Does anyone know if there is an alternate to ActiveSync?
I have been using WinMo for about a year and am disappointed that the sync software from M$ doesn't actually sync. That is to say, it doesn't look at a file - say Contacts - and use the more recently updated one to overwrite the other one, regardless of whether the newer one is on the PC or the phone.
For example, if I enter a new contact into my phone, while I am in the field, the concact does not show up on my PC after a sync. Still on the phone, but not actually synchronized to the PC.
Is there software that actually synchronizes or do they all just follow the "overwrite phone/ overwrite computer" rules?
I should mention that I sync between 2 PCs.
The best there is.

Wow!
Thanks!
Can't wait to give this a try!
Mmm it looks like it doesn't sync outlook stuff (calendar, contacts, tasks, email).. is that the case?
sounds like you have a configuration issue w/ activesync - mine will take whichever is newer, even when syncing between 2 machine. in fact, i've used my phone to sync my work and home machines by using my phone as the go-between. I think the "overwrite phone/etc" settings only kick in if a record is changed on both the phone as well as the desktop?
it sounds like he wants to Sync on 2 PC's and get all stuff on both
you can sync on 2 pcs and get everything on both. the only thing you can't sync to two machines is email...
Task Sync Error
Hi all,
I had a look but couldn't find any help on this issue, so any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have a Tytn II running WM6, it syncs all my contacts and everything, however i have created a couple of tasks that occur on a weekly basis. I created them in Outlook and then synced them to my phone. The problem i have is when i complete the task and mark it off on my phone, the next time i sync, the task in outlook is not complete and has made a duplicate, is there any way to change this.
Thanks

I know there are a few options out there for WM and Mac syncing, but need to know which ones work reliably with the Diamond for Calendars, Contacts. Pics, music and video would be good too.
Is The Missing Sync the best to get in this respect and has anyone tested with the Diamond ?
cheers in advance.
MissingSync works for me very well...
Cool thanks. Needed to know before buying it. New to the whole WM thing and getting my Diamond Weds with luck.
If anyone has a Diamond and a MacBook Pro, can you let me know if the Internet Sharing with PAN Bluetooth works and is reliable?
My current Hermes has a bad latency issue which seems to affect a lot of WM devices when tethered with the MacBook Pro / Airs.
Thanks
Aidan
Will give it a go later in the week if I get my Diamond ok on Weds. Mind you, will be fun being a new WM user trying to get it to work ;-)
Its a feature I'd like to be able to use.
It works well, still a bit slow tho, tried it the other day for fun.
You can go online alrite, dunno if it's where i was sitting but hte connection was slow
Any chance of a little tutorial chap ?
Could never get my Nokia N95 to work correctly.
Try it !!
Syncmate.
I use Sync Mate and its pretty good.
Will give it a go too.
Thanks.
Been having real issues with both SyncMate and Missing Sync.
Both do not sync correctly... I usually sync just one group out of Address Book (not the whole thing) and keep that up to date. 1st time I sync it works, subsequent times it insists on syncing all my contacts.
Calendar is also a bit flakey.
Running Mac OS X 10.5.4
Mark Space do not seem to warrant any pre sales support either so are of no help at all. Been waiting 3 days for a reply to my questions
Missing Sync does not work well.
Pictures of contacts are partly corrupt.
TF3D starts new, if i add a new favorite with some contacts.
Then i must delete the picture from this contact and add a new one, then TF3d will work.
(OSX10.5, Missing Sync 4.03, MacBook)
Hi, everytime i sync with missing sync i double my contacts anyone knows why?
its not good because i have some contacts in triplicate.

First time, i sync the PDA with Missing Sync, in the options i switch on the button "MAC overwrites PDA". Then sync, then switch off the button and sync again. So it works at mine.

