When I briefly press the side button on the TytnII it turns off the screen. If I have a GPS program running at the time it also disabled the GPS and the GPS logging stops. I want eo be able to have a GPS logging running all the time for geo-caching but the GPS keeps turning off. Is there any way to stop the GPS turning of while the screen is off ?
No, but you can do a different trick. Get AE Button Plus (which allows you to assign hotkeys to the hardware buttons more so than the OS will), and assign a button to first Disable Standby Mode, then another button to turn off the screen. I have the PTT button assigned as a double-click to disable the Standby mode, then a triple-click will turn off the screen. This keeps the unit active and the GPS running, but stops the screen from draining your battery so much and it's not touch sensitive at that point. It works well, though you may consider getting a bluetooth GPS unit if you're doing a lot of geocaching, because a Sirf III GPS chip is much more accurate than what is built into the Kaiser. The GlobalSat BT-338 is what i have, and is apparently one of the better ones.
is there a program out there that will disablle all the hardware buttons except the power button while the screen is off?
Thanks snooginsguy. Your solution sounds like a workable one. What amount of battery life do you find you get when screen is off and standby mode is disabled ?

I was under the impression that Kaiser does have internal Sirf Star III unit?
Not to my knowledge, it has a qualcomm chip (I know, that's the processor too) that is not as good as a Sirf Star III. I may be wrong about that, but pretty sure that's true. Also, @tytn2user, if I turn off my screen as described, I've used it for 5-6 hours running the GPS and GPSTuner together, and still had about half the battery left, so it's not bad.
I have found the built in chipset to be amazing and have had no problems at all..
I have been testing my current BT gps with a nemerix(sp) chipset in it vers the internal one and the internal one is a lot better. Not as good as a SirfIII but still close. Will do for my geotagging needs.
Well S2U2 fixs it all up. No need to aus AEB either.
Unit locks itself, Backlight goes, GPS keeps running. Perfect.

Probably a simple question but I use a GPS Golf program on my ATT Tilt. Between shots the power goes off on the Tilt and when I turn it back on the the main power button it goes to the home screen instead of resuming the application. It is driving me nuts. I suppose this is how it is supposed to work but is there a way so to have it resume where you left off in an application when you turn on the tilt with the power button?
Thanks

Try to disable the "Today Timeout" option in the the Today settings!!
Ciao
I have been playing around with the power setting so it doesn't go off so quickly, but there are still times I need it to resume where I left off on the phone when I use the power button. Seems odd that there doesn't seem to be a choice to just resume when powered on and not just go to the home screen... Any other ideas?
If you don't mind sharing...what is the name of this GPS Golf software? Thanks!!
Not at all. It is truly a great application that incorporates keeping score for all players in your group, side bets, GPS and shot tracking. It also has a desktop software to sync with. The name is it is Intelligolf. You can learn all about it at their website at http://intelligolf.com .
What really sold me on the tilt was the GPS. I purchased the Garmin XT software so my Tilt is my Garmin GPS for my car and is also my GPS golf device as well. Intelligolf offers course downloads for free. If the course you play is not listed you have to mark the points yourself which is very easy or you can do it via Googlemaps.
Very cool.

I was hoping it would give a picture of the hole. We have a golf course here with GPS in the carts, and it gives you pictures of the holes so you know exactly where everything is.
Unfortunately it does not. This one shows you the distance from where you are to all the points marked such as front-middle-back of green, sand traps and other hazards, etc... I at first wanted to see the actual layout of the course as well then saw the cost is very high on those kind of units. You have to purchase the unit and most of them charge to download each course (seems like some were $19.95 per course). Depending on how accurately you have marked the courses you play, it works just as well IMHO. I do love knowing exact yardage and the tilt seems to do this very well and locks in fairly quickly most of the time.

Well, I found a solution to my problem. I have SPB shell 2.0 on my tilt and in it there is an option for when you turn the power on. You can have it open to the now screen or not... I don't think there is an option in the default today screen for this..

