I have had my MDA Vario III for a few months now and overall I'm very happy with it. But there is one thing that keeps me puzzled.
The BT name or Device ID keeps changing whenever I connect it to a PC or BT carkit. Currently the name is "HTC90" but I just connected it to my XP laptop and now it's looks to take the "WM_..." name again.
Is there a way to resolve this issue?
Would love an answer to this. I get so embarrassed in the pub when I have some garbled phone name and every else has something cool like "Hot_Guy" or "Big Boy"
Hi,same thing on my prophet, trinity and now my kaiser : the solution : open the key HKCU\Software\microsoft\bluetooth\Settings and change the LocalName manually. It works for me.
thanks was looking for the way to do this on my orbit
I had updated the ID through the settings menu. When I looked in the registry the same (correct name) was there. If it changes again I go to the registry directly and hopefully that will help!
Hi I have found changing the Device Name changes the bluetooth name
Goto settings->system->About->device ID->Device Name
device name is not the same as the bluetooth name as far as I know.
I made the registry change but next time I looked it had reverted to previous for some reason

Hi,
I have a TyTN ll on Orange(UK) and thanks to these forums all the orange rubbish has now gone!!
I have one issue in that the Device Name keeps changing to WINDOWSMOBILE## even though i keep setting it to a custom name.
Has anyone else had this problem or know how to resolve it?
Thanks in advance
Same Issue on one of my Tilts
Did you ever get an answer?
Thanks!

ActiveSync on PC used to do that to my Kaiser, but since I removed all devices in PC ActiveSync and set the name in Kaiser, it works OK now after connecting.
No i never got an answer. I left the device name to what ever it comes up with. I put the issue down to Syncing with 2 PC's
Have the same problem. To solve it, ensure you don't use underscore "_" on the device name. It works perfectly with mine.
Hello Experts,
I've just got one question:
How do you customise the Bluetooth Device name on the T-Mobile MDA Vario III?? I've searched everywhere on the phone and theres no where you can set it. I've searched all forums to see if anyone else has raised the same issue. So I'm guessing the problem is only on the MDA Vario III??? Maybe T-Mobile screwed something up??
I have tried to changed the Ident on the phone using a Registry Editor but this screws up the ActiveSync settings on the PC. This was not an issue on Windows Mobile 5.
The phones great otherwise. I'm sure they'll get resolved on WM6.1 (I hope).

Hi dude
go here and get the Schap's Advanced configuration tools, the latest version "Schaps_AdvancedConfig_v2.0.2.0.CAB", install it and in the main window you'll find a "Bluetooth device name" setting where you can customize it, -> "done" -> softreset !!!
Let me know
Ciao
Thanks Dom..
I thought everything I needed was in the KaiserTweak app. I'll give Schapps a try..
Thanks once again
Can anyone help me with this problem i just bought kaiser yesterday but i notice that i cant be able to receive any file transfer from a bluetooth connection.
However i can be able to beam file through bluetooth connection to another phone.
Can anyone help to solve this problem please?
thanks
Please be more specific, in order to get answers to your question. How your problems shows? Could it be just that other devices can not see your Kaiser, if so, then you have to tick checkbox "Make this device visible to other devices" on bluetooth settings.

Mika
As per the last post, your device has to be set to 'Visible' in BT settings and if you want your device 'Open' to receive all beams the uncheck the box in BT settings under 'Security'
There is another setting to check.
Under Start\Settings\Connections there is an icon labelled "Beam". Click this and make sure the box labelled "Allow incoming beams" is ticked. (Not sure about the exact wording but it is the only checkbox on the screen.)
And whilst we're on the subject of ticking boxes....
I'm pretty sure the two boxes under the FTP tab in the bluetooth setting need to be ticked aswell...Could there BE anymore boxes to tick for 1 simple operation?!
Similar Issues
I am having similar issues, but a bit more severe. Kaiser wont see my laptop that has a USB bluetooth dongle. It can see my bluetooth headset just fine. But it refuses to see my desktop and my desktop refuses to see it. Any suggestions

This sounds like a problem with your laptop/dongle, if your kaiser is able to see other things...
What rom are you using? I was using alex's rom for a while but he some how removed the ftp tab in the bluetooth settings and I was never able to receive any files. I switched over to sleuth's rom and it fixed all my problems.

