Got A-Data 4gb card yesterday and it worked initially until it started to look strange when I was transferring big files unto it. Seems like I couldn't end the transfer and on it appeared a catalog named xxxxxxx.xxx. I disconneced tilt during this transfer and neither tilt no Dell 1420 with SDHC reader can see this card anymore. Nothing happens at all when I plug it in. I hoped that reformatting will work but Dell doesn't see card even in disk management tools (Vista). Regular size SDHC card is read by dell just fine.
Card hardware failure or filesystem problem? Thanks!
I have experienced this issue as well with both a 2GB and an 8 GB card. I have noticed the corruption mostly happens when I take the cards out to transfer big files using a USB reader. Do not touch the surfaces of the cards, handle them by the edges to minimize the risk of losing your data.
Thanks, I will remember that but if card is not seen as a drive by PC can I still return it to workable state?
You will likely have to format it with FAT32. Obviously your data will then be toast (but in all fairness it probably already is). If you can't format it then you need to google for memory card data rescue utilities. If none of these suggestions pan out, I would start the warranty procedures with the manufacturer to get it replaced.
Hope this helps!

Everytime i insert my card it asks me if i want to format it to make it readable? - even though i formatted it in my computer. Also i cant write anything to it when my 8125 recognizes it in a slot. The cars is SanDisk so it should be a good quality.
I'm using a 2GB SanDisk card with no trouble at all. I _didn't_ format it on my PC but rather used it straight out of the box.
Do you still have the same message if you let the 8125 format the card?
i tried doing that and it says that the phone cannot recognize the card.... the weird thing is that the card goes in crooked and the fit isnt perfect i have to push it in hard.....
Quite a few people reporting a problem like this - seems to be fixed with sktools or storage tools (google them demos allow you to format - install on device) and format card on device to fat16.

I have the same problem before, i tried to format it to fat16 and the 2gb minisd was recognized as 1gb instead of 2, tried every solution from getting compatible version of a card reader to re-format using fdisk via DOS., Called the manufacturer and they we're happy to replace it. They advised that it should be re-formatted as fat only and not fat16 via DOS using the card reader.
good to know as i just bought a 2gigger.
The problem is that you formatted it on your PC. USe SKtools to format it on your device and you should be all set. I think the demo version of SKtools allows you to do this stuff.
i use my 2 GIG since i bought the phone almost 4 months ago without any hassle.
Just used the card out of the box without formatting it.
This issue is reported several times and is caused by using a not compatible cardreader on the PC to format the card.
A lot of the (even usb 2.0!!) cardreaders is not capable of reading over 512MB memory cards. If you use a 1Gb or 2GB card on such a reader it will probably say the card is not formatted. WHEN you do format the card using that reader, you wil make it unusable.
 Make sure you format the card via a compatible cardreader to avoid this.
 If you get a 'card not formatted' message, try to read from / write to it in your device first (before attempting to format)
Just got my 2GB card....MDA won't read it.
Camera won't read it.
PC can read it. It was Fat32, I reformatted it to Fat...still a no go in the phone or camera, but works on the PC....what gives?

I have a SanDisk 2Gig card. It worked fine right out of the package. Haven't had any problems with any of the ROMs I've run on my 8125.

