g3: reverting to carrier rom - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario Software Upgrading

In the wiki, there is section that describes how to revert to the carrier rom. But the IP/SPL for AT&T is labelled as G4. Will that work for a G3 or will it create a brick ?
Thanks

It all depends on your device, which device you have, G3 or G4 ? if you have a G3 device then you don't need to flash back that IPL/SPL mentioned in the wiki as its for G4 phones, just download your phones official carrier rom from its website and flash to revert back. There's no need to flash any ipl/spl ,but if you have a G4 and you have done 'HardSPL',which replaces the original ipl/spl with a patched ipl/spl and have upgraded to any wm6 roms, then if you want to revert back to official rom,its required to first remove 'HardSPL' and flash the original ipl/spl and then flash the official rom.
Well,if you have G4 but have upgraded to wm6 through 'SoftSPL' method,it doesn't replaces the original ipl/spl,but just flashes the Rom files,ok
Therefore,as you have a G3 phone, you are safe to flash back the official rom without flashing the IPL/SPL mentioned in wiki,ok
Cheers!

Upgrade to the latest ROM. If it doesnt pick up signals, just flash it with the Cingular 1.x radio
at first: flash any official 2.x ROM
second: Flash the 2.x ROM, what you need
Follow instructions by Dr. P below and good luck! It should work if you don't lost any step.

Can you install a Rom posted as a "g4 rom" to a g3

I have seen some roms posted as "rom for G4" the question is, can I install that to my wizard.
I did all the things that I was asked, when I determined what my wizard was (g3) and unblocked cid succesfully (tested).
In this case I want a Rom in sapnish theta has been posted as for G4, do y take the risk?
Thanks!
Sure you can install the ROM into G4 Wizard if the "rom for G4" does not contain IPL/SPL.
Yes, you can flash a G4 ROM on a G3. There is actually no such thing as a G4 ROM, just a G4 flashable ROM which means that it doesn't contain an IPL, SPL or extended ROM which can destroy a G4 device. Since you have a G3 you can flash any wizard ROM you want.

Well, there's still some risk that the nk.nbf can contain only IPL/SPL for G4
The best thing is to use ShellTool or WST that let you know what is inside a nk.nbf... better safe than sorry
Thanxs
Thanxs guys, I will try it out!
OK, I didn't realize that anyone was sticking the G4 IPL/SPL files in their cooked roms. If those files are included and flashed to a G3 phone, wouldn't it just ignore them the way it does when they are included in an official ROM? I assumed that during a flash a G3 device would ignore the IPL/SPL files marked as 2 (90000000-IPL_2).

I don't know any chef including IPL/SPL in their releases. Last one i saw doing that was Molski with his WM5 aku 2 and 3.
I think bootloader is prepared to check if the files to be flashed are good to be used or not but what about older bootloaders? When there was no G4? Anyone tested it to see if they recognize the difference?
I may have to try that out and see now that I have a kaiser and my wizard is just going to be my test phone. I was up all night trying to get a rom to flash though that I was having problems with so it may be a day or 2 before I decide to start flashing again.

g4 brick danger

I just succesfully (hardspl) cid-unlocked my G4 wizard thanks to all the information I found in this forum. One question seems unanswered: how dangerous can available upgrade roms be? In other words: how can one be sure not to use a G3 rom on his G4 device?
A G4 safe ROM contains ONLY the OS and Splash screens, it MUST NOT contain any IPL/SPL, or it will brick your device. A good way to find out if a particular ROM is G4 safe, is to simply ask the creator of the ROM what it contains, just the OS and splashes, or OS, splashes and SPL/IPL.
Well, all the latest wm6 & 6.1 custom build roms are safe for both the devices G3 and G4,they are built with no IPL/SPL included in them, secondly, its clearly mentioned with every rom that its safe and doesn't include IPL/SPL in it.Just read the instructions posted with the Rom. But all the official stock roms do have IPL/SPL in them but they are safe to flash as they have IPL/SPL for both the version,at the time of flash, the RUU will determine the version and will only flash appropriate IPL/SPL to the phone. The network services do not offer seperate specific Roms for both devices, they only offer one collective bundle for upgrade for both version having IPL/SPL for both.

