Sure.
Pick apart the ROM, remove the parts you don't want, recook and reflash it.
Seriously, that's the only way to remove something that is baked into a ROM.
It's nice to have a bunch of apps preloaded into a ROM, but I personally prefer to have a 'lite' ROM and just install stuff after the flash. It takes more time to get everything back up to where I want it, but it makes keeping the device up to date much easier.

Need to delete some pre installed programs

Hi I don't want to install some programs like calculator, clearvue, file explorer etc( i have other alt progs). These comes pre installed with rom. What i need to do so that i can save some memory. Do i need to customize the ROM? Thanks in advance for your help.
even if you cook a rom to remove those file you aren't freeing up memory that you can use unless you add files into the Rom.
Rom is seperate from the Program and Storage Memory.
So does that mean ...
I have done quite a bit of research, but I am still a newbie. So forgive me if this is a stupid question. Does that mean that I could cook a ROM that excluded Pocket IE but included Opera (which I legally own)? It seemed like most of what I have read about cooking ROMs related to what someone chose to include or exclude from the Extended ROM.
Thanks for any light you can shed. I have been wondering if it was possible to redo the ROM with certain programs replaced.

It is possible. You will need to do a lot of reading and be ready for many failed flashes (just remember to never include the IPL/SPL in your cooked roms so be sure that you can't brick your phone).

Nandroid Backup and New Rom/New Version

Quick question, I hope I didn't miss this being answered somewhere else already. I like flashing different roms, and when I find one I like staying up to date with the latest version. However I'm sort of new at this and for a while I was just flashing Cyanogen's Roms, never needed a wipe.
My question is if I do the nandroid Backup + ext install a new rom, then restore that backup, is it taking me back to the previous rom that it was backed up on as well? If this is the case is there a way to pull the certain info and just move it into the new Rom?
The reason I ask is as much as I like doing this, it's somewhat time consuming setting up my shortcuts the way they were before, resetting my Locale (Program) situations, my scoreboard favs so on etc. Any help is greatly appreciated.
try "mybackup pro" from the market...
that will restore custom settings and apps to your new ROM
it may not do everything but its can get ya pretty close
Thanks

Thanks I'll give that a shot tonight, anything I don't have to redo is an advantage.

[Q] Best ROM?

Hi!
Well, recently rooted my phone and backed it up. But I'm not sure which ROM I want.
Currently, I'm using the "original" ROM and running on android 2.3.3.
I want a pretty stable, fast, smooth and cool ROM.
Theres not really a best rom or a 'better than that one' rom, the best thing to do mate, is to go through the roms, read up on them, look at them, even test them, if your phone is rooted, thats the hardest bit done, so just download a few, back up your phone through CWM Recovery, and flash them to try them!
Thats all i do all the time, then if u dont like, restore from back up and youve lost nothing, all the accounts, apps etc etc...
My experience
If you want Gingerbread, GamerzRom is the best solution. If you want ICS, Elite+Semaphore ICS kernel.

Nice didn't know I could "store" my apps and data.
I have some apps that aren't available on the market anymore, so is the backup 100% safe? I mean nothing will disappear?
I really don't want to brick my phone and I have heard that some ROMs may brick your phone, is that true? How can I be "safe"? How do I flash to a new ROM easiest way?

Flashing prerequisites:
Backup efs folder
Backup apps through titanium backup or similar.
Read ops carefully.
P. S. Flashing not for the faint hearted
Try tiramisu, elite and slim ics roms but imho Tiramisu is the most stable and bug free
Edit: Do a nandroid backup from clockwork recovery. This creates an image of your entire system allowing you to restore your previous working state in case something happens.
Tapatalking in my sleep
Also if you search google. there is a apk for android thaty backs up all your APK's, which is the install file for all your apps, so if u have apps that arent no more on market, then this is brilliant! I just cant remember the name lol... ill sort out my server first thing in the morning because i know its on my download page somewhere.

Titanium backup does that job quite well.

I try to use TB just for very specific applications. After flashing a new rom, I'm using appbrain - it can batch install apps, and I think a new install is always better than restoring

ICS roms - Slim is a good option, Doc's Roms are very good....
GB roms - Darky's rom or CM7
search for AOKP rom ... for me its the best ...
try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1572705
Try slimIcs and you'll never regret.
Also, if you like miui style, go to WeUI.
Nowadays almost all the ics roms are pretty stable for daily use.
GamerzRom is the best GB rom i've ever used

[Q] Slimmest Sense based rom

What is the slimmest sense based rom available for the Sprint HTC One? I don't use Facebook, Twitter, and all that other pre loaded crap. I know I can just uninstall all the pre loaded stuff but I get uninstall happy and really don't want to uninstall something I might need. Sorry if this is a stupid question, thank you guys in advance.
Use ROM Cleaner (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2247656).
Before I uninstalled anything I wasn't sure if it's needed or not, I'd disable it first to see if I got any adverse effect. If it didn't cause any problem then I would proceed with the removal.
Personally, I would always try to remove all the APKs and other stuff I know I don't want from the ROM zip before flashing that ROM on my phone. That would be my slimmest ROM. See the attached txt file for the list of files I normally removed. Best to open it in Notepad++.
Hope my answer helps. :cyclops:

Clean up Stock Rom

I looked around but did not see anything. Im sure some one has done it all ready. If not I wanted to ask. I'm not on the latest rom. I did Not want to update I was not sure if it would brake anything. I all ready removed the ads on the lock screen and removed the bloat ware.
Has any one taken the latest rom, took all the crap ware and made it flash able? That would be great for recovery if nothing else.

You can download a clean firmware without ads from @Tomsgt 's site here, you flash it following this guide, I did it and it worked like a charm :highfive:

The challenge is that the updates provided by BLU are highly incremental. So once you go to somebody else's ROMs, you can never go back.
An option is to first backup your /system and /boot via SPFT or TWRP, and then overwrite /system with another cleaned up ROM. If necessary, you will have an option to go back to full stock using your backups, and re-apply the official patches (still need to take LK and TEE out, otherwise those updates may at some point screw up the bootloader unlock !).
