hey guys sorry for the dumb question but i installed the new opera beta and now my video links (flash video bundle) opens with opera (doesnt work with opera). How do i change it back to pie?
thanx

Same problem here...
Any solutions?
Thanks

I was looking for answer to this too...

Take a look Schap's advanced config 1.1... it has a file association tool that may be what you need. Use search function, easy to find

File associations & correct image & arguments can be a task easier said than done. I would be more than happy to post the correct registry changes if you want t go there.
However, for a quick & easy solution you can use Sprite back up if you have a somewhat recent back up (like everyone should).
To do this just launch Sprite in advanced mode & select a partial restore. The only file you want to select is called system settings & it is a sub-item of system data.
This will restore your file associations without messing up you programs or other file settings & will leave you with a fuly functioning Opera without sacrificing associations like html, hml, xml, etc. that are better associated to PIE for many. Try this! it works! If you realy want to modify the registry by hand, let me know & I'll post the settings for WWE ROM's

.cab queries

Hi,
I need some assistance. I am currently cooking my extended rom. My Extended rom does not have enough space so, i am putting some of my MUST HAVE softwares in my storage so that it installs after a HARD RESET.
But, most .cab files will auto delete upon launch. Is there any way to make
it not delete ? Kindly assist.
Thanx a million
You can avoid the CAB files being deleted by making them read-only.
Well i mean that there is a Registry hack that will not delete .cab's on installation, but you would have to make a .cab with that registry setting and install it as the first thing after hardreset, although i dont think it will work since the registry is already loaded, and the new setting require a reboot to work.
Look in Wiki for registry hacks.
So why dont you just Write protect the .cab's that you want to hold on to

i have tried that but, dont work
All my "wanna hang on to" .cab's are write protected, and non of them get deleted upon installation.
Manuel installation that is.

I have room enoughf in my ExtRom, so I have never auto installed from other than the ExtRom.
But I'm almost 100% sure that there was a topic on auto installing from \Storage (Card) sometime ago.
Maybee youll find some info in the Wiki

Wait a day or two, maybe someone who knows come along.
You can use a software name Cabinst wich let you install a cab without deleting it.
Easy.
Hi,
Easiest way is to make cab read only. Browse the storage card using PC via activesync. Right click on cab file. Go to properties and make it readonly.
You can also change the deafult beahvior of Instal by changing registry key.

in browsing my editor i stumbled upone these :
Code:
[\HKLM\SOFTWARE\Apps\Microsoft Application Installer]
fAskDest=0
fAskOptions=0
fEnablCef=0
nDynamicDelete=2
Supported="PALM PC"
* fAskDest=1 gives you a popup when you install a CAB so you can install on Storage Card for example
* fAskOptions=1 asked before overwriting, haven't found out if/what other options
*fEnableCef : I haven't messed around with that
* nDynamicDelete=0 and the CAB file remains, =1 it disappears but what the difference with the default value 2 is I couldn't figure out.
So if anyone else wants to experiment with it and post their findings
I searched Google but all I could find was about fAskDest

keep the ext rom empty,
after reboot hack the reg to point to new area.
Run the autorun from threre.
Have all files as read only.

Only problem is that all cabs are installed in the default location.
I have yet to get cabinstall to run in batch mode using the nscript tool.
Hope its what you are after

for the guys that flash frequently, how2setup ur stuf fastr?

I want to try summiters new 2.3 rom, however, i have been flashin my cingular 8125 about 3 times a week, and im sick of setting it up from scratch each time. is there something out there or can you tell me what files i need to back-up to maintain settings for:
-what speed dials are assigned
-voice dials i have saved
-my tcpmp settings
-my browser cookies so i dont have to relog in to all my porn sites
-my settings for what alert tones to use and when to use them
is it possible to back any of that crap up and restore it after a new flash? thanks pimps!
Bah, no responses. I was hoping that there was a "backup my settings" app
WELL if you are using the same rom version each time which idont think you are. then spb backup is the way to go
i mean it costs a little and you can backup your sys data as well as your settings txt msgs and **** like that. Now if you upgrade to a different rom version everytime then its not likely that you will want to back up system data as it could screw up your wm5 and then you have to reflash again.
theres also sprite too but never tried it
tried spb and it doesnt work that great. it almost works perfectly but it doesnt hmm i might retry it tho cuz i think you can specify what **** to backup
http://www.spritesoftware.com/
I've got SPB too, but I've never reflashed. Under the Custom Backup you can choose 4 things-PIM, Tasks, Email & System Data. Does anybody know if it can use everything but the "System Data" setting to restore the PIM, tasks & email after a ROM upgrade? Would it save the registry changes too? Thanks.

