Alternate power key on AT&T Tilt - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi Everyone. I was hoping someone might be able to help me with something. I'm looking for a way to assign a different key on my AT&T tilt as the power button. Basically I would like to have the end key act as the power button when it is pressed down and held for a few seconds. I've been searching all the Kaiser threads the last couple days. And I've found several threads that start to mention the topic, but I'm still not clear on it. The best solution looked to be AE button plus...but then I saw in another thread that it doesn't work for the power button. So, if this kind of question has already been answered, I apologize...I just couldn't find it.
So, can anyone either push me in the right direction, or give me some pointers on the best way to search for this info on the site? I really appreciate it.
Thanks!!!

The power key is connected directly to the mainboard so as far as i'm aware there is no way to assign a different button to power.
However there may be a way to assign the end call key to turn the phone off only, but it wouldn't be able to turn it back on unless you use the power key.
I'll have a look now.

AE Button Plus would work for turning it off, it does have that option. However, you would still need to use the regular power button to turn it back on.

Button Question

Hi everyone, i have had a chance to mess with the tilt, now im waiting for mine to come in the mail, the one thing that pissed me off about it was, like my X01HT it has a comm manager button, i like that button a lot, but also i use the push and hold to put the phone on vibrate, when i get the phone i plan to put the stock HTC Rom, but i was wondering is there anything i can do about that, i want to enable push and hold vibration
I just installed AE Button Plus on mine, and it is great. YOu can set it up to do all kinds of things on your buttons, wiht single, double, triple, and hold settings for each button on the phone. Inexpensive as well.
Here's a link to info on it.
or you can use the htc end key, and set the long end key press to switch to vibrate. and its free

Standby with Hard Button Other than Power Button?

I have searched, but I have been unable to find a solution to my problem.
During my searches, I have discovered that many people, like myself, often struggle finding and pressing the power button to turn on and off the screen/phone.
I current use S2U2, which is a great piece of software, and even better since it is free. I use S2U2 to wake my phone up. I have set my settings to not lock the phone when device is off so to unlock/wake my phone I simply press any of the hardware buttons, and I see the S2U2 screen.
However, turning the screen off/putting it in standby is more of a hassle since I have to try and track down the tiny power button. I have downloaded and tried several free remapping programs but none of them allow me to remap a hardware button to standby/lock the phone. Generally, they only allow me to remap a hardware button to a program or setting other than standby/lock.
I would like to know if there was a way to remap a button to put the phone in standby.
I use BlackMe , more info on the website...
You could also try putting some "puffy" paint on the power button. It's that 3D paint people put on shirts etc. that bulges up when it dries. It makes a nice little bead to hit rather than trying to press the little power button.

Click to collapse
Does this program put the Tilt into SLEEP/STANDBY or just blank the screen. The author does not make this clear.
it just blanks the screen. I will keep up with this thread though, I have always wanted my PTT button to be my power button.....
yeah, me too. I am surprised that there isn't a solution yet....
I've always hated the hard to find power button as well. The PTT button is so easy to find and press, yet I've never, ever, not once accidentally pressed it. Why can't the power button be as raised up as the PTT one? I've seriously considered taking my phone apart and machining a replacement power button that stuck out farther. I'd probably make it out of aluminum to make it look cool, too.
But I'd be plenty happy in the mean time with remapping my PTT button to be a power button...
Yeah, I don't even need all the power button powers... I know the power button is used to do other things other than turn the screen on and off... I just want to use another button to turn the screen on and off and suspend the phone...
SPB Mobile Shell allows you to toggle the screen, suspend and many other options. I don't know if I would purchase the program just for it's button enhancing ability though.
Correction SPB Pocket Plus not SPB Mobile Shell

I dont know if this is kind of what you guys want, but heres my 2 cents. Go here to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431328&page=4 and download Dave Shaw's awesome remake of psShutXP in post #34 (its the newest version)
Install to your MAIN DEVICE cuz thats where these shortcuts point to, then pick one of the 2 shortcuts I provided and just drop them in your main \Windows folder.
Hold down PTT button
Long_PTT
Quick push of PTT button
Short_PTT
Now, you can either just quickly push the PTT button or hold it down (depending on which shortcut you chose) and xdaShutdown will pop up giving you the option to RESTART,SLEEP/SCREEN OFF, or COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN your phone.
So essentially now, the PTT is your new power button. To put in standby mode just 2 button pushes is required. 1 push on the PTT button, then another tap on the Sleep button.
But if your really lazy and just want to be able to push PTT button once to put it in Standby/Sleep mode, then all you would do is find out the command to put the phone in standby mode (sorry I dont know it), then open notepad on your desktop, then type the command something like, this is ONLY AN EXAMPLE (42#"\Program Files\xdaShutdown\xdaShutdown.exe"), then save the file as either Short_PTT.lnk or Long_PTT.lnk and then drop the file into your \Windows folder.
But what about one push on the PTT button to wake it up out of standby? (without setting it so that all buttons wake it...)
Wow, I am an idiot. Haha. I never thought about the "wake up" part. Cuz once in Standby, the PTT button would then be non responsive so it then wouldnt work for waking the device. That is a tuff one, I have no idea how to specify what button(s) are locked/unlocked when in standby.
No way, you're not an idiot! I (and others I'm sure) totally appreciate your input. I just happened to have thought this over many, many times. I very well may have to go buy a bottle of that "puffy" paint stuff... sure would beat a full disassembly of the device to make a new, pronounced button!
I'm hoping I haven't misread the problem here, but if it is what I think it is, then you can do it with just S2U2.
I have my TyTnII set up as follows:
No button lock
S2U2 set to lock when backlight turns off
Backlight to turn off in 1 minute
In Setting/Buttons, assign "Button 4 (hold)" to S2U2
So I use it in a similar manner to the original poster. I "wake" it with a press of any hardware button (and obviously unlock it with a slide on the screen)
I lock/stand-by it by pressing and holding the OK button (it goes into standby after 1 min of being locked)
Hope that makes sense and is what you are after.
(nb am not 100% sure that the ability to set an app to run on the holding of a button is standard - I might only have that functionality dues to having SPB PocketPlus installed - am sure someone will let me know!)
Yes! this is what I was going for... I didn't even think about using your solution. Thanks!!!!
Does anyone have a problem with the hardware buttons not waking the phone up? I have my key lock setting not to lock buttons, but most of the time, my phone does not wake up when I press any of the hard keys. However, when I use the jog dial, the phone will wake up, but none of the other buttons will work.

