Does anybody know how to get rid of the trial games on a Tilt? ATT tech support says you can't, but there has to be a way.
Thanks
Get rid of trialware
The only way I know of is to do a complete reset, found in Settings/System "clear storage" and then let the phone reset. After you do the screen calibration, etc a window will pop up telling you that more software will automatically install in 3 seconds. Do a soft reset with your stylus before that, and then no third party software will install.
Kind of a "blunt attack", but it kept my device clean.
thats weird, there was an option in add/remove programs on my tilt.
I was able to remove some from addremove as well, the icons stayed though.
Just go in using windows explorer and delete the shortcuts if you don't' like fegame. I did it with all the media junk I didn't' use.
You should update to a non-tilt rom imo.

I downloaded and installed the Opera Mini Beta and was trying to find it (grrr) when I came across the JAVA icon under the Start Menu/Programs/Tools item.
There I found Opera as well as several of the games that were preinstalled. There are options to uninstall and uninstall all and I was wondering if anyone has used that option to uninstall them.
I'm not too keen on Hard Resetting my phone and going through the process to keep the apps from installing, and then reconfiguring the phone to get everything working right and tweaked out, but it might be nice to get some space back on the main device. This appears that it may be the best solution for someone like me who has gotten everything to work just the way I want it and doesn't want to risk breaking something that's working OK just to get a couple of MB back (especially now that I have a 4GB card in the thing).
BTW, Thanks to all of the posters here who have done a great job documenting all of this and taking what must have been a huge amount of time and effort. I've gotten a great deal of info and help from lurking over the past two weeks since I got my Tilt.

I don't have a Kaiser so I don't know if it works: start Java and select Menu / Uninstall All

I deleted all the games via the "remove Programs" under settings. There was one single entry for 'Cingular Midlets' or something labled to that effect.Once removed, all the cingular-crap was gone.

That will not remove all the crap. You are still left with mobiTV, cellular video, and a couple others that cannot be removed. The only way to remove them all is to manually delete the files from the OS or do a hard/soft reset.
mobitv - delete from \program files\ and the shortcut from the start menu
cellular video - simply an internet site shortcut, just delete from start menu
medianet home - same as CV, simply an internet link
My Tytn II has developed an annoying slowdown over the last few days and it's getting on my wick. I have no applications running, 54Mb of storage memory and 52Mb of program memory and yet every key press takes at least 10 seconds to respond, screen redraws are a nightmare and answering the phone is impossible because it refuses to accept button presses in time.
Clearly something is hogging the processor, but how can I find out what it is? Is there a WM equivalent of the windows Task manager that shows CPU and memory usage on the device in realtime?
I'm loathe to do a hard reset because I really don't want the hassle of reinstalling everything again.
Thanks for any assistance.
Lee.
Try this freeware app, Task Manager. It will show all processess and apps like Windows.
Can't upload as I only use RAR and it's not supported now all of a sudden.
dot fred task manager is what you want to google for.
AFAIK, .RAR attachments never worked, must be thinking of another forum...
not sure if it's related but when mine slows down l just clear the temp internet files.

That was the first thing I did and it made no difference. As I said I have plenty of storage and app memory left
Also tried Task Manager, which showed no rogue processes and the system idle process was active at about 80-90%, so that showed nothing either.
I've been deleting stuff all weekend to see if there was a dodgy app but nothing has made any difference so far. I'm going to bite the bullet and do a hard reset combined with a 6.1 firmware upgrade to make some use of it.

U may try something like SKTools or memmaid, they have some clean-up functions. The sktools have a function to free up your RAM. Its worth checking.
I am aware of the Oxios Memory Program and the use off Task Manager to save memory but I have some questions.
1. Is there a way to really shutdown a program after Using it, without going to Task Manager or something like that? I tried the HangUp Button, Home Button, Go Back button etc but it's not really shutting down the program, and only a few program's has an Exit item build in the menu.
2. Is it possible to get a list of current running applications (like PPC phones have in the top right) or an other way to navigate trough currently running applications. Sometimes I'm using mail, a Game and Media Player together and then the only way to navigate between them is by using the home button and then go back trough the list of apps, though this is very limited.
To my knowledge there is nothing like this. A solution would be to remap a hardware button state to the task manager to more easily launch.
Yeah I've modified my homescreen with a small Launcher (just the Standard last opened Apps Launcher, nothing special though). This quickens everything a lot, but as you other users know is still not optimal.
Thanks for your thoughts Anyway.
I'd recommend you Smarttoolkit (free download here). It combines hibernation (like oxios) and superb task manager (and other features). I use version RC08, because RC09 doesn't always work properly for me...
First I thought STK was some sort of Tweak Utility, but I recently saw some screenshots of a flasy program and download -> installed that and I loved it, it only had some hang up issues but after downgrading to RC08 this was reduced to almost nothing.
Later on I noticed the program I was using now is the programm you recommended me, thanks after all.

