Changing default messaging program - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Is there any way (registry hack or otherwise) to change my default messaging program from POutlook to another executable on my device?

Anybody know?

I don't know how to do this, but flexmail has this option built in into the program itself.
maybe the application you are using has the same option!
cheers

Finger Friendly Friends is a very nice contact manager from jahnotto, which has the function to be set to default contacts app. You can also start poutlook from FFF, so it's still reachable in a quick way.
It is not freeware anymore since version 1.0: $14,99.

EDIT: If you want to use another contacts app set to default maybe you should directly ask jahnotto how he has done it for FFF. I think it's only a registry tweak and I'm sure he would give the information to you.

Save contact "name, surname" insted of "surname, name".

Hi all, when I add a new contact, this option appears by "surname, name" be default. I like to have contacts by "name, surname"; so everytime I add acontact I have to go to this option and change.
Anyone knows how to change this value by default?. I know there is a program for Pocket PC that fix it but i don't know how to manage with a SMP.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I've managed to do adjust it in my Outlook. There is an option when you click on your contact, to just say 'display as .. '. It's there where you can state how to list your contacts if I'm not mistaken.

What if you don't use outlook but Windows Live Mail?
i have also made this work in outlook... not with internal vista email klient... sorry
I use this thread, is there some possibility to have more mobile phones in one contact then only one? Thanks a lot.
up!
No way to change to "name surname" modifying a registry key?
I've heard about this feature in "Xpera Tweak"... I'm investigating!

Change HTC HOME email association?

First off i appoligize if this is a repost; I spent the last hour searching before I had to break down and post. I have HTC HOME today plugin and am using Goodlink as my email server. My want/hope is to get the email icon in the home plugin to route to goodlink instead of standard email box. Is this possible? Goodlink puts a seperate email plug in on the today page so can they be merged? Thank you for any help that can be provided!
THe last email inbox you view is where the home email icon should take you. SHould be a little star beside it, and make sure to uncheck "show accounts chooser" box (somethign like that) in outlook so that you don't have to select that accunt each time.
Thank you for that information. When i can finally talk IT to allow direct exchange sync that should work perfectly. Yet for now I am still stuck with the problem since GoodLink is managed by it's own seperate program and does not integrate into pocket outlook in any way. Is there a way to customize the plugin to associate to a different program all together(goodlink instead of pkt outlook?)

Oh i understand now.
Well, not that I know of.
Someone changed the path of the SMS icon on the home screen, but I don't know how that was done. Through a reg edit somewhere I am sure. It was in the Alex roms thread somewhere.
You will have to look around for that, I am unsure how to do it, even though Id like to know too.
I've been looking for this also. Haven't been able to find it in the registry in the places you'd think to look. I want to force the link to always go to the exchange email instead of possibly MMS or SMS (I mean there's a direct link to SMS why would I want to go there when I click email even if I'd happened to be looking there last).

Installing mobile Gmail on Tilt

Hello! I'm new to this forum. Seeing as how most of my questions have been answered here from Google searches, I decided to join this forum.
I'm trying to install Gmail mobile from (m.google.com/mail) onto my Tilt running WM6.1. I'm not running any fancy ROM. Just the latest ROM found off the HTC website. During the install, I keep getting this error:
gmail.jad?dc=gwm?ver=v1.50.1193 cannot be found at this URL. -1 Please
contact your operator for more information.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you!
requires java since that's a java file.get the midlet manager or other versions of that app
I already have a midlet manager, I think. I've got this installed on my PDA: "Emsertec Jbed Build ID: 20080428.2.1". If that isn't the right one, could you suggest a better one?
Anyone who has run into this problem able to help?
I just downloaded it with PIE.
Sorry, you're talking to a newbie here. What is PIE?
pocket internet explorer
I can download the "gmail.jad" file. But I cannot install it. I get the error included in my first post.
open the java machine and then point it at the .jar file.
I did and that is the error I received during install.
try this. I had the same problem as you and this worked...
Install the JBed3dMod_RU_FIX.zip file Java Midlet Manager from this post.
Then, install the Gmail app to the jbed you just installed.
Thank you, it worked! But I don't see a Gmail icon anywhere. I have to launch the new "JBed3dMod.." app and then from there launch Gmail. Is there a way to launch the Gmail app directly?
And what is this "JBed3dMod.." app?

