Emulators on the Kaiser - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello all.
I'm currently trying to find some new games for my Kaiser, and would love to play some emulators.
What I'm after are emulators that run at full speed (if possible) in landscape mode. Any ideas?
My M600i that is nearly 2 years old could play Megadrive at 100% speed WITH sound on a 250mhz processor: I hope the Kaiser can at least match that without the drivers
Thanks!

The original MC68000 was fabricated using an HMOS process with a 3.5-micron feature size. Initial engineering samples were released in late 1979. Production chips were available in 1980, with initial speed grades of 4, 6, and 8 MHz. 10 MHz chips became available during 1981, and 12.5 MHz chips during 1982. The 16.67 MHz "12F" version of the MC68000, the fastest version of the original HMOS chip, was not produced until the late 1980s.

You emulated a 10Mhz processor on a 250Mhz Processor, whoop-de-do

And my phone with a 400mhz processor can't. At least, not with the ones I've tried. Like I said: any ideas?

Until we get proper drivers, emulation will suffer on Kaiser. So far, the only system I've been able to get full speed and sound emulation out of is Gameboy via MorphGear.

Pocketnester is what I use. It works fine for me, although there is no support for landscape mode.

Thought that was the case. It's a shame. The GP2X can emulate more than us in 2D, with a slower processor. As did the M600i.
*sigh*
Oh well. I'm going to bite the bullet and get me a P1i I think. Luckily Mum needs a new phone (took her Atom for a swim).

Morphgear is probably the best one out there.

Anybody got a ink to Morphgear?

PocketNester does support landscape mode.
Just go to Options -> Graphics and turn off GAPI.

graphics better...so what..?

hi all,
I read the review of the kaiser and wondered whether the better graphics really make a difference.
Can anyone explain the difference to me?
Thanks
Sam.
The difference is that they will be better (!)
So for instance, if you have a Hermes you'll almost certainly have experienced slowdown while watching videos or playing games which will (hopefully) be a thing of the past with the Kaiser.
Even if it still isn't perfect (and what is?) it should at least be a significant improvement...

Yeah I thought the Hermes had bad video rendering. I was all like, "Sweet a 400mhz proc now I can watch video flawlessly". Not so. I think my Wizard did video slightly better then the Hermes. OC'd that is...

well hey take a look at these benchmark results.
it shows HUGE improvement. 6 times better graphics. that includes gaming and video.
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=256117&st=20
the graphics improvements only help if the app was written with the qualcomm gpu in mind...all the older apps run slow gfx wise unless they use GDI
I really don't watch much video, but I HATE my Hermes taking FOREVER to switch from portrait to landscape (and back, especially when I miss calls because my pouch magnet makes it switch, then it has to switch back, and then load the phone app, then the call is gone!!). Watching the online video review the switching seemed faster, but far from instananeous.

well im happy to quote from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1394910&posted=1#post1394910
that it takes only .5 seconds for the keyboard screen rotation.
i will know if the graphics are better.
I put my text in the smallest view it has,
and when its changed to landscape mode,
we will see if the graphics are better,
and not that it really matters to me.
As far as I have looked on benchmarks, the Qualcomm CPU @ 400MHz is some 10-20% better than a Samsung @400 MHz (TyTN), Which in turn is arond 20% better than a Xscale 270 @ 400MHz... That means that the Qualcomm can be considered to have performace close to 600MHz of a XScale CPU... At least as far as the benchmarks available from several sources tell us. Now, if it really has that 128MB of RAM, then it will be really really interesting, and the first thing XDA folks would do, of course, would be to pump up the page pool to try to eke out a little bit of extra performance...

you sure its only 10-20%? i mean they were saying it's 6 times better than the 8525's graphical index.
Performance comparison to 8525
I was wondering if anyone knew if the OS played a part in the 8525 vs 8925 comparison at http://www.modaco.com/HTC-Kaiser-hands-review-t256117.html&st=20?
Could be a factor for some of the performance boost?
I am interested in the extra memory and the built in GPS. (I hope the battery will last with all the bells and whistles!)

hey i started that thread on modaco!
yes the OS plays a small part in performance boost, wm6 is generally faster than wm5, but the main thing is the Qualcomm chip boosting the peformance.