It's the same in Dutty's new ROM. The FTP tab is gone, and now I (and a few other people) can't send/receive via bluetooth.
Technical intervention is required here ...
I'm facing the exact same problem with my TyTn 2, but here are some spacifics that require an expert's opinion...
1. The device sends perfectly...
2. When it comes to recieving, here's the low-down:
-I tried sending a pairing req. from my computer (through my BT dongle) & the phone received the req.
-After the pair, the computer sent & the device received (no problem until now)...
-I tried sending another file (from my Nokia 6300) & there was no response from my phone...
-I tried sending from a Nokia 6260, the phone received without even the need to pair!!!
What I want to know is the technical reason for this to happen???
P.S.
Here are the options set on my device:
-Receive all incoming beams (Checked)
-Turn on BT (Checked)
-Make this device visible to other devices (Checked)
-Authentication (Passkey) required (Unchecked)
I think it would be a whole lot easier if you just packed your phone up and sent it to me. I would uh, take care of it for you.
Bluetooth beam fixed
You have to fix bluettooth with this cab

Thanks alot k101d for the quick response, but as I'm quite skeptical when it comes to messing around with my phone's internal configuration or registry files & so on, I would like to know the source from which you got the .CAB file, & what it exactly does (on the inside of course)...
Many thanks again, dude...
Oh, thanks a lot k101d.
Till today I was so dissapointed with this BT of mine (it costs about 100 €).
It worked !!!
Yo costas2by4AIO,
sorry if I'm gonna be bothering you, but bare with me & my desperate questions...
What exactly were you suffering (concerning BT) from before applying the .CAB file, & what was the result that satisfied you?
Hi Guys,
Need Help......
I am not able to beam more than one file altogether with my HTC tytn II
Please help me to figure out, How can I beam files altogether to other Bluetooth device instead of one by one.
Thanks,

Or any way to fix my bluetooth problem.
I can not send or receive file with another PPC or even my computer.........
Please someone help
I do have the same problem. I can't send or receive files (contacts, video, photo, music, ringtones) from other phones.
Already tried HTC patchs, but no solution at all.
Tried to download that file, but the link is not availlable. Can someone post the file again or have another solution ?
Just to be clear, I'm not talking about the caller id name, I know there's another thread on that.
When I got my 8010 back in October I paired it, and my name showed up on the display. I assumed this came from the "owner information" I entered on the Athena since that was the only place I had typed my name in.
Earlier this week I finally got around to upgrading the radio (to 1.57) and in the process I reinstalled the factory ROM. When I paired the 8010, this time it showed "HTC_Advantage" as the display name. Odd, since I had put my own name in the "owner information", like before. I searched some registry keys related to bluetooth and don't see where this is coming from.
I tried pairing it again, and now the display name is completely blank.
So, here's the question: where does the display name come from so I can put it back the way I want it?
You're absolutely right about the origin of the pairing name,it
is derived from the owner info page.
I read on another of your posts that you recently reflashed
your Advantage and I did a hard reset after which the pairing
also read HTC_Advantage I had to reset the info but then it
still read HTC_Advantage until soft reset now it reads info name.
Still no-go for me. I verified my name in the owner information panel, deleted the pairing on the Athena and on the 8010, soft-resetted, re-paired, soft-resetted again and still I get a blank display name...
Try actually deleting the pairing from your phone. That's what works for me on my Titan when I want to change the display, but YMMV. You can also try flashing to a newer firmware on your 8010. When I updated to new firmware on my phone the amount of characters from the owner info line that would display dropped. That display thing is just to look cool anyway

Tried that, on both units. I may try to upgrade the 8010 this weekend to see if that helps. I think its still on verion 1.36 so there must be something newer now.

In my experience, the display on my bluetooth carstereo will show the device name (settings/system/about/id) unless I set owner information, then it will show the owner information
hope that helps

I have something set in settings/system/about/id, but of course even that was not showing on the Jabra display. But I did notice the description (just below the device ID) was blank. So I added my name there, deleted the pairing on both devices, and re-paired.
And my name was back on the display. So it seems to be pulling the name from the device ID > description! Can anyone else confirm that the description shows up on their device?
Seems a bit odd this. Have a HTC Tytn II and am very pleased (just trying to determine if I actually NEED the various software I'm trialling such as Mobile Shell or whether it's just NICE to have!!). Only one issue that's not a big deal but I cannot fathom how it's happening.
I flashed the device with the new HTC WM 6.1 ROM and before connecting or doing anything I gave the device a name under About/Device ID. Now, when I switch on bluetooth and make discoverable to connect to the laptop for bluetooth syncs the laptop sees the device fine but actually recognises it as my name and not the device name which I gave the TyTn. Like I say, no big deal but I can't fathom how to get the correct device name to come up. Is it something on the device or the PC. Main concern is that if I want to connect with other people's devices and tell them the device name I have entered, it may not show up. Odd???
this is just a case of your PC "remembering" the BT MAC address of your phone and associating it with the old name.
You can normally clear out your PC of old BT names no longer needed.
On PC - go to START> Control Panel> Bluetooth > Devices
Just click on device name and select "remove".
When you re-pair it should see the new name.
Hope this helps you.
That's great, thanks. I'm about TyTn'd out now having spent the best part of a week doing nothing else but learning it, flashing it, installing apps and inputting data. Yesterday was a particular marathon!!! I'll have a look at this tomorrow.
