Even I noticed that t-mobile settings are not present for the UK model, so I just entered the settings manually.

The previous versions of connection setup do have t-mobile, and the provisioning file has the same format, so it should be possible to add t-mo UK without issue...
I see BT-Mobile, and O2... so i assume BT-Mobile is actually T-Mobile?
Anyway it auto detected virgin, which is an MVNO of t-mobile, and of course it has a different APN (for billing purposes). I had to manually enter the apn.
Strange. Mine picked up T-Mobile setup with both roms 1.34 and 1.35 (elite 1.0)
A bit off topic here, sorry, but saves opening a new thread..
I'm currently on three payg with the £5 internet access add on, does anyone recommend t-mobile over three? I find the 3g coverage to be naff in most areas on three, and I remember someone saying t-mobile has better 3g cover.
Any comments? Thanks.
Hard for me to say as I live in a city so 3g is good , but T-Mobile has it running through a lot more of their network than most. Have a look at Tmobile website . They will have a coverage map.
I have installed T-Mobile settings but seems strange that it is missing off the list. Not a prob as you will be able to get them off the T-mobile site soon anyway.

In UK , I would say the t-mobile 3g coverage is really good and way better than 3-network.

Where I live (the grim north) 3G on Orange was great. I have just moved to T-Mobile and in the same areas I do not see 3G at all, saying that, In my place of work I get HSDPA on t-mobile and only 3G with Orange.
Overall I think T-mobile have better coverage and I do live out in the sticks
Thanks for that guys, but one more q:
on my three plan, I spend £5 a month to get "fair" internet use, so far seems good. On the t-mobile plans that I see on their site, you have to pay £1 a day for unlimited internet, that's already going to be £28+ a month, add onto that texts/calls, that's expensive for payg. Am i reading the deal wrong? Or do they have other internet deals?
My three 3g drops often onto "H" and sometimes drops to "G", so if (as most of you say) t-mobile is better for 3g coverage, I will go with them - if there are better deals for the internet.
Why not just buy a tmobile webnwalk package...im on the £10 a month one and it works brilliantly. Used to regularly get 3.5G on my nokia n95 8gb and was blazing fast.

Is that £10 a month no extra charge for unlimited internet use? I'm looking on their site but can't find much.

Yup it is, allows me to use the internet as much as i want without paying anything extra ie only pay £10 it and i can spend as much time on the internet as i like. Also includes usage of messenger programs. I dont think the package i use allows you to use your phone as a modem for your laptop nor does it include VOIP calls.
But if i was you give them a ring and they can explain to you exactly which package does what. They do have a web n walk pro package as well but thats £20 a month i think but allows you to do anything on your phone ie VOIP calls, tethering your phone to your laptop etc etc.
Mmm, they def arent there on the latest 1.37 rom version
My diamond that I got today which is an official UK version didnt have the tmobile settings either. Does seem strange that the tmobile settings arent in there tho?
I just found a tmobile settings cab on my touch dual from previous searches on xda developers and used that.
Sorted, internet works fine. Will leave the cab on my phone just in case I need to reset them.
I'm on T-Mob's Web N Walk basic for £7.50 a month (on top of my flext) with my current Hermes. Not sure if it's available on PAYG, though.
Messenger works here too, as does using it as a modem. A data packet is a data packet, be it from a phone or a laptop, they can't tell. I don't abuse it and stay well within the "1GB fair use unlimited limit".
Can someone kindly post the tmobile internet cab file or point me in the right direction so that when i get my Diamond tommorrow...i can have my internet working properly. BTW does the cab also include the MMS settings??.
You can just set it up yourself..

Folks, I read in the www.3g.co.uk forum that Three was to strike a deal with T-Mobile to expand their coverage. I live in N. Ireland and the three 3G coverage is pretty impressive.

They already share their RAN (radio access network).
Is there any way to get rid of it ?
I am not using any data connections, only WiFi sometimes. I installed NoData and disabled all data connections, then applied some registry fixes posted here to disable 3G, but I am still getting this icons, so suppose it is on .. ?
Please advise me how to disable it completely.
Thanks.
The phone will always notify you of what network you are able to connect to, regardless if you're using data transfer or not. All that's telling you is what zone you're in, try accessing a web page and if it doesn't allow it you're all set. No worries.
P.S., is data really that expensive there? It seems I hear a lot of people in Europe using apps like NoData whereas here I can get unlimited data for $30/month and it's a non-issue.

Ok, fair enough. I was just curious as to why I see it more outside the US than around me (making the assumption that you are, indeed, not in the US).

