Vista Ultimate and Tilt Sync Issues - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I got my Tilt a few days ago and I am unable to get it to Sync or setup a partnership with the phone under Windows Mobile Device Center. Each time I connect the phone via cable or bluetooth, AutoPlay opens with the options to sync via Windows Media Player, Open to view Files, or Import Picturtes. Nothing about WMDC. I called ATT, HTC, and Dell with no luck. Can anyone help me with this?
I don't see a way to open WMDC as a program, I only see it listed in my Control Panel. When I click on that I only get the menu to accept USB and Bluetooth connections, the program doesn't actually open. I do not see it listed in the List of Installed Programs. And I have also tried downloading it from Microsoft. It seems to try and install and then revers the process bar backwards at the end and nothing happens. Please help!

I went digging and found c:/windows/windowsmobile/
In that folder I saw setup.exe which I ran and it installed WMDC. The first sync failed but now I'm running a windows update for some windows mobile update.

Everything is working fine now. After I rebooted, I checked for the windows update and everything was up to date. It didn't show up as connected when I pluged the tilt in via usb. I went to the Device Manager and saw the Windows Mobile Device thing I had just updated under Network Devices. I deleted it and then I heard the sounds for disconnecting and then it connected right after then and has been working fine.

My computer dont detect my HTC TyTn II

After a hard reset on the TyTn my computer is no longer detecting it when I connect the phone to USB cable. The computer makes a sound when I connect it, but Windows Mobile Device Centrer say that TyTn II is not connected, and it does not show up in My Computer eather.
I've tryed to delete the partnership and reconnect the phone, but nothing happens.
Can anyone help me please! Now I cant install any of my programs og transfer files between the computer and the pocket pc/phone.
Try this:
tap Start > Settings > Connections.
tap USB to computer.
Uncheck the Enable advanced network functionality box

I uninstalled Windows Mobile Device Centrer and then tryed the tip you described here. At first it looked ok, my computer detected the device and installed the drivers and reinstalled Windows Mobile Device Centrer.
But my device is still not showing up in Windows Mobile Device Centrer or My Computer
Check your personal firewall settings and open the ports MS asks you to at the Windows Mobile home/support page...
Go into task manager & see if Activesync is running. I have the same problem with my tilt & if I kill activesync then reattach it takes a moment the first time, but then it works.
Make sure you are running the latest version of WMDC. I absolutely could not get WMDC to work with my HTC Wizard for months. After MS came out with an updated version of WMDC (around June, I think) it started working fine.
If you absolutely can't get it to work, consider using emoze for over the air syncing of cal, contacts, mail, etc. (or an on-line exchange account.) I had to do that for a few months until I got it to work. Emoze has the advantage of being free. Unfortunately, neither will allow file syncronization, tho.
There is no activesync running.
And everything was working just fine before my device went "mental" and I had to hard reset. So before the hard reset I could use WMDC on this computer, transfer files and run active sync. But now I cant.
I also got an online exchange account so I can sync calender and contacts. But I want to be albe to transfer files to my computer and install new software.
My WMDC version is: 6.1.6965
Some more info about the computer may help. For instance, I take it from your usage fo Windows Mobile Device Center that you are running Vista. In any case, since the problem is with the computer and not the Kaiser, I would see if the manufacturer would provide some support.
Yes, im running Vista and I buildt the PC my self.
But Im not sure its realy the PC that is the problem, because I made the changes (Hard Reset) to the device and thats what caused the problem.
Anyway, I was hoping for some way to debug/troubleshoot this problem.
I am having the same problem. I sync to any one of 8 computers at work and one at home. Work runs XP PRO and Home VISTA Ultimate x64 all worked fine untill this week. I have not made any changes since the last sync, the computers know it's hooked up due to activesync opening and trying to connect when I plug in via USB. But it never connects. I want to flash to Dutty's newest ROM but can't connect. I sync all contacts and e-mail wirelessly but need the computer to flash (I do not have a sd card yet) Any idead would be great! I have tried the ideas listed above but no joy. I have not hard reset the device as of yet ( I need some things off of it first)

I really need help with this!!! I'm pulling my hair out!
Did any of you that had this problem find a solution? I have the exact same issue except a hard reset will fix it for a while, and then the problem will reoccur a few months later. No software has been added during the time frame. Very annoying.
i've got just the same problem! plaese help us!

omg!
try activesync for XP. It came with the phone or you can download it from.

