Hi all,
I have been using a GSM pre-paid card on my Tytn II for over a month without problem. However, yesterday I have been to some places without reception, and I have put my mobile into flight mode. Also, I have been using the GPS in a car (charging as well).
Now I turn off flight mode, I cannot able to register to the network anymore!! If i set to to use "GSM only", I cannot even get anything back from the network!
I am wondering if the GMS modem is dead.... anyway to test the GSM connection in Kaiser? (I don't have a 3G sim to test at the moment, will try to grab one from friends and test to see if 3G connection do work...)
*Updated:
I have just tried to run the FieldTest Application for Tytn on my Tytn II (can someone tells me if the value there should be valid or not?). In the GSM page, the RSSI value is between 16 and 29, is this not acceptable? Maybe something gone wrong in the antenna? Can someone try the fieldtest app and tell me what is your RSSI value? Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=274269
anyone here able to me?
anyway, my current ROM version:
ROM version: 1.81.710.1 WWE
Radio: 1.27.12.11
Protocol: 22.45.88.07H
I've not checked for the TyTN, but RSSI value reported by various GSM modules I've worked with is multiples of 2dB above a baseline of -113dBm...
so an RSSI of 16 is (2 x 16) -113 = -81dBm. Anything which is stable above -100dBm should be fine. So that suggests your radio is fine...
On the other hand my TyTN2 is reporting RSSI of 34 (modules I've used only measure up to 31) so that may not be true for TyTN2. I do have a *very* strong signal here though - the base station is a few hundred meters away and the antenna is level with my window.
Check that your network selection is set to 'automatic', network type to GSM and Band selection to 'Auto'.
If that doesn't work set change network selection to 'Manual' and see if it lists any networks found when it scans.

My RSSI value varies between about 23 to 28 but I don't understand enough to know what that means (and have no time to read the link at the moment). If its a HTC Branded TyTN (I don't know what that ROM value means) what happens when you run Connection Setup in the Settings, Connections tab? That should automate things for you.
Yes, already set to Auto.
Tested Sim cards in Australia: Telstra (2G), Vodafone, Optus, 3.... all failed.
However, using a CSL pre-paid from HK, able to connect to Telstra HSPDA network....
Also from the FieldTest App, in GSM page, RSSI 1 value stay at 255dbm, not sure if it is ok
If you do a network search, does it not list any 2g networks at all (with either SIM or USIM installed)?
You said before your rssi was 16-29, now it's 255? What changed?

From the FieldTest app, under the GSM page, there is a RSSI value. For my Tytn II, it is currently stay at around 26 now.... but I found another RSSI 1 value at the bottom of the page, which stay at 255dbm. Since this app is for Tytn, not sure if the values are valid for Tytn II.
Currently I have no idea why the only SIM card that works is the HK CSL SIM, which roam to Telstra HSDPA network (if i disable HSDPA, it does connect to 3G), but all my other GSM SIM does not work (even the one from 3, which suppose to connect 3G does not work).
I have no idea whether it is software or hardware issue at the moment, I have done hard reset, tried a few ROMs already.... still the same result...
Ok.... looks like my mobile is working again.
looks like the RSSI 1 value is only valid if it managed to connect to a GSM network.
There's no Auto option in Connection Setup

If this is in response to my suggestion to use the Connection Setup function, that doesn't have an auto option - it's even easier! It's in Settings => Connections tab and simply asks you what country you're in and then lets you choose the operator, then it configures things for you. If you don't have an HTC branded TyTN II (or suitably modified other setup) you may not have this little gem though.