As far as I know internet is much cheaper here than in US, people use NoData because they do not have good roaming data plans and go abroad quite often. I can understand why you do not understand that, you probably don't use roaming that much as even if you drive to the west for 2 days it will still be US (or sea bed).
So, back to topic, any idea how to disable it (I am a great fan of minimalist design) ?

Yeah, a bit cheaper than here. That's like $15 USD I think.
And whoever else talked about roaming, good point. I've once in my life been out of my plan's local range, that was when I went to PR... Too poor for a trip to Europe (maybe in a few years).

If you snees hard you are already outside the Netherlands and then we pay like 15 euro for 1 mb datatraffic.
Some people who are on vacation get bills from 1000 / 2000 euro. That is why we are a bit carefull.
1 europe is still not 1 europe
Well, the lucky thing for me, when I plan on going to Europe it'll be for quite a trip, so I'll just get a local pay-as-you-go SIM to throw in my phone and not worry about international roaming. Prices aren't great on any prepaid, but a lot better than using AT&T across the world.
Thank you Hertc
Please advise what model Diamond you are using....in bootloader screen [3 color stripes] [reset and hold volume down] is your diamond Diam100 or Diam130 or...
Please advise also under settings/system/device information what you have...Rom version etc.
Again many thanks

OMG, I'm glad that I'm relocating to Amsterdam in 1 month then
Here in Spain the cheapest is 15€ for 200Mb/month at 3G speed and when you reach that you're capped to 128kbps. Amazing, isn't it?
Hello all,
Long story short, T-mobile is canceling my service because I was roaming too much and costing them a fortune. I still want to use my G1. Therefore, my only option is AT&T, which provides great coverage where I am at.
My question is, what would be the best plan for me to go about switching over?
My options are going into the nearest AT&T store and have them tell me I need to get the $50 PDA data plan and some other nonsense that I could get away without having or I could just sign up for a new plan with a new phone (transferring my current number, of course) and get the $30 unlimited data and messaging option, then just switch the SIM into my G1.
Which option would be best and what have you used?
Thank you for any help!
Do you know, you would have no 3G?
I know exactly how it would work, but I am in no position to be buying a new phone to use features I do not really need. Honestly, I never used the 3G on TMO. I had it turned off to conserve battery life. EDGE is perfectly fine to me.

Be cautious of letting them cancel your service for roaming too much. There are some states where T-Mobile is not supposed to cancel your account for excessive roaming. I'd check on that first...

Thanks for the info! Where would you suggest I look for these state laws. I am in Michigan if that helps. I've also read that you can use the [email protected] to route your calls through Wifi instead of EDGE to save on roaming time.

I really don't know where you can find it out :-(. I know this because it happened in my state. T-Mobile only has 'T-Mobile' towers running to our call center (so the VP's see only T-Mobile towers when they travel to it).
So they sent out a letter to EVERY T-Mobile customer in my state saying they were going to cancel their accounts for excessive roaming. Then the state stepped in and T-Mobile backed off.

Ah, I don't think that will apply in my situation. You see, I was a loyal TMO customer for two years and extended my contract to get the G1. Three months after I extended my contract (this past January) I moved up to my university, which has no TMO coverage. I had asked a TMO representative if the roaming would be an issue. He said it wouldn't be a problem. Apparently he was not in the know about his companies terms. This isn't a new issue and I was upset about them not telling me what they could do if I roamed too much or that they never warned me that I was roaming too much but I am over it now and am looking forward to using my G1 on AT&T.

Ok. Well in that case, don't let them get away with hitting you with an early termination fee since a CSR told you that you would be fine.

No, they are waiving the ETF, which is awfully nice of them.
you should go to an at&t store or a place that sells at&t like radio shack and get a free phone like the LG Shine or the Samsung 767 (Propel) or anything that looks nice really just as a backup... and get how ever many minutes that you might need and the data/text bundle for $30 a month and sim unlock the g1. the only thing is in order to port your number you need to have the t-mobile account active and if your still in contract you will have to pay the ETF so you may or may not be able to keep you same number for free
I had AT&T before I got my G1, so it worked out for me. I bought my G1 on ebay for 300 dollars, I know kind of pricey but well worth it, and kept my same family plan, just added internet to my number.
Hello
I have been using the 9.99 web2go data plan part of tmobile for about 3 months now and this morning it just stopped working. I wanted to see if it happened to anyone else, and what setting is everyone else using?
i tried:
internet2.voicestream.com
wap.voicestream.com
both didnt work and i tried to use a proxy with the wap.voicestream and didnt work as well
any help would be great!
I'm also using the mobile internet from T-mobile and don't have any isseu's with it.
what you could try is the connection setup maybe it will help. it is located in start>settings>connections
They also nailed me today. THey are forcing everyone without T-mo phones to the 24.99/mo plan. Jerks.

