Anyone using this successfully ? I'm looking to buy this phone, want to make sure someone is happy with the phone on the U.S. T-mobile network first.
Works fine!
Bought mine out of Hong Kong (unlocked, of course), inserted my T-Mobile SIM card, made a few modifications to accomodate T-MobileWeb, and I was up and running in about 5 minutes.
No problems
I got an unlocked Kaiser. Popped in my sim card and phone and Total Internet settings were ready in seconds. Never a problem since.
bought mine in september..using the tmobile blackberry plan(cheaper same speed as total internet)... sets up the settings for you.... pop the sim in turn it on no mods necessary..... upgrade to 6.1 though ;-) threaded text is nice
yep, my tilt works good... Called up ATT and told them i going over seas and BAM! Unlocked in like 2 minutes... configured it for Tmobile and works Marvelous.

Total Internet plan (w/ free hotspot) is only 19.99 which it is same as the full Blackberry data plan.
Too bad that Starbucks is going to use ATT for their wifi service soon.

Howdy,
I currently have a Cingular 8125 and for the last year I've been using an unlimited data plan for $19.95. I think this data plan is only for cell phones (not PDA phones) and I honestly can't remember how I managed to pull this off. I think my last phone was a cell phone and they just transfered the plan over.
Problem is that when I buy the AT&T Tilt, I'm assuming they'll only offer me the unlimited PDA data plan, which is much more expensive.
So here's the question - any reason why I can't just pop out my existing SIM card and move it over? Do I need a new SIM card for the 3G functionality? Any way to move over my existing data plan?
I remember purchasing the Cingular 8125 a long time ago w/ a medianet plan I believe $19.99. The representative didn't mention anything about unlimited PDA data plan. So if you still have the $19.99 media plan, you should be fine with it if using the Tilt. I guess it all comes down to how much you use their data...
If your existing sim card is 3g capable stating that you got it last year, I'm guessing toward the end of the year, then you should be fine. If not, you will need to obtain a new 3g sim card from ATT...
hope this helps you...
at last a question i can answer lol.
There are a few ways to go about this
1. buy the kaiser/tilt/8925 outright pop in your sim ATT wont change a thing as they dont track the phone u are using for the most part
2. you can try to do a upgrade to get it cheaper the only problem with this is if you run into someone who is doing there job and checking to make sure you have the correct stuff for your plan. if you go about this route when you go into do a upgrade just tell them you want to upgrade your phone sign a new contract but you dont want anything changed on your plan. most times this will work.
other then that thats about it. Only other thing is you do need a 3g sim if yours is not already it will say right on it if its 3g or not. At a ATT store they norm give them away with upgrades as well as at places like radioshack. ATT sometimes will give you a new free sim if you say yours is lost or not working other places like RS just charge you 25 as thats what ATT charges them for them.

Cool - just checked my SIM card and it says '3G' on the back. I was going to upgrade to the Tilt via my corporate Web site, but that will force me to set up a whole new plan w/ the unlimited PDA package. Instead I'll try calling AT&T and doing the upgrade over the phone. I'll post back here to let you know if it worked.
Thanks for the info!
You can change it at any time....
On the AT&T account maintenance website, you can change your data plan to the Unlimited MEdiaNet for $19.95 if they make you sign up for a PDA plan when you get your Tilt. I did it last week.

Which site is that - just the main AT&T wireless site where you view your account details? And it lets you change to MediaNet, even if you have a PDA? Nice....
I am a customer with Rogers of Canada ...
got a free/unactivated SIM card ( came with my S621 ) ... I kept on using my old card from way back.
This new free card that came with the S621...it doesn't say "3G" on it ... just the Rogers symbol and 5 lines of 4 digits codes on the left side ...
when flip over to other side ( the gold contact side ) ... it said " HSDPA" ... what does that equivalent to ??
Found the answer to my "HSDPA" question:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSDPA
~~~
I have a question ...
I've been using the old card for the last few years .. this card does not have the HSPDA/3G imprinted on it ... but if I want to switch and let's say I told them my old card is damaged and wanted to use this new highspeed capable card ... will there be activation charges ??
other then what's labeled ... both card look exactly the same on the gold side
I tried that, got a confirmation email, but the service never activated.
When I called AT&T they said that that service was not available for me because I had a PDA phone and I shouldn't have been able to select it, much less get a confirmation email.
Tried it again two weeks later and the same thing happened.
