Well, I want to make a new ROM, but this is the part I need help on. I want as many people to put in what they might like in a new ROM. Once I get enough replies, I'm going to check out which ones were the most popular. If all goes well, I'll try to make the ROM as best I can.
Why do I want to do this? Well, occasionally, I'm really bored and I have nothing to do, and plus it's really fun making them.
Just another note, please don't spam or go off topic on this thread. I just want this specifically for opinions about the majority of what people might like on a new ROM.
Thanks!

Well, my ROM was pretty basic.
For this one, I want everyone to have a say, and I want to try to make it different. It's not like it's going to come out soon, but I just want to get the idea of things. So basically, it's undecided right now.
How bout something Totally Different?
Just a thought.
How about a total vista rom. From the splash screens to Today and system Icons -- totally vista orbs and icons. Not a big fan of vista but the interface is really nice. I won't use the word pretty.
Built on WM6.1 with the latest radio rom. Glossy black bars. Even the animated orb at boot up. ????
Just a thought. Bet it would be popular.
yeaa do what zcinc said...and make it almost like a tablet pc if possible..make it as close to the pc experience as possible...i no u can do it..
Yeah, from my experience most people either way as much speed and space as possible ( blank rom like ur 1st ) or EyE Candy (Vista Release perhaps ?
mac anyone?
full mac ui for us mac lovers, and I don't mean iphone-blah.
would be nice to see a mac flavored rom -- =)
One thing i'd like to see and i don't hope is a spanish rom... i'd tried to make it myself and didn't do a great job exactly... i'll try another time, maybe.
This isn't a suggestion, i understand there's no interest in making one, just a loud-voice-thought.

Ohh... pretty... Interesting tidbit of information: One of my original cleanROM themes was a vista themed everything. But this is prettier.
I might include it as part of the kitchen I may or may not be releasing this week...
More Ideas
This is something like what I was thinking for the boot end:
***really awesome animated splash screen included in the .zip file .............
also, I have tons of icons and system files for the Vista look, extracted from wisebar themes. let me know if you want them for cooking.
Also, if someone can figure out this whole orb replacing the flag thing, they would be a ****en Genius.

I just downloaded a Kitchen today. Going to try my hand at cooking. I may or may never come up with a rom but I will try. Totally lost at this point but I will learn.
How about a 6.1 that has MMS working

Everyone makes ROMS with lots of stuff pre-installed. I'd like to see a ROM that's as close as possible to the WinMo that came pre-installed on my Wing, except for the following:
Leave out:
Adobe Reader LE
MyFaves app
t-zones wifi finder
Esmertec Java
misc crap I'm forgetting right now
Add:
BatteryStatus
6 MB pagepool
Today theme of Developer's choice
Touch dialer
Touch comm manager
WM6.1 if possible
Oxios mem manager or similar
As well as a package of "highly recommended" cabs that can be installed individually. For example, lots of ROMs have HTC Home 6 tab pre-installed. I hate the profiles tab, so I just use 5 tab.
Just my $.02
I would like to see the option to create a paging file on SD card and the ability to turn EV-DO off and make it STAY off, especially while connected to WiFi (my phone occasionally will use ev-do even when a wifi connection is present). Turning data off in comm manager does no good as it will automatically redial.

1. Paging file?
2. EV-DO? I'm gessing you don't have a herald. hehe -Turn off automatic Mail Push, though, and it should stay off. (Also turn off anything automatic, time and all.)

