Kaiser randomly drops calls - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

When making phone calls, the Kaiser sometimes drops the call. This is what happens:
I stop hearing the person at the other end of the line BUT the call isn't dropped yet. For about 6-8 seconds the time counter continues. After that the phone 'finally' drops the call and I hear the 'dropped call' sound.
I can't find any pattern. Sometimes he drops the call after a minute, sometimes after 18 minutes. Here's some extra information (might not be relevant):
My provider uses the 1800Mhz band, while most people I calll use the 900Mhz band.
When checking my voicemail the calls never drop. I haven't checked yet if calling to people that use the same provider cause the phone to drop calls
I don't use bluetooth, but have the fix installed anyway
My provider only supports EDGE but I don't use that
Dropped calls have nothing to do with reception or battery. When having full reception the calls still drop
I already tried manually selecting the network, network type and band, but nothing helps.
I'm using the original ROM with my Kaiser:
ROM: 1.56.405.5
Radio: 1.27.12.32
Protocol: 22.45.88.07W
Any ideas? thx

Possible fix
In an effort to solve the problems myself, I updated the radio (didn't want to do it at first because of possible warranty issues).
I used Radio 1.27.12.17 for a few days, but my Kaiser kept dropping calls.
Now I'm using Radio 1.27.15.32 and up until now I haven't had a single dropped call.
So all I can recommend is upgrading to this Radio ROM (1.27.15.32) when having the same problems.
Check this thread for more info:

Broke again...
I have been using Radio ROM 1.27.15.32 for some 20 days now, without any issues.
But since Thursdaynight (14/02) all of a sudden my Kaiser started dropping calls again.
I have no idea why. I will be trying other ROMs again.
Any ideas? thx

i guess this is a hardware issue since i tried 3 different radios including a 6.1 wm radio and the issue still remains
i tried
1.27.12.17
1.27.15.32
1.64.08.21

Have you guys tried completely disabling data? (just for testing)

Ever since I have my Kaiser, data connections have been disabled using Kaisertweak (Great tool btw, thx).
But I just don't get it; why is this issue all of a sudden reappearing? I haven't changed any software or settings.
And if it where a hardware issue, then why resurface after a few weeks?
So many questions...
Thx anyway

Have u ever solved this issue? I am exchanging my S620 Dash for a Kaiser with similar problem in 5hrs time and I would like to know if I can solve the problem on the Kaiser.

Explanation and Help - Please [2 Parts]

Part1:
I've been having a 8125 for a while now. and I love it. But lately I've been having a problem of phonecalls not getting to me. I know I'm not out of range or anything but I'm just not reciving calls. Even when someone leaves a msg I sometimes get no notification. Even after a reset. But when I actually recieve a call and then they leave a msg I see about 5 voicemails waiting for me when the phone actually only ran once. I with Cingular (before anyone ask).

Rom Date 2/10/06

Anyone shed some light for me on this?

Unexplainably missing calls
Respectfully, I do not think the answer to Part 1 is in the indicated thread. That thread mainly deals with dropped calls in combination with GPRS apps.
I have the exact same problem as Zaiaku experiences: missed calls, while the phone doesn't actually have a 'missed call', and the voice-mail notification arriving hours later. At the moment the other person tries to call me, he/she immediately gets voice-mail, even though I'm certain I have good reception at the location I'm at.
I'm not running any GPRS apps (not even mail), and I do not have the dropped calls problem.
Operator: T-Mobile NL
Qtek 9100 G4
ROM: 2.24.10.1 WWE
Radio: 2.25.11
ExtROM: 2.24a Mr.Clean
I hope anyone has a bright idea. This is becoming quite embarrasing...
GPRS may still be the cause of missed calls...
Unless you have completely disabled GPRS it can be the cause of missed calls. I experienced mystry missed calls before I disabled GPRS completely (by calling my provider and telling them to block Data Services except Text Messaging). When I returned to using GPRS I have eliminated the missed calls problem with careful management of GPRS applications and the recent registry tweak found in the referenced thread.
Also, Zaiaku gave no info about what he is or is not running on his phone.
I have the same problem, also time to time my phone answers for me or even worse, dials for me.
The problem is that I use GPRS often and need it to run (can not disable).

