Im assuming if this is possible it would have to be done with a registry editor. My list of installed programs is piling up. Sometimes I cant stand how the program is named in the uninstall scroll box and somtimes I cant tell what program is what. I am wondering if you can rename a value in the registry to "clean up" the installed programs list.
Easy Mate... if you are not comfortable with registry editor then use SK Tools to remove the program name from uninstall list...
OR
Use some registry editor and goto
HKLM/SECURITY/APPINSTALL
and then remove or rename the specific entry....
whatever u like...

Thats all I needed! thanks. I was in HKLM/SOFTWARE/APPS which didnt change it... thanks!
I know this thread is rather old but I have a related issue.
I tried to install Dotfreds TaskManager which however does not work on the HTC S740 (Rose). It also does not uninstall from the Remove Programs list. So I removed everything manually, including the entry under HKLM/SECURITY/APPINSTALL
However, the program is still listed in the Remove Programs function. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

I am facing the same problem. Removed everything in HKLM/SECURITY/APPINSTALL but the program still remains in Remove Program list. I've removed the program manually, though. What could be wrong ?

The program I like to remove is minimo (mozilla for PPC's)
Thanks!

Try....
Start > Settings > System > Remove Programs.
This should do what you are after.
my dear friend thats the problem....by doing any of the above i cannot uninstall any programmes ...it say cant remove programmes but do u delet it from your list of removable progrrames...funny
Same here. Minimo would not uninstall
went to remove prog. it said it did but all it did was remove it from the remove programs list.
Hard reset here we go. Pocket mechanic was the same for me.
It's ok when you exactly know where the program is installed - you should simply delete its files. But how can I upgrade to .NET CF 2.0?
Installer can't remove previous version and I can't delete files manually cause I don't know what files to delete :-(
I've had the same problem trying to remove minimo and the Atomic Cannons Demo. :? So far these are the only items I have tried to uninstall. I just deleted the folders and shortcuts, but I'd rather figure out what's causing the problem!
Running the QTek test ROM (WWE) on a US Tmo MDA.
I also have that. however most of the time it works for me to soft-reset and then remove. for some reason that works (for me)
I would recommend a soft reset just prior to removing software from a WM5 PPC. WM5 only minimises most programs instead of closing them when you click the X so the application stays open therefore files are still in use which prevents a successful removal.
Even if the progam has been closed by Start>Settings>System>Memory>Running Programs or a task manager like in SPB Pocket Plus there is a chance that there are still associated files locked open unless a soft reset is done before uninstall. Windows Applications on the desktop will normally prompt for a restart after uninstall if files were in use however it looks like the majority of Windows Mobile apps (or Windows itself) dont have the same functionality (some Mobile apps do prompt for restart but not very many).
Also, apps with today screen plugins should be disabled, before a soft reset then uninstall the app as WM seems to lock the files open when active on today screen as well.
I havent had the uninstall error once since i have done a soft reset before uninstalling any software, hopefully others will have the same success. I know this wont apply to every situation but so far so good for me.
Cheers
Chris
Puckster is right.Run your task manager to see all runing programs and close them before trying to uninstall or simply soft reset prior to uninstall. It works without a flaw.

Using WinRAR or a similar application, uncompress the cab you originally installed, look at _setup.xml or the .000 file and delete the registry keys / files specified there. Soft reset for posterity.
Hope this helps!

Hi dude
In SKTools what are your "Installed Programs" settings??
Try to set the options like this:
2) - Do not use Setup.dll -> No (default)
- Allow risky operatios -> Yes
- Forced files and folders deletion -> Yes
- Exclude strings -> windows\.... (default)
than reinstall the Cube, soft-reset, uninstall using SK, soft-reset and look for it in the SK Install app
2) if 1) still doesn't work try to set also the last option:
- Exclude strings -> (nothing, delete all)
than reinstall the Cube, soft-reset, uninstall using SK, soft-reset and look for it.
However, after the whole operation set again the SK Install options to default (or you can allow the "Forced files and folders deletion", like for my usual option), expecially the "Exclude strings" one!!
Let me know!!
Ciao
guys, thanks for help, but none of the methods works, the HTC Biotouch still there, I've had no idea.anyway, still thanks for help.