I am using Missing Sync WM 4.0.3 with Mac OS 10.5.4 and it is working fine but I have no picture attached to the contacts.
The first-time sync procedure I usually use is the following:
- launch iSync from the "Application" folder;
- reset the sync history in the iSync > Preferences menu;
- close iSync;
- launch Missing Sync WM;
- for each syncing plugin you need to use, select "Mac overrides Device", click "Debugging options" and then "Reset sync history";
- logout from your user session and login back again;
- connect your device as explained in the Missing Sync manual;
- enable detailed logging in Missing Sync preferences and display the log;
... then be very very careful ;-)
* click the "Sync" button at the top or at the bottom of the main Missing Sync window.
* some of the items selected for syncing will sync and some will not (look at the log during the syncing process). *Disable* the "Mac overrides Device" options for the successfully synced items. Repeat the two stared "*" steps until all the item are successfully synced...
- further synchronizations should run flawlessly.
Hope this helps... (be patient and good luck ;-)
[You may also want to sync a second Mac with your device but the procedure is a bit different and a bit more complex.]
mbp and missing sync works very well
correction !!!
i just tried, than i even bought syncmate, its far better, and nicer than pocketmac or missing sync ( wich i used for years, so i absolutely recommend syncmate now, wonderful !!
syncmate is great. It does what it is suppose to do (I've only tried contacts).
I've used only USB sync don't know if WIFI works.
Syncmate is also working for e, strangely enough only via the Wifi - Sync option, not via the USB cable (but i prefer the wireless link anyways).
You should be aware, that you have to install the syncmate - driver on your phone, or no connection will be possible
OK, this just started for me. Yesterday, after entering a couple of appointments into my Tilt, I was able to sync to a MS Exchange Server wirelessly everything EXCEPT those 2 appointments. Mail/contacts work fine. Just not new appointments. However, I can enter them directly into Outlook 2003 and they sync back to the Tilt. No new appointment, re-occurring or not, with or without notes/reminders/attachments syncs. they are reflected on the Tilt, just won't sync. When connected via USB, I get the no help "Support Code 1" error.
My ROM/Radio/Hard SPL info is in my signature. Win XP (I don't know what service pack the server is, but no changes that have occured that coincide), Active Sync is 4.5.0. Death V.4 does have Thumbcal installed by default which, in an effort to resolve, switched to the standard calendar program. I also (in no particular order):
1. ran scanpst.exe on PC
2. ran detect and repair in Outlook
3. did Regsvr32.exe %Windir%\System32\ole32.dll
4. deleted and reconfigured relationship in Activesync
5. changed the durations of the past appointments AND
6. searched to no end XDA and the net for a solution.
Any assistance would be appreciated. TIA!!
-Sign into OWA check if all is ok.
-On your desktop, do the same in outlook
-Create a test appointment with notes on OWA and see if it sync with your desktop calendar.
*If it sync you're good and you may have to contact your exchange host to see if there's been any changes in your exchange setup settings for your device.
*If the sync fails, create a new outlook profile on your desktop. It's a possibilty you profile is corrupt. Any part of outlook can be corrupt and not effect outlook as a whole. In your case, your calendar isn't functioning properly.
-Also...if you had your exchange account for a while, check the personal folder file size. It can hold up to 1.96 gb but at around 1.75, 1.8 gb ... outlook may do some weird things. If this is the case, you need to start archiving.
Hope this helps.
My background on topic:
I used to do tech support for Honeywell where 80% were exchange email related. Most of the users used Blackberrys and a handfull of windows mobile users. I provided telephone & remote support with Landesk & Remote Desktop.
Thanks! I will check in the morning. After posting this I noticed that one of my PST was well into 2 gigs. I am in the process of moving stuff around and hopefully can get it to be a more reasonable size. Lots of rules to adjust. . . .

OK, no luck. Entered an appointment with note in OWA, which synced fine with desktop. Adjusted pst size down to 1 gig, deleted and created a new profile in Outlook. Hard reset Tilt, contacted IT at work and no changes to Exchange Server. IT said contact ATT to see if it is something on their end, but I don't see how that could be.
This is a disaster for me.
I really need to have this working.
edit: One more interesting facet: if I just sync the calendars via USB (i.e. deselect MS Exchange and select "this PC"), syncing occurs. This is entirely related to the wireless component of syncing the calendar. Weird . . .
edit 2: well, flahed Duttys Hybrid, and all was good. Reflashed Death V4 and problem returned. Switched over to L26 KaiserDiamond V9 and problem resolved. NO FRIGGIN IDEA WHY. Thanks DWNY for the help, though. I suspect that my Exchange Server has something against Shogunmark.