For the GPRS Problem look to the thread in my first post here. There is a 'fix' of sorts.
If you have an active GPRS Session then incoming call will always go to voicemail, that can't be changed.
As for the answering or dialing be itself, I've not heard of that before but I wonder if you have the buttons locked when your device is sleeping?
I've have a few times when while removing the phone from its case I hit the red or green buttons enough for a press to register.

radio

hi all
seem to have a problem with my vario 3... i cant recieve incoming calls unless ive made an outgoing call... and i always have to make an outgoing call twice to get it to connect...
been having this prob since thursday, so was trying various radios and even some new roms... but i cant resolve this issue
any suggestions...
for now I am on DCSv1.7 and the reccomended UK radio... the prob started on the Vista rom which was flawless until this happened... and i have tried every 6.1 radio out there...
cant help but think the vario has developed a fault
cheers
no-one got any suggestions?
i've just reloaded the stock tmobile rom and same problem. when i first try to call out, the call drops, but the 2nd time it works...
when i try to call my phone i get a "phone not available" message, then if i try again it works...
i shudder to think of the missed calls i'm getting and not knowing about...
Whats your radio, what version of WM do you have and its probably your area.
at the moment, and i've tried nearly all 6.0 and 6.1 roms, but Sleuth1.2 and 1.27.12.32, but again have tried many (obviously 6.0 with 6.0 etc )
its not my area, as never had this happen before in this area... i have full signal...
spoke to tmob, they said its a known fault and to set the band to GSM, which, it appears has fixed this issue... but i no longer seem to get 3G or HSPDA etc
what i dont get is why has this happend after 6 months of flawless stock rom usage, and 3 months of cooked rom usage? tis all a bit random...
but i guess its fixed for now, just means ive lost high speed data

Cingular Radio Question - Cannot Receive Calls

I have the Cingular 8125 version of this phone and over the past few weeks I've had one nagging issue with the phone. I cannot always receive calls (The 'E' symbol to the left of the bars turns into an X sometimes, or sometimes it even boots with an X there. I can make calls but not receive them when this is the case)
I'm not sure what it could be. I went back to the factory ROM from HTC, and it seems to work better than a couple other ROMs, although it just acted up again (after about a week of behaving nicely). If I clear storage and make it fresh again, then it seems to start working again (like now, although I'm not sure how long it will last this time).
So, could it be the radio? I have no idea what the radio actually does, but it sounds like it involves calling. When I first wanted to install new ROMs, I tried to do a HardSPL change or something following a guide here. Eventually I went back to original data, radio, etc. and now for new roms I do SoftSPL. Here is my device information - please let me know if something doesn't look right...
ROM version 2.25.11.1 WWE
ROM date: 5/11/06
Radio version 02.25.11
Protocol version: 4.1.13.12
ExtROM version 2.25.11.102
WM5.0 OS 5.1.195 (build 14928.2.2.0)
IPL 2.25.0001
SPL 2.25.0001
GSM 2.25.11
OS 2.25.11.1
If all of this looks like it should from the factory, are there any other ideas on what causes this issue? Again, I can ALWAYS make calls, but if it acts up and that 'X' shows up where an 'E' (or 'G' occasionally), then received calls go straight to my voice mail.
Note: I bought the phone on eBay and it is supposed to be unlocked for any service provider. I have AT&T so I do not know if it truly is unlocked (and don't really care, for now). However, I thought I would mention this in case that process might affect the information above, or if in the process it could cause a problem such as mine with the phone. I have flashed new ROMs and things of that nature several times, which may or may not set the phone back to default (locked to AT&T) - I do not know these things.
I had the same problems that you are experienceing....so I upgraded my radio to 2.71.1, and it pretty much fixed all of my problems...simply hit up Google for Wizard Radio 2.27.1 and you should be able to find it.
Just for verification (as neither are bringing results that jump out at me), which radio am I looking for? 2.27.1 or 2.71.1 ? Your answer consists of both. I am assuming 2.71. I found 2.71.11 and downloaded it, is this correct?
Next, should this not work I can easily revert back to the default radio, correct? I'm pretty sure, but just want to make sure as I haven't specifically updated the radio - just ROMs (which I believe have various radio versions anyways)
yeah man, 2.71.11 is correct, I kinda got cross eyed for a sec there lol. But yes, 2.71.11 is the one that I have been using for a good while now, and I have had no problems with it. And also, yes, you can revert back to your old Radio ROM if this one does not work any better.
Thanks. I'm about to update and we will see what happens. I will post results for anyone curious that runs across this thread.
I've had the issue on the factory ROM, jaguar 4.0, and another HTC-business or something ROM, so perhaps this radio update will fix it.
2.71.11 radio installed. When it reset after flashing the ROM, the phone was not working properly (same issue, not receiving calls). I did a soft reset and it is working now, although there hasn't been enough time to see if it will continue working.
However, I would like to note that I am pretty sure of one thing now: When the phone boots up, sometimes the GSM row is missing (only shows the other 3, not all 4). When this happens, the phone cannot receive incoming calls (but can make them). When all four show on boot, the phone works fine. However, it may be that while the phone is on, it becomes disconnected somehow and stops working. I haven't determined that yet, as this is just one thing I am starting to watch patterns in.