Ok,concerning SKTools (what version??), did you well follow all my steps above-mentioned??
Than, i can understand that SKTools doesn't work but "Alex" said you how to manually delete it, so what's the problem in this way??
I add that some files could be hidde/system, so you need a 3rd party explorer software, like Resco Explorer, to see and delete!!!
Hope to help you!
hi. I have the following "issue". I can not remove from the list of WM some applications. I explain. I uninstalled Alen-software Quick Menu .... I removed the remaining directories ..... I looked in the register and I erased every item left by the software....
SKtools doesn't show the application as present (files to uninstall)...
but if I go on WM settings-system-uninstall applications the software seems installed....
if I click on "remove" it says that program is to be uninstalled , etc. continue?
at "yes" it says "removing Alen-Software quickmenu not complete. Remove from the list of applications installed?
If I click on " yes " it seems to complete the action, but even after soft reset everything remains as before ... the program is not installed ....no key is present in the registry....... but .....
any suggestion?
PS: the same with "Prodson Hologram" ... :-(
Thanx and sorry for my english
hi
im not familiar with this program - but have a look using file explorer and see if you have anything in your programs folder, if nothing there have a look in the windows/strttup folder
thanx for the answer. No, nothing in folder and windows startup
If the only issue is that the program still appears in the Installed Program List and you don't want it to be there(assuming it is uninstalled), you can try the following steps to remove the registry entry corresponding to that program name.
‘AppInstall’ holds the list of installed programs. The exact location of this registry key is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\AppInstall
Find if there is still an entry for the program under AppInstall, and delete.
Soft Reset and see if it works.
there's nothing in that key...... (regarding uninstalled programs)
Whose ROM are you using? I have has similar histories but with different devices.
Regards,
Carty..
ROM is 1.93. But I have found solution: in SK tools is present "Bad/Old Uninstall Info": launch it and resolve!

Hello.
Could you please give me detailed info on how you did this?
I have SK Tools v4.4.6. I changed the main settings from :
Tools --> Settings --> Automation --> Bad/Old Uninstall Info
to 'Use in Auto Mode'.
But when I perform a CleanUp, the invalid entry is not displayed, nor it does in the Uninstall List.
Is that what you did and made it work or something else?
Thanx!
I have a stock HTC Touch Diamond. I am wanting to remove the apps I don't use like Messenger and some others. I tried through ActiveSync but because they are built into the ROM they do not show up. Is there an app or something I can use to remove these?
Thanks

SKTools will allow you to remove apps that are installed on your device that don't show up in the Remove Programs part of Settings.
Also, you could hard reset your device and soft reset before customizations run and then install only the apps that you want.
Or, use activesync and browse to Windows-Start Menu-Programs and delete the program shortcuts that you don't want to see. Though with this option all you are doing is removing the program shortcut the program files are still there.
I tried SKTools but under the installed programs section it only shows the ones I have installed. I wanted to remove the likes of WLM, YouTube etc. I ripped all the ROM data (following one of the tutorials, so I have 4 RAW files but not sure how to combine them back to an NBH file so I can edit them in a kitchen to remove what I don't want.)
Ok well I managed to reconstruct the ROM but I have no idea how successful I actually was at doing such. I followed the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337066. I really want to put this ROM on the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622093 but I am afraid that if I screw up the flashing and my reconstructing of the stock ROM didn't work that I would be screwed. Any suggestions? Also my provider doesn't make the ROM available and neither does HTC (for Rogers that is).
In SKTools if you go to the Installed Programs Section click on the right softkey and select settings.
Then scroll down to "Show Applications Not Listed As Installed." Change the setting to Yes.
Maybe then you can remove what you want.
Also, you can use the Move Data part to move files, folders, and applications to Internal Storage to free up space.
Believe it or not but that is not an option under settings that will show Applications not listed as Installed... running SKTools 4.5.1.4.
Scratch that. I found it

it usually shouldnt happen that way. was there any message stating that the uninstall was unsuccessful? perhaps u can soft-reset your phone and recheck your software list to see if its listed there
if u wanna uninstall it, and the file is still not there, try to locate the file in ur phone memory by browsing through the system folder. deleting the file there should be as good as removing the program. however it is a very unconventional method of doing it. anybody else has any thoughts?

well what u can do is try remove everything. the icon and everything. and try to install another keyboard. a htc keyboard or touch keyboard perhaps? or u could try to locate a .cab for finger keyboard on the forums and install it if you dont wanna remove anything from ur program files.
