Woo-hoo!
I have finished the multiple hour process of doing the ROM and extended ROM upgrade!!! I am so proud of myself and had no one else to tell who would understand what the heck I meant - so I'm posting it here for my own personal pat on the back!!
Although I do think there is a need for re-writes for the BA incompetent because I accomplished this using wiki, here, and the BA standardization project yet still came across a few glitches....don't know how i figured them out but I guess after spending four days reading message boards and taking notes something must have stuck up there!! Also, it seems as if I had to piece meal the extended ROM update - which makes me hope I did it right but one of the places I downloaded it from was missing all the nbf files??
BUT....who cares now!!! I'm just excited I finally got it done. Now I can relax and have a drink or few and tomorrow start looking into the current radio update and the BT updates....but quick question....not that I am being lazy - but are they really necessary if I am not using a BT headset, and rarely use BT for anything else? After all the problems people had I just got a wired headset and can't even think about WM5.0 till they fix the sound issues for the SX66 - variable ringtones is an absolute must! Also, I rarely (like once a month) use the internet on this device so do I need the radio upgrade?
Another issue - can anyone explain why after doing hard resets active sync makes you set up a new paternership? I don't mind since it still ends up giving me all my Outlook info - but just was wondering why?
Well....off to do hubby's - hopefully his will take less time!!
THANKS to all who have contributed to XDA forums, wiki, and the BA standardization project - I couldn't have done it without your info, insight and problems you experienced!!!
not 100% sure, but I think the HR makes the thing reset everything... and... well..
I always change the name of my device...
And it tries to call itself PockePC again...
And the computer doesn't like that.
But if I change the name back to whatever it was and connect to the computer it tells me the name is in use. And that's annoying...
Before you slap that sucker back in the cradle, go to AS, FILE, Delete Partnership (you'll have about 100 from the way I read your post ) And... Well... Re-set it up using whatever name you wanted to use that it wouldn't let you.
And... if you're already doing this and are just wondering why it's necessary, look at the name of the software manufacturer and I'm certain you'll see the reason for your dificulty
Hello everyone,
I have generated this post to get some feedback from those of you who may have upgraded your BAs from WM2003SE to WM5.0. I have been following all the updates rather close. All I can say is that Mamaich and Tuatara are 2 absolute heroes in my book. The latest (for those of you who are not sure of what verison of the rom is out there) TuMa v1.3 seems to be the cream of the crop at this point.
Anywho, what I would like to get from this post is feedback on the following (all of these are to be compared to WM2003SE, so keep that in mind when replying):
*Speed of the device
*Overall stability
*Issues (other than the infamous BT disconnect). BTW, we are counting on you for this, Mamaich and Tuatara. 8)
Keep in mind that I want to try to get a good comparison between the OS's. Please remember that the point is to inform people who, very much like myself, does not know squat about programming, but has some knowledge about certain things and want to upgrade to WM5 just because he/she can Personally, my SX66 works like an absolute charm with WM2003SE, but I am really curious as of the new capabilities of WM5 (and at the same time, I do not want to turn it into a brick with a sliding keyboard--- :? . --- --- --- R.I.P. MPx200 (after attempting to upgrade to WM5)
Anyway, any feedback on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys and may xda-developers live forever!!!!
Personally, I can't see many extra features of WM5 for what I use it for. The only difference for me in all honesty is the fact WM2003 is so ugly when you've used WM5.
Bluetooth is worse, not just the d/c problems but not as feature-full as yet. I miss being able to browse peoples devices etc.
The device becomes really lagged when you use Wi-fi and Media Player
Media Player has trouble with MP3's (not actually tested with wma) for the first minute or so while it buffers.
However, saying all this, I wouldn't go back. Despite WM2003's profound ugliness, the recent TuMa 1.3 works a treat and really feels secure, even securer than I felt with WM2003. The speed is excellent too, except when using Wi-Fi or using Media Player. TuMa 1.3 is also reeeaally easy to patch to your operator, all you need to do is open a command window (Start > Run > type cmd > navigate to the folder > then SetOperator <type your operator value next to it>.
Quite frankly, if you are even slightly eager to try it, you still wont really feel content until you do despite matter what we say. Just go out and try it and you shant want to go back!
Hope this helps!