There are quite a few other reasons other then Rom(OS) or Radio Rom in not getting good reception or signal quality,it may cud be a Hardware problem, the external antenna might not be getting a proper connection with the internal antenna connectors, did you ever drop your phone,it sometimes happen that while dropping the connectors loose proper connection, secondly, may be the network signal quality is not better in the area where you move, try out in different locations, check if it improves.
BTW,OS (Rom) has got nothing to do with reception/signal quality, its only the Radio Rom (GSM),which improves the signal quality.Changing/flashing Roms (OS) will not effect Radio(GSM) of the phone,it'll only effect if the Rom which you are flashing contains an upgraded version of Radio Rom in it.
Thanks for the response. I knew only some ROMs included an update for the radio. I've managed to get Jaguar 4.0 installed back on the phone and the 2.71.11 radio. It's been working, but then again that was only since last night. We will see if it lasts through the week.
If not, I will attempt to check out the hardware connections for the antenna. I took the phone apart once when I was letting it dry out after an accident, and it isn't too difficult to take apart. Just need to look up where the antenna connection is. I haven't had any major drops, but the phone was purchased used (although it worked perfectly fine for a couple weeks I believe when first purchased as I was testing out various ROMs for it). Anyways, thanks. I will check antenna if this radio update doesn't help.
It still sounds strange though. The signal bars would say the signal was strong, I'd have great reception making calls, but the 'X' would be to the left of those signal bars and I couldn't receive calls at all. It seems that if the radio / antenna was causing a poor reception, it would apply to both incoming and outgoing calls and the reception would correctly be represented by the signal bars. Again, the signal bars are usually strong, even when I cannot receive calls.
Something is screwy, i had TNTv2 6.1 flashed for a couple of weeks with the 2.19.11 radio, seemed to work fine. Just recently its been acting up. Last night even, people were trying to call but my phone never rang, no SMS, pages, or voicemail notifications would go through either. I did notice that my phone dropped signal and displayed an H (prob similar to your X) and then got signal again. After it registered again, still nothing.
This morning i did a soft reset, SMS notifications didn't come through until i sent myself an SMS through email, then they all flooded in....
This whole radio ordeal sucks. I'm on AT&T btw.