Activesync connectivity! GRRRR!

All of a sudden my activesync has stopped working. I can't connect via USB or bluetooth. It worked fine in the past! Now, if I plug in my Tilt with the USB it gives me an error message saying Activesync cannot connect, and gives me the option of troubleshooting. Going through the troubleshooting process yeilds no diagnosis; everything appears to be working ok.
If I try and sync with bluetooth, I see the Tilt connect, and then disconnect a few seconds later. No error messages, no nothing.
My Tilt's activesync window displays the message:
"To synchronize your device with a desktop computer, install the synchronization software from the Getting Started Disc included with your device on your PC." It once displayed info such as my last sync, etc.
I've tried reinstalling activesync, and disabled my firewalls.
Anybody else have this issue, or know of a fix?

Sounds like something has changed on your PC, perhaps via a Windows Update. Have you checked to see if your firewall is the culprit?
You may also want to do a clean uninstall and then reinstall Activeswync 4.5 and create a new partnership with your device.
You can also try restoring your PC back to a date that you were able to use Activesync....
This happens to me rather frequently (I am looking for an ActiveSync replacement because of it).
However, I fix it by either soft reset of the device, PC, or sometimes both. If that doesn't work, you need to delete the partnership with the PC and reconnect.

...any solutions yet?
I just got my kaiser 3 weeks ago after using a wizard for almost 2 years. what a great phone the wizard was... I kinda miss using it! Anyhow, i just experienced the sudden activesync failure. I now get random activesync openings on my kaiser with the message "To synchronize your device with a desktop computer... yada yada".
I have already setup a bogus server and set the scheduling to manual.
I have compared the wizard registry to the kaiser registry by searching every instance of 'activesync' and couldnt find anything.
I also deleted all instances of activesync in the notification queue and had memmaid rebuild it.
The device will connect to activesync but pops an error message that it could not synchronize and goes into a guest account setting. So for now I am having to use pimbackup to backup my data on the kaiser, bluetooth it to my wizard, then sync the wizard with my laptop to get the data into outlook. I am considering a hard reset but kind of want to wait until the at&t 6.1 official Rom comes out. I am also considering Chapura Pocketmirror Professional which worked well on an old Ipaq i had (wm2k3) that had sync issues. I also want to get this resolved so i can practice loading a new rom on the wizard. So....
Anyone have a fix yet? I hope so!!!
Oh, and for reference (to answer questions from other threads), my kaiser battery drains 4 to 5 times faster than the wizard in side by side use, and the kaiser definitely does not have a transflective screen while the wizard does... bummer. but the kaiser is tremednously faster!
1. Disconnect the device from your computer.
2. Try going to your device and select:
start->settings->connections->USB to PC.
3. Uncheck "enable advanced network functionality"
4. Reconnect the device.
Active Sync....
Hi,
You can try "PocketMirror® Professional 2.2.4 for Windows Mobile", its a pretty good syncronization tool, but it costs a few bucks...
I've been using the trial version of PocketMirror and must say its pretty good with my TYTN 2.
Regs,
The Reaper.
... my thoughts exactly
yeah, i tried the usb to pc option as well. even downloaded a cab from another thread that allowed me to choose rndis or usb mode. neither worked. I will probably use pocketmirror pro as well...
Hi, I just flashed a new ROM on my Orbit that works brilliantly, no issues at all, apart from the fact that the computer now doesn't see the device at all. Not even the blo-blong sound when you connect any USB device. The only thing I get connecting the cable is charging the battery. And if I start Active Sync on my Orbit I get the same message as mystic_nacho:
"To synchronize your device with a desktop computer, install the synchronization software from the Getting Started Disc included with your device on your PC"
I just tried an hard reset to try to fix the issue - no success..
Before flashing everything was fine..
Btw, my wife Diamond doesn't connect either, and it never did it: something related to the TouchFlo thing?
Any idea?
The ROM I flashed is
gullums TouchFlo2D beta 4
update
I found the Diamond 'Getting started disc' and installed the Windows Mobile resources tool...
The disc I have from the Orbit box is for Windows Mobile 5, I guess it's not worth to find it out and try...
Nothing changed, anyway.
update 2
Yesterday night out of the blue - while the Orbit was still connected to the pc - ActiveSync started to work... F. knows....
i had the same problem - sync was working fine and then stopped. what worked for me was to go to USB to PC under settings and uncheck "enable faster data syncronization".
hi,
i also had sync. problems in the past.
searched for months.. since i figured out that some registry entries on my PC where missing!
imported the mayor setting from my brothers PC and TADAAAAAA. problem solved.
search my threads and maybe you 've luck with my soloution!