My opinion is that the Bluengel gets very slow with WM5.. I'm considering to go back to WM2003 again...

what pack 3.1????
I guess he meant v1.3. He just got it backwards, By the way, thank you all for the good feedback. Keep it coming though!!!
Hi,
The V1.3 rom is good and it's quite fast but I have had too many problems with the phone side to keep using it. These are the problems that I've peronally had which Have Forced me to go back to 2003:
1) Recieving phone calls. When some calls me it goes through to the voice mail but if they hang up and call me again it comes through.
2) Making phone calls. When I dial someone the call is immeadtly ended then I dial again and it take about 20-30s for the call to be dial and then it end the call after 1 min
3) When i run an application and close it the running tasks tells me it's still running.
These all seem to specific to my device as there are mayeb 1/2 other people with these problems(phone), one of whom has also gone back to 2003.
Just my 2 pence worth.
Thanks
satpal
I agree WM5 is cuttier and more steady. As of the new TuMa 1.3 upgrade, I've never seen my device so glad to run a ROM yet
IT'S REally feature-packed, even when I won't use all of the features. It felt very strong, stable and FAST!! (I don't notice the slowliness some others say, moreover it feels faster than with 2003), more than any other ROM I've tried to date. WOW WHAT A JOB!!
I'm having a problem with the phone where I can not get any sounds from the phone making, nor receiving calls. I can not hear or be heard using the loudspeaker. Using the Bluetooth headphone works, though. But, bluetooth is sooo weeak on this device (my impression) that for me is not really worth it. I was using a Nokia phone (80something) and the Bluetooth stack felts very strong and stable and, at the very least, you could hear the sound clearly, without the scratchs and noises I'm used to sort in a bluetooth conversation using my BA.
That's why I revert my BA to WM2003, to check if the problem was because of WM5 but, now, the problem persists, and I don't have so many other options...
Just a thought: if you wanna better Bluetooth thingie, don't go WM5: M$ stack is a crap... lacks everything...
it's definitelly worth trying... I like the usability and keyboard navigarion better... in 2k3, it is impossible to even close a simple gprs popup without touching screen where as in wm5 you can simply press right arrow key and enter to close it... there are plenty of small things which make it more usable for day to day usage
plus It gives you the courage to upgrade to a more steadier device with wm5 pre installed... like I bought universal after using BA for couple months
[edit] the WM5 version I tested was 1.3 TuMa.
My QTEK 9090 really didn't like WM5.
I love the look and feel, and particularly the MSN integration, but had to go back to 2003SE.
Do tell me if I missed anything that would fix the issues below and allow me to go back to WM5 :-
1 - SLOOOW. Some apps more than others, for example reading an SMS takes 5-6 seconds to open a 30 character message.
2 - Phone. Keypad very slow. Audio cuts out halfway through a call, seemingly at random.
The second point is what forced me to downgrade. If my smartphone is not a phone, then it's no use to me.
The last test I did with WM5 was using the 1.13 radio ROM. I've since updated it to 1.15. Has anyone seen any WM5 improvement with higher radio versions on PH20B hardware? I ask because I've been through the reflashing process so many times, I realise I am pushing my luck and will end up with a brick sooner or later.
Hi everyone! great info on this site. been lookin around for a few hours now. Ive had my Qtek9090 for almost a year now. Trying to get a grip on this whole UPGRADING the ROMs idea. which brings me to my question.
I am a firm beliver of the whole "if it aint broke, dont fix it" saying... however i would like to upgrade my PDA for legitament reasons...
