Probably another stupid question by me, but oh well. Here it goes.
I have windows Vista on my laptop, and it doesn't have outlook it has windows email. When the ATT rep transferred my contacts from my old sim to the new 3G sim, as usual they all got screwed up. So is there a way I can sync up my phone to my laptop and transfer all my contacts from my sim to the contacts in the Windows email program? I wanted to edit them there becuase it would be so much easier. Then I would transfer those contacts back to my phone correctly. Is there a way?
The reason being is that I have multiple numbers for one person and the sim has it all mixed up. Thanks for your time and feedback.
From my understanding...there is no way to do it. I have had this conversation with the folks at HTC and Device Center only syncs to Outlook. You could possibly export them to Excel on the device then sync and open Excel on the lap top and resort them there.
I sure hope there is another way and I am sure the kind folks here will no more than I do.
Free trial of Office, with Outlook.

Install it, sync, fix contact remove.
Might be another way, but this is easiest as it is what is recommended.
I am thinking about buying a Tytn II (Kaiser). I run Windows XP Pro but I do not run MS Office or Outlook (which are not even installed on my PC) or Internet Explorer (which is). Instead I use OpenOffice (open source freeware), Thunderbird (ditto) and Firefox (ditto). I refuse to pay for MS Office or Outlook. How may I sync my Kaiser to my PC - address book, documents, bookmarks etc. ?
Seems a shame that such a wonderful sounding machine is tied to Outlook and MS Office

Hmmm...Windows Mobile=Microsoft
MS Office/Outlook=Microsoft
ERGO...you're stuck!
As mentioned already Microsoft's synching solutions Activesync or WMDC are for Microsoft apps only (although it baffles me that it won't even synch to native Windows apps such as address book or Outlook Express). There is some releief in that not having a recent version of Outlook installed doesn't grey out Favourites, Files or Media so you should still be able to sync these fine. There are third party products around that offer a greater amount of synching compatibility. Perhaps others who are using the apps you mentioned have experience or can name names. Additionally, perhaps those application suppliers can advise on solutions, if they're aware of any....
I was in a similar situation but I use Thunderbird only for storing my emails.
I saw in another post a link to:
www.goosync.com
I found the Google-calendar quite useful (can be opened in Thunderbird). With Goosync you can free-of-charge sync your Google-calendar (with restrictions). For some money you can also sync tasks and the address-book.
Have a look. Maybe it's something for you. Maybe not.

I sync my contacts directly to my hotmail account without the use of outlook but then again hotmail - microsoft.
I forgot to backup my contacts on my computer and then I reformatted it. Not too big of a deal as I have all my contacts on my phone. It used to sync both before with no problems. But now when I used Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 for Windows Vista it erased all my contacts on my phone. I had to run my restore to get my contacts back. I tried to delete all the Windows PC relationships but that did not work. How to I push my contacts from my phone to my Outlook and then have them sync together from that point?
sign up with mail2web (free exchange server and email) and then setup outlook on your kaiser with the mailweb settings and then syncronize in activesync on the ppc and then your contacts will be on mail2web's push server and then open outlook o0n your pc and fill in all your mail2web details in the settings and then sync your pc and your contacts from mail2web will be pushed to pc
I've just upgraded to Windows 7, from XP on my PC. The one thing I cannot get used to is the lack of Outlook Express.
I have Outlook 2007 and I've successfully imported all my XP messages and contacts etc. The thing I don't like about Outlook is that all images have to be opened as a separate file.
I've also tried to use Thunderbird but so far I've been unable to import my messages from Outlook (or Outlook Express from XP) it just hangs during the import.
Does anyone know of a way to make Outlook able to view images directly from the message rather than opening them individually?
you can also try out windows live mail
from the live essentials packet
try office 2010

Take backup of outlook data and use portable outlook... or just install outlook 07/10 and add old outlook data file in it.
Bouncypete,
Outlook Express was discontinued after Windows XP. Microsoft offers Windows Live Mail as a free mail client that will allow you import your previous email files and access them. For additional information, please go here: http://bit.ly/2P76y
Also, should you require additional assistance and feedback, Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams.

Thanks to everyone who has replied to this and sorry I was unable to respond sooner.
I've now managed to import my old emails into Windows Live Mail. For some reason it took a couple of attemps but I've finally got it sorted.

never mind, the http://myphone.microsoft.com only works with WM6.
Ok so how can help me get my full contacts, music and pictures from my HD2 to the new phone.
Very retarted I must add. There should be a simple application that allows you to transfer all that data to ur comp or some other place and then back to the new phone, no matter what the os version is like Nokia has.
Please help
Here's what i did:
1. first create a windows live account online
2. sync all your contacts to outlook (use active sync for xp) by connecting ur hd2
3. convert ALL contacts through outlook - access FILE, IMPORT EXPORT, choose EXPORT A NEW FILE, choose Comma Separate Values (windows), then type in preferred file name (take note of file location in ur pc)
4. log in to windows live account, go to contacts page and import the contacts by accessing the file you exported from Outlook.
5. activate your phone's DATA or WIFI connection, and set-up/turn on your windows live account on your hd7.
6. once complete, all contacts should sync on your hd7!
The process is lenghty and i prefer direct sync from outlook similar to WM6.5 but i think Microsoft wants to promote windows live.
Hope this helps!
** btw, for pictures and music, i believe the best way is to use ZuneSW on your pc or use the MAC connector if you're using mac (like me!). both can be downloaded through windows website, just "bing it"!

Thank you for the reply.
Two problems
Cant sync with Outlook, have it installed, set up accounts when I connect my HD2 to it, it tells me that out look is not my default email program, even though its set to be, i checked, then when I go into settings it only lets me sink notes and some other crap, not contacts.
So I used the windows live to sink, or what I though was windows live. but its for V6 only. ( very retarted on microsofts part)
When you log into windows live, it has nothing to do with your phone.windows account.
I cant get zune to install either, gives me a net frame error, even though net frame is up to date.
Im running windows 7, with all latest updates.
Im not idiot when it comes to computer, but man windows is making it tough to do simple things.
I just tried to install that stupid software for the cloud, it would not install any o fit either, cant figure out what is going on.
You guys make things to hard. add the windows live account to your hd2 and have it sync then add the win live account to your hd7. You can also use gmail thru activesync on the hd2 and it will give you an option to sync gmail contacts on the hd7
Never thought of that before! I only opened a windows live account when i transitioned to HD7. I used the hard way (outlook sync), it's great that u suggested an easier one.
Thanks!

Tried the Gmail version when I first got the HD2 and it did not give me option of which way to sync, it saw my gmail account had no contacts and cleared them all off.
Either way, I think microsoft should develop a simple back up and sync system, without having to use outlook or windows live, i dont use either way on a daily basis.

Just tried your idea, went to Windows Live on HD2, logged in, on sync options only option is to show windows live contacts on phone, not vice versa, do a sync, log on to my live account via pc, no contacts shown.
have you actually done this? or just going of of theory?
You should use ActiveSync on your old WM device to connect to your Live/Hotmail-account.
It will sync your phone contacts to your live account which then will show up in your WP7 device.
It worked for me, even though I don't have a hotmail-address.