Hi,
I've just got my Tytn II and bought seperately a T-Mobile UK SIM to use it with. When I switch the unit on I get a warning message saying "Smartchip not provisioned MM#2". I can't then connect to the network- I just the "no service" message.
The phone detects all the available networks fine, and I swapped in an O2 SIM from my old universal, and it worked immediately- so the Kaiser is working fine.
I tried Googling the error without success, so you guys are pretty much my last resort... I see from this forum that some people seem to have it working on T-Mobile UK.
I hope it's something really stupid that I'm not doing! Does anyone have any ideas on this?
I've been reading these forums for a few years now, but this is my first actual post. I know if anyone can help, you guys can
Tim
I have my TyTN II working on T-Mobile fine. I just put the SIM card in and it worked.
Maybe you have an old SIM which is not fully compatible. How old is the SIM.
It's a brand new SIM, only arrived on Friday.
I'm waiting for another unlocked phone to try the SIM on to see if it is defective. THanks for the reassurance that yours is working- it gives me some hope!
So may be T-Mobile's reasons for delaying the Vario III were actually true!!!
Mine's working fine
Old SIM as well, around 18 months old!
I can also say that my T-Mobile sim is working fine and this is about 14months old, just put it in and installed my T-Mob 3g/mms setting myself and all is well.
Can browse the web receive push email and send mms no problem at all.
must be the new sim, try activating the sim on another phone first if it has not been activated yet, and then once activated and working, put it back in the kaiser. does seem very strange though.
Same here, auto-configure settings working perfectly!
Although it seems to have setup a separate connection for Picture messaging... has yours done that?! Can i just delete that and tell it to use the normal 3G connection? :S
Try T-Mob support
Either take it back to the shop or contact them via the website, I've found them quite responsive on the few occasions I've used them.
Real good phone, ... but nothings perfect
bij Anonymous - maandag 10 september 2007
Its the best ppc i've had, but not flawless like everyone loves to say. 1. The slider is implemented backwards. No, this is not just something trivial because the rotate screen button and the camera both rotate the screen wrong. Also its not convenient for right-handed people. 2. The stylus should drop in at the top, not the bottom. 3. There is no hardware control for the volume. 4. You have to buy an adapter to use regular headphones. 5. Google maps keeps losing the gps signal (although tomtom works fine). Also t-mobile can't take advantage of this phones 3g capabilities which is unfortunate. Every other review is going to say this phone is the greatest invention since god, but I just wanted to point out its not perfect. That said, I am still happy with my purchase and would recommend it.
PLease note the text in Red, what might that mean ??
Maybe it was referring to US T-Mobile, since it is supposed to use 1700 when the 3G is going live?
I haven't seen a lack of 3g mentioned for T-Mobile UK, but may be the Netherlands are different. My problem is more that I can't even get it to connetct to the network... I'm going to try the SIM in a different phone tonight and see if it's broken.
Churchill,
That is not true!
I use T-Mobile NL and subscribed to "Pocket Internet Totaal Plus" :
- Max 192 Kbit/sec download
- Max 32 Kbit/sec upload (if I am not mistaken)
- 19.95 euro / month
- Unlimited usage
My SIM card is very old, I have been using it since few years ago.
The T-Mobile NL 3G is working just fine.
I got the "3G" icon all the time and managed to test the connection with dslreports.com and got 144 Kbit/sec.
Yesterday I tested the internet connection sharing, so I connected the Kaiser to the internet and plugged it to the laptop.
It worked fine! The speed was constant 30 KBytes/sec (tested by downloading big file).
So, I confirmed you that T-Mobile NL is working fine.
PS: One thing that still puzzled me, why dont I get HSDPA (3.5G) connection??? The "H" icon. I tought that T-Mobile has HSDPA already.
Maybe if I subscribed to "Internet Totaal Plus" (1.8 Mbit/sec, 69.95 euro / month) I will get HSDPA ... but, it is toooooo expensive!
Gogol, thatnx for the reasurance.. I am right now on the Pocket internet Totaal woth 64kbps and once I prolong I want to take the Plus version for 19,95 since the first year is half the price.
I beleive that H icon shows only if you go to HSDPA speeds. I was able to reach those speeds of up to 1Mbps on my current subscription (pocket internet Totaal) because there was a whole in the ssytem by T-Mobile. If you get the Pocket Internet Totaal in T-Mobile shop (mind you onlyu t-mobile shop) you were able to just surf in HSDPA. That lasted about 10 months for me after which they capped the connection to 64 Kbps so I am a real unhappy man right now, so Once the Keiser is availbale by my reseller I am going to take the Plus version for 19,50 a month.....