Here's the updated version with RGU's and internet sharing in it. It's not padded and it's in os.nb form. Cooks, have fun. People who aren't cooks. I'll upload an NBH version soon. Just don't have the time right now.
NBH version lacking RGU's and Internet Sharing
CleanROM Final Herald
CleanROM Final Wing
This is just something I put together before going to bed...
OS.NB format with RGU's but broken DSM's
Wing Version
Herald Version
Here are the OEM, SYS and ROM folders...
oh oh... I think I left the Herald Keyboard driver on there...
Please replace the keyboard drive with the Wing driver and then run G'Reloc to set it for the Wing.
It doesn't have a splash screen added...
What I've done:
Cubeless Touchflo
Killed the installation of the extROM. I'm gonna be playing with this later... At the moment, I'm using it to install the default theme.
Killed My5. It's a memory/space hog.
Pagepool is 6MB as 4MB doesn't perform as good with certain apps.
Built in Aserg's Policies
Killed all but one Sliding sound. It's disabled by default.
Memory optimizations for larger caches and hopefully a faster device. (This takes up some memory, though...)
Removed Bluetooth FTP (can be added by package.)
Replaced IA_ZIP with WinRAR. (Either can be added by package when the kitchen is released.) (You still have to launch WinRAR at least one time to create the file associations.)
NETCF 3.5
Removed SQLCEMobile
Removed a lot of junk in general. WMA's, MP4's, BMP's, etc.
Replaced the dialer and Comm Managers with HTC Touch/Duo themed ones.
Notes will only work if you add Office to the ROM. (So the release has the base files needed for it to work without actually having office.)
Advanced Configuration - I'll move this to the black only soon.
BatteryMeter - And this.
Left Entertainment in there. Solitare and BubbleBreaker. - Going to move it to Black only later, though...
etc, etc, etc
Or at least I think... I forgot... It's late and I've been working on another ROM, so this was just an after thought.
Cool.
Is the Office in?
Sweet. I will try this when I want more speed...

What about NOT making a competition out of romcooking. As i understand it - a clean rom is basicly made for people who want to build their own rom - with the kitchen Ivan is going to release.
And a full rom is for people who don´t want to install apps...
But a rom is only as good as it is for my PERSONAL use.
SO it doesn´t matter which is the fastest, smallest, nicest, buggiest......
..... just matter - "Do I like it or not?"
cheers.
Your's is smaller and faster than mine.
Great Work. Waiting for the one with the Radio. thanks!!

I will release a black version later. I'm also working on a newer build....
Guys, please keep this thread clean. No family unfriendly content.
As far as the faster and better thing, it's not a contest. My ROM isn't just a base ROM for my kitchen, though. Some people just like having a clean ROM. The less things running, the faster a ROM can POTENTIALLY run. But the less features that it has, also.

Ivan, I'm using open Touch 2.7 Slim Line with new Radio cooked in. Since you did not cook the radio in, if I flash your clean rom will it keep the radio I have from ttran's ROM?
(hope that's not too confusing_)
also is it too much trouble to ask if you can remove the two games and reup the ROM. If it is no problem, I can live with them in there.
When will EBO be ready?

It depends on when I'll have time...
Here's a runaround of my schedule:
I am working at the moment. I will go home and sleep for 5-7 hours depending on when I get out of here and then wake up to do homework. I will work on 5 chapter reviews that I have to fill out. Then I have to study for a test. Then I get to work again. Then I'm back to sleep to wake up and take a test. I have class the rest of the morning. Then I'm back at work. Then I go to sleep and wake up to work on a paper and a presentation poster, both due the next day, neither I have had time to start... then I have to go to work... then go home to sleep. Wake up to turn them in and go to class... then go to work... etc. Fun stuff.
But I WILL try to set aside some time soon.
Do you know, that HTC Album acts a little bit weird in beta 2? All fonts are missing and it is unable to delete photos (it absolutely ignores tapping on the icon).

Is it possible to make a M2D tab for Windows Live? I know Windows live has a today screen plugin, so at least some info must be available from API's. I'm going to go look into djkoa's M2D info to try and figure it out myself but I was hoping that someone has already started or maybe even finished such a project.

Quick answer no. M2D is the way it is the only modification has been with the operater tab.
"please in future post in correct sub forum as this has to do with software also a search would have given you the answer as this question has been asked over & over"
I think is pretty much possible. But to be honest wont worth the try at least from M2D, since we are running for the 6.5 style.
Besides it becomes too much crowd with so many tabs :-s ...and to run msnlive on back..takes too much power from it (energy and processor).
I think we need to wait first for better and lighter msnlive (I'd try meboo in android rom...and worked very fast and easy).

