Is there a posibility to let the GPS on, even TYTN II goes in Standby?
I only want to track my route and don't want to loose much power with the display.
You need to use a screen toggle command such as those found with SPB Pockets Plus & other X-Button type programs.
Yeah, there is a program called trackme, which if you check this forum a lot I'm sure to have seen, that has a button to turn the screen off, although thats not really putting it in standby since all the buttons can still be pressed, so if you want to keep your phone in your pocket that won't work so well. I have also been trying to find a good solution to this problem with not much luck so far. For now I just use my car charger
BTW if you do a lot of driving/traveling around you should check out the program in my signature, its a pretty cool map program that pays for collecting GPS data. It really pays too, I made $40 in less than a week with just normal driving.
Sorry I couldn't be more help with the standby issue, if you find a good solution to this let me know.

Hi folks,
Another quick one... You've probably seen I want to try to disable the phone driver on my BA...
...Can anyone suggest a method I might be able to kill some of the lighting on the BA? Ideally I'd like to turn off the status-LED in the top right corner, and the green and red call buttons too (or any combination if they're not _all_ possible)?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rob.
On the new WM5 ROM's there is an option to leave bluetooth on but turn off the phone "Start -> Settings -> System -> Power -> Wireless"
It's abit of a pain to get to if you want to keep turning the phone on and off all the time, but the option is there till a better solution comes along.
Very handy for long drives using TomTom without anyone calling you.
As for the lights, I'm not sure the flashy lights really use that much battery? Or do you have some other reason?
Hey Percz,
Thanks for your reply...
Interesting info about the WM5 ROM...
To be honest I've been out of the XDA thing for a while; but I've just decided I want to sort my setup out properly now; as part of that I did start to look at the Wiki for WM5 stuff the other night; but it looks like there's going to be hours to catch up on (I couldn't even decide which ROM was going to be best for me to try), and I don't want to risk having a flaky OS and being unable to revert... I'd love for somone to be able to honestly correct me and tell me that it's quite straightforward to select and upgrade to a *solid* WM5 ROM?
Basically I'm going to be using the PDA for Sat Nav 95% of the time now; maybe the occasional other task but rarely. That's why I want to disable the phone - it's not got a SIM card in it, so having to keep hitting cancel when the phone-dialogue pops-up and then switch to flight-mode is getting to be a pain (I use speaker-mounts so would prefer to eliminate any chance of GSM traffic radio interference on the speaker if it's going to be quite simple to do); and killing the lights would be nice too because they're not really required anymore and a bit of a distraction in a dark-car.
Thanks again and regards,
Rob.
Hmmmm...
Foolishly enough, I somehow hadn't noticed that the thing stays in flight-mode after a soft-reset once its set? I guess the short-of-average day fiddlin with pootas at work has got me looking for problems that aren't really there.
Having to set it once after each hard-reset is something I think I can live with *sigh* heheh
Still, I'd very much like to kill at least some of the lights... Mainly the green and red call buttons, I'd like to lose the status LED too really; so there's no needless glare of lights in the car at night; but I guess it's sort-of useful as an 'at-a-glance' charging-status indicator...
Thanks again,
Rob.
You know you could do what I do with my GPS unit.... Masking tape!
Seriously, it works and doesn't require any hacking.
If it was me, I would leave a SIM in the phone and just disable the Phone in the option i mentioned, saves alot of hassel that way. Plus you have a spare SIM 'just in case', or add TomTom Travel later on.
Just a question though, why not buy a dedicated TomTom unit? They do a neat little unit that's about pocket size now, they advertise it for motorbikes but it's really quite neat for walking around high streets with it in your hand.