power button alternative

My kaisers power button has split in half on me, Im wondering if i can change the PTT button to be the power button thru maybe a registry change or possibly another alternative. As u kno the power button blacks the screen and locks it so u cant push buttons, and i really dont want to dial in my pocket. Can someone please help me???? I dont want to throw away a prefectly good phone bcuz of a poorly made button. Thank you guys
well i took my phone apart and swapped the camera buton for the power button, but who knows how long this one will last. Does anyone know of any reg hacks, or software that will lock the phone on a button press maybe PTT button?
Very good that you have the technical ability to do what you did
In order to not use the power button so much I advise you to install a lock utility like S2U2 for example (I suggest it because I use it and it has a very nice interface). There are also smaller and lighter apps around. Just have a look.
In addition to that you have to change the key lock settings of the phone to "lock keys if phone is locked". This will enable you to wake the phone up with any key on the phone. In order to not activate any functions of the phone with this setting you have to set the timeout of S2U2 on wakeup to 0. This way S2U2 kicks in before any of the key functions come in.
By doing these things I am able to have a phone that does not dial in my pocket and I do not use the power button to wake it up. I use the wheel.
I hope this helps.

[Q] Red Button & Power Button

I'm trying to remap my End Call button so I can use it to "Go Home", and End Calls. I don't want that button to put my phone to sleep, just the side power button. I want to also free up my IE button for use with anything else I might want it bound too.
In my ventures to do so, I've noticed that both the End Call button and Power button are mapped to the same keymap. I had thought I had changed the Power button but when I tried to end a call, the red button just puts the phone to sleep, which is exactly what I wanted my side power button to do while I'm on a call.
Is this a bug, or a "feature" in the kernel?
im pretty sure its part of the kernel, it has been there since the donut days (the old keymap was crazy volume up was the menu button, volume down was back)
it is partly due to the fact that the vogue has very few buttons, the kaiser was a device that just worked with our kernels at first.
i think even changing the buttons in atools will not change the kernel key stacks like your asking for
although l1q1d being the creator of Atools would know a lot better than I would
I've been looking at the querty.kl file, trying to understand the keymaps, and what they're associated too... Anyway of running a program that captures key presses and prints out the associated keymap for that key press?
Hey! Post from the grave!
Did you have any luck ??
I was also hoping someone knew how to go about this.
I know there are ways to remap keys, but I'm stuck in a browser, and all I can do it put my kaiser to sleep.
I even tried atools keyboard remapper to no avail (awesome tool btw).
It's no fun when you can't exit applications d:
I don't mean to double post, was just hoping someone could answer this.
Krazy-Killa did you have any luck?

Question about the power key

First off, I'd like to mention I'm new here, so if I'm posting this in the wrong place, please forgive me.
Second, the topic: I've had a problem with my power key for at least half a year now. As far as I can tell, it started after I accidentally dropped it (No harder than I usually would if I ever did drop it which is rare) with my otterbox case on it. I picked it up and tried to turn on my screen and noticed a long lag before the screen came on.
I didn't think anything of it until the next day the key wasn't responsive at all. I looked, and the key is not cracked, and there's no visible damage from the outside. I figured out if I shook the phone, or tapped on the button a certain way, sometimes I could get the button to work, but that was just unacceptable. So i found a fix in the application "Button Savior". Coupled with the volume rocker wake feature of my ROM.
But after all this time, I'd still really like my power button to work, so here are my questions:
1. Is this a common problem? Have you yourself experienced this, or have you seen others have this problem?
2. Any ideas on what is actually wrong with the button, and how I could fix the button mechanism? I'm not against taking the phone apart to repair it if that's what it takes.
Thanks in advance guys!
Additional info: Maybe not a hardware issue?
I've found that while having to enter into recovery mode by using the three button combo, it seems to register the power button being pressed in order to actually get into recovery, but once in recovery I have the same old problem of not being able to use the power button (as in I have to shake it and tap it a lot for it to register, and even that is unreliable)