Kaser overclock

Which software to use?
In my humble opinion: None......for the Qualcomm there is no software availalble to overclock it....but in time it will come...
try this out guys. application specific.
All this seems to be doing is to change the priority of the threads running certain applications. It does not overclock the CPU like OMAP did.
anyway does this work?
or its like the sktools optimization?
Any progress out there on a safe program to overclock a Kaiser? WM6 is definitely faster than WM5, but alot slower than my old Palm OS Treos.
thanks,
d
I'm also waiting for a piece of software that will allow me to overclock my Kaiser, but still there is no progress at all. As they say - patience is gods' virtue (-:
has anyone tried htc performance?
I believe I read helmi had a hand in creating it???I know this has been used on a few different devices and is very low on batti draw but no one quite knows how it works.Really makes a difference on my device but Im not sure if it would be safe to use or even work with the proccessor on the kaiser.
With the battery life as borderline as it is with the Tilt/Kaiser, I'd shy away from overclocking. You'll get lightening fast speed for the 5 minutes of battery life
ya but...
ya but... with the video drivers we're missing and an overclocker the phone would be lightning quick. Also I was reading that the reality is with the right programmers the next gen phones kaiser , dream and a few others a playstation 2 emulator on the ppc would be possible. imagine being on a plane cut off 3g and phone functions and play ps2 games on your phone. plus with extended and/or extra batteries that are now becoming available...
I do not see the logic. The Kaiser is so fast and has so much memory, why would you risk bricking or prematurely damaging your phone? Just my opinion

Glad to learn that my Kaiser is so fast ! I guess you don't use games or heavy graphical applications, because then you would see that the Kaiser is not faster than an HTC Prophet wich is overclocked at only 240 Mhz ! (380 Mhz for the Kaiser...). Also if you want to play VGA videos, the speed is not good enough (wich it should be if you look at the Qualcomm processors capabilities, but as everyone know here, HTC did'nt make the drivers for that).
I am very disapointed by the fact the Kaiser is not a VGA device, but even more disapointed when you see that it is not even faster than a VGA device !!! So at this low speed, where is the interest of having a QVGA screen compared to VGA ?
Definitly, an overclocker tool may help me to consider keeping my Kaiser (even if I think that at this device price, it's a shame to be obliged to overclock it to have a decent speed ...).
The prophet is slower in my opinion, I don't own a Kaiser, but whenever i use it everything happens faster than on my overclocked WM6 Prophet (overclocked to 286MHz normally).
How does the speed compare to the TyTN, mine should be here on Wednesday... I can't wait!
someone found a tool that really works ?
WOW! and I thought we had enough problem threads on here with overheat and battery deaths!
Look out for many more!!
I upgraded to kaiser from a Tmob Wing, for that I played with an overclocker called Fl0wt. Which did seem to work BUT the battery becames a flamethrower of heat and the battery life was sucked away in no time. this wasnt a big clock speed step either. The parts just arnt suited for the additional heat it seems. plus it felt dangerously hot...like "hit the dirt its going to blow" hot. not worth the risk in my oppinion...but hey thats just me
Can you post a link to "Fl0wt" ive searched far and wide and found nothing. Please post a link.
Cheers !

I beg to differ.
I play LOTS n LOTS of games on my TyTN II AND I watch full feature movies and I use Outlook AND I use GPS AND I use internet (Netfront v3.5) and I have yet to find a speed problem as mentioned in this here cheese and whine forum.
Some of the games I have on my TyTN II are:
Cybersaurus
Warfare Inc
Machines at War
Bejeweled 2
Zuma
Ackys XP Breakout
Shattered Worlds
Call of Duty 2
Darxide EMP
gfDoom
Fast Future Race
G-Prime Extreme
Interstellar Flames
Skyforce Reloaded
Quake & Quake 2
Sinbad Return of the Legends
Flux Challenge
Is this a good enough sample for you?
THE KAISER NEVER CLAIMED TO BE A VGA DEVICE. IT IS STRICTLY QVGA....NOW GET OVER IT!!!
I am starting to believe that AT&T roms are fraught with problems.
I don't have that problem here in SA.
My TyTN 2 is MUCH faster than my iMate KJam....MUCH MUCH FASTER!!!
So I don't know what you are referring to.

I have an T-mobile Kaiser and it's definitely not much faster than a Magician. The difference is really, really small.
And we're referring to the fact that there are no drivers for the ATI Imageon hardware. Thanks to this, everything needs to be rendered by the CPU.

Poor Gameplay with 2d games

Hi,
Has anyone else experienced poor/jerky gameplay with kaiser?
Seems to run fine for everything else but has trouble with the following games:
VT Pocket Tennis (old i know).
Pool Rebel
Seems slightly sluggish (although acceptable) with some of the other games in comparison to my tytn.
Can anyone make any suggestions for tweaks/tests?
Thanks

if they are old games that could be the reason why, it doesn have support for GDI i think it is. have you tryed any emulators? GBA for example?
www.sunbug.net
Thanks for the speedy reply!
Pool Rebel is a new release but is still very sluggish. I have contacted their support team as it may just be that the game is not optimised for the cpu.
VT pocket tennis was designed for PPC2002! Used to work very well on my TYTN but is virtually unplayable on TYTN II.
Will I be able to use the emulator on games designed for PPC?
I'm not sure what is the problem, but I can comfirm that the graphic chipset integrated in MSM7200 is one of ATI Imageon product.
http://brew.qualcomm.com/bnry_brew/pdf/brew_2007/Tech-303_Ligon.pdf
http://www.cdmatech.com/download_library/pdf/3dgaming_brochure.pdf
from the data sheet, the performance should be said as good, so perhaps the new graphic chipset is not supported?
Maybe HTC has disabled most of the Video chipset functionality, they have a habit of disabling everything before launch! *Shakes fist*
It does also look like the graphic chipset has 3d hardware support but so far you cant take adventage of it with direct3d because it only has referance drivers which doesnt use any of the hardware. But once HTC releases drivers that take advantage of this hardware it should be one kick butt gaming device...