Having a SIM in there would be useful for the TomTom extras of course... Something to keep in mind certainly. For the time being I'll just use Flight Mode to keep the thing from nagging me - Going back to your mention of WM5 (and slightly OT); how've you found the ROM you're running in terms of general stability and feature(/bugs) - particularly with TomTom, but in general too - any headaches? - would you recommend the upgrade to someone who wants to use the device as I do?
In terms of having a dedicated navigation device; I do quite like some of the units available, but the next time I'm investing a chunk in my sat nav setup will be to either install my long overdue CarPC or maybe even swap-out the Centre Console in my car for a double-DIN version so I can install Audi OEM nav (CarPC being a bit wobbly)... I just want to get the PDA to a 'tidy' solution until that point (I guess towards the end of summer).
Thanks again,
Rob.
Folks,
Recently I upgraded my phone from 8525 to Tilt. Overall a great device but there are few quirks but I guess you cant have everything. I have few questions which I tried to find answers for but couldnt.
1) Is there a way to manually turn GPS on or off? My GPS was working fine but after I installed Map4PDA i think it changed some GPS COM port settings etc. and now none of the Satellite programs such as MS Live Search or Google Maps work. Everytime i start any one of them they cant communicate with intermediate driver and the application hangs. When i kill the app, the GPS hardware i think remains on (the orange LED keeps blinking) and the device becomes ridiculously slow. Remedy is to soft reset the device but its a PITA. Besides, now I cannot use any of the navigation software. If I hard reset the phone i guess it will restore everything back to normal but i'll lose all my customization which i really dont want to. I guess there are backup programs out there but not sure how good they are w.r.t. restoring system state and even if do restore system state, i may have same problem with GPS. So whats the good way to control GPS functionality, change settings etc.
2) Is there any way to leave LCD on while you are on the phone, backlight can be turned off. Currently its a pain to bring up LCD when you are on the phone, you have to use some hardware button to turn it on, not really ideal. I dont want to turn off power save completely for obvious reasons. When i was using MS Live Search and using GPS, it kept the display on all the time even though i was on battery which I think was a bright idea.
3) I use Slide2Unlock and with 8525 i could use the hardware navigation button (the rocker switch) to unlock the phone but with Tilt it doesnt work, any way to get that working (I should probably post this question in S2U thread).
IMO # 2,3 at least should be registry-tweakable, just need to know which one. GPS question might be hard to crack but I hope some of the experts here would be able to provide an answer.
Thanks in advance, there is a great site!!!
Sam
I will answer #1 - Map4PDA will kill your GPS. I posted about this last week with no replies. Unfortunately, my only option was to hard reset my Tilt. I searched til my fingers were down to the bone and found nothing that revive my GPS. I could see that it was turning on, but it wouldn't turn off again after using Google Maps (or any other program, for that matter).
In the end, hard reset was my only solution. Too bad, cuz it's a sweet program that will let you use Google, Yahoo or MSN maps, plus I like the neat speedo.
.:Christian:.
Too bad I didnt come accross your post before I installed that stupid app, darn! Thanks for the insight but that means there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
Ok here is the Problem,
several times throughout the day i go to pull my phone out of its nice little holster and i hit the power button to wake it up and it was off.
very frustrating because it has to boot up and then i have like 5 emails 9 texts and the phone begins to ring telling me they have been trying to get ahold of me for the last 20 minutes or so. ooops soory run on.
here is what i have on my tilt
winterface
throttle launcher 9.5
s2u
s2v
live search
sirius wm5
google maps
Ygo!
PSNES
Diamond TV
core player
icontact
blah blah blah....
etc... the usuals.
i have uninstalled winterface and TL and tried it that way still no luck.
the holster that i use is this one.

(it has a pouch for my blutooth and spare batt...)
Edit: i seem o recall someone saying not use a holster with a magnet or something? any truth to phone interferance from a magnet.?
Answer: (for when its figured out)
Please gurus throw me some ideas, and dont just say mean stuff just because i didnt search the forum first cuz i did. also people who are mean on the internet are usually punks or nerds in real life. I happen to be mean in real life and a nerd on the internet. lol...
Whew. thats a lot
Carefully clean the contacts on your battery and on the device...

As to the case with magnet, i use one that has two in it, with no issues,
What are your power management settings ? incase you do not know, go to settings>power> then at the bottom advanced tab, un-check the turn off device box .

Well in this case power off means to put the device to standby -- this is normally what you want to keep your battery from draining too fast.
It sounds like in his case the phone is actually turning off, since it has to boot.
hence my advice to check the contacts

I agree, it's a good idea to clean the contacts carefully with a cotton bud and contact cleaner or IPA (applied to the cotton bud). Any grease (such as from fingerprints) will likely not be seen on the contacts, but it's effects will be felt in this way along with possible erratic indications of low battery charge state or charging probs. If that doesn't make a diff, the next thing to check would be to remove the blah blah blah package, that software company always makes unreliable programs
But seriously, the o/p is unlikely to find someone with the exact same combination experiencing the same problem so I think the easiest way to track down the culprit is to do a hard reset and then progressive reinstall, testing for a day or two after installing each package until you find which package, when installed, brings on the problem.
thank you for your answers folks.
here is what i have done, cleaned the battery contacts.
using a different case.(not sure if it matters but no magnets)
and removed Winterface...
so far there have not been any issues with the Phone's power being off.
(yeah i knew it after i wrote it the whole standby/off thing thanks)
so far no issues for 12 hours or so.
@F2504x4
How long have you used the magnet case, and do you use it everyday?
just curious...?