Have you recently used a memory cleaning Application like memmaid, Clear Temp, or SKTools? You might have cleaned out some important notification files, like repllog, exe that is used for activesync.
I had the same thing happen to me when I first used these cleaners. I had to do a hard reset on the phone to make it work again found out about the remedies listed below after the reset.
I have heard others were successful repairing these notification Queue's with MemMaid. You can hold your stylus on the repllog, exe notification, and a popup up will appear, asking you to Recreate ActiveSync, or rebuild notification Queue. I don't know if this feature is available in Clear Temp, or SK tools.
I've also heard of restoring activesync by unchecking all of the folders, syncing, and then adding each folder back to the list, one by one, until all is restored.
I too have just developed the same problem.
I have 2 TYTN II' one will sync fine the other wont.
It all went horribly wrong after I tried to install Wisbar and an Ipod theme, after I uninstalled it, cos it didn't work I found I could no longer sync with USB to PC and the sync option is greyed out on my phone. The phone will charge with some of my usb cables, but now even seems fussy about which cable will charge and some now won't.
I am given to wondering whether the usb connection on my Phone is the problem...everything else seems to be working fine.
I have even installed different ROMS via the memory card still the problem persists.
I would love someone to come up with a fix
**UPDATE**
Well I now have got it working, in my case I was right, the usb connection on the phone was to blame. I took it to a mobile repair shop, I told the guy that I thought it was faulty he took one look at it and said that I had a bent pin, he got a little tool out and teased it back into position, sure enough when I got home it worked fine so now I am able to sync again. Not sure how long it will last though.
**Update 2**
Failed again, at least I know what's wrong now.

Unable to connect Tilt to Vista machine

My Tilt was last connected 6 days ago on 5/7. But today it will not connect. But before I begin, I DID search the forum. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit. Neither Windows Mobile Device Center or Sync Center see my device. I tried starting Active sync from the Connection manager screen but it wont connect.
The only change between now and then was adding a 250gb external hard drive. And I just disconnected it from my computer and no change. The computer attempts to connect to the Tilt and plays the USB connect sound, then a bit later will sound the USB disconnect sound. I checked device manager and saw nothing out of the ordinary. I checked every USB Root Hub and none of them listed my Tilt. I went into event viewer and this error came up:

I am getting very annoyed with this. I dont want to delete the partnership since it will erase my calendar off of the device.
I have the Tilt connected directly to the back of the computer and I tried more than one port on the back.
Please help!!
ok so what happens on another computer?
you might try going to a restore point on your pc to the last time it worked.
start/accessories/system tools/system restore
in case your system updated and changed something.
EDIT: disconnect your device. restart the PC. restart your device. after boot is complete on both devices then reconnect the device.
I honestly wouldn't do anything like that until you can find out if it works on another computer. I have heard of and seen a few jacked up mini- USB ports.