Happen to have a different opinion since, the M2D extras that have been incororated into the operater tab, basically just use the reg to point to a location link, greatbals and sergious? "not sure i spelt it correct", intergrating an app into M2D is a totally different ball game you have to be able to modify the app & M2D so as you can communicate with the app and visa versa, to which is why the plug ins with WM6.1 standard & also WM6.5 are made by M$.
KEEP THE GOOD IDEAS FLOWING!!!! Aug 23,2009
There are a lot of awesome Ideas in this thread.... We will try to apease everyone, I know we wont, but we will try!
We are going to build a ROM for the users. About the only thing that will be in this ROM that WE want, is maybe the loader... lol Maybe you like something I dont, I will still add it for you. If I like something you dont, I will make that uninstallable... or leave it out and I will install it after the fact...
Ok, so we have gotten a lot of requests for these ROMS,
just to let you know we are HARD at work on this and we will keep the thread updated of the progress.....
Keep the ideas coming, dont keep that million $ idea to yourself! post away!
cdguider and I would like to know:
what is your idea of a perfect ROM? ( so to speak)
What would you like in the ROM? stripped or packed?
What programs would you like to see?
What is most important to you?
let us know!
We are going to start working on a ROM straight from USER requests!

yep.... those are a given... good suggestions!! keep em comin!!
I would want everything that is already posted and will be posted. BUT be able to just remove what I don't want.
Here i go, ambitious but realisable :
Almost stock WM 6.1/6.5 ROM without unessential features like unwanted pictures and sounds, TOP 10 ringtones and alarm songs elected by users via Poll.
Customization applied to that stock ROM elected by Users Via Poll, maybe two versions made : BLACK and COLOURFUL (just to make sure everyone is glad )
ESSENTIAL tweaks and registry improvements such as Page pool and such.
About the APPS, that's a tricky matter because here in the XDA community, we have three categories of users (I can tell, I am on the forum since 2006 but not with this account) : Power Users, who don't especially need a business phone BUT a state of the art High Quality product (that would be me), Business Users who are looking for quick functionality, connectivity and Crackberry for some , Everyday Users, looking for close to stock rom with a few built in programs to fit their needs.
SO, my advice, install of the compulsory programms such as Facebook Live Messenger and such BUT make available all the programs which might be useful to the three categories in the ROM's Thread divided in the Categories stated above. This woulg be as close as we can get to a personalized ROM for everyone.
My 2cent
PS : Sorry if my english is weird or something I'm French
My personal preferences:
Clean 6.5 ROM with
- max performance tweaks
- max possible battery life w/out losing perf
- some eye candy
some most obvious additions like 1% battery meter, reset and so on
Additional soft package (so the ROM doesn't get old when new soft gets released)
manila 2.6
radio
voice recorder
latest opera
total commander
office
screen rotation via g-sensor AND softkey
RAM cleaner
advanced config
enhanced comm manager
google maps
PDF reader
WMP
more to come...

Hi!
I am new to this forum but not new to HTC phones.
I just got a new HTC TD2 from ATT as the ATT Pure.
Great phone! and as of this Morning the MS Application store is working great.
questions I am sure many of us will have so might need a sticky
1. Bloatware - how do you get ride all the silly ATT apps/stuff?
2. if I load a new ROM from this sight will it be equal to or better then the RTM of 6.5? basically I don't want to loose the underlying features I just want generic + Radios + store (3G/4G)
3. if I load a ROM from here can I every go back to the factory ROM?
4. How do I: App-unlock, Phone-Unlock (if any) (not SIM unlock)?
5. Donation link - were is that!?
thanks in advance!

Search is still king around here. That being said, there are unlock tools available. Check out the ROM development thread.
So far it looks like you are stuck with bloatware unless you flash a different rom.
Good hunting.

So you have a Pure did you reload it?
Not yet, still playing with the stock rom, I've installed my favorites to add to the flavor like Youtube, Wifi sharing and a few from the new MS Marketplace.
So far I'm happy with the ROM, but knowing me, I'll probably end up flashing it tonight.

Please let me know how the flashing goes, what ROM/problems, I know several of us would love to know!
there was a person on the bloatware thread that mentioned they flashed and got more performance. I don't want to loose features like the radios, the MS Store, and Exchange integration. but what I do want is Youtube, Flash, etc. I understand it is supported. the new Opera browser is pretty good and the new IE browser is no sloutch. I don't like the Mail/SMS list, I prefer the threading features of WM 6.1

Any ROM other than at&t is going to give you alot better performance all around. When I had my Fuze, I was using NRG's ROMs almost exclusively. Very fast and stable and he always includes all the good stuff without taking up all the memory either.