If you have problems creating the shortcut, the easiers way to do it is on your ppc using total commander. create the text file containing your shortcut parameters and save it as gmail.txt then rename gmail.txt as gmail.lnk and copy the shortcut to windows\start menu\program files
it will then show up in your program files and you can even assign it to a button if you like

That is the new Java app/midlet manager that you installed that allows the Gmail java app to work.

yep.
try putting this code in a .lnk file:
Code:
1#"\Program Files\Jbed3DModTest\JBed.exe", -run s0_
"run s0" is the command for the application number if you have more than one java aplication you will have to find out which number yours is (they should be ordered from top to bottum starting from zero on...)
and although it shouldn't matter to much on this because it isn't a long code 1# should really be 48# that number desribes how many characters are in the action you want to preform
Thank you! I created the shortcut, though the instructions weren't exactly correct for my situations. After fiddling around I got the shortcut working.
I noticed it uses the same icon as the "JBed3dMod.." app. This might be asking for too much, but is there a way I could assign a different icon for my newly created shortcut?
icons...
This is a relatively hard topic to find & understand from this forum. But through a bit of patience, it can be done.
Here you can read how to change icons for folders:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=339405&highlight=icons
For icons for individual files, like the Gmail .lnk file I sort of learned by myself (read ^ that thread first):
Select an icon from your .dll
Select a setting or program to link to
Then, simply create a .lnk file that is structured like this example [ex. for Gmail]:
Code:
1#"\Program Files\Jbed3DModTest\JBed.exe", -run s0_,17?\Windows\custicons.dll,-186
again, it takes some practice + patience.
Why not just use the built-in e-mail client?
Why even bother with the java applet?
I just use the Pocket Outlook (or whatever the default messaging / SMS / e-mail app is) and set it up for IMAP with GMail's servers:
Username: [email protected]
Password: your password
Incoming server: imap.gmail.com
Outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com
Outgoing server requires authentication: Yep
Require SSL for Incoming e-mail: Yarr
Require SSL for Outgoing e-mail: Aye
Account Type: IMAP4
Use the default settings for all the other options, if you wish..
Then, if you want to do the GMail "Archive" action:
..move the message to the "All Mail" folder
If you want to do the GMail "Report Spam" action:
..move the message to the "Spam" folder
No fun GChat stuff here, but otherwise gets the basic job done.. No download or JVM needed
Hope this helps someone! Also, this could apply to any E-mail client (as long as it supports IMAP4) and not just M$PO.

Thanks for the information on the icons. I guess that's too much trouble for me right now. Was hoping there would be an easy way. I guess I'm just lazy .
I was using the built in email client first with the IMAP4 settings. But the two main reasons I prefer to use the Gmail client is because I can view everything by conversation and I can easily see my starred messages.

"File As" issue with contacts

So I have been putting up with manually changing my new contacts from Lastname,Firstname to Firstname,Lastname for over a year and a half now. I have searched all throughout here, google, and ppc with no progress.
Any one have any cabs, reg hacks, anything at all that can default all new contacts to File as Firstname,Lastname?
Please. lol
i dont know if there cabs/reg hacks that can do it as your saving the contact or to automatically have the option by default but i do know that there are additional software that scan your contacts and then change the contacts to first name last name. Here are two of them that i know. One is called contact changer v1.3 (free) just google that and then there is one on the forums here called trinefix
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=468767
idk how well either of them work. I mean i tried them both and i think contact changer worked a little better then trinefix but they both left a few of them still last name first name because when i created the contact i did not create them properly i think
That trinefix works well, except I already have all my contacts sorted properly, by doing it manually. I was hopin for a reg trick to change the default.
But thanks for your input, appreciated.

Change default e-mail

I searched on the website but can't find it how to change the default e-mail programm on my x1. I want to change it in profimail instead of the default outlook.
What do I have to change in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE settings to get it. I know I have to put the exact path somewhere, but I can't figure out where exactly.
Any help would be great.
Cheers,
Arnold
I don't know if it's possible (I also use Profimail).
However I know that FlexMail can be set as default email system.
