Okay, I'll bite. - Wing, P4350 Herald Upgrading

I've finally decided it's that time, Developers.
I really have no clue what I'm doing. I'm not well-versed with the inner mechanics of computer technology, or "flashing roms," or "cooking." Honestly, I just follow instructions very well.
With that said, I've flashed several roms from this site. My first was one of itje's, and it worked great. When I finally decided to try new ones and flashed the Open Touch line, it started to give me a hassle (now this isn't to say Open Touch is to blame, because I tried other one's after that, too).
Every time I flash a new rom, now, I'll put it on the device and say "this is incredible." I'll begin to customize it to my liking, manipulating the device settings and the such. Somewhere along the road, I'll say "time to soft reset!" At that point, the device will successfully power off, and power on. Then, the WM Loader screen appears, and stays right there. I've used a couple of troubleshooting techniques to figure out why, but I honestly have no clue what to look for. Hopefully, you do:
> This usually happens once I've FINISHED customizing it. I suspect (for some reason) it has to do with Windows Live Messenger.
> It also might be the "battery indicator" that I throw on the Today Screen.
> I STILL have no clue what "Hibernate" means, but I do it regularly because it seems to help.
> Soft resetting it again won't work. I actually need to use the hardware buttons to reset the device from factory defaults in order to make it run again (and of course it's no longer customized).
> Currently, I'm running the: Open Touch v2.7
In closing: If this is in the wrong sub-forum, I apologize. Please move it, and I'll know for next time. I didn't even really want to make this thread because I obviously sound like an idiot who doesn't belong holding a Wing. Hopefully one of you has an answer that will make some sense to me, because at this point I'm almost confused enough to digress back to a Samsung Blast.

are you overclocking it with battery status? if so try overclocking to 260mhz not 273mhz or even 243mhz.
I hope that helps.

You see, that's the problem. I don't even know what the heck "overclocking" means. All I know is it said "Be careful with this!" so I didn't even touch it.
Thanks for trying, though.

On wizard forum there were alot of people having trouble with "badflash" - I donĀ“t even know what it is.
BUT before flashing a new rom they flash a stock rom!
AND they confrim a hardreset after flashing...
Maybe this helps

have you tried to flash then soft reset prior to cutomising the device? If it is OK it would point to something you are doing with your customisations, if not then I would look into what papamopps said.
if it is something you are doing then change one thing at a time and soft reset, eventually you will narrow it down to whatever you are doing that is causing this.

Tilt Touch Screen failing after loading Dutts latest ROM

Hey there,
A bit new, just finished loading Duttys WM6.1.5.2.1972_Hybrid_V2_1_65.14.06[CubeV2] Rom. Seems great at first. Had to download Goodlink for the corporate stuff. It works fine for a bit, but as soon as an Outlook reminder pops up, suddenly the touch screen is completely dead. Tried all buttons etc on the front. The keyboard works and the buttons can be used as the menu choices, but it took a hard reset to fix it. Which then I had to reload Goodlink and it happened again.
Any patches or settings anyone can think of? Goodllink is the only add in I put in. Any other ROM's recommended perhaps? Thanks all!

I notice this is your fisrt post so welcome. There is a great deal of helpful experience here to help but it does certainly pay to pose questions in the correct place. If you ever have a question about a ROM then post your question in that area and you will be far more likely to get the helpful anser that you want. People are also sometimes too quick to 'Flame' people making such errors - but not me so hopefully this will help:
I am on that same ROM and have noticed that after initial ROM installation that the touch screen is initially 'prone' to what appear to be freezes. In fact I noticed on my device that I had to press quite hard to get any interaction with the screen and sometimes it did not respond.
Cannot say why but this has now completely gone and did so with each ROM install. It took a few soft resets to see the screen working correctly but it is great now! So it may not be your additional software. Just try sticking with it for longer and some soft resets. You might also try tweaking the sensitivity of the screen.
Suggest you search within the correct area and you'll see few comments about this kind of thing (but not many).
Regards
Thanks Tony. My first time posting so wasnt sure where to put it. Have done all you suggested. Worse case, back to the ATT rom, oh well. Will search also and try posting in the right location. Thanks!

