Missing calls (jump direct to voicemail) - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello,
I have a verry weird problem with my Tytn 2.
Most of the time when people try to call me, the phone doens't ring. the only thing i see is a small incomming call icon on top of the screen and the screen turns on. after that i get an sms message from my voicemail. (They get redirected to it)
Sometimes it just works well.
Dont know what is going on, but it is verry annoying. i miss a lot of calls every day.
Maybe anyone know the issue?
Btw on a sidenote, i check my Gmail every 5mins (1min disconect when idle) but it seems to consume a lot of data +- 15MB a day. Only email checking!!
Anyone who knows how that come?
Thanks!

r u on a 3G or 2G coverage?
If on 2G, some operators do not allow data and voice at the same time. So if you have your Internet connection on at almost all the times, your voice calls will automatically be switched to VMail.
But if you have a 3G connection. dunno.
as far as the net usage, do you download ALL the message? try loading only the headers? Do you also download the attachments? all these rack up.

Well i think i can select that at the menu 'Band' it is configured as 'Auto'
Can chose:
Type network: Auto, GSM or WCDMA
Select GSM/UMTS-band: GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100) or GSM(1900+850) or UMTS (2100+800)
i know my provider supports 3g
Or is that the wrong menu? and settings.
Thanks for the tip on the email. Attachments were already disabled. but i chosed to download all tekst and no images. But now i selected it to header only, will monitor how it goes.

Hm, maybe some more ppl with input?
i still think it has something to do with the internet connection that is active.

My Kasier switches between 2G and 3G depending on coverage. Based on the answer you already got above, this might explain the "random" nature of missed calls:
If your coverage at a point in time is 2G and an incoming call happens at the same time as a scheduled email download, the call gets redirected.
If your coverage is 3G, the call comes in normally.
I hate push email on my phone (it's a control thing) and pull email down when and if it suits me!

Hmm dunno if its a coverage problem i travel a lot, and today i missed 2 calls again. Damn its getitng annoying! maybe i need to try a hard reset?
Hm most pll say that the phone rings two times, and then switches to my voicemail. But i dont hear anything, only see a small phone icon in the top bar.

Rings twice and then voicemail is definetly you using data connection when someone calls.

I have had mine not ring and go to voice mail several times. Once when it happend, I called it myself, and watched teh phone, and I noticed that it thought I had on a BT headset. My BT was on on the phone, but I did not have a BT headset on. So, I think it was sending to BT, but there was not BT. I have started turning my BT off if I am in fact not using a BT headset or other BT device.

My internet drops when I'm on a call. Is this normal?

I've had a Tilt since it launched and have run multiple different roms. What has always happened since I bought it, is that my internet connection will drop when I'm on a phone. I don't understand. I shouldn't, right? None of my other non-WM phones dropped the internet connection.
That's one of the things I loved about GSM, I could be talking on the phone (via BT) and use the internet on it, but not anymore with this phone. IM+ will disconnect all the IM clients, which is the most annoying one. I think I've heard people in this forum say they don't have this problem. Is it a flaw with Windows Mobile itself (Microsoft catering to CDMA), the Kaiser model, firmware or my phone itself?
yep, drops my HSDPA when on call as well. It's probably normal.
hey man you know you can only use the phone and the internet at the same time on a 3g conection right? if its not that then i dont know whats up try a new rom i guess
hey i just saw that another person posted in here and had the same problem on a 3g network so i tried it out i can use the phone for data and a call at the same time im using a wm 6.1 rom not sure what one maybe its a problem with the service in your area
Man, some commas would really help..
Anyway.. when you say that u can use phone and internet at the same time - have you actually tried being on the call and browse internet? It does stay connected, but there is no traffic.
I don't think it has ever worked on my Kaiser. It works on my Razr v3xx. Maybe it is 3G. For some reason, now that I put a new 6.1 rom and a new 6.1 compatible radio, my phone is almost only on EDGE when I used to always be on HSDPA. Well, the battery life is better at least. I'll try again when I connect to a 3G network, which used to be always.
I don't think my Razr was limited to simultaneous voice + data only when on 3G.