my 2GB card works fine, except for the fact that it's stuck in there.. i need to tak it apart and fix the spring loaded latch somewhere in there..
I got a 2GB from Amazon: OEM 2GB MINISD Mini Secure Digital (SD) Card but it did not work on my Cing 8125.
TopRam
I have been using a 2GB miniSD made by TopRam. Works in the 8125 and with my USB card reader no problem since day one. 8125 recognizes the entire 2 gigs (well minus just a few bits...about 99% of the card). Got it off eBay while I was waiting for the phone in the mail. Never needed formatting or anything..worked straight from the package. I was a little worried at first that it wasn't one of the "well known" brands of cards, but there have been no problems whatsoever.
I'm using the Transcend 2Gb 80x MiniSD. Works like a charm.
Keep in mind that SLC flash chips (mainly made by Samsung and a.o. used by Transcend and Mobymemory) have longer lifetime, are faster and consume less power than MLC flash chips. Disadvantage is that SLC is more expensive. Bought my 2GB for approx 62 euros.
All the music files on my card have been corrupted. I tried to use StorageTools to repair it but it keeps stalling. I'd rather not have to reformat it because it would take forever to load all the songs again with the USB 1 connection.
I have had luck with Pocket Mechanic Professional. It can recover bad sectors. Also, SK Tools supposedly also can scan & recover. Otherwise you can do a Google search for SD Card recovery tools & if you have a card reader you can do it through the PC.
If this is something that keeps happening though, a format is your best bet.
Don't have an SDHC compatible reader but I just ordered one. Just hope it works in XP.
It happened to me few days ago. I am also using SDHC @ 4GB. I am using it as a storage card (through SoftickCard Export II). with this software I do not need to pull out my SD card which is a very tedious to do. Also because I do not have the compatible card reader for SDHC.
To recovery corrupted file, I bought this software called Data Doctor Recovery for Removable Media. It is a fantastic tool which can help you to recover deleted or corrupted file on your thumb drive, storage card (anything removable).
Why not give a try to both software...
I already formatted it. Tried pocket mechanic took me an hour and didn't fix it. Waiting for card reader to come so I can reload it faster. I'm just wondering what caused it and afraid it might happen again.
Sorry, guess I should've mentioned that depending on the size of the card & the amount of data that PMP can take a few hours to recover sd cards.
It worked for me, but I did it as I slept & it took about 4 hours.
Hi, I purchased the Transcend 8GB Micro SDHC TS8GUSDHC6 about 3-5 Mo ago, for my AT&T tilt/8925, The issue I am having is that after about 1.9Gb, has been written to it, the transfer will either fail, or it will just sit and the completion will raise indefinitely. I do not have a SDHC compatible reader for my Pc, nor do I have another card over 2Gb. I was wondering if the phone cannot address over 2Gb, or if there may be something wrong with the card?
Hy
maybe i ma wrong, but i think you must format the card in "FAT 32". if you formated the card in "FAT" you can't get it over 2 GB... i don't it for sure

If you are attempting the transfer using Activesync:
You are very patient
Activesync is incredibly slow for large file transfers
Activesync has a bug where it appears file transfers are starting again continuously even though they do go through (eventually).
If you don't have a compatible card reader and have not partitioned the card, it should have already come with a Fat32 partition so DrWinstons concerns shouldn't be an issue. If you've put it in another (old) device to wipe it though, this may well be what's happened. Where has the card been?
The card was bought for this phone, and has only been in it. as far as active sync, it will write 1.5gb in about 35-40 min, then if I try to add another 1.5gb file, it will say 35min and count down for a few minutes, then suddenly the transfer bar, seems to stop and the timer goes up to over 2Days, and will continue to raise, I have left it for 10Hours one night and it made it no further.
Update, I am formatting with pocket mechanic now, Fat 32 4k cluster Low level, Backup Fat
Update2 Well format failed, now the card cannot be read by the OS, I am going to RMA the card. Guess that will fix it
1. I have encountered the same problem and rectified with an SD reader. My SD reader works for SDHC 8GB card. So perhaps if you can find an SD card reader, try it.
2. As for formatting with pocket mechanic, it doesn't seem to work for me as well. What I did was to use error correction in Win XP using the SD card reader. This worked for me.
3. You could also try downloading some usb host software bypassing ActiveSync totally and use your 8GB card like a regular flash/thumb drive which should dramatically improve your file transfer time.
This may just be a case of me being genuinely unlucky in my purchases but humour me anyway!
Like you lot I have an SGS and with all the recent mods regarding sound I like to use it as my mp3 player, so buying a micro sd card for additional storage was a must.
I had a spare 4gb class 2 card lying around so I've been using that for some months. Finally decided to upgrade to a more meaningful 16gb class 4 card.
Ordered one off Amazon through a seller. As soon as I put the card in the phone, it refused to recognise it but my PC, digital camera, old blackberry 9000 and n95 saw it just fine. So I formatted the card in the pc using the downloadable SD Card formatter as some googling suggested this might return the card to a working state. After that the phone saw a 16gb card, so I copied some music onto it, it worked for about 30 mins and then the card died totally. Upon reinserting it into the pc, windows only saw an 8mb card in RAW format and nothing I've done since has recovered the card. Card was dead.
Anyway I contacted the seller who posted me a nice shiny Kingson 16gb class 6 card right away.
New card arrived last night, appeared in the phone straight away as a 16gb card. Great start.
Plugged the phone in, started copying some music on it - the write speed was incredibly slow. I mean really slow, 100mb of mp3s was taking the best part of 3 minutes. Popped the card in the PC, same problem.
I find that I can actually write data to the card till its full (albeit slowly) but once you've written more than around 4gb of data, the files start to vanish.
I know it sounds incredibly stupid but anything written after around the 4gb mark just doesn't appear when I plug it into the phone or the PC. The card claims it is full, but only 4gb of data is visible, let alone accessible. I've done the usual formatting of the card and changing card readers etc etc but the result is the same and this is starting to grow boring.
So, question. Am I just incredibly unlucky in my purchases or is my SGS killing cards? Because I'm quite weary of buying yet another card now.
Funny enough my old 4gb card still works just fine like it has for years.
I know you'll have a FAT (file allocation table) that usually reserves a predetermined amount of space on the card for file locations. But your memory card should not be able to accept more than whats available and should be displayed correctly no matter what your using. IE pc or phone. Kingston are fairly reputable, but is your dealer reputable. There are a lot of counterfeits out there. I don't believe the phone itself is damaging these cards. Since your stating your old trusty card still works like a champ