i just reviewed the software online and i can make several predictions why this is conflicting with the rom. 1) htc home
go to settings>personal>today>items>and uncheck htc home.
let me know if goodlink works thereafter if not I have a few more predictions to why it doesn't operate correctly.
Oh, and i just noticed you had a cube version, which could also be conflicting.
Thanks for the input Red. Tried that to no avail. Even tried soft reset afterwards. It is dead before goodlink even starts. BTW, this will be worth a Pint or two if you get me working.
I thought it might be the Cube version so after several hard resets(storage clearing), I went ahead and flashed it with Dutty's Non Cube version just to see if that was it and it wasn't. I tried tuning the touch screen too, bumping sensitivity up to 200, didnt help either. Tried loading the tweaks program, but nothing there either helped(actually cant even use it when frozen). The keypad, buttons all work, but the touch screen is dead. Hard reset fixes it, loading Goodlink, which I have to have for its a corp phone, kills the touch screen. I believe it worked for a few minutes, then locked up. I need to reverify that just to make sure it didnt happen immediately with Goodlink install. Very strange.

im getting a tilt

i will be recieving my new at&t tilt on tues. i have been reading alot about it over the last few days and i have noticed alot of chatter about having a bunch of un-necessary software pre loaded onto the device. i was wondering if anyone had any good ideas on how to optimize mine in the easiest way possible.. this will be my first smartphone running windows mobile so plz forgive me if i dont understand some stuff. thanks in advance for any ideas..
The first thing you should do is read all the wiki's that you can on this site. I came to this site many months ago and through using the wiki's I managed to learn how to flash a new rom (think of it as an altered version of windows mobile), how to change spl's (the equivalent of a computer's BIOS), flashing new radio's (The phone's parameters for call quality, signal acquiring, and gps capability), and now I'm cooking my own rom and hope to have it ready by the end of the month. Search for answers to your questions first so you don't get flamed, but if you need to post, know that these are probably the most knowledgable people around for this and they will go out of their way to help you. HOWEVER, know this, after you become accustomed to flashing your phone, it's a nonstop never ending addiction to reach perfection.
thanks so much, i found the wiki's now and am reading thru them..
Don't get overwhelmed when you try this stuff. Follow the directions and and don't try to do too much at once. Have fun, Welcome to the forum
One quick way to get rid of a lot of the bloat is to do a hard reset of the software ( hold down both soft keys and hit reset button by USB port with stylus, when prompted hit green button. If no prompt to"hit send button" then you did it wrong) then as soon as the customization screen comes on do a soft reset (same as hard reset without holding soft keys.)
This won't do much but keep a lot of ATT specific software from being installed. IT is a start until you are comfortable with flashing.
Also you might need to reset ATT settings for internet if you do this. I am not sure though.

SORRY...but PLEASE HELP

i know alot of you all dont want me to start a new thread but my phone is acting crazy and i need help ASAP its giving me plenty of problems but only going to ask to help a couple....
1.) i installed psShutXP Power key on my phone and it worked great and actually still does but after it has been on my phone my phone will soft reset at any given moment(mainly when im on a phone call)...i have uninstalled and installed to see if that was the problem and unistalled again and still no fix please help on this problem first
2.) sometimes when i hit my power key to wake up the phone from sleep mode it gives me either an all black screen or an all white screen so i will have to put it back to sleep and try 2 or 3 times
P.S. i own the htc fuze from at&t in the US and same ROM as it came with...PLEASE help and dont flame and i will not add another thread of this kind again
No worries friend. This site is here to help.
Your best bet is to try a hard reset. This will wipe the device and set it back to factory fresh state. Just like you took it our of the box.
The downside to this is all of your data and programs in memory will be wiped out. The SD card will be fine, but to be safe, remove it befre you hard reset.
To hard reset, do the following:
1. turn the device off.
2. press and hold the volume down and Enter Button (round one on front)
3. Soft reset and keep holding down volume.
4. follow instructions on the screen.
Since you are faced with this, you may want to try flashing a new ROM or deleting some of the ATT "bloat" that comes pre installed. Check here for new ROM advice. Check here for a lighter set-up of the factory ROM.
Good luck.
Doug M.
is it any other way i might be able to fix without hard reset...just want that to be a last resort
P.S. my phone have seen some water it fell in outside during a rain storm so didnt know if that would have something to do with it also but this also happen a couple of months ago
It sounds like you have already tried the normal procedures. Your best bet for future stability is to start over. If you follow one of the 2 guides in my earlier post, you will have a much more stable device going forward. It takes a bit of time, but is worth it. Once you get the hang of it, it gets easier.
Doug M.
just try to hard reset it. you always can go back to factory ROM.
now im using wm 6.5, and my device performance is spectacular. XDA is the best.
thx guys.....i will try the energy rom 3 wm 6.5 that i have heard alot about
energy rom is a good choice and my current rom .
don't worry , once you figure out the rom scene you will hard reset all the time and will learn how to backup your contacts and texts .
a good thing is that nrg's rom even has a good restoring program built in . Pim restore . i use it religiously .
If you run into problems flashing another ROM or the phone still "acts" up, the drop or the water may have damaged some circuitry in the device.
You may need to restore to a factory state and send it in for service.
thx guys i was out of town.........but yea i got a replacement coming in so back to the drawing board with adding all the software i had on the old one to the new one but once again thx
my phone would turn off randomly and when slid it shut. bent the battery pins out a bit and all good now. just thought I'd add that as a possible problem/solution
lol wish you told me a few days sooner i just filed insurance claim and got a new but thx anyway because i might just have to do that with phone....im not hard on phones just bad luck if you know what i mean
Other things to do in the future if you come across similar problems:
1. Uninstall the last app you installed prior to having the problems.
2. See if problem is still there...
3. Repeat 1&2.
Always back up your data... There are some very nice backup programs available.
If above doesn't work.
Hard Reset and load programs one at a time after hard reset until problem reappears...or hopefully does not reappear.
If you load a bunch of apps on your phone, it can be more difficult to narrow down because of the amount of changes made by each app it may not return to the same state after uninstalling a program. That is why Hard Reset can be your friend...