Glad I could help ... somewhat.
What ever you do, do not upgrade to IE8 especially if you update your calendar with OWA. The new appointment will show up in your calendar but if you've created notes .... the won't sync to your phone.
Other browsers will show OWA in basic mode with only text entries, no HTML support.
Just a tid bit to share .....
ROMeOS 3.1 has worked great for me.
I'm a heavy Outlook user myself. These days I run my own IT Sub-Contracting company and do all my scheduling via OWA.

Anybody? would love some help!
Not sure if anyone is still having this issue, but the fix for Calendar items created on device not syncing up to Exchange (but sync no problem from Exchange to device), do the following:
1. Go to Start/Settings/Clock & Alarm
2. Change your Time Zone to another zone, and OK.
3. Go into ActiveSync on device, and sync with exchange
4. Go back to Clock & Alarm and change your time zone back to appropriate time zone
5. sync with ActiveSync again.
Problem should be resolved. Has worked for me many of times.
Thanks!
Recently I've used the recovery dvd to reset my PC. I also have to install Active Sync. Strangely enough I couldn't install the disk that HTC puts into the boxes where you buy your phones in. The program says that you must install flash 8.0 or higher with a link that link you up to Adobe's website. I already did install the latest flash player. I uninstall it, reset the computer, put in the disk, hit the link, install the flash player again, restart again. Still the same message. After that I downloaded ActiveSync 4.5 at the website of Microsoft. It works okay.
When I put a new contact in the phone it won't set the contact into Word Office Outlook 2003. Otherwise it works.
I've tried to delete the device into ActiveSync and loaded up in it again but that won't work unfortunately. Please help!
Is everything else you selected to sync sychronising properly? It's not just simply that you didn't select the options when you re-installed?
Does ActiveSync come up with any error messages? It could be that you need to delete partnerships and re-establish them - in my experience ActiveSync is a bit 'fussy' when uninstalled and re-installed.
Whatever, make sure you do full backup(s) before trying anything - I lost all my data one time when an engineer 'tried' to re-establish my ActiveSync partnership!
My pc was completly turned up side down so I used the recovery dvd and that deleted the whole C disk, also ActiveSync. I do had to download ActiveSync from the website because the disk wouldn't run. And yes I do change some options.
It can not synchronised some contacts that I install on my Topaz. Installing contacts in Outlook 2003 to the device works, otherwise not.
It gives the warning code 1.
Sorry, not sure what to suggest here.
If NOTHING from the phone is syncing with Outlook (i.e. no Appointments, Tasks or whatever) it sounds to me as though it could be a problem with the firewall - if you have one set up. Try disabling that and syncing.
If it's only Contacts that aren't syncing, but it works the other way, I'm at a loss.
Worth looking at the Microsoft Support pages - but ActiveSync often seems to have a mind of its own!
Sorry I can't help.

It does Sync tasks, appointments, etc. Just a couple of contacts strangely enough :S
...and it won't sync NEW Contacts at all? I've had the problem previously where existing Contacts didn't get changed - ActiveSync seemed to have got 'confused' as to which was the most up-to-date version and I had to go through entire Contacts list making small changes, waiting for them to be replicated, and if they were not then deleting that Contact on both devices and adding them back in.
That's simpler than it reads - but if you can't add NEW Contacts from the phone I'm not sure that's the problem.
Sorry.
Thnx for your input
ive tried to synce my gmail contacts all goes well with the setup then it wont even sync i keep hitting the synce button and NOTTA. so i said fuc* it and did it all manually. must be a microsoft thing.
HTC HD7 with WM7 - there is no provision to synchronise with microsoft outlook using Activesync or Windows Mobile Device Centre.
Alternate way of using Exchange Activesync does look complicated
Please address the issue
This has been Answered
There are some workarounds & a 3rd party app, the solutions have been posted and can be easily found with a simple search (here is a hint, CompanionLink for outlook, Windows Live Connector, Gmail Sync). This is a very hot issue and I suspect there will be more solutions forthcomming
Cheers

I followed method two from the two ways to sync and worked just fine. I kind of like getting away from Outlook anyway. Hotmail/Windows Live is great since it can used through any computer contected to the internet to update contacts, phone numbers, etc. But I could see if this is an issue if you primarily use Outlook.

The problem I have is my company isn't running Exchange so for me to get my calendar and contacts I need a way to sync with Outlook.
I've tried Hotmail Connector and it works well for a one time sync but if you have a lot of changes to your calendar I have to make the changes in Outlook and Hotmail.
I refuse to pay $40 for something that should work out of the box.