I am not interested in going to MOBILE 5. from what i have gathered it has conflicts with TOMTOM NAV 5 (which i use everyday) and other conflicts that convince me otherwise.
However, my PDA does hang randomly causing me to "soft reset" and sometimes when i call people they cannot hear me but i can hear them..
I am just curious as to which upgrades specifically i need to rid of said problems.. (If the upgrades fix other "bugs" that doesnt hurt either.. but i dont want to open the door to more problems..)
Thanks in advance everyone.
P.S. - how do i get my profile to allow me to choose qtek9090 and rom dates from the drop down boxes? i added the correct info to signature box, due to the fact that i could not add it initally.
I have to say that running TomTom5 on WM5 i've had no problems since TomTom released a 5.2 patch.
The reason I went for WM5 was very simular to the problems you are having, random lockups and sometimes if I answered a call I could hear someone but they couldnt hear me. Since going to WM5 I haven't had any problems with these two issues. The only thing that WM5 has that bugs me is the slow keyboard, which a simple overclocking can fix (which Blue Angels are designed to do)
Do you know what ROM you are on at the moment? If you goto 'Start -> Settings -> Device Information' then you can get all the versions, copy them here and I guess peeps will be able to tell you what can be upgraded.
Duh! Signature...
hehe
LOL @ signature! agagag. hmm im actually scared of going to wm5. but huh who knows.. i would really rather avoid it tho... How is that new patch for tomtom? what does it fix? thanks for the quick answer.
radio rom
You might try updating your radio rom to 1.15
Greetings vastloper
Well before the patch I couldn't even install TomTom5!
The trick is to download the update BEFORE trying to install TomTom5. If you unzip the update package (WinRAR does it) then insert your TomTom installation CD without autorun, then in the folder you unziped run the "setup.exe" program. Hay presto it all works.
It's even simpler then I make it sound.
And yeah, Radio Upgrade if nothing else should fix a couple of problems. I think you have to do a hard reset anyway for the radio update, but if your BA keeps locking up I'd make sure you do one.
thanks for the info
thanks for the info guys... yea i did something stupid last night. i tried to do that VGA hack, and it ended up not working and screwing up my file explorer? any ideas on how to remove it? ive been messin with it and i got tot he point where its "GOOD AS IS" and i deleted the files.. whats teh file called so i can look in the FTP downloads for the 1.15 RADIO UPDATE.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=BA_Radio_1.15_Upgrade
Not only do you get the file, but full instructions on how to install it.
On the same page is a link to the old versions, so if for somereason you don't like the 1.15 Radio ROM you can just downgrade again. In fact the same goes for WM5.
thanks
hey thanks alot bro. Ill give the upgrade a shot.
I am more interested in vastloper because he has or had the same QTEK 9090 as i did. and im just curious as to how your current ROM is? stable? anything ya dont like about it??
well guys updated to the 1.5 RADIO ROM after reading the whole thread... had some probs with installation but thanks to the INFO on the site i managed to get through it... however i did lose my MP3 sound. and could not find an answer to it so far.. anyone got an idea?
1 person mentioned he had the same problem. but everyone else didnt.
update
did some trouble shooting and narrowed it down to media player i think. If i do a soft reset, and load an MP3 from PDA HD, it works. but when i close media player, all my sound cuts out!! even basic windows tones.
the sound will work while playing the MP3, even when i use the pause button, But its only after i close MEDIA PLAYER all my sound stops working. Any ideas?
found a ref to the exact same problem.

