you are currently using. If you didn't buy your phone from AT&T they can still figure out that your phone isn't bought from AT&T. In fact their system does this automatically to display a picture for your phone when you login to your account online. However, to my knowledge (which isn't that good), their system does not automatically change your data plan. If you call AT&T for help with something, you should have an iPhone to make the call with, otherwise the support people can notice. Use all of the above info at your own risk.
what about this?

aren't these the iphone settings?
Those are not the settings that the iPhone uses. As far as I know, those are the settings that everybody else uses.