Unfortunately, both are cloud solutions, which are unacceptable to me for both security and privacy.
If the WM7 device were seen as an external storage device (apparently doable via the registry), does anyone know whether this could faciliate a direct USB sync with Outlook 2010 32-bit?
Both solutions are OK for a one off copy of Calender & Contacts but do not perform a true contniuous Sync with Outlook and do not handle TASKS

if you are not ready to play with the cloud, I don't think wp7 is for you. They seem very serious about making the cloud an integral part of the OS going forward.

no microsoft myphone. All syncing goes through your live email address (like hotmail). For me, I had all my contact info on gmail because of playing on android with my hd2.
1. Logged into hotmail
2. clicked on import contacts under the contacts view
3. Clicked on gmail and followed the instructions
Took about 10 minutes.
For outlook I'm pretty sure you can do something similar, though I think you might need outlook connector from the marketplace to bridge it over from outlook to hotmail. You will only have to do this once, but then I guess your outlook will not be a syncable acct on you phone.
Just looked on my hotmail and it says to export your outlook contacts to a file that you can then upload to hotmail.
I'm a Windows Mobile User for 2 years now (SE Xperia X1) and loved the way I can sync it with outlook.
I have all my contacts (approx 500) in outlook and also use the calendar (+5000 items)
I've spent some time in the past to get the info on my contacts straight and I'm very disappointed about the lack of synchronisation options between WP7 and outlook.
Why does everything needs to be cloud-based.
I don't sync every day, but neither use outlook on everyday basis.
I never experienced syncing problems on either calender/notes/contacts or mail.
I have read something about features that will be added in the near future into WP7 and hope that local outlook synchronisation is one of them.
Hi guys,
I`m new to WM7 and i`m trying t sync my contacts as well. I don`t use Outlook and idon`t have an account. Is there any other way to get my contacts on te phone?
Thanks
So the windows 7 software allows syncing to google calender, email and contacts?
I'm stunned that there is no native support for Outlook synchronization with Exchange - this is old school and what I consider a core component of any smartphone I purchase.
I've just bought a HD7 assuming it would have this functionality (why would I check for this on a Windows phone, next I'll need to check the thing makes calls), guess I'm going to have to sell it on.
There maybe Third party solutions but I can't imagine they're ever going to work as well as a direct sync with the Exchange server in my office, giving Contacts, Tasks, Calendar Items, etc.
Absolutely gutted.
B
Of course there's native support.
If you have an exchange server, you have ZERO to worry about.
The issue is people who use Outlook for Pop and Imap. Or people who just use it for tasks and contacts. Without a Hotmail Connector, there is no way to interface with Outlook like the old school Active Sync did.
Again though, If you have Exchange, it works exactly like it does on any other platform, if not better. The only thing lacking right now is Tasks.
Jimbonics,
I could kiss you. My wife wouldn't like it (and neither would you most likely, I'm stubbly)
I've been reading phone forums, reviews and specs for what seems like months trying to choose the right phone (offline voice command via bluetooth is essential for me but Android doesn't do it and other devices have flaky support) so I skim read this thread: my bad.
Thanks for making my day.
B
I am saving the less important user credentials as well as some other short stuff like registry keys and other short notes on the notes in Outlook/Exchange.
On my HD2 with WM 6.5, I used to sync these notes and and also automatically had them at home too when I synced the pda with my home outlook.
Now with Desire HD, it does not sync the outlook notes.
Is there a way to sync outlook notes under froyo?
Somebody knows of some other solution to achieve this? I usually work on the desktop and therefore also want to administer and use the notes-information there, but it should also be safed on the pda for use out of office.
Outlook notes where also handy, because they followed automatically the move to a new pc and I do not have to install some additional program.
I know of secure solutions like KeePassDroid, but it seems to be a bit too complicated to handle when used frequently.
Hi,
I am using Documents To Go to sync my exchange stuff, I can choose which folders are synced. Although I do not use the notes myself I am quite sure they can be synchronized as well.
Only hickup I see (do not like it myself) is that it does not sync with two PC's at a time. This means if You sync with two PC's there will be two folders on your SD card, not one.
Maybe this would be a solution. If You do not want to edit the files on your device, there is no need for the full version either,
regards,
Ruud