Greetings!
I purchased a new SD card from SanDisk with 400GB.(didn't use my old one on this phone because of low storage size)
My problem is that i'm unable to copy/move/delete files to my SD card.
I can't even create a new folder.
I tried several explorers and activated the permissions for writing but no success.
I was also trying another SD card but the same problem.
If I format the card over my phone as internal storage the phone freezes, formatting as external storage is working though.
I also formatted the card on my PC but still the same issue.
Remounting the card in the settings sometimes works for a few seconds.(creating a folder,etc..)
My razer phone 2 has the newest FW with Android 9.

Heya buddy,
Just a quick enquiry, from where did you purchase your MICROSD? it sounds like you may have a fake card, the memory size is worrying indication, normally cards are sold in denominations of 32, 64, 128, 512,GB not 400 GB. Have you run a check to see if it's reporting the correct capacity size on a SD card checker. Sounds like it's a fake and when it tries to format, it goes into a loop state and crashes as the card is formatted over and over and over trying to reach the stated size but never reaches it due to it not being 400gb in size.
Sorry to spread the bad news, have had the same happen to me, I am so dam careful over which company I buy my cards from.
Let me know if I can help.

Phone says it has 393GB.
I bought it on amazon. Its a SanDisk Ultra 400GB that also appears on the official homepage. I'm pretty sure its not a fake.

Ok, that clears up the possibility of it being fake good good..
..hmmmmm. Do you have any old phones at your disposal that have a card slot? If so,. Try it in those and see if you can access it and read/write/modify files on it. Maybe format it with another device and then stick it in the razer and see if it works.
I'm sure now that cards a real deal as Amazon don't seem to allow frauds to be sold the only other thing I can think of is that it's a faulty card, it happens, they are just mass produced. Maybe a replacement if it's dudd.
I am having an SD card issue as well. I have had my Razer Phone 2 since last Monday brand new from Ebay. I purchased a Samsung 128GB class 10 (u3) SD card for it from Amazon. If I format the SD card as "internal", it shows that there is 131GB's of system files on my SD card. It shows I'm using 131GB's of storage from a total of 320GB's. The Razer Phone 2 has 64GB;s plus my 128GB SD card which would be 192GB;s total. I have tried many file manager apps, move to SD apps, etc and I cannot transfer any files. When I format the 128GB SD card as "portable", it shows the correct amount of storage space in both the phone and the card but once again I cannot transfer any files to the card. I have tried a 16GB SD card as well. The phone did recognize it and read the available storage on the phone and the card correctly. I did not format that card as I have music, photos and documents on it. I did try to transfer an app from my phone to the 16GB card and once again I could not do that. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance and take care.
I have had similar problems with my Razer2. It ruined a 512g scandisk brand microsd card. Copying, or moving files, is a real problem for this device! It hangs up sometimes and ruins the files. Never had these issues, this bad, with any other phone
I have a bunch of music on my SD card, my music app sees some of them. If I move the whole folder to my phone storage, music app sees all. If I boot to twrp (per arters kernel) and try to backup to external SD card, it fails. If I save it to the phone, works fine. It's like it doesn't constantly see the SD card slot properly.
Exfat is needed with art kernel. Stock formats as vfat a old file system. I have a 400gb exfat formatted and works perfectly
I'll have to look into getting that kernal
256gb samsung Sd card mine works fine razer phone 2
