Yesterday i tried loading GarminXT and it froze. Did a soft reboot and tried again and again it froze. I then tried tomtom, which loaded ok, but could not find any satellite. I was on open sight waiting for 30 minutes. I also tried MioMap and automatically scanned port..."no GPS found it" says. I have then put it manually and the red LED went on...but still, not satellites are found. Red light blinks normally, i just don't get any data.
GPS worked just fine before that happened. I also noticed device to be very slow if i ran any gps program. Any idea what when't wrong? I just did a hard reset few days ago and i only have fistful of applications running.
edit: I aso tried GPSTest and it keeps scanning. When it comes to com4, red light blinks, but that's all. It's looping this scanning procedure. If i set com4 manually it just says Looking for GPS unit
tnx
did you use quickgps first before launching any gps application?
Hi!
I had exactly the same problem a week ago (with iGO, TomTom and GPS Tuner). I've got advice to remove battery for hours (I did it for 8 hours) but did not help.
Finally I found a program on xda-developers or GPS Passion which is developed for maintaning Qualcomm GPS (GPSTool). I do not remember the thread but you can find something like this: GPSTool0813.
When you downloaded that exe copy it to \windows. Execute it. Select sirf. Then select yes (if device is Qualcomm) then select COM4 and Cold Start. Push Start button.
I hope this helps.
i did your procedure, but it didn't help. Even gpstool could not get any satelllite. it did show some data, quickly scrolling, but thats all.
maybe i did something wrong. how long does it have to run?
tnx
i just found out that i, too, am having problems getting a fix on my gps. i opened gogle map and gps tool this morning on my new att tilt but i cant get a lock. i have 4-5 satellites available but can't get a fix...
Any more ideas? I tried BT gps and it worked fine. Got fix in few sec.
tnx
Same thing happened to me and a hard reset fixed it.
ok, tnx. Wil try hard reset today and report.

Someone help if possible! My GPS on my Tilt was working perfectly with Google Maps and LiveSearch... but today i turned it on and it's locking onto a position about 500+ miles away. I have VisualGPS installed and it now is only locking onto a max of 3 satellites (but sees many more satellites) when it used to lock onto about 6+! It also thinks i'm at 57,000 feet and somewhere over the gulf of mexico when i'm currently in south carolina on a trip! I tried soft resetting about 5x and ran QuickGPS a few times as well... nothing has fixed it. Any suggestions?
did you install anything new or do anything major like settings or drop the phone?
Nope...it was working fine one day, and not working the next... phone wasn't dropped and no new software was installed and no settings were changed. Not sure if the chip is malfunctioning or not...but it does lock onto a location... the wrong location.... but it is consistently putting me in somewhere in alabama at the moment
Hi UTZorro
I can't really help you with your problem but I did notice on mine the other day that the satalites would drop in and out quickly and never lock onto more that 3. It was a very clear day with clear view of the sky. The co-ords were out by quite a long way because of it. The DOP was never very good. I restarted and it seemed to solve the problem but it wasn't a good sign. I know I hadn't dropped mine and the quickGPS data was current.
I also noticed that the voice in tomtom was all over the place.. I had to reinstall tomtom to fix the problem and put the voice on the main memory. At the time I thought it might be my 4GB SDcard but now I'm not so sure.

Hi
Have you tried leaving it on for several minutes? GPS on these sorts of devices make several assumptions as they try to lock on quickly so you don't have to wait, sometimes that initial lock is wrong due to these assumptions. Either turn it on and leave for it around 10-15 minutes in clear view of the sky or try running QuickGPS, that may help.
I've had this happen now and again, just leaving it for several minutes to get a "proper" fix and all is well.
Regards
Phil
I saw the same problem, i was driving and according to my gps i was going 485 km/hr and i was "flying": above the sea. kept the copiliot log as thought it was funny
I rebooted my kaiser and it went back to normal
This randomly happens to me also on a Stock HTC rom. Not too often though so not a major problem.
Reboot fixes it ...
I had the same problem last week. I Soft reset the device and removed the battery before it booted back up. After about a minute I put it back in and it was OK again.
happens to me as well, soft reset solves the problem... also if you have your GPS app on your SD card removal fixes this as well, very peculiar problem