yes u can restore the 3 things but not the registry because it is saved on the "System Data" portion of the backup.
and gizm0luvsu is correct if you restore from a full backup it will revert the rom [os] to the one u made de backup regardless of the rom you have currently.
You can backup your voice tag database between hard resets by copying the file CommandModel1.bin found under the windows folder to your pc or to the memory card. After rom upgrade copy it back to your windows folder and all your voice tags are back!
Create backup of windows\start menu - most programs that are on the storage card dont need a reinstall.
Create copy of pim.vol in the root directory of the device - contains contact and appt information. After flash change the new pim.vol to pim.vo and copy and paste old pim.vol (use total commander or gsfinder file explorers for this) and soft reset and you will have info back.
Create backup of windows\favorites - for all your internet favorites.
That will make restore a bit quicker than otherwise.
thanks meschle, thats what i was looking for!
Is it possible to create a *.reg file like you would in windows that can just be executed on your device importing all you registry changes. I'm not talking about a full backup...only a file that says change this value, change that value, add this dword, etc.
Possible?
Yes you can use the export function of phm reg editor (or others) of the keys you wanted to save and restore them later.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've searched the forums and google for an answer, and haven't found one:
I've gone to the PHM website: http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/
Went to download, but I don't see a version for the OMAP processor and/or Windows Mobile 5 (WM5).
I tried using their MSI windows installer version, but when it launched ActiveSync's Add / Remove programs, PHM wasn't listed as an available application to install.
Which version do I download for use on the 8125?
Thanks, Mike

Thanks Dark, works like a champ, or rather like a registry editor champ

How To : Get session based net access for Java Apps

The problem
You have a Java application that makes use of the internet, eg Opera Mini or Google Local Maps, and you are finding that whenever it wants access the net you get prompted with a Yes/No dialog to either allow or disallow it to go through. With Opera Mini, this would occur everytime you clicked on a link to goto another page and in Google Local Maps it would happen everytime you pressed a button to scroll the map. Obviously this gets very frustrating as it slows down your use of the application.
This method of permitting net access each time it is required is known as "Oneshot".
The solution
The other method is "Session" where users are only prompted once per run of the application. However, some ROMs don't have this option under the security settings in the Midlet Manager despite being a newer version.
After much experimentation by a number of users, including myself, we have managed to determine that the rofs_target.zip file found in \Application Data\Tao\intent can be overwritten with one from a ROM where the "Session" option was available and it will give you this option in the ROM you are currently using.
1) Copy the attached cab file to anywhere on your device.
2) Make sure that you are not currently running any Java apps and that Midlet Manager has been closed down.
3) Execute the cab file and wait for it to finish.
4) Start up Midlet Manager and tap and hold on any app icon and then choose Security. Under Net Access you should now see the option of "Session".
Notes
This has only been tested on Wizard ROMs where Tao-Group's intent Midlet Manager is included. Whether it works on other devices that also have the same Midlet Manager has not been determined but other users are certainly welcome to try. The only thing the cab file does is overwrite (or create if it doesn't exist) \Application Data\Tao\intent\rofs_target.zip. It does not touch the registry or any other system related files or folders. As such it shouldn't break anything major if it doesn't work. All you would have to do is delete that zip file.
Having only been a recent "discovery", this method of getting the Session option back isn't refined as of yet. Collectively, we went through at least 3 other ways of doing it first, involving more files and doing it manually, before we arrived at the current cab installation. We may delve deeper into the folder structure found in the rofs_target.zip file to find out which file contains the appropriate setting so that we can make the solution even more compact. As such, this will be an ongoing thread and this post will be updated to include any developments.
Thanks to BAKup, gilbreen, aron7awol, gamescan
A little more information on the options this CAB adds. On a clean install you will get the following options in the Tao Java MIDlet Manager:
Net Access: No, Oneshot, Session (Session is default)
Local Connectivity: No, Oneshot, Session, Blanket (Session is default)
App Auto Run: No, Oneshot, Session (Session is default)
Messaging: No, Oneshot, Session (Oneshot is default)
Multimedia Recording: No, Oneshot (Oneshot is default)
Now, if you already have MIDlets installed you may have to remove them and reinstall to get the new options to show up. Also, you will want to make sure that the MIDlet Manager is NOT running when you install the CAB. Best advice is to do a soft reset and then install the patch immediately on boot. If you're customizing your Extended ROM, then slap it in there.
NOTE: This patch only fixes the security settings issue with the MIDlet Manager. It does not add JPEG support.
Seems to work well enough on the Hermes.
Thanks
Hi newbe from the UK here...
I have a MDA Pro with T-Mobile with the same problem, tried the fix above, copied & installed successfully... but still as before: only "Oneshot" and "No" options!!!
This is driving me insane!
Any help appreciated!
Yey! It works now!!
Just had to uninstall and reinstall the MIDlets and voila!
Reread gamescan's message
Thanks very much to all
Excellent; it works perfectly on my T-Mobile MDA Vario II with Opera Mini.
Hermes with T-mobile UK WM6 update
I was using the cab on my device (T-mobile Vario II) when it was running WM5. Having applied the recent t-mobile WM6 update, I found that the cab refused to install (citing that it was not meant for my device).
Bad times.
However, managed to force it back onto my device by opening the cab in post #2 (java_session_fix_-_june_15_2006.cab) in winzip and extract the file 00cab172.001 from it. I renamed the extracted file as rofs_target.zip and manually placed it in the location in post #1 on the device (\Application Data\Tao\Iintent) - I kept the original one backed up just in case - it was substantially larger than the replacement so you never know.
And now, once again, I can tag applets as having session based net access again!
Good times!
T-Mobile MDA pro now works with sessions
Hi
I spent ages looking for a solution this is great, I use my MDA for Betfair and could not use Betfair mobile as it kept asking for permission every page update, now it just keeps refreshing prices every 5 seconds.
A huge thankyou...