I've known this too. Tethering and phone work in 3g for me as well.
yeah i did browse to a few sites made sure it was using the data. even made sure it wasnt just cached pages. hey if ur only getting edge maybe its ur radio rom? i was getting that for awhile new rom and it went away
I'm using HSDPA, never 3G (it switches to HSDPA when 3G is available).. it's definitelly faster.. but I have battery charge issues and no traffic while on call. Perhaps 3G doesn't have those issues, I will try it out.
I do get EDGE sometimes, but it's usually same spots. I guess some towers don't have 3G i-net connection, only EDGE. Some places, however, I always get HSDPA (usually where signal strength is high)
sorry i forgot not all 3g is hsdpa i should of clarified we have hsdpa over here
I have the same problem. 3G or H data connections drop when a call is made or received. reconnects when call is over. Anyone with ideas if it is the phone, radio or rom?
Solved!! After some digging around in the forum I found out that setting a limit to disconnect your data connection will cause this problem. If your using kaisertweak go under "Data" set the "disconnect after" to disabled (default) instead of the 1 minute(advised). for some reason this will now allow data and voice to work together and wont drop your data connection while on call anymore. Good luck with your device.

UMTS/3G/HSDPA only! (no GPRS)

Hey guys!
I tried searching the forums on an answer to the question I'm having, but no luck. So.. here goes!
Is there a way to disable GPRS, and have only UMTS (and 3G, HSDPA) connections?
The reason I'm asking this, is that whenever I move into an area without UMTS coverage, it automaticly switches to GPRS. When this happens during a phone call, the call gets dropped! Also, while having a GPRS connection, noone is able to call me, without me noticing.
What I'd like to happen is that when there's no UMTS coverage, there will not be a data connection, at all, not even GPRS. (of course, GSM will be available at all times).
I've tried the utilities Bandswitch and CommMgr Pro (www.commmgrpro.com), but both do not seem to offer this feature.
Any idea's? Thanks in advance!
here you go, this should help( i hope ): Modaco NoData
I guess he'd want it to be automated, so as soon as the radio switches to GSM the connection gets disabled, and when it switches back to UMTS it gets enabled again.
I unfortunately haven't seen anything allowing it so far.
When this happens during a phone call, the call gets dropped!

Can't do much about this, even with no data connection. The radio must disconnect/reconnect from the network to switch mode so the call wil be dropped anyway.
Hey you two, thanks for answering!
Unfortunatly Zee, the NoData utility actually drops the entire connection (3G included).
Maybe it's just not possible.. because to get a 3G/UMTS connection, it starts by making a GPRS connection.. at least, that's how I see it when it's trying to connect.
Still though.. I'm hoping for a way to get this working

No, if your radio is in 3G mode when you establish the connection it should directly connect as 3G without going through GPRS.
It will go to 3G first before switching to HSDPA once a data transfer has started though, maybe that's what you saw.
Ah.. I get it.. thanks Kilrah! So.. it COULD be possible haha..

As mentioned in the thread, if you switch between EDGE/GPRS and 3G, your call and data are both dropped. This is why I stopped doing auto-switch with BandSwitch as I was always getting random call drops as it switched.
ie: I stay on EDGE, but I want to do 3G for a few minutes to download something. Then I get a call. The 10 minute switch timer I set expires, bam, call dropped.

So that's basicly the other way around..
I'd like to avoid EDGE/GPRS all together, my calls not only get dropped when a GPRS connection is established, but also when data is being transferred. In fact, if I'm sending/receiving data on a GPRS connection, people are unable to call me, and I dont even notice.
Yeah.. this is why I really dislike GPRS, and love UMTS

Yep that's normal EDGE behavior, if you have a connection active but no data being transferred at the moment you get a call it will go through, but while data is going through the call gets dropped.