I second this: I had strange behavior after a lockup and it took several tries with 10minute or so open-sky accesses to clear up:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1650269&postcount=31
Go sit on a park bench for 15 minutes or so with the GPS on and open in an app which shows the satellites in view - like TomTom/Mapopolis/whatever and see if you don't eventually get back up to the 7+ birds you normally get.
Good luck!
Richard
recently this error has been happening more frequently to me with TomTom, restarting doesnt seem to fix it all the time anymore... does anyone know what causes this? It constantly showes me somewhere in Ontario, Canada about 500 miles from where I actually am.
Is there a way to disable and re-enable the GPS chip via software similar to what a hard-reset does but without the 30 seconds+ downtime associated with the hard-reset?
This is being caused by Quick GPS. If you have not connected to the internet via Activesync for a while then when you first start your internal GPS or lose sat coverage it diverts to the last stored Quick GPS data for the most prominant 3 sats (they show up as full signal when you look a gps data in you mapping SW) that should be in your area.
Either sync at least every 5 days (on a PC with T'internet connection) or disable quick GPS and be patient for a lock.
Hope this helps.
Hi
I had the same problem, but it seems I found a solution.
I'm not 100% shure, but for what I remember I had this problem very often. like every time I was starting navigation it was wrong, so I had to soft reset - Everthing was fine - till next time when it was wrong again - and soft reset and again, again and agian.
It was so annoying - then on a Polish forum a guy wrote somethign about downloading quickGPS data (what he read here) and quickGPS was the solution, but for me it was to disalbe every sync function - because I set to sync evertime it was possible I believie that was it.
Now I'm using kaiser for about a week and testing it 2-3 times a day. and it never failed. I'm not 100% shure it was it - but it looks fine now.
So after a few days after I originally posted with this problem, it noticed it had spontaneously fixed itself after my flight back to town and I pinpointed what fixed it. (keep in mind i have stock Tilt Rom, QuickGPS was updated at the time (about 25x to be exact) and I had even hard resetted and it didn't fix it)... but here's what did fix it interestingly enough:
So, for some reason, if you have flight mode enabled on the phone, then you turn on the GPS (which I admit I did while bored midflight wondering how high up we were) it MAY get messed up like what happened to me. The only way to fix it is by putting the phone back in flight mode turning the GPS back on and then turning it off again and re-exiting flight mode. I have no idea why flight mode and the gps would be related in this siutation (it makes no sense to me)... I didn't believe it myself until I repeated this experiment twice!!! So, i'm posting this for reference to anyone who may have the same problem in the future if their phone was in flight mode and their GPS got activated and then subsequently messed up! Any thoughts?
I have used the TD with a golf navigation programme (Mobile Golf Scorer). However, using the gps drains the battery, and after just under three hours the battery was empty, the the device 'dead', so I opened it and changed the battery to a a fully charged spare. The device came back on, everything works as usual - EXCEPT the gps which can no longer get a fix. I tried to get a fix in Google maps (to check that it wasn't some sort of software failure in the golf navigation software), still no luck.
Please, can anyone help!
Try to change the gps settings to:
Port: 4
Baudrate: 19200
My NavigonNavigator 6 works only with 19200.
I sometimes have a problem too that all of a sudden my GPS doesn't get a fix, or simply looses it while driving. Reboot doesn't work. The only way I can get it to work again is with the HTC GPS Tool and give it a cold start.. So I'm going to return it to get it fixed since this happens to me several times a week..

Is this port for the hardware or software?
If one is on com 4 which should the other be set to?

Thanks for the response. I am not sure what you mean by HTC GPS Tool (I am new both to HTC and TD). Would you mind elaborating? Also by 'cold start', do you mean hard reset? Because that was what HTC Support suggested (along with setting speed to 4800, which doesn't work either). But I cannot bear spending another 6-8 hours to reestablish everything, tweaks and all, after a hard reset which would be necessary as Sprite comes up with error messages.
No no, this hasn't got anything to do with a hard reset (thank God lol).
The HTC GPS tool is for download at http://rapidshare.com/files/84815853/Nadavi_HTC_GPS_TOOL.cab and it's discussed here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=360477 .
In the first screenshot in that thread you can see a drop-down box which says "hot start". What I do is to first click the button "open"... then in the tab "sattelite" my problem gets confirmed (can't see any sattelite then). I go back to the first tab, I click the drop-down box, select "cold start", click Nav. Init. click the button close and immediatly open.... et voila, it works again. Sounds quite complicated, however once you've done it a 1st and 2nd time, it's a piece of cake lol

Akito, you are a star. Thank you so much. I will follow your procedure immediately. Thanks again.
Akito - did exactly what you said. Et voila! You are now top of my "owe-you-one"-list. Thaks again.
Hi,
I'm unable to get GPS fix.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
its the same problem for me...
help is really needed!!!
What software are you using? I had the same problem yesterday after having used it flawlessly for a month now. Had to hard reset and it started working again.
im using GARMIN MOBILE XT. v 4.10.40wp,
this software is be used on TD1, it worked perfectly well
here guys i dont have the diamond 2 but when the fuze or touch pro released it too had gps problem and this is the fix i use maybe it will work for you guys