I have just got the HTC Mteor but I can't get it to work with GPRS on orange PAYG or Contract. I saw some files on this forum but it won't let me run them on the phone. Can anyone help me set it up please?
sorry to havent answerd your question in other thread...
when this from my post don't works:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1244877&postcount=8
just google for the correct settings from your provider!!
or just call them that they say you the settings!!
also my provider has a map on his webpage where i can check what coverage is available in my location!!
also when you see the 3g symbol in top bar you are in a 3g location!
maybe you must have a special contract with your provider to start connections in 3g area?!
just try to set bandwidch to GSM (means only GPRS/EDGE) and test the connection!!
if this works your provider maybe have lock if you haven't a special "3g Contract"
I tried to contact Orange but they didn't have this phone on their list and then they gave me some settings that didn't work?
I don't think this phone works on 3G actually. I know it has GPRS covergae because there is always a letter "G" on the top of the screen. If anyone else has this phone on Orange then can you let me know what setting you are using please.
when your provider supports 3g then your phone have no problems!!!
UMTS is supported by mteor from factory out!!
HSDPA Supports is added with actuell Shipped ROM !!!
when you only have the G icon it means you have only configured (in bandwitch selection gsm) or your network coverage has only GPRS available!!
just check the settings under settings/phone/bandwitch(?!)
there are 2 lines first band: 1. AUto 2. GSM 3. WCDMA (=3g, hsdpa)
2nd is the region... should normaly be on auto...
I just checked the setting that you mentioned and it was set to auto on both options. I tried setting to the 3G and it said that it was not possible to connect when I typed in an internet address on internet explorer.
maybe you have not 3g coverage at your location!! or your contract didn allow 3g connection!! ask your provider!!
when configuring the data connection look to the modem options there you can select different modems .. just try gprs only

And My TyTN II dont resume from standby mode. 2 times...
Oh-h-h Only soft-reset can help.
Help me please!
PS
Sorry or my english.
Mine is suffering from SoD as well.
I got an HTC TyTNII. ROM 1.81.415.4wwe, ROM Date 10/29/2007, Radio 1.27.15.32, Protocol 22.51.88.13H.
Any cures out there?
I'm curious... did this just start happening, or did either of you recently flash?
I'm having the same issue, except I can recreate it consistently.
seems to be happening when I'm indoors... outdoors it's fine.
My guess is radio issue.
I had this problem on my Tytn II when I first got it and also on my new Touch Diamond 2. On my Tytn II the first week I was running with 3G enabled and had the owner ident screen turned on at power on.
I disabled both of these and never had the problem again, on my Diamond 2 I've had 3G enabled but not the owner ident screen so I guess it must be something to do with that... try setting the band to GSM only thus disabling 3G get much better battery life too.
This is old.....
Well, try to set the USB connexion to 'advance' in the settings. If you have Windows Mobile 6.0, upgrade to 6.1....
romualdrichard,
By "Old" do you mean that this has been resolved already?
I've checked the other threads and setting USB to advanced has not cleared it up for other users.
the "setting USB to advanced" has not worked for anyone on these threads (they usually come back and post "it happened again" or something)
my tilt is now sitting in a cupboard...and I'm back to my trusty 8525.
sigh...what a waste of money the tilt ended up being.
Solution? Maybe, who knows
I own a TyTN II since Sept 2008. WM6 Pro.

I have always had BB Connect 100 version installed and working. Other third party SW I have are insignificant utilities.
I've had 2 episodes of SOD, first about 7 months ago lasting for a couple of weeks. Don't know what I did but it simply went away after re installing BBConnect.
Second started a couple of weeks ago and drove me nuts, 5,6,7 times a day..
I tried everything mentions on every web page I could find. No luck.
Then yesterday I downloaded a clean up utility, used it once and have been on since.
try it: pmClean. Can't do any harm.
If I have a repeat episode of SOD, I'll report.
EDIT: Been 60 hours and counting. Only one SOD (vs. 5-6 per day before) and that only after I messed around with some proxy settings in a Java SSH client I tried to have running over the BB connection. Come to think of it, last time my SOD started after I seriously messed with my connections settings when arriving in Europe and not being able to get BB connection. Hmmmm.
I can say for certain that having 3G & GSM enabled (with little 3G symbol along top of screen some of the time) causes SOD.
The solution is to set band to GSM + AUTO only (Edge/GPRS) so you have an E or G symbol along top of screen.
I had the SOD on a new Touch Diamond 2 as well as on my old Tytn II and it wasn't until I set the band to GSM only that the SOD stopped happening.
I think that some people don't have the problem on their network or the areas they use the phone but others are not so lucky. Disabling 3G also increases battery life.
EDIT: Instead of enabling GSM only it may also be a good idea to try and enable 3G only by setting WCDMA + UTMS 2100 thereby disabling 2G (GSM), if the problem has something to do with when the phone switches between 3G and 2G this might also solve the problem. Its worth a try and if with 3G only enabled you still get the SOD then switch to GSM only and leave it.
Why not try another radio?