GTK! when you flashwith another ROM can you still go back to the factory ROM using a master reset? One would thing you are replacing the ROM in Flash and not the actual "ROM"
When you flash a rom you can't go back to stock unless you have the stock rom on a cd from your profider, read de faq's dude
Unless you know how to dump and recompile your stock rom you can't reflash it unless someone on here shares the pure rom which I think they have. Check out the ROM develpment section for Topaz.
I think you will flashing soon because Manila 2.5 kicks ass and the pure don't got it.

Playing With Pure
Hey again everyone,
Just got my new PURE yesterday, and went about loading up all my goodies from off my Tilt (anyone wanna buy a used Tilt???)...
One app I like using is WKTask, it allows the title bar to show mini title-bars for open apps (but I'm sure many of you already knew that )... anyway, here's a question for all those wonderful registry hackers out there who may also have just picked up a Pure/Topaz/etc. with a similar issue:::
I'm noticing that Opera 9.5 stays open in memory no matter what I do. I can use the exit menu item in the browser, I can use WKTask's Close or even Terminate, I can even use FDC Task Manager program to find Opera in the Apps list & kill it there... no matter what I do, it keeps popping back up, whether or not I have Manila running off the Today picklist.
The question here is: what is making Opera keep popping back up? Though I like the browser, I don't want it running in the background - until I want it to. Seems to me that maybe something in Manila is keeping a notification queue item rolling that opens Opera - but I've browsed through the notification queue and can't find anything that specifically mentions the browser...
This issue notwithstanding, I must say that I'm so far happy with the Pure (ex the bloatware of course). I've never been daring enough to flash non-stock ROMs... but maybe if the bloatware drives me crazy enough, I might just dive into the kitchen...
Any thoughts on the Opera issue? Thanks!!!

Thanks!!!

That was my first guess too. Check and see if push internet is off. I don't remember how to get there since I'm using 6.5.1 and Leo Manila but it should be easy.
OK... tried this, and WOW! The wonders of what you discover about your new device when you ask! (after searching, of course)....
I skimmed over the "Push Internet" feature in Manila settings somewhere, but didn't give it much of a thought, since at the time I didn't know what it was - hey, my Tilt didn't have Push-Internet. But seeing how freaking SLOW everything, including SPB Mobile Shell (which I somehow prefer over Manila - I know, it's sacrilege!) was running, I took the advice here about Push Internet, searched on how to disable it, found this link to an article on PocketNow.com which links to a file created by one of XDA-Developers' own, and voila! Instant gratification... and an over 10MB Program memory availability jump.
Thanks everyone for pointing me in the right direction! Cheers!