I second that advice!
I had similar issues with windos mobile device center. I can't remember how I fixed it exactly but it had something to do with a service needed for Windows Mobile Device Center to run correctly. Check all of the services related to mobile and make sure they are all running.
I took the phone to work and had another usb cable. It connects and XP tries to find a driver. The device charges on both.
EDIT: I tried ending the partnership and it wouldn't reconnect.
I was able to get it to sync. I had to turn off the use high speed usb option. So I am not sure if I will ever be able to go back to the other form of syncing.
I went to the AT&T store in my area and they rep who sold me the phone came right over and asked if everything was going OK with the phone. I explained the problem and he recommended doing a soft and/or master reset. So with instructions in hand, I got up this morning and backed up all my data to the SD card, then ran the master reset. Same problem!
Have you tried uninstalling Windows Device Center and reinstalling it, also making sure its an updated version?
Yeah, just did that. It will connect with WDC but wont sync. Very annoying. Going to try to ebay the phone.

This is actually easy and it is a well documented issue. Go to "Settings", "Connections" and "USB to PC" and uncheck the "Enable advanced networking capability". Your Tilt will then sync with Vista.
I am not sure why this is such a secret. Microsoft is well aware of this issue.

Don't see this as being the issue as I am running Vista as well and don't need to uncheck the advanced capability.
everything becomes an issue when one doesn't want to learn.

Problme Syncing Tilt with Vista/ActiveSync

I recently got a new PC with Vista Ultimat. Synchronizing the phone has been a nitemare.
If i hook the phone up, the computer beeps in recognition; I can even browse files on the phone sometimes. But ActiveSynch says I'm disconnected, the phone says I'm connected.
I find the only way I can get the synch to happen is to install MS Mobile Device Center 6.1 . I have the phone hooked up during the install, and during the install the phone is recognized and it will synch.
Any ideas on improving this. I"m surprised I didn't find this and a solution already out here (maybe using wrong search terms.).
Thanks
Try the info in here.

Thansk for pointing that out, but it didn't help.
And, interestingly, even reinstalling WMDC doesn't always work either.
What rom are you using? I had problems synching when I flashed Garmin dk2 rom. But all others work fine.
Try this, it worked for me.
Go to start<<settings<<connections tab. Then select the USB to PC icon. Uncheck enable advanced network functionality. Restart PPC and then try to re-sync.

New Xperia will not connect with Vista

Hi,
I am getting a bit frustrated over this.
When I connect my X1 to my Vista x86 nothing happens (well the USB task tray icon show for about a second and vanishes again).
When I disable the "advanced option" in the USB/PC connection settings in the X1 I at least get a USB connection with something identified as "PocketPC USB Sync".
Any idea why this is happening and how I can get a real connection with the win mobile device center?
Thanks for helping me out!
Cheers,
Tillman
maybe give this a try:
http://modernnomads.info/wiki/index.php?page=Windows+Mobile+Device+Center+Troubleshooting
I've once had the issues of not able to connect my Windows Mobile device with vista too, and it can get very annoying.. good luck with it.
You might want to try and disable the firewall and then connect the device. I had this problem with Sygate Personal Firewall (sygate was bought by symantec and personal firewall is now terminated and no longer available)
Thanks for the quick response guys!
I already tried disabling the firewall (nod32) but that did not help.
Also checked all services - everything is peachy in that department.
But still - no connection.
When I switch back to "legacy mode" (disabling the advanced option in usb/pc settings on the device) then the device will tell me that I need to install active sync 4.5 or higher and wmdc still does not connect.
This is really strange...and annoying and the same time.
Any more ideas or any way for me to debug what's going on?
Thanks for you help!
Have you intalled "Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1" on your Vista-PC?
The MobileDeviceCenter should be standard without the need to install...
At my Vista Home the X1 had no problems to connect.
Open the Mobile Device Center and delete all old connections of other PPC. Then start your PC again, Softreset your X1 and try again. This should help. I had the problems too, when first connecting, because he didn't liked my G900-connection which was first
After this I too could install my G900 again and no problems since yet (2 weeks).