You could try it but its not likely to solve the problem seeing as its mainly a network problem, you'd be better off changing provider if changing the default band settings as above is too much for you.
FWIW I have now changed my band settings to 3G only (WCDMA + UTMS 2100) and I don't seem to have the SOD problem either, so you don't have to get rid of 3G totally, just change the band setting from auto 3G/2G to either 3G or 2G depending on what you really need, just don't leave it on auto unless you find a provider which that setting works with (ie no SODs)
EDIT: Also read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540943&highlight=standby&page=2 where the resolution was to get a new SIM.
Obviously everything I've written in this thread so far applies to those who have the Standby of Death because of the SIM or settings which impact the SIM, to rule out a software cause its best to start with a hard reset.
I am not sure if this the right place for this discussion but I've got a problem and need help. My ATT Tilt works fine in my home service area (3G Network) with 4 bars consistently and drops the connection as soon as I leave it. I've Tweak the setting, stripped the software off except for the basics, hard set the phone, and nothing works. ATT replaced the phone twice but didn't solve the problem. I leave my area and No Service. I travel a lot so this is a major problem. Is there a solution?
WM6.1
ROM Version 3.57.502.2 WWE
Radio 1.65.21.18
hmm not sure if it helps..
I read somewhere that if U turn of 3G and use normal GSM, it might help...
maybe other areas do not have 3G network and only normal GSM networks?
Thanks...I installed "Enable Band Page (Tilt Rom).CAB" and changed the GSM/UMT Band settings. Now the phone works out of area.
and how did you come across that cab file?
I have a HTC Touch Diamond P3700 which I think was sourced from Hong Kong. I use it on the Hutchinson 3 network in Australia and am unable to get Roaming (on Telstra network) going. I am currently on hoidays in Noosa and there is no Three coverage here and the phone will not switch to Roaming. I had installed the Hutchinson 3 official Rom (I was able to get this on the phone by first flashing Olinex Hard SPL).
Current Installed Firmware...
ROM Version = 1.93.861.4 WWE
ROM Date = 11/21/08
Radio Version = 1.09.25.23
Protocol Version = 52.51.25.26W
Model = HTC Touch Diamond P3700
The above ROM is Hutchinson 3 Aus with a different Radio version. I have also tried to Roam with the stock Hutchinson ROM.
With the above setup, the only Network Type I can select are WCDMA or Auto. GSM/UMTS band options are UMTS (900+2100) + GSM (900+1800) and Auto. I have installed advanced Comm Manager which enables me to turn off 3G in the hope that the phone would Roam on Telstra GSM. When I do this the Network Type selection is blank.
I have also flashed Duttys 5.2.20764.1.4.3_V4_Full_MSVC [2.03] and was able to view a full range of UMTS and GSM bands and had WCDMA, Auto and GSM as an option in Network Type.
I have also tried the following Radios:
1.00.25.05
1.13.25.24
1.11.25.1
1.09.25.23
1.00.25.06
1.12.25.16 (couldn't get this one to work)
I am not scared to try flashing different items, but am really lost as to why I can't get Roaming (on Telstra network). I suspect the version of my Diamond does not have the necessary hardware to use the required Band.
Can anyone give me a tip as I am now lost and Hutchinson won't help me as I didn't buy the phone through them. Even being a customer (2 phones) for 3 years + doesn't not count (might be time for a new provider).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Paul
I am with Three also, they really suck, dont they?
Have you tried changing the radio to 1.08.25.20? thats the best I have found for use with 3. This should enable the GSM option under network connections. Actually I specifically remember that the GSM option (or antoher) was different for me on your type of radio...
let me know how you go.
I am with Three using an imported Diamond, radion 1.09.25.23 but the official one for Three Australia also worked fine to me. I roam onto Telstra a lot cos not in a good coverage area.
Have roamed across europe and no problems. Is it the data connection or the voice that you need? If the data connection is the problem then maybe download a new connection setup cab and try to update that. Sorry, not much use I know!
Still no luck
Bigruss
Voice is the thing I am after. Still no luck. I have gone back to Duttys 5.2.20764.1.4.3_V4_Full_MSVC ROM and Radio 1.08.25.20 which enables GSM to be selected. Under SETTING|PHONE|NETWORK I have pressed the 'Find Network' button but the phone cannot find any networks yet my wife's iPhone is able to pick up Roaming (Telstra), Yes Optus and Vodafone AU. I find it strange that my Touch Diamond can't locate any networks. I'll keep hunting the fault but it is very frustrating. Thanks for the help. Cheers, Paul