Hello everyone,
OK, here is my first go at ROM cooking.
I was looking for a very basic ROM with only must-have applications inside, so that I can later install the software I *do* use. Eventually I gave up, as all the ROMs and even the Lite'est ones had too much features / utilities. I thought I would then take the latest official ROM available (for stability purpose) and trim it down to minimum elements (for size reduction).
Herewith is what I ended up with:
http://rapidshare.com/files/3829100....25.91_Signed_Ship_trimmed_by_aziraphale_.rar
This in no way can be called a "cooked" ROM, I still know nothing about cooking, but it is a heavily trimmed stock ROM, created by the use of RhodiumKitchen_0.1, found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=560519.
Thanks Dave for this Tutorial and all the credits go to respective tools' developers.
How to install:
- unrar
- connect with ActiveSync (or loader in USB mode)
(goes without saying Your device must be Hard-SPL'd or modified any other way to allow ROM flashing - search the forum)
- execute RomUpdateUtility.exe
There are some residual unnecessary and/or invalid shortcuts in the Start Menu,
as well as some empty folders, I manually removed them by the use of EveryWAN personal edition - it's free and it's easy to use.
The OS is 6.5 b21887
I have trimmed the following from the stock ROM:
HTC applications:
- appointment editor
- clear storage (can do Hard reset in normal way)
- facebook / engine
- format SD (can't a PC do that?)
- CoPilot + install path folder (I use TomTom)
- birthday
- bookmark
- messaging client (hate it)
- jblend
- jetcet
- manila all
- opera (when You install newer version You end up with 2 )
- sliding sounds
- social networks engine
- streaming media
- tv out
- youtube
- volume control
- google maps (same as with opera)
- setting improvement
- text selection
- wifi wizard
- browser snapshot
- ie6 enhancement
- world card mobile (BCR)
- rss hub
System:
- live search
- wm widgets
- win live
- welcome center
- transcriber
- skymarket
- one note
- remote desktop
- themes except Rock and Republic
- my phone (skybox)
- livesearch
I do not expect this to become very useful to most of the forum visitors/members, but perhaps there is someone out there who have not found his/her way around to make ROMs him(her)self yet, but would like to get the very basic ROM with no extras.
Very hard to define "must have" apps. I personally prefer WM6.1 over WM6.5. Bad thing is you can't install every app\functionality by using CAB's. Otherwise you could create a ROM of around 40MB. Mine is currently ~70MB and is just great for my personal use.
Might be handy to add to the first post that your ROM is actually a WM6.5 ROM
Good luck on the cooking!

You said it yourself - the "must-have" are the ones that can not be added by .cabs and will compromise phone functionality (like the HTC dialer skin will enable video calls, thus must stay)

the "2.07.401.1" implies 6.5, but added to description anyway, thanks
Good effort dude I did much the same a month or so ago with an amalgamation of Ervius Visual Kitchen (so easy) and JoshKoss kitchen. Didn't go as savage on the removal of stuff though, main objective was to get rid of the HTC Messaging
Just tried May 1st 23xxx EnergyROM with MaxManila but it cuts off MP3 playback in standby (a big no-no for me) and hung once already while texting MaxManila is nice though, and the Facebook tab is good. I usually stick to 21xxx but I must say 23xxx is growing on me with the latest build. Gonna try Cell Pro next.
I like the latest stuff but keeping up with it all is a nightmare if you're cooking. Wouldn't mind the latest 2.5 Manila packages and latest 21xxx / 23xxx SYS, also would try cooking in MaxManila, and I never managed to cook in "mark all as read" for emails properly. Need to learn how to hack on Manila. Also I forgot to cook in a task manager haha Ameba is quite nice on the latest EnergyROM. I definitely get the "why cook it in if you can get it from Marketplace / OMarket and auto update it" though, totally with you on that one instead of flashing a new ROM every week. I usually flash a new one every month or so, once I find one I like. But for the last month or so I've been running my own. It wasn't the fastest ROM ever though
It's a lot of work to make a decent ROM, and it's finding the time innit. I'm a big fan of JoshKoss but he hasn't released anything in a while
Anyway good effort dude the more the merrier I say
Also just a quick note I did get the Standby Of Death a couple of times on my cooked ROM. Very rare but still. No idea why. Don't know if it happens with the stock ROM or not.
Would like to know how to totally remove HTC messaging, sometimes when texting via Manila it would still give the conversation view which runs like a dog when you have 4,800 messages hehe
And the speakerphone sometimes screwed up - I could hear the other party but they couldn't hear me.

Before going through the trouble of surgically removing the rudimentary software myself, I have tried a few "professionally" (read: respect, not sarcasm) cooked Energy and Leo ROMs, most of them VERY recent, but I found them SOOO packed with tweaks and features, that it would take me ages just to discover all the extras. I am more on the simplier side, don't fix something which is not broken, but I just HATE Manila (expect a lot of angry protestors here) and I am not big fan of HTC customisations either. Hence was this ROM done and I am so far rather happy with it.
There is no sign of HTC messaging which I can find, and I can install and use only necessary (for me) bits of software.
For "mark all as read" there is a really good .cab on the forum, called "safeboxextender", it works like a charm and I don't mind having to install it separately (i.e. not. cooked-in).
Having come from 1.86 ROM to 2.07 I do notice that device keeps hanging even without being put to sleep, but I can not figure out the dependency yet (I mean so far it looks rather random).