start menu

how do i clear the list of previously used programs as my start list seems to be overloading itself
i get it open once ok then open and its all white ands then i have to scroll forever to find the thing i want
Hi, there is an option in Kaiser Tweaks from Chainfire that does clears the start menu:
Download the KaiserTweak.exe from Chainfires thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333898
Get the newest Kaisertweak.xml from Nikagls thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349009
Copy both files on your storage card e.g. in Program Files\KaiserTweak and run the exe: Go down the tweak list to Tools / Empty Start Menu, enable it and do a soft reset.
And there are alot of other great tweaks in this program, very easy to use. Be aware many tweaks need a soft reset afterwards to work.
!!! Many thanks to Chainfire and Nikagl !!!
Greetz,
Hans Olo
yeah i was hoping i could do that without installing something else as i think HTC plus created the problem in the first place
Hmm, I never heard of the start menu entry for previously used programs can overload itself. Mine has a maximum of 6 entries and the oldest entry gets overwritten by the newest. Sorry, seems I cannot help you with that overload issue, but I am sure there will be someone in this great forum.
Nevertheless, give KaiserTweak a try. It don't has to be installed (just copied) and it is a tool to easily optimize registry settings. A must have in my opinion, but of course it's to you... ;-)
Hans Olo
I took it a step further and manually hard reset the device clearing all the data and resetting everything
I did not have much on it, plus everything is backed up anyway.
All sorted now.

[GUIDE] Translate a ROM into german and maybe any other language (experimental)

Hi folks.
At first i have to say, that this is a somehow unclean and tricky solution, but it works somehow and maybe it can be improved.. There are some threads on this forum, which deal with that, but i'm going to describe, what i did, to get it working.
You need:
- The new Touch IT 2.1-ROM (don't know yet, if it works with other ROMs - think only if it's the same build)
- A backup from a german ROM (mine was made by SPB-backup from the cmEX-image, also don't know if other ROMs/backup tools work)
- The language files from here (German.rar)
- A registry editor (I used PHM regedit)
First i took all the mui-files out, by using the Windows search and copying them into another folder, then i transferred them via ActiveSync into the \Windows folder.
Then I put a link to the registry tool and to the explorer and PHM regedit in the TF3D programs panel (you'll need that, because after changing the registry to use german language your start menu will be screwed up for some reason and you can't access any program anymore).
Now you have to change two registry values and optionally set your region in the regional settings:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\MUI]
"SysLang"="1031" (for german)
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\MUI]
"CurLang"="1031"
-> It's time to do a soft-reset and you'll notice, that the pin-dialogs and so on are in german.
Go to the TF3D programs panel (as i said: Start menu will be screwed up - there are links for programs and settings, but they won't work) and start explorer to execute your backup.
After that your ROM should be fully german.
This is probably not a very good solution and it's kind of buggy, but it is a start..
I couldn't get it until know, how to cook the language files into a ROM (tried it with extracting the new Touch IT 2.1 and inserting the files from German.rar, but ended up with the device starting up and showing a black screen all the time).
If somebody could help me out with that, i would, if i am allowed, make a german version of the Touch IT 2.1 ROM.
Any additions or corrections appreciated!!