Mine internet was setup automaticly witch connection setup

T-Mobile internet
Moden tab:
T-Mobile internet
Acces point name: Internet
The user name and password is empty
Proxy settings tab:
there is no proxy
could i aske you where you live. maybe its a local problem.
but if i'm must be honest the mobile internet of vodafone is much much better than the on of t-mobile. i used them both and the vodafones was much faster. but thats my experiance. now i'm using the 15 euro internt plan from t-mobile it is a little bit faster thatn the 10 euro.
Here in US, we need to put a Access Point name, but they want everyone to use the 29.99 plan, but there was a loop whole where you can use another plan but still get unlimited internet, but it seems that isnt happening anymore for some people ; (

Not at all. That used to be the case, but then there was a legitimate $9.99 internet/messages plan. It was just a $9.99 plan for a half-ass edge connection, which I was okay with. But they are trying to force us up to $24.99, STILL for a half-ass edge connection (because X1a can't connect to USA T-mobile 3G). I say we boycott.
my 4? dollar whatever it is plan still works haha. I've had this thing for like 6 years? 7? and mine still works fine.
Yes, my 9.99 tmobile data plan stopped working too just last night, called tmobile and they are positive that it's due to the upgrade of their pricing, 9.99 plan no longer work, at least for smartphones, to browse the whole web. they are pushing a 24.99 or even 34.99 plan. We say we boycott too!
that soo stupid... i havent called yet, but ill call later today and see what they say
T mo told me since i had a phone not from their network i would have to get the 24.99 data plan and the old one wouldnt work anymore. then seemed as if they were relectant to remove the 9.99 data plan. Whats the deal with that? i didnt change the rules you did!
I am in the same boat. Called and they say I have to pay $24.99. This sucks and I just joined tmobile.
I went online and canceled my 9.99 plan, and now I'm thinking of switching to AT&T 39.99 /mo + pay per MB ($2 per MB) internet. Then I would only use the internet if I absolutely need to. Unfortunately it's only 450 minutes/mo (but with rollover). Anyway, there's no way I'm going to spend $75 / mo for EDGE on T-mo. Ludicrous.
I hope others also ditch T-mo; this was a really underhanded thing they did, especially since we never got any kind of warning.
i may do the same thing, i havent had time to call them and complain about this
Good news, mine started working again today, this morning

i pay 15 dollars for my unlimited data with att ... im so loving this 3g.
I agree, same here, but did you check with tmobile again to confirm that they didn't automatically move us to the 24.99 price? That's the case I'm worried most. But I highly doubt it is so.
I am using T-Mobil's 9.99 TWeb plan and everything works great except for MMS i can receive picture messages but i can't send them. its very weird i didn't have that problem on my Htc Tilt. so i don't know if its a window mobile issue. it seems since i have been using flashed roms with 6.5 i have been having problems. i am going to flash back to original ROM and see what happens. if anyone is having the same issue please let me know, i really don't want to go back to Original rom!!
I was wondering, if I don't have Data Plan, would 3g be useful for me at all, or should I just turn it off.
I heard 3g helps call quality too, but not sure if it works for me, since I don't have data plan.
Edit: I have Tmobile and yes I have i have 3g in my area
Also, is there anyway to making dialer vibrate?
-Thanks
Nope no need for 3G without the data plan.

Yep no data no 3g
It depends on your provider, obviously you need some some kind of data tariff, but not necessarily a "data plan". Where are you and who's your provider (In the UK I get 3G no problem on PAYG, but some places are mean).
I'm assuming tmo doesn't charge per mb... On my pay and go plan, data is £3/mb!! It's kinda annoying when flashing ROMs, as 3G normally gets enabled and I get charged for it :<

That is vicious, on my Virgin PAYG, as soon as use data any day it is 30p, then I can use up to 25MB, after that it is £2/MB. But if I top up £20 in one month, the next month I have 1GB of data, plus 6000 texts as a free bonus.

Virgin actually call their offer unlimited, but it clearly isn't when you read the small print. There are various levels of "unlimited" for various prices, but if you are caning it then you'd get a contract plan.
@Adam - Thanks so much for the info on Virgin. I just saw that they offer 300 when you top up a tenner, which is why I was staying with crappy O2. Just ordered my SIM Now to find out if they have 3G in my area....