i duno if theres a fix... Thinking about going to Tmobile 1.42 im going to bed ive been reading for 10 hrs straight and its 7 am.
Hi all,
I have been reading XDA for days and there is a lot of info. Wow!
Still, I am stumped and hope someone can point me to a noob thread that simply explains how to get the HT820 to work with the Cingular 8125. I recently bought one and it's a G3 version. It is set up to get push email (MS Outlook) from corporate (don't want to disable that). In fact, I really don't want to install anything extra or change anything except making it work with the HT820's.
I did unlock and CID unlock it with lokiwiz02b. I just can't determine specifically what I should do and which ROM I should use to just enable the BT stereo audio.
I thought is was as simple as loading an A2DP profile but dangit......is that a part of a ROM or a stand-alone update?
Thanks in advance,
swjtx
I'm getting there...
I know people hate answering the same question a thousand times and it seems likely that my questions have been answered time and again on this forum, but really, it's taking hours and hours sifting through all posts and replies. I'm also looking at info posted way back in Apr/May wondering if any of that good work is now old hat.
More reading turned up this thread where where Shogun answered part of my question.

Now....how do you install a .cab file? That question was asked but not answered in the other thread.
.....and so this isn't really a different ROM? so I didn't have to unlock the phone?
Thanks,

Making progress...
So I took a little break from this and while I was watching the Giants thrash the Bucs, it came to me. When I used Lokiwiz to unlock my phone, part of the procedure was to copy the .cab file included in the zip to my phone and execute it. Now everyone is thinking "what a big dummy" right?
So I copied it over, found it with file explorer and tapped on it with the stylus. It asked me where to install (device or storage card?). I chose device. It then said it installed successfully and that it may not display properly cuz it was designed for a previous version of Windows Mobile software....hmm....well anyways....now to test.
I decided to do a soft restart (dunno why....seems like a reboot is almost always a requirement on a PC after installing and program and this is still Windows after all).
Then I go to settings\bluetooth and pair new device.
I turn on the HT820 and continue holding down the power on button for about 6 seconds to get it into pairing mode and the phone recognizes it! The phone asks for a pass key.....and I haven't got a clue so I try 0000. Seems to work....now to play an mp3...
First up: AC/DC If you want blood, you've got it. Yes, it worked!! I left the phone by the PC and walked out into the garage and major skips/blank spots all throughout the song. Maybe I am just getting too far away? It's maybe 15 to 20 feet through a few walls. Ok, next up: AC/DC Girls got Rythym. This time, I'll stay close to the phone. Nice! Almost 3/4 of the way through and no skips!!.
The HT820 bought from Newegg.com and doesn't appear to be one of the Asian knock-offs described in other posts in this forum (see guys and gals, I really have been reading).
Alrighty!! Made it all the way through that song and no skips! Next up: AC/DC Jail Break. Look Ma! No Skips!! How about AC/DC It's a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll.
Bliss. Thanks to Shogun for the file in his answer to a previous noob post. I might want to do other things to the phone later (change splash, play with other ROMS, Radio's, etc.) but this gets me by today with wireless tuneage!!!. Haven't tried answering calls etc. Next thing to do is get all the rest of my Bon Scott era AC/DC copied over. Why oh why would anyone ever want to listen to anything else!!

Awesome....I installed the .cab file off the other thread. Didnt think about rebooting. That was the extra step I needed.
I installed it on the storage card and it is working fine. Thanks guys. I joined the forum just to get into the threads after buying the headset today. I was disappointed after buying the headphones (HT820). Getting them home and it not working with the 8125.
Nice work!!
Another Shogun fan here. I just installed your .cab file to my storage card and had no trouble pairing up an old set of logitech bluetooth cans. I think I'll look into the HT820's as I'd like to have the ability to talk in between songs.
Thanks to you and to all the wonderful people here. I can't tell you how much I admire your skills when it comes to enhancing these toys...er tools (former Dell Axim user too). This site has provided so much info and has made this phone really sing.
so when thing i could never fix was the skipping problem.. since then i have changed phones to the 8525/hermes.. there was some work done over on the hermes thread that we fixed the skipping problem.. you might want to check it out
here is the thread i made on the wizard board for it

Hi everyone, im def a noob and have summarized a few questions which i cant find answers after extensive research for past 2 weeks, so any help will be appriciated!!!
1- The new "rom upgrade" released for at&t tilt 2 comes with the radio ending in .95 but i get horrible reception everywhere i go. I somehow stumbled upon htc europe radio ending in .17 and i get great reception but the problem is the phone itself becomes unusable due to the change in the htc sense. My question is.........
A-is there a way to put the radio i want but run the the new os?
B-is anyone else from NY area using a radio which gives great reception?
C-which is the best radio to use in my area?
2- I downloaded whole bunch of cooked rom's for the tilt 2(e.g., cookie gtx themed) then unpacked the .rar file and then i double click on the file and.....nothing? absolutely nothing happens, firewall and everything else is off, but nothing starts on the screen and yes my phone is connected via active sync and i did the hardspl thing, can anyone shed some light on this?
3- I have probably tried 3 different apps to disable "sms sent" notification, butt the damn thing doesnt go away, what do i do? and i read sumthing bout registry change but i dont even know where to start!
4- this is more of a request, if you guys can recommend me a fast & slick ROM with the best possible radio for ny area and looks cool as s*** then that would be appriciated.
Thanks guys and sorry for being the typical noob!!
Hmmmmm. Wrong section, this is G1 section