first Glad to hear that you hopefully resolved the issue, but it will be hard to say just what fixed it, I drive racing karts, and one thing I learned is to only make one change at a time in order to figure out if it was helpful or not..something to think about..
As to the case, been using it for over a year just about 24/7 with both a 8525 and the Tilt, before I had a Pearl with a magnet , no issues , cool thing about the Pearl was that the magnet would cause the Pearl to go into sleep mode when holstered it, by design and would wake up as soon as you pulled it from the pouch .
so i do no think the case was the issue.
BTw the magnets are very strong and the flap will not open very easily.
Hi,
I'm using my Xperia as mobile navigtion while I'm riding my motorbike. Two days ago I was driving on the highway...when suddenly my music stopped and my device startet a Phonecall (to the last person I called) - this happened THREE TIMES in half a hour! (kinda expensive...)
While I'm using TomTom (or any other GPS software) I cannot turn the keylock in, because then the software won't get any GPS-signal.
Now I wanted to know if anybody knows a registry-string I have to change that GPS would work while I'm using for example TomTom and listening to music and turn the keylock on.
I updated my Rom to R3AA007 few days ago...but with older ROMs it's the same...
As far as i know, most of nav-progs have a lock-while-drive-mode, maybe the tomtom too.
that'S not enough. when you break at a traffic-light, the lock may be removed because it's only active over a defined speed. but when I'm using it with my motorbike, it's in my pocket...and everytime the touch-display could be touched....even if I stop at a traffic light
Looks like we have the same problem. I'm also interested to know how to work around this.
if you don't like to se quickGPS, you could turn your phone off and on again (without entering the pin number....if you leave it off, tomtom tells you, that you are using flight-mode ) but I'd like to use quickGPS...
does nobody have an idea?
perhaps some keywords to search in the regitstry...??
up...perhaps somebody now has got any idea...
keylock is not the problem.
i bet 5$ that u have used the included headset right?
the bulky part where you connect ur earphones is the problem. the tiny switch used for accepting calls is either totaly borked or the connector itself is. i have exact the same problem. i called a mate like 20 times.
i use my phone to listen to music while i drive my motorcycle any my keypad is locked all the time. it doesnt realy matter why prog u are running.
when u press the little button short or long (cant remember) it starts calling the last person on your dial list. somehow this button seem to be pretty sesitive to movements. this also works when the keypad is locked.
so either we buy a new headset or we find teh registry entry which defines the use of this worthless button

I've been running this head unit that I purchased from ebay for almost 3 months, close but like a week away. It's kinda ok, but still kind of junky for what I paid for it. I clipped the hinges off, so the screen would stay open all the time. I didn't want the motor burning out and the screen getting stuck inside. Every time you turn your vehicle off, it shuts off, when you turn your vehicle on, it comes on. Even if you turn your key back to ACC so it stays running, as soon as you turn the vehicle on, it restarts the HU. I even tried running the red wire straight to the battery, same thing, then I attached the red to the yellow and straight out to the battery. It stayed on when the vehicle was off, but when I put the key back it and started the vehicle it would still restart the HU. It's like restarting your phone every time you used a different app. That's what it feels like any way. I'd turn off the vehicle and pull the key and leave the HU running, and then run into the store real quick, come back out and turn on the vehicle and the HU will restart.
The other issue is that it lost GPS signal almost a week ago. I've tried google maps, the system app speedometer and several other GPS apps and it's gone. I double checked the wire from the HU to the antenna on the roof and everything looks fine. I even factory reset it twice to see if that would fix the GPS.
I have contacted the seller several times about the things that are wrong with it, and they just give me one sentence replies that aren't even answers and the return period is over. Overall, it does what it's supposed to. the baked in apps work good enough. The car dvr is limited, but it works. the audio player is fine, no issues at all with it. Bluetooth and phone connections are good. I just really need GPS, that's the main reason I got it. Wifi is horrible. It will not connect to a source outside of a 5 ft. range and that's with an external antenna.
Any help or suggestions or comments, anything would be appreciated. What make and model is this HU? Is there a way to root it or to install a custom rom? Any way to fix the GPS? Thank you my friends, I really appreciate it. I've been a member of this site for many years, and I know that when you guys want to help, you will.
I love when I can stump you guys. You all think you're like know it all geniuses, but now and then I throw something at you that leaves you dumbfounded. This is one of those times. I win.

That kind of attitude isn't going to make anyone want to help you is it.
You haven't provided enough information about your unit for anyone to be able to even attempt to help you, more information is required, such as is it px3 or 5, is it mtcb or d/e. Best thing to do is take a screenshot of your about page on your device, the one that tells you the build number etc...
For your boot issue, if it's wired correctly check factory settings (pass may be 126, if not you'll have to search), somewhere in there is an option for auto power off.
GPS, try another antenna? Is the antenna inside or outside, does the GPS test app find any satellites? Is GPS enabled etc?
More info will help, the attitude won't, these forums also have a wealth of information, searching and reading thoroughly will often find you what you need. Yeah reading a 100 page thread is soul destroying but sometimes it has to be done to find what your looking for