Thanks for confirming that Kilrah, it took me quite a while to figure out why that happens haha.
Will this allow me to set conditions for standard connection and Roaming Connection?
ie. i want to to use my UMTS connection when connected via 3G,
but when roaming, i want it to switch automatically to my alternate connection.
My Carrier : Connection 3services
Roaming : Connection 3netaccess
Is that possible?

3G connection keeps "stopping".

Hi, the search button has failed me. (Two posts in 2 years isnt too bad is it?)
My issues is.... accessing the internet over 3g works fine (and HPSDA) Internet, push mail everything... however, If I drop out of coverage at any time my internet connection vanishes as to be expected. However once connection is re-established still the Internet fails to work. It shows connected to 3G or HPSDA but all websites time out and Activesync reports waiting for network.
The fix is to go Start>Settings>Connections>Connections>Manage my existing connections.
Then I simply "Next" thru all the settings until I get to the end. Press Finish. The data connection drops and the re-establishes and Im working again!?!! Very Annoying!
Im running. Duttys 6.1 Rom (April) and a few bits a pieces (It happens with nothing installed also and with another ROM I tried in desperation!) T-Mobile UK
Does this sound like a Radio issue to you guys? Should I try another Radio or Ditch Dutys Rom? (Which I love)
Any help gratefully accepted.
If Downgraded to WM6 (T-Mobile stock ROM) and Im still having this issue. Very frustrated.
I've found a few posts from the US who seem to have the same sort of issue. 3g does not recover after dropping out of service.
http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/...thread.id=88007&view=by_date_ascending&page=1
Not sure what to do now...
I've had the same sort of thing, I just disconnect (Long press on the red End call key or click on the 3G icon in the top bar and hit disconnect), and let it reconnect.
I have exactly the same issue with mine as well and its only started recently. I too have found the only way to fix it is to go through and 're setup' the connection. Disconnecting and reconnecting, rebooting all seem to do nothing...

Which symbol is most of the time in the top of your screen G/E/3G/H...?! Check this one out also --> my 3G issue
I usually have a H (1 or 2 bars), when walking around my office this can drop to a 3G connection at times.
If I head to the basement, I drop to the Areial symbol or completely disconnect.... When the H or 3G connection starts again my Data connection fails as described above.
(However, I am able to make normal outgoing voice calls, not tried incoming yet)
Ok, I think I have a work around that seems to be working for me.
I set my BAND to GSM only as a test.... and it worked for the whole day, when I dropped into a NO SERVICE area the data connection dropped. When it recovered my data connection was back and working.
Obviously GSM is too slow, so I've now set my BAND settings to;
Network Type - WCDMA
UMTS Band - UMTS(2100+800)
And also diasabled HSDPA.
Currently everything seems ok... Now my connection does not drop from HSDPA>3G>G and back up again it seems to work fine?? Seems the issue may be with switching between the GSM standards??
I realise I wont get coverage in GSM only area's, but consistant data (Push Email) is just as important to me.
I've the same problem, but changing settings to gsm only is no solution. In this case I have to restart my Kaiser to get a new working connection.
I also have many Problems since updating to wm 6.1. Can I downgrade to the original german 6.0 or is there a really stable german 6.1 out there?
I've been getting the same problem as well for the past month or so.
Have been 'fixing' the problem by either putting the phone into airplane mode and back again, or rebooting the phone.
It's getting quite annoying though
Stopping the phone dropping to GSM seems to work for me. Leaving me with HDSPA and 3G.
I'm lucky to be in a good 3G coverage area I guess.
Im not sure who we should log this issue with? Carrier or HTC?
Are we all on T-Mobile having this issue?
i'm on o2 germany and a one day test with t-mobile didn#t show this error
with o2 i have this problem about three times a day
any new ideas since july ?
Sometimes i want to throw my phone away.
I'm still having the problem as well. Has anybody figured out a solution?