As much as I understand both very easy to understand explaination above of "how to tell which is G3 or G4" what about wording that isn't as clear "No SPL means that you can flash other SPL or your choice" does that mean IPL/SPL and does that mean that the Rom has only Splash Screens?
Also Roms that have WWE and not CE OS, is that another sign of G3 or G4?
Sorry...don't want to brick my phone. Don't know the lingo to well.

Nopes!
You misunderstood it all. IPL/SPL are Bootloaders of the phone. IPL : Initial Program Loader -Initial hardware bootup. Just like a BIOS. SPL : Secondary Program Loader it Jumps in the OS after Access the DOC and also starts the radio module and Loads the actual Windows (OS). IPL/SPL are the boot loader of your phone, much like the BIOS is the boot loader for your PC.
How to tell the difference in G3 and G4,is the difference in the DOC (Device on chip) version M-System Flash Chip with different IPL/SPL (Bootloaders). IPL/SPL(Bootloaders) are all together different for G3 and G4 devices. You cannot flash G3 IPL/SPL on a G4 device or vice versa, it'll 'Brick' the phone.
'With No IPL/SPL in the Rom' means it doesn't have any IPL/SPL in it,therefore its safe to flash to any Device, regardless being G3 or G4,as it'll do no harm to the phone. So all the latest custom roms do not have any IPL/SPL in them.
Well,Roms not only contain Splash screens but actually have OS (Windows),Extended_Rom with applications/programs and Radio Rom (GSM),which are flashed to the phone during upgrade.
WWE (World Wide English) and CE (Windows Embedded) doesn't differentiate between G3 or G4.
Hope you got the point !

Can i reistall old i-mate rom after 6.1 ?!

Hello
Thank for all of you guys, I've converted to windows mobile 6.1 on k-jam.
I have downloaded i-mate offecial rom from i-mate site ... can i reinstall it ?? will I re-unlock CID on my device ?
Thankssssssss very much
Reverting back to official rom all depends on the DOC Chip version of the phone. If its a G3,there's no problem, yes! you can easily flash back to Official stock rom anytime you want, just hook up the phone with pc and run the RUU in the rom to start flashing.
Butmif its a G4,and you upgraded through 'SoftSPL',still there's no further procedure to reflash official rom, just hook up and run the Rom,coz,SoftSPL doesn't replace original official IPL/SPL of the phone.
Well,if you upgraded your G4 device through 'HardSPL',than, first you'll have to remove HardSPL,flash back to original official IPL/SPL,which were there at the time of applying HardSPL and only then its possible to revert back to official rom,Coz,HardSPL replaces the official IPL/SPL with patched IPL/SPL and if flashed the official rom, which has official IPL/SPL,will Brick the phone.
G3 device once CID unlocked will remain unlocked for all times, whether you revert back to official rom or not,Putting official rom again will not apply CID lock again.

Unable to load ROM on a G4 with SPL/IPL 3.08.001

Hello Forum
Hoping people can assit me with a issue i am having with upgrading my G4 Wizard to WM6
My G4 was on a T-Mobile ROM, which i then upgraded to the latest T-Mobile ROM which changed my IPL/SPL to 3.08 when before it was on a 2.XX.
I tried to upload a WM6 ROM when the flush just stalls on the boatloader and onscreen its shows that the ROM images is not compatiable etc...
i then flushed the ROM to a WM5 custom ROM which i found on the formum but searching for 3.08 ROM and tested and worked.
I then tried a WM6 ROM and still having issues, hoping someon can shed some light on this issue i have. I have checked the forums for this issue, but seem to be hitting a brick wall, and hoping someone may be help me kick the wall down.
PS this is my first thread, as i am a newbie,I have read about the different ROMs and how to flush a ROM, and how to check if the wizard is CID/SIM unlocked
Unlocked CID and SIM
IPL:> 3.08.001
SPL:> 3.08.001
GSM:> 02.69.11
OS:> 2.26.10.2
much appricated...
First, check again if your IPL/SPL version ends with 001 not 0001. If it is .001, then it is a G3, not G4.
If it is a G3, flash Button's ROM and use Wizard Service Tool to CID unlock it.
Or if it is a G4, flash with your original stock ROM and install HardSPL.
