i have a problem where only a small amount of the people that call me actually show the ID. everyone will display the number, but not everyone will display the name.
ive done multiple rom flashes.
multiple radio flashes.
anyone had this problem?
This happens to me. I found out it is because the caller ID will only find the contact if you have the persons area code in the contact number. Same happens if you dial a number and don't put the area code, it won't put the perons name you are calling on the screen.
Anyone found a way around this?

Hello, i just want to ask did your caller ID software working smoothly? Mine sometimes run greaat but sometime didn't recognize caller even i have safe it and edit the pict, ringtones etc...
How about better software, anyone know?
For some reason, my Alpine doesn't show the caller's name correctly unless I do this:
As my phone is on O2, anybody in my address book who is also on O2, I have their number in as "07xxx xxxxxx" (where the Xs are their number, all mobile numbers in the UK begin 07). However, anybody who isn't on O2, I HAVE to have their number in the international +7xxx xxxxxx format, otherwise their name doesn't show up when they ring me.
I don't know why this happens, and I've not been able to figure out a workaround, and this has happened ever since I got my first XDA (I've had two), and I've done a couple of hard resets and fresh reinstalls and this still happens.
So yeah, that's what I had to do to get my caller ID working properly.
I am also on O2 and have all my numbers in international format but occasionally the device is just slow looking the number up.
It will display the number for a few rings then show the name. Of course I don't know if it always finds the name because sometimes by then I've answered the call.
Yeah, I have that problem too - the number only comes up after a few seconds if I don't have them in the right format for the person calling (depending on what network they're on) - by which time they've usually hung up or it's gone to voicemail, so meh.
Hm it's strange, for me i didn't wotk to set international format, it just show the number. And there is a funny thing, i run my caller ID and just look around, then i did soft reset. after that it will show the name and they personal photo etc. but after i soft reset again it didn't work again? :?
Any one know the other program wich do same function but does they job better?
Thank for all.
Ermm.. maybe u could try to download O2 plus...
when most people call it only displays the number, rarely anyone has the caller ID. i think theres only like 2 people in my contact list that it has their name.
so most people call and it just shows a number, i dont always know who it is.
ive already done the following:
added my country area code and city area code to each contact.
flashed multiple roms (AT&T, HTC, Duty's)
switched from using 3G to Edge and GPRS.
has anyone else experianced this?
I'm guessing they are on the sim? Had the same exact problem and it got really annoying. I had to go and edit every single contact that didn't have the are code. That's what you have to do. It's weird because on the 8525, you don't need that.

so you had to give all your contacts area codes? did seem to make a difference for me. if i gave someone an area code it still didnt show when they called.
Exactly. Had to do it for all that didn't have an area code.

Yeah I notice this a lot living and working overseas.
Some cell networks send the caller ID as a full international number and some send it a local number (as they do here).
Best way I found of is to edit the numbers in Outlook contacts on the PC as it will prompt you for the correct country and area codes into the standard (MS-US) format ie +971 (xxx) xxxxxxxx and the phone then seems to start recognising them.
I have an unknown number calling me and I want to know who it is, I answer they hang up. The only way that I know of that will unhide the number is through trap call. I don't know how many of you are familiar with trap call but pretty much you get an unknown number calling you, reject it, then it comes back to you with their real number. I have it on my spare phone and it works but I don't want to out it on my main line, because it messes up your voice mail. I can foward calls to my spare phone from my main phone but I don't want to be doing that 24/7
So does anyone know if there is any sort of app that I can install to my xperia that will unhide unknown numbers? I figured since many of the people in these forums are a lot more knowledgeable than maybe someone knew of such an app. It would be pretty handy Thanks
I'm looking for exactly the same kind of util. We don't have trap call available here. If someone can explain how the caller ID process work, does the number even get transmitted to your phone? but not showing due to some setting in the data of the acctual call?
The other side of the coin then, can you witheld your ID on a SMS?
I have a question regarding Caller ID.
Over the years with CallerID feature I always thought that caller's name & phone number would display even if it is not in my contact list. It would only show the phone number of the caller. That is how it has been ever since I had cellphone.
Previously I had HTC Magic and even that phone would only display the phone number only for callers that was not in my list.
Now not too long ago I purchased a Bell's Samsung Galaxy S i9000 which was rooted and already had JPK running. I currently have it running on Rogers Wireless Network. Sure enough even with this phone only callers' number would display.
Few days ago I actually flashed back to the stock firmware for this phone, which is JH2 firmware. I was suprised to see that phone would now display the name of the caller! +obviously the number, even if it was not listed on my contacts! (I actually received a call from wrong number). What is more shocking? was that I used my Skype(PC) to do a test call and as usually it would display with funny phone numbers like 01234567, etc... BUT! it literally displayed my Skype(PC)'s user name !!
So my question is, what is required to display the unknown callers name? and not just the number as usual?
I am sure it is not hardware based but up to the phone's operating system?
Could someone explain this to me?
Thank you.
Firmware aside
one thing i do know, is that there are 2 Caller ID services now in day in all Canadian/USA telcos (not sure about internationals)
the standard old caller ID if paid or included in your plan, you will always get the phone number of the person calling you, unless the dialing person brocked it.
the NEW caller ID which is usually an extra fee to enable or included in your plan, will show your the caller ID name (even if it's not in your address book) if it's not broked
so from your experiment, it appears that some firmwares are missing the support for the NEW caller ID feature
I am having a very frustrating problem with my Note 8. If someone calls me from a phone with a blocked number but dials *82 (to unblock their number) it still shows the incoming number being "Restricted".
I don't have this issues with any other Sprint phone on my account. From the same landline dialing *82 reveals the number in Caller ID on the other phones.
Does anyone have any idea what the heck is going on and how to get this to work right?
Just got this problem solved with Sprint tech support. Posting the solution for the benefit of anyone who has the problem in the future and comes across this thread.
I guess I had a trial of the Premium Caller ID running and that can make manually unblocked numbers still appear to be blocked. Sprint turned it off and now I can see the caller ID when the caller uses *82 to unblock their number.