Gogol,
Are you Dutch??
Original Issue fixed
Just a note to report that my original problem seems to be fixed. I just put the SIM card in another phone and it worked. Then transferred it back to my Kaiser and the error had gone.
I have no UMTS, but I'm pretty sure I just haven't found the right setting. Does anyone know if T-mobile UK has HSDPA yet?
Churcill, No I am not Dutch. But I live and work here in the Netherlands for couple of years already. Love the country
T-Mobile UK allows HSDPA although dependent on what handset you signed up for with them you may not have it enabled on your account. For example if you bought say a Vario II from them then this is now enabled by default on the account. You may need to speak to 150 to get it enabled.
I am using Vario II on T-Mobile UK, it DOES have HSDPA, I got the H icon. You need to ask them to activate the HSDPA service for you if they haven't done so.
Ah, I see .. no I am not Russian Gogol was picked out of nowhere
The Pocket Internet Totaal Plus (PITP) is quite nice, although the network latency is still pretty much high. Sometimes lagging for several seconds
T-Mobile NL is still the cheapest 3G provider, right? I havent checked around yet (will do after this).
Ok, here's the situation i've run into w/ AT&T. I used to have the old data/message package media max unlimited i believe it was called, where it was unlimited data, plus unlimited messages for 39.99. I guess this only worked w/ the 8125 and possibly the 8525. Is there anyway to get this package to work w/ the 8925/Tilt, either the phone or the network recognizes the package, and AT&T it still showing i own an 8125 on their end. Any workarounds?
AT&T really has no idea whqat phone you are using. I own a blackjack and Tilt and go back and forth all the time, never causing any issue. I, too, have the media max unlimited package and never had any issues. Just throw your sim card into the Tilt and you should be fine.
Was the 8125 able to do 3G? What's the sim look like? Does it say 3g across the front?
The problem may be the sim. It works with older phones but won't work on new phones.
n/m i figured it out....it was def a 3G chip in my phone before, because i remember cingular sent me a new sim in the mail nearly a year ago. But here was the trick, in the tilt under the gprs authentication it was under CHAP, i switched it to PAP, which was what my 8125 was under, and the net works now. It was a lucky guess on my part, i just went to that immediately. Haha, thanks for the help though
Who has it working? I put my SIM in from my Tilt and I get a SIM not found. I put in my T-Mobile SIM and I get a SIM not found. I hear of people using these in the states. Help a brother out and tell me what you had to do to get it going.
Thanks in advance
ATT Working on Touch Diamond
I have an ATT sim card and took it out of my Tilt to my Orbit 2 and into my TD. It automatically set it up. I had to do nothing to it. Worked out of the box. I dont know what you have to do. It should set up and start working. Did you get the option to set up for ATT????? I guess it has to read the SIM card to be able to do that...Check again the orientation of the Sim... I put mine in backward first time.
Are you getting 3G on the att sim? If so. what part of the country are you in?
are you getting a good reception for voice? how fast is the data connection?
Satisfied so far
My sim worked right away, not sure why it does not recognize yours.
T-Mobile Data: $20.00 plan: Does not pick up 3G just Edge; however browsing is pretty quick for Edge connection.
T-Zones: worked just as fast as the Data plan, however it would not Update weather nor download emails.
Voice Calls: Great reception.
Phone works at decent speed overall with the tweaks posted here in the forums, cant wait for custom roms...
No, problem
Working with both ATT and T-Mobile
I picked mine up in Chicago today from www.welectronics.com. Make sure you call first to have it in stock. Mine works with both ATT and T-Mobile on Edge. I have not played with setting but on the phone settings, you can select 1700 as one of the options. Perhaps it might work for T-Mo 3G? I am in Chicago so I can't test that.
This sucks. I think there is a problem with my unit. I have tried 6 SIMs and it doesn't see any of them. I tried new ones from AT&T and T-Mobile and still no joy.
I kinda regret trying to get the best mobile available early. I should have waited.
Sounds like a hardware fault
I have a TMobile (UK) Diamond which is about to come out of the contract.
My wife who has about a year of her 18month contract with 'Three UK'.
She has a rubbish phone and would like to take use my Diamond on Three.
I know I'll have to get it unlocked first...
What I'm not sure about is will it 'just work' on Three without any problems... IE will her messaging settings and internet access settings be set up automatically when I insert her SIM card, or am I going to have more hurdles to jump to get it working?
i'd be grateful for any advice on this.