Well sometimes the Mobile Device center could stuff up or not work due to some issues such as installation of Mobile Device Center 6.1 went wrong. I have experienced that I think I didn't follow the procedures correctly and things just wouldn't work. Eventually I had to do some uninstall and reinstall many times to finally get it working.
When I first plugged mine it it installed some drivers but didn't show up in the Mobile Device Center; unplugging and replugging in caused it to work...did you change settings in between plugging in for the second time?
What I have tried so far (and nothing worked):
Uninstall / reinstall WMDC
Uninstall / reinstall Win Mobile Remote Adapter (yes, this does show up once I am connected with "advanced" USB mode)
Uninstall / reinstall "PocketPC USB Sync" (shows when X1 is set to legacy USB mode)
When in "advanced" mode I can also see a new LAN connection showing up in network overview.
The same X1 on a different Vista 32bit right next to this one will connect just fine. So it's definitely about a driver or config thing with this Vista.
This is driving me...well you know what.
btw, you did try restarting your comp when performing some of those steps, and you did try different USB ports right?
I know that you had to ask.
Yes I did. I have rebooted the system several times in between all those reinstallation tasks.
By the way. When I am in USB legacy mode and reconnect the USB cable then the X1 will show a messagebox telling me that it's connecting with the host and that the user credentials / user account (having to translate here) are correct.
But still NO connection visible in WMDC.
I had the same problem with my X1. I assumed that because my HTC Diamond worked the X1 would as well.
I finally installed WMDC from the SE install cd, and bingo!! al good. Hope it works for you...
Wow!
Even though it does not work (yet) it's showing some new signs.
Installing WMDC from SE disc fails at 99% progress and then rolls back.
There's gotta be some installation error log this, right?
Thanks for coming up with that suggestion. Really, I should try installing from vendor CDs more often instead of hunting down the latest version on the net.

maybe give event viewer a try and check under Windows Logs (not sure if it will be application or system tho)
just in case you aren't sure, in vista either type in "Event Viewer" in the start menu search bar, or type in "eventvwr"
Don't you just like vista?
That helped (to install SE's WMDC). The issue was that my HTC Universal was still connected to one USB port (for testing purposes since that device is not recognized either).
As soon as I unplugged the HTC I was able to complete the WMDC installation.
Unfortunately though it still won't connect to my X1.
Any more ideas?
what is your settings in Windows Mobile Device Center connection Settings?
Well here is my settings that is working with my x1:
Allow USB connections checked
Allow connections to "DMA"
This computer is connected to "Automatic" (this shouldn't matter)
Allow automatic device authentication checked
Allow data connection on device when connected to PC (this shouldn't matter either)
also, while this link was in the first link that I have posted for trouble shooting, just want to make sure you actually tried The offical Windows Mobile Device Center troubleshooting guide?
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-troubleshooting.mspx
namely these steps:
Quote"
If Windows Live OneCare is installed on your machine, it may be blocking the device connectivity. Please click here for the steps to configure Windows Live OneCare to allow the device to connect.
My device wasn’t connected during this installation.
While it is not a strict requirement that you have a device connected during the installation process of Windows Mobile Device Center, we highly recommend that you do.
"
I didn't have the DMA set (changed that now). Everything else already was like you described and it does not work.
This really freaks me out. I always hated my iTunes/iPhone connectivity but that honestly works much smoother. Of course I do understand that this behavior is non standard as I have experienced myself that the phone works with my other Vista machine but that does not really help me here.
Any update on this? I am having the same problem.
I'm having the _exact_ same problem too, but in Vista x64. I don't know why WMDC can be such a c**t sometimes, as I have never been able to 'sync' with my Media Center PC.
My only saving grace is that my laptop has Bluetooth, and syncing works great on it. I have never had success connecting the USB cable (with many options changed around of course) to either of these computers. Only Bluetooth syncing works for me...
Hopefully we can find the answer!
What USB cable are you using??? the one that came with Xperia??? Cos the one that came with my Xperia never worked out of the box, it could only charge...
I also got another extra cord which came in another box, that worked fine for both syncing and transferring data until today, now it says USB device not recognized, maybe I was trying the flash X1 with new ROM through SEUS, did the whole lower volume key and power button to get the 3 strips.
Now I am using the USB cable that came with my external HDD, that's currently working, hopefully it won't fail me.
so any ideas??? I don't want to keep changing cables...