Hi,
When im using TrackMe, Run.GPS or other GPS programs, i hate having the Diamond on because of the power consumption, so is there anyway to get it to standby mode without it self disconnecting from the GPS?
I've tried manually to push the on/off button so it goes to standby however it loses the gps signals.
I think you can use an application like psShutXP to just switch the display off but keep everything running as if it was on. Is the same trick some people use to listen music with the screen off.
Thanks i will try it later today.
I read some other post about the bluetooth is most likely to consume less power than the internal GPS. (Have an external HoluxSlim240).
And i found out that Nokia had this program Nokia Energy Profiler, so is there a program for the same purpose to the Diamond?
I use my GPS a lot and I want my GPS to be running in the background while it track logs. I am not the only person who needs the GPS to not go to sleep so there must be someone else who has found a good solution.
First I tried S2U with a option to not go into sleep mode selected. This work well but I have to have S2U launch of a hardware button and also had to slide after waking it up.
Then I started using AE button plus. Set on of my unused side buttons to turn off screen with single press. This was the best solution I found except it has made taking pictures very buggy.
So has anyone found a good solution to keep the GPS on while the screen is off keeping power consumption down ?

GPS on and Power down are contradictory... I measured that the GPS uses 120mA to run.
Anywho, PhoneAlarm will do it for me. I have a GPS Tracking profile (a day and a night one actually) and the phone never turns off when I have it set to those. Gotta be careful with it though, if you forget to disable it you'll find a hot phone with a low battery in your pocket later.
Have you tried to just set the settings to do it? It's not automated, but it's free. There was a thread on a program called BikeMobile which the author describes how to modify the registry to NOT allow the phone to go to sleep when a certain com port is active. I never quite grokked it, but perhaps you will. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387262
Thats going to be a nice and toastie phone all day.
Thanks khaytsus. I will try out PhoneAlarm and see how I go. I found the phone to be drawing only about 45ma when my screen was off. Just trying to find a rom to suit my needs at the moment. When I find one I will start to try to find a solution.
There are many programs like "trackme" which can log GPS and switch off screen for you. There are some standalone programs like "BlackMe" which can switch off just the screen and lock phone for you.

Try asking on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=424423
Anywho, yes, suspending (power button) will turn off the built-in GPS, and I think even bluetooth GPS. TrackMe will just turn off the screen, the phone itself stays on, and it'll keep tracking as long as the phone doesn't turn itself off.
I use PhoneAlarm to set the suspend time to disabled, turns up the backlight, turns up notifications, and runs TrackMe in a "GPS Tracking" profile, so I just change profiles and go.
I suppose more GPS Tracking programs are not a bad idea, just... eh.. Duplication I guess.
I already made a thread about the backlight, but it seems that I only have that problem while using Tomtom.
If I use tomtom without external power, the screen blanks after 30 seconds, or whatever setting is used in the energy settings of the TD2.
When driving on external power, the screen goes blank after 30 minutes (the maximum of the settings if the TD2 isn't used.
On my diamond 1, the diamond recognized tomtom as an active application, hence the screen would stay on, until the battery was empty.
Weird thing is: if I use Coreplayer, the screen does stay on, so the TD2 recognizes Coreplayer as an active application.
More people with this problem? I have the latest official HTC rom (Dutch). Did multiple hard-resets and multiple installations of TT7 (7.910 and 7.915 versions). With or without audio-fix; no matter what: screen blanks....
Touch Incall Tweak ?
maybe is the Touch Incall tweak the solution for you? You can then manually enable backlight settings:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=488991!:
Hope this works for you, did it for me.
Unfortunately, it did not. I installed the app, did a soft reset and saw that TomTom was one of the applications on the list.
However, after the same period the screen went blank again. As far as I understand it, the applications on that list are the apps that should prevent the screen blanking out, when a call is coming in. But using tomtom, not always a call comes in..
So, how did you manage to get it working then..??
Honoustly I don't know. I remember I had the same problem but after a while the screen doesn't switch off anymore.
I always have the TD2 power connected when navigating and in the settings tab-more-system-energy-advanced tab you can control the lighting settings and time outs.
Must say that I downgraded to Tomtom 7.910.9185 caus' it should work a little better... I still have the big lag and slow screen refreshing problem though.
For navigating I use Nav'n go Igo (8.3.2.80621) now. Has a lag also but works better and more stable. And uses maps of 10-3-2009!
What version are you using?
TT 7.915.9196, but tried the .9185 also, but seemed to me that that version gave a little more lag than the newest. Newest is stable; the point of the arrow is the point that my car is, so thats ok with me.
Last thing seems that on car power the tt stays on now, but on battery power still disables the screen. Both versions, with or without the audio-fix, with or without the tweak.
O and I upgraded to the latest rom; no result either.