'preparing your device for first use'

Hi folks, I've been using abusalza's Ulitmate-X roms for a good few months now, and recently I decided to update to his WM6.5 beta version, after doing that whenever the phone needs a soft reset, it will boot and say 'preparing your device for first use', and format everything on the phone and then boot up.
So I decided to flash his Ultimate-X2 V11 rom, same issue, and now I've gone back to his Ultimate-X V9, which I'm pretty sure is the same ROM I've been using for some months now (never had any issues before), and whenever it requires a soft reset it will do the 'preparing device for first use' thing, it will do the customization install, then the connection setup, then reboot itself and just sit there on the PDA Corner Ultimate screen until I reset it, soft resets just keep hanging on the PDA Corner Ultimate screen, and unless I hard reset it (soft keys and press the reset button, that's a hard reset isn't it?) it won't get passed that point. I've just this minute had to hard reset it and it's booted, but it takes a good 5-10 minutes each time which gets annoying.
Has something packed up in my Kaiser to make it do this? Seems out of 3 ROM's I've tried they all now have the same issue, including a ROM I'm pretty sure I used to use with no issues.
Sorry if this is a common problem and easy to cure, I did search for 'preparing your device for first use' and something came up from months ago, but a totally different issue.
Thanks for any advice, Dom.
duuuuuuuudddeeeee!!! you have made TWO basic mistakes
1. this post belongs in the thread for the ROM you are using (same series as myself) where you will find...
2. you need to flash stock ROM first!!! it is written on the FIRST PAGE of the thread...i mean seriously, EVERY DAY on that thread, you will see this pattern:
noob writes a post..."my device hard resets after soft resetting...your ROM sucks, etc, etc"...then someone directs them to the instructions on the first page of the thread and problem solved. afterall, the instructions are there on the first page so that people can read them along with the FAQ.
I'm sorry!
I'll not bother you again I promise *goes to read the FIRST PAGE of the ROM topic*
The only reason I've never done this before is because I'm sure I've flashed ROMs in the past and not had to go back to OEM first
Thanks a lot, I'll go have a read now.

Well at least you didn't start a new thread in the rom development forum
And the OEM first, appears to be a 6.5 only thing, so how would you know...
But I still won't forgive you for not reading the first page or the FAQs. When the doctor gives you new medication to get rid of the flu, do you read the label , or do you just take two or three and figure that should be enough.

[sarcasm]I always thought the best way was to take all the pills at once? No wonder I feel a bit rough afterwards [/sarcasm]
I do feel like a tool at the moment so that's something to be chuffed about
Cheers, just downloading another updated rom and I'll give that a go, it's back to OEM now.
Thanks again.

Small problem

Hi,
I have tried several ROMs, all of them work just fine until (after a period of time that may range from hours to days) and when I soft-reset my device, it acts like if I hard-reset it; goes through the setup, contacts gone.. etc. Anybody?
I do flash ROMs following the the steps in the related threads.
I've tried to search threads for anything like this, but I couldn't find any. (I hope I didn't miss any post, I know how annoying it would be for more to ask for something that was asked before).
Ah, and this is my first post! I'd like to thank all the devs for their outstanding work.
Thanks.
How do you reset the device from the back of the phone or from the software.
If you do it from the back of the phone, it should only do a saft reset not eraase anything.
If you do it using software on the phone, It maybe written to do a hard reset, I advise to check with the maker of the software or ROM what type of reset it is suppose to do.