Yeah me too, those guys have spent probably 100's if not 1000's of hours on learning this stuff, then putting it together in a manner that pleases a lot of different people. Major kudos. I sometimes get the feeling though particularly with chefs who release almost every day, for a number of different devices, that the care and testing leaves something to be desired. Quite often more does not = better as you know

Yeah I tried converting that to an EXT and cooking it in but it didn't work I know it can be done though cos a lot of ROMs have it built in. To be honest I don't really have enough time anymore to dedicate to my own ROM so I'm trying out a few others.

It's weird ... Mine's never hung while running but I've had the SOD two or three times. More research required, until then just stick the pen up it's arse haha
Could you release an additional version with a later build SYS (ie: 23XXX or 28XXX)? A lot of people use 6.5.5 or 6.5.3 and there are no Lite options for those later builds.

i'd love to, but....
as i said i am no cook and i only did it for myself and cared enough to share with anyone who'd love to have it "as is".
also, see the respective later-release ROM threads to see how many bugs are there still and ROM-cooking gurus are eliminating them one by one and it's a long and painstaking process. i have neither time, nor ability to do that.
so i guess this is as much as i can do so far.
I've been using the ROM for a few days now and it is great. Everything works perfect. Bluetooth, tethering, wifi, data connections; it all works great with no bugs Thanks for sharring. I love a clean ROM.

very good!
Well I think I have ran the gamet of tezts and this ROM is perfect. It is fast and stable trimmed down well but still offering everything a user needs. I am on AT&T in the states and it works perfect. The only thing I cant figure out is how do I shut of the vibration when using the on screen key board? And can I add a picture mail program to my device? Would it function properly and could you recommend one?

that would be by manually editing registry key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\TFLOSettings]
"ApVibrationOn"=dword:00000000
it is 1 by default, change it to 0 and you are all set

this here i am not sure what you mean?
whatever you add (install) SHOULD function properly, if it would have on a stock ROM,
as i have not made any changes to remaining ROM bits
edit: if you open Albums and select any picture You want, it will open in full screen, tap it, and 4 icon menu comes up, 3rd from the left with 2 arrows > tap this one and there is an option *mail*.
select the account (i would use email) and voila! is that what you were looking for?
Thanks Aziraphale_l I was talking about MMS. I want to send and receive picture mail with text messaging. Right now I cant send or recieve pictures except with email. But of course my friends do not have pda phones so we use MMS picture mail.
I was guessing this is what you said you removed. I looked for arcsoft for 6.5 and I see that HTC is now using "HTC Message" so I will go look for that. Thanks again.
Maybe this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624375
With these settings from the same thread.
Server Name: Cingular MMS
Gateway: wireless.cingular.com
Port:80
Server address: http://mmsc.cingular.com
Connect via: Media Net
Send Limit: 300k
Wap Version: 2.0
I'll try to send an MMS tomorrow.

HTC messaging, which I understand handles MMS functionality in our devices, has evolved into... well, something I did not like any more, so it had to go.
I personally don't use MMS, so it is no big deal for me.
Your ArcSoft link below - I see no reason why it will not work, give it a try? You can then share Your findings with the rest of us.
P.S. Battery life on this ROM is the best I have ever seen!
I have tried a dozen ROMs and I usually stick with them for a month or so I guess. They are either lite with bugs or heavy with eye candy and bugs. So far I haven't had a single issue with yours. I think many developers get in to much of a hurry. I appreciate the great job you did on this.
I notice today that to get from one task to another, one program to another or one event to another I use fewer steps because everything is simple and functional. Thanks again.
I cooked in Arcsoft_MMS_5_2_8_45 on mine, after pulling out HTC Messaging, if I remember rightly it worked but it's very rare I use MMS anyway. If you install it afterwards, re-run carrier provisioning (or whatever it's called ... where it sets up your network settings automatically) and it should configure Arcsoft for ya.
Right now I'm running EnergyROM 23xxx from 1st of May but battery is suffering and it crashes a bit, not mega fast either. It is a nice flashy ROM tho I used to hate 23xxx and much prefer 21xxx but lately I'm kinda undecided.
Thanks for the haptic feedback registry edit; works great.