Paul,
Try going to Setting>Phone>Band tab and select 'GSM', then 'Auto' or the apprpriate band for roaming.
Thanks dieselpower89
I have tried all that. Also changed the ROM 5 or 6 times. Radios that and a few more. It is as if the phone will only recognize the Three network and nothing else. It will not pick up any other networks. Very strange.
why u dont give a try to upgrade to the official one(2.03.707.2)?
maybe it wil help u
Albert_betet
2.03.707.2 is not available for Australian networks. I tried to download from htc.com but it rejected my serial number as not compatiable. I have tried the latest Hutchinson ROM which is still current on the htc.com website (Australian) and whilst it works on my phone, the roaming doesn't activate.
might be a sim card prob. im on 3 with a diamond from overseas as well. before i kept losing receptino and it would reconnect when i powered up the screen. and also it would say no reception but i could go on 3 internet and stuff. Just go to the 3 store and they will give u a brand new sim card for free then callup customer care and tel them to transfer your service onto your new sim card. only took like 3 minutes in total.. and the call centre is 24hrs
Thanks JexL,
You're a champ!! My wife's sim card has been roaming in her iPhone so I put her card in my phone and didn't find a network at first. I went to SETTINGS |PHONE and then Network tab and there was another option for either Auto or Manual select a network. I selected manual which then found the 3 available networks here in Noosa. I chose Telstra and then Roaming became available. I turned off the phone and swapped back my card. Turned phone on and Roaming was found immediately. Funnily enough I don't have the auto/manual network selection option. But the phone works so that is the main thing.
Thanks again to all that helped.
The radio is so erratic. Sometimes it is great. Othertimes it just can't get a connection. I haven't got my email all morning ... its realy annoying me!
typical issues- radio looses connection overnight - so I need to restart and its restored.
Going through a train tunnel the radio reception goes, but is then not connected the other side. Most of the times it works, but sometimes it just looses it!
I hope HTC get their finger out and release a new radio rom sharpish. Its really stopping me enjoying this otherwise brilliant device!

Just saw Asia ROM update for Diamond 2 on Singapore site with Radio version: 3.44.25.27
I find the same. Most of the time the radio will reconnect fine, but just occasionally it'll sit there helplessly for a long time showing no network.
I did find under phone settings to only connect to my network rather than "automatic" speeds up the transition between 3G and GPRS and vice versa - it's now almost instantaneous, before it could take a minute or so. You probably already have it set like that?

no i don't, but I will try. thanks for the tip
also worth zeroing on the bands in your country. I have set up gsm 900+1800 and umts 900+2100
when we get hacked ROM I will just do gsm 900+1800 and umts 2100 which is correct for the UK
Its probably worth doing the above in any case, as it won't be seeking so much and therefore saving battery

Complain to HTC
I complained to HTC earlier today about the reception. If enough people do it, they'll have to do something!!
This is what I received from HTC about the Radio. - Indifference!!!!!
Thanks for your email. I cannot comment on if we have had any more comtact regarding poor reception, as yours is only the second email i have seen from anyone saying they have a problem with reception. As you can imagine, 2 occurences does not constitue a known issue. However, If you could provide us with the IMEI or Serial number of your device and also the ROM and Radio version from settings> all settings> system> device information, we will be monitoring just in case we receive more emails. In the mean time, i think the best course of action would be to contact the retailer and ask for a replacement for what sounds like a faulty device. best regards, HTC Europe Support
I've put the network selection back on "auto" after a particularly bad case of the phone searching for and not finding my network despite being in a strong signal area with the network selection set to manual. It came up with the "select a network" box and wouldn't seemingly carry on without my intervention. Which is useless if the phone's in your pocket. The moment I changed the setting back to "automatic" it searched for and found my network.
I only had this problem after I forgot and left the data channel connection on. Usually I switch it off after using it. So perhaps this network loss / searching bug is related to leaving the data channel open? No consolation for those who need to do this.
I have now set the phone to use only the UK bands, and will see how this goes.
It really seems we are up against a) a weak radio module b) big bugs in the radio firmware.