I had this as well, waited several mins and had no results. Try the below and then things should be all well.
Run the quick gps app on the phone, that will update the phone with the sat positions. Then stand outside or by a window for a min or two and you should get them.
This is interesting for GPS problems http://blog.mohdimran.com/2008/11/htc-touch-pro-gps-problem-tweaking.html
I had problems with apparently non responsive GPS, doing all the mods in the link above has transformed it.
Also, before anything else, if it doesn't appear to work at all, make sure your software is set to look for the GPS device on COM4.
I had tried absolutely everything prior to doing a hard reset. In the end I just wrote it off as one of those quirky little things that makes this phone unique lol.
I had this problem randomly. So I checked the status of the GPS driver using Dotfred's Task Manager (Device Manager tab) (freeware at http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm) and I found that sometimes after a soft reset it was not loaded (why I do not know) but could be loaded manually.
Therefore I wrote a little utility, DeviceStart, to load and start it.
If you have this problem copy DeviceStart.exe in \Windows directory, create a shortcut like this (or use the one inside the .zip file)
55#"\Windows\DeviceStart.exe" Drivers\BuiltIn\gpsdriver 60
and put it in \Windows\StartUp directory.
DeviceStart.exe requires .NET Compact Framework 2.
The same happened yesterday to me.. No way to get it working even after 5 soft resets, the GPS just couldn't kick in. I was genuinely scared that the GPS module broke down. Even after the hard reset it behaved strangely in the beginning, only after quick gps it finally started working. The worst thing is, if this happens again and I'm abroad where I'll really need GPS - a tought of all the hassle with data roaming etc doesn't make me exactly happy.
I'm still trying to figure out what could have caused my gps stopping working. The only thing I can think of was Clean RAM, 3rd level. Is there any chance it was caused by that? If so, would the utility (Startdevice) from 2 posts above start it again?

Who knows! But in that case a soft reset should restore it working.

Check using Dotfred's Task Manager. It can show if gpsdriver is loaded or not and using it you can try loading it manually. If it succeed Startdevice can do it automatically.
I have had tomtom7 installed on my T-Mobile Compact V. Ive also upgraded .NET to 3.5 and installed g-config so as to allow TT7 to work in landscape mode. Everything worked fine, (other than the known problem of the clipped audio).
However I now find that sometimes (more and more regularly), when I start TOMTOM, I get the spash screen, but when that dsiappears, TT7 doesnt start.
The only way round this is to do a soft reset and start TT7. however when I exist and then later try to start it again it again sometimes refuses to start.
Anyone else had this problem?
Regards
Max
I have the same problem...sometimes it starts at the first time, others it doesn't start for 4/5 times...
I get that problem occasionally, but I have never had more than a single incident - simply launching the app again (without a soft reset) has always worked for me...so far.
same here.
Sometimes it starts the first time, sometimes after 2 to 10 times ! And sometimes it won't start at all and the soft reset is needed. (ClerRAM level 2 doesn't work in thoses cases).
Pretty annoying beacause sometimes during a day I have to start TomTom 20 times (and if every time I need to start it 10 times ... you do the math !)
I guess there is a process interfering with TomTom boot, but I can't seem to find wich one...
Which version of TomTom do ya all use?
I use 7.910 without any problems.
With 7.915 I had problems but not for long because I un-installed it very quick.
I use 7.910 indeed ...
what kind of problems did you have with 7.915 ?
i have the same problem but i have to just try and restart the app once or twice again for it to work. The version im using is 7.915 (installed using ttn7.915.9196.vga_black.cab). If u actually have the MS error reporting on it shows that an error occured but just asks to send info to MS. however im not sure how to check the details of the error.
any ideas?

I think the prompt asks you if you want to check for details.

Its that a stable version?
While using TT yesterday, I found that i dont have to reset, I just need to keep launching it, till it starts.
i had the same problem when i installed tomtom on the storage card, it instaled on the phone now and it starts first time, everytime
Hi,
when I wanted to use Navigon the other day it did not get any GPS signal.
When I leave it on the map display it updates like every 10 minutes with somehwere that I passed while driving.
Restarts do not help and also other GPS based tools (like MapFactor Navigator) do the same.
Did this happen to anyone else / how do I recover from that (do not really like to try a factory reset since a) I do not know if it would help and b) I don't like to reinstall and setup all apps again.....)?
Thanks,
KalleH

Similar but not quite the same. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029729
I start suspecting a firmware/SW issue?
Thanks, saw that...but actualy a "short" shutdown (wait 5 minutes) a few times did not help.
Yesterday evening I switched off the phone and only switched it on this morning and ....hey.....GPS working again....
Strange

It got worse for me (see same link above: gps stopped working a few days later)...in the end I hard reset it .... it seem that did it. No more issues since then at least. I do not know yet what caused the gps settings to be corrupted, which makes me a bit nervous since I might have to do a full hard reset again in the future (restoring all my settings + SW takes 2-3 hours for me; cannot root device because I need company access).
Even if GPS is now working since the app update I now have to stop my Navigon app and clear the cache everytime to be able to start it again....