Calls are disconnected

At my company we use more than 30 S730's which have the same issue.
Randomly, while people are having a conversation (mobile - mobile / mobile - landline),
the connection is being cut off resulting in the inevetible 3-tone "Your call is being disconnected" sound.
Does anyone have this issue? I'm trying to figure out if this problem is related to the combination of Vodafone and the S730,
the S730 itself, or that there's something else that's dark and dangerous and wants to take over our phones.
Regards,
Korny
I dont use Vodafone, and only have dropped one call since the phone released due to bad reception where I was. Whats the connectivity like when your dropping calls? Anything causing interference or generating a signal that could bump you off?
Do you have bluetooth on?
With a t-mobile sim I couldn't make or receive calls when 3G was active, turned it off and it worked fine. This does not happen all the time.
Does that help?
edit: I have bluetooth off, as per question above.
Flame-bait:-
I've only had a quick search so I'll keep trying, but if anyone has a link to anything to automatically make sure you use GPRS unless you ask for data, then I'd be grateful.
Also links to reg keys or anything as I am not shy of a bit of tampering.
Something similar to mortscript for kaiser...
I have the same problem with my HTC S730. I think that dropping calls is someway connected with poor signal, but not that bad to dropp call. Also a WiFi may have some impact to this, but i'm not sure of it. I'm using phone in Poland 3G mobile operator.
Same here
Hey Guys,
My s730 seems to have the same issue. At least its similar. Sometimes incoming calls are auto-denied just after one ring. The problem is gone after a cold-start.
Greets,
Sam.

I recently have again this problem and even cold restar didn't help After another restart it finally start working as it should. What was most strange in this is fact that I received sms, but I couldn't make a call!
I wrote to HTC about it, but as usual my questions were ignored.
EDIT: I had enough of this and I flashed my radio from 1.58 (shipped) to 1.64 version. I hope this help and resolve my problems.
The new radio didn't solve the whole problem with disconnecting calls, but now it happens a bit rarely And battery life also has slightly improved.

Power management bug(?) in 2.03 ROMs block incoming calls !?

Hello all,
I installed the official 2.03.404.2 NLD ROM on my HTC Touch Diamond.
(Radio version is 1.09.25.23). I didn't use the backup utility to restore my settings afterward, instead I installed my few applications by hand again.
I configured the phone to only use GSM, both to conserve power and costs (I have wifi both at home and in the office).
However, with this new ROM, often the phone becomes unresponsive to incoming calls. It happens often after the power management puts the phone to sleep whilst I have an active wi-fi connection using Opera.
People who try to call me then get my mailbox, even though the phone is ON and everything looks normal on the display. Crazy enough, the Diamond itself can make phone calls without problems, and then I'm immediately flooded with text messages from my provider telling me there are messages on my mailbox.
I now make dummy phone calls several times daily just to be sure the phone remains logged into the network, but this really sucks. Does anyone else experience this?
what network are you using?
T-mobile NL over GSM.
But the problem coincides with the installation of the new ROM.
I have exactly the same ROM / same Radio / same provider (T-Mobile NLD) as you have, and I don't have this problem (at least, not that I know off). I also have the phone in GSM mode almost always instead of 3G mode. So I think it's not a bug in the rom. However, there is already a newer rom available than the one we have, so maybe you could try upgrading to the latest?
I have ROM version: 1.93.720.2 WWE (Radio version: 1.00.25.07) on my HTC Diamond. I have never modified or upgraded my ROM. I face a similar kinda problem as yours. The only difference is that it happens once in a day and that too early morning. So I have to make a call to any no. to wake my phone up. This sounds funny but yeah I m facing this problem. Is it bcos of ROM version? Whats the latest ROM version for HTC Diamond? How can I update it? If I update ROM will I lose all my data. Please hlp I m new to this.
I m from India and using AIRTEL network over GSM.
@Suchit_g:
Early in the morning, you mean shortly
after pulling out the charger cable?
Sounds like a power management prob.
@Drazix: Thanks for the info about
the new ROM, I will try it out.
Hmm bobokonijn
Even I thought so but this happens even if my phone is not charging. I charge my phone once in two days but this happens almost every morning. The 1st call of the day should be made by me. If I fail to call, my callers get the unavailability message even if my phone is on and showing network signal bars. My phone starts working only and only if I use network (either call someone or use GPRS) for the 1st time in the morning and then for the rest of the day my phone works without any problems. Hope someone can help me out with this?