this is not because it has poor graphics or has trouble playing it, it's cause PocketSnes hasnt been updated in such a long time it doesnt even support the phone completely or support teh GFX driver. however, have you tried Morphgear?

Yeah, I tried pool rebel too ... and damn, it is so slow
Any reply from their support?
Btw, any good game for this Kaiser? The one that is nice and fast.
Support have replied. They will be adding Direct X support for the game in future release although have not specified when. That should hopefully improve performance. I have tried the following games and they work well:
Flux Challenge
Sky Force
Sky Force Reloaded
Resco Guardians
Anthelion 2
Argentum
Explode Arena
KRally
Snails
SPB AirIslands
Stolen In 60 Seconds

PSX - Playstation 1 on Diamond - with FPSECE

Hi,
i don't know if everybody knows, you can play PSX 1 games on the PockePC devices...
Diamond has a fast Processor VGA Screen so thats good conditions too play games... the bad ones are the missing buttons... but with FPSEce there is also a onscreen Controller so that should not be the problem...
Heres the offical Homepage:
http://www.fpsece.net/
i prefer to use the .96 Beta from Forum!!
heres a vid of running ff7 on a pocketpc:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OTulLVj3Ww
i'm totally impressed with the psx bt controller... i didn't saw/or know that such things exist... so you dont need hardware buttons
i have testet FF7 today too but i don't get it too run...
the Bios starts well.. FPS over 100... but after that noting happens...
i have tryed different img what i could found for download... my original ff7 cd is lost somewhere... so i can't try to rip it off by my self... maybe someone can try this... (Should be done with alcohol as i read somewhere because all other destroys the images to work with the emu...)
any news for this emulator?
COOL! could you add G-sensor support to this? say to press the center button and then use the g-sensor to detect motion and control the direction?
PS2 games me ay also possibly be playable on the diamond,
Remember the Diamond has a 528 MHz processor, while the PS2 has only 294MHz processor
specs at:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_2
sorry.. if u are saying the diamond is faster than a ps2.. its not.. the processor speed is simply not the same
for e.g.
1ghz on pentium and 1ghz on pentium 4 with HT.. which is faster? de latter rite...
plus ps2 has a well powered GPU.. diamond has a dedicated video chip but its not v powerful.. merely for touchflo 3D...
try installing pocket pc games like tony hawkk pro skater 2 which was also released on the ps1 and u know wad im toking about.. even with hardware acceleration the game isnt as smooth as playing on the ps1 itself..
actually
actually yes and no to a few people above me
the ps2 actually has 2 cpus a 299mhz cpu and a 150mhz co-processor
these would be the hardest to emulate the 299mhz cpu is actually the easy one the 150mhz cpu is a vector (floating point) cpu which arm cpus (like the diamonds) do very slowly however the graphics card is a 16 pipe 147mhz 4mb graphics card which belive it or not we have more power than (the diamond has a 333mhz 12 pipe gfx card with 16mb of faster ram) but the problem is that there is no driver for the card on the diamond for developers like me to use.
so the short story is yes it is doable even at 30fps if they could use the gfx card to emulate the co-processor but it would take a lot of development time and skills to do and some help from HTC to do it in a relistic time...
In my experience, you need a CPU with at least 10 times the clock speed of the chip you're trying to emulate, unfortunately. That's before you take dedicated graphics processors etc. into account. It will be a good while before we see PS2 games being run on phones.
i managed to get destruction derby working on my trinity at ~24 fps which slowed down to 13 fps when you touched the screen. i am sure the diamond could do better

yup, the infamous touchscreen cpuusage bug HTC hasn't been bothered fixing for 2.5 years...
I've tried the emulator with... Tekken 3 . Just 12-13 fps in portrait mode, so it works but not playable. If you try it in landscape mode, it doesn't work. And the onscreen pad is too small on Diamond screen.
It'd be nice if everyone posted

No need for compatibility, since it's available on the website.

Processor speed 528 or 400?