Yes it is.
This might not be really relevant but if you actually do want internet connection during a call try one of Haykuro's H Roms on his google page. Reportedly they allow browsing while talking to someone
I don't really want to change the rom there for.
But as it works on Haykuro's builds, maybe a developer could make it work on other builds.
Last time i checked it has to do with the frquencies *sp
Which, in my opinion, no can do

Hehhehe! That's what so great about GSM 3G...data & calls simultaneously! You don't have to have a certain kind of ROM for data to work during a phone call, lol... I have noticed that it will sometimes switch to no connection during a call which would cause a drop out in data. The way this best remedied is to set the phone to 3G only under phone info settings. When I have it set to 3G preferred, I make a call and sometimes it will switch to 2G and therefore, losing my data connection (2G doesn't allow data & calls simultaneously). This does this even when 3G is still available. So if you're in a good area where 3G is prominent, switching settings to 3G will improve many things, just not your battery life.

This is normal. 2G or EDGE cannot handle calls and data at the same time. 3G can handle calls and data at the same time.

wifi Calling problems.... (help? pls?)

First off, I can make outgoing calls 100% of the time, and never have any problem except a split-second delay (as expected with VOIP)
Receiving calls though......
First, wifi calling randomly turns off, with a note I find later about "wifi calling is not available at this location" ---- yes, I have poor reception, and I know wifi calling requires an always-active GPS signal so rain or clouds can kill it --- but it never turns back on once the storm/cloud/whatever is gone, it stays turned off until I manually turn it back on.
Second, even when it is turned on, I will randomly get no notification - no ring, no vibrate, the screen stays black, and no "miss call" notification, I just get told later that someone tried to call me and it went straight to voicemail.
Third, when it does register an incoming call, I will swipe to answer and the phone app will... kinda half-freeze... it acts like it's trying to answer the call, where the red end button appears, but all the other buttons are greyed out except message. It's in a strange limbo-like state of being answered and not... when this happens usually the other party will connect and can hear me, but whatever they say never reaches me.
Fourth, I answer the call, everything seems fine, I say hello and just hear my own voice echoing, and even though I answered the call, they never connect and end up on voicemail.
I know that WiFi calling is a "new technology" (even if we've been using VOIP for years....) and Sprint hasn't "ironed out the bugs" yet, but is there anything I can do to improve it?
I have tried doing a hard reset on the phone, updating PRL/settings/OS, changing the phone data mode from LTE to CDMA, sprint tech changed out my SIM card for a new one, airplane mode (which doesn't work because it turns off GPS)... none of it works and I still miss a good 60%+ of my calls... any other suggestions?

do u have a vpn active?
plus i dont think GPS has anything to do with "WIFI" calling.
as long as wifi is connected to a proper wifi network, that should be all you need.( other than if a VPN is activated or wifi network is congested/ to many AP ssids with overlapping channels, then it should work fine.)
I did before the hard reset (one-dot), I dont now. so it didn't seem to matter...

You have to have an active GPS signal for "e911 services" --- yes the app claims you can set your location manually, but doing so does nothing and as soon as my phone loses cell/GPS reception, wifi calling goes off and will NOT come back on till reception is restored (also I've used two of Sprints Femtocells and both of them required an active GPS for e911 so....)

yeah.... since about the start of this year my LTE speeds have gone down (though only in actual use! --- run speedtest and magically I have like 50mbps, even though I can't watch youtube even at 144p without it buffering and asking my phone "Alexa Next Track" returns an error about connectivity) Also my reception in my home has gotten worse in the last couple months --- for the last 17.5 years I've been able to make/receive calls on sprint over normal cellular without issue as long as it wasn't raining (yes, I've been with Sprint for almost long enough to raise a child.... they started out as the best carrier in my area, believe it or not), but now even though my phone reports 2 bars (out of like 8 or 10), I recieve almost no calls, and drop outgoing ones very frequently unless I switch to WiFi Calling.
So... yeah... I figured it was actually bad implementation on either Samsung or Sprint's part, but I was hoping there was something I could do to improve it....