Hi all,
I notice that all the marketing data and spec sheets say the X1 has a 528MHz processor, but some people are saying it has a 400MHz. Does anyone here know what speed their device is actually running at?
-Oobly
well, 528mhz is correct.
the plugin homescreen++ showes 400mhz, but i think that this information in wrong.
The phone has a 528mhz processor, but it only runs at 400mhz - meaning that it does not run at full speed unless you tweak the settings.
Okay, so how do you tweak the settings? Does neuClockControl work to set it to 528MHz?
A processor specified to work at 528MHz running at 400MHz is still just a 400MHz processor if there is no way to make it run at 528. If this is the case then we have been royally screwed by SE/HTC.
I would like to be able to push it to 528MHz for gaming, etc (I don't mind the extra power usage if it means better performance), and change it back to 400 manually again for normal use (so it uses less battery power).

Cool! So does it actually show 528MHz and can you see a difference in performance?
I'm pretty sure it runs on 528mhz, not at 400. It is not slower than touch pro/hd expect graphical apps, where the video drivers count. Plus I saw the clock rate on some WinMo software as 528.something mhz, or was it 529mhz. Can't remember the software, but I couldn't care less if some old software with old DB misjudges the 7200A with 7200 processor and says that the cpu runs at 400mhz sharp. That's not reliable at all. Plus it's almost imposible to keep the cpu at 400.00mhz, just like 528.00mhz, it's usually a little bit more or less. So if it is a real measurement, you would probably see something like 401.25 or 528.84 or something Mhz. Have you done some benchmarks on SKTools for example. The cpu is somethimes on par with Samsung Omnia, which should be a Marvell PXA312 624 MHz processor. A 400mhz cpu just can not do that, even though mhz to mhz is not a proper way to compare CPU speed.
Here's a little info on what I mean: SKTools shows that the cpu speed is 400 000 000 hz, which is obviously not the real value but something predefined. Also the Integer Test on SkTools gave a value of 329.8084 units, which is on par with Touch Pro/HD and much faster than Omnia 1 with value of 253.10 on this test. The floating point is 7.552 MWIPS, again on par with the other 528mhz devices, and here it is slower than the top in list 8.63 MWIPS Omnia 624Mhz. The conclusion should be clear - either all devices are underclocked (together with X1) or X1 is running on 528Mhz cpu.
installed the software and started it up, it says my cpu is at 528mhz. where are people getting the 400mhz from?

And a few other places. Could just be reported incorrectly to some software, especially when they display exactly 400MHz. On the other hand it could be that CorePlayer or the OS somehow ups the speed to 528 when it is needed. I have heard reports of devices running faster when leaving a video open in the background. Maybe there is already some dynamic clock adjustment going on even without using neuDynamicClock?
this is what i think. the x1 is running at 538mhz but sometimes (with some app/ tasks) its been told to stay at 400mhz for some reason unknown to us (maybe to save battery or so it does not overheat).
if u look at the iphone we know for a fact that it was underclocked but the x1 nowhere has it even been said that its been underclocked apart from a few people on this forum, and i reckon that the app / software is not giving a proper / accurate reading or the app been told to run at 400mhz and people have just assumed that the cpu is underclocked. as i said this software is saying its running a 528mhz, which is the official spec for the cpu, so i cant see how people have handsets that are underclocked.

sorry no, i have not tested the x1 at default speed.
but with this software you can change the speed from same state... and a little or medium improvement is possible.
i use the 528 mhz and level 0 for the voltage. to put the chipset to 528 mhz at 1.1 volt instead of 1.325 volt
and in stand-by i put the chipset at 122 mhz and 1.1 volt

this is what i think. the x1 is running at 538mhz but sometimes (with some app/ tasks) its been told to stay at 400mhz for some reason unknown to us (maybe to save battery or so it does not overheat).

I agree with that. Even the modern CPUs run at lower speeds if not utilized enough, not to mention that this should be a must for the handheld/pocket devices.
funny thing is, that I've installed nue dynamic clock and without changing anything in the past it shows that my device clock is running 528 mhz @ 1.1V. it is all soo damn confusing...

I did this as well, with nue dynamic clock showing 528mHz.
Homescreen++ still shows 400 mHz though. Only thing I can think is that Homescreen++ looks up the processor and mistakes it with a predecessor.
In other news, xperia is darn side quicker than my Kaiser, with a much more beautiful screen bonus, but maybe the speed is related to that 'drivers' story
Anyone know what registry settings Nue alters?
I want to try to overclock.

You cannot do that.

hey! I was a kaiser user as well and x1 is much faster indeed. what more, You musn't forget that it's resolution is more than four times higher.

I actually did overclock my fuze, to 628MHz. There is a program in the raphael section; performance something something...
I tried it right before i received my x1, and i didn't notice any improvements or problems.
I belive the same app should work for the x1, since it has same chip.

I'd be all over that. I searched the forum but came up empty. If you happen to remember the name, let me know. I'll run a bunch of benchmarks and post them here.