Another great program to run alongside STK is AppCloser http://wwwu.edu.uni-klu.ac.at/apitman/appcloser/index.php
Very easy to set up and you can add the apps you want to automatically close when you press home into a text pad.
Hope this helps.
I run on s620 but works on all Windows smartphones, just looking at the s730 thread due to thinking about getting one.
Hello all, i just bought an android G1 from a friend, when it came it was already installed cyanogen mod, then i thought it should of rooted, (by the way i dont know how to root or how to check if its rooted) i am very new on this platform so i have many problems and questions but for now , i tried to change google account which was my frends account to use g1 with all 100 percenti but i couldnt find any proper way to switch my google account, then i finally found hard reset thing and did it, after all i could log on my google on my g1 and i felt a bit shocked with all those missing parts on the android platform as a winmo user before, even my HTC artemis had better skills on internet browsing such flash support over skyfire and easy wifi DNS change and have free web browsing without banned pages.. anyways i was trying to install some games and apps from the market till i got the notification of low memorry ohhh ****, its a nightmare to have hundreds of apps but no place to install, how stupid but then i found a solution on the net to help installin apps directly to your sd card, while i was following this steps on the xda forum pages, i restarted my fone again after having the img file launched with 1.4 version, then i realized all my installed apps icons were lost, then i saw they were gone from my g1 but when i go to app store, they are still on my downloaded programms list, but they are not in storage, thats becase now i cant install them again because they are seen already installed, how can i fix this problem guys , and thanks for the help already.!!!!!!1
Hey, thanks for steppin' up! No matter how snarky I get, or how nice I am, some people just don't get it. It's always great when someone does get it.
If you have a cyanogenmod, then you have root.
How can i get my apps back from the market when they show apps are already installed?
I guess I'd uninstall and reinstall from within the Market App. Open "Market," click on a listing of an app that says it's installed but you can't see in your app drawer (the program for the Home screen and app drawer is call Launcher.apk... apk is the equivalent of exe, more or less). on the bottom of the screen there should be two buttons, Open and Unistall. I'd uninstall and reinstall the ones you want that way.
Yeah, I miss WinMo, too. I still use PhatPad in my old phone and PC. But the capacitive screen really is nicer for fingers, and I'm more addicted to XDA and hacking phones than I am to having a hard-core useful phone (although the native ouTube App beats any I've found for WinMo, and I actually use the native contacts app). I got tired of the bugs, too, since they'd hose the whole OS and force you to decide to reboot. Android just blows past an error and lets it not work, but keeps the OS up. When I'd run out of memory or something in WinMo on an incoming call, the phone would freeze, and then there's a 3 minute reboot. In Android, it just slows down so I get less ring time to answer, but I can call back right away, and it boots in two minutes.
Java makes really nice interfaces and games, too.
I think it'll be about a year or so and Android will be running on par with WinMo (WinPh?) with Flash and alternative browsers apps, and has a few more things to offer that other smartphone OS's can't. It's fun finding them. It's been really exciting watching the progress, and how hard people work for little or no money, just because it's open source.
Oh, and PhatPad was $44. My current Note app, NoteEverything was $2. I miss the stylus and making animations, but that's it. I certainly don't miss Activesync.
yes you are right, but the buttons in the market of that application, are both missing, inactive, you cannot click both of them, thats why i cant uninstall or install or open the app.. i still wonder how to clear the app store cache without factory reset or hard reset which is a really long way to follow.
Bought a Mini 2 yesterday. Rooted, used Titanium Backup to restore my apps and settings from my One XL, and used HTC Transfer to get text messages, contacts, etc. All seemed good...until I tried to set up ringtones. The phone ringtone was fine, as it would allow me to browse for any audio file I wanted, but when selecting the ringtone for notifications, Facebook, etc I just got a blank list. There was absolutely nothing there. After fiddling for a bit, I managed to get some custom audio to show up, but still none of the default stuff and even then files were wandering in and out of visibility.
No big deal, as I eventually got everything set up right. I installed AdFree, which recommended rebooting. So I did. And it reset a bunch of my settings, including the ringtones I'd spent all last night setting up, and deleted the text I got this morning (all other texts, which were originally from my previous handset, were untouched). So I went to set up the ringtones again, only to find that all the default ringtones were readily available, as were my custom ones, all in the one list. But I still had ads, so AdFree was apparently not doing anything.
I don't recall exactly what I did after that, but I was reading through the manual and fiddling with a few things, and when it got to the bit about sliding right or left from the lock screen to get to certain home pages, I went to try it...and it demanded I swipe up, refusing to work if I did anything else. And I had no lock screen shortcuts.
I've also lost the default HTC wallpapers; when selecting that option I just get a blank screen.
What on earth is going on?
I opened AdFree and updated, and the ads disappeared. Rebooted the phone, and they came back. And now I can't get rid of them at all.
I've also lost the ability to add lock screen widgets. The only thing I can do from the lock screen is swipe up, either from the padlock icon to unlock the phone at the screen at which it was locked, or from just below the padlock to open a Google search.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Yeah...hard reset, and dont install AdFree app. it seems its causing all the problems. If you don't like ads, use a firewall instead.
I personally recommend and use Data Defender. But there are others.
PS:Also if the app requires internet, live with the adds and support the developer.
Good Luck
How will the hard reset affect the root?
What does data defender do, just prevent apps connecting to the internet? I find most of the in-app ads less intrusive than the web browser ones. Snopes in particular throws up a full-screen pop-up on every page, which is just obnoxious.
ETA: Actually, it's not AdFree that's causing issues (or at least it's not just AdFree), as the default ringtones/notifications/alarms were inaccessible before I installed it. It was only after installing it that they came back.
Hard reset shouldn't unroot your phone
If you prevent apps from accessing internet, there won't be any ads.
Sent from my HTC One mini 2 using XDA Free mobile app
Seems to mostly be working, but I've lost the ability to use custom notifications for Messages, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and twicca. If I use ES File Explorer to choose a file, I get a 'wrong filetype' error, despite the fact that the audio is in the same format as the default notification audio (FLAC). If I choose Media Storage, it just shows the default sounds with none of my custom sounds. Previously, I'd somehow managed to get my custom sounds to show up in that list.
EDIT: Figured it out. Had to move/copy the files into the 'notifications' folder on the SD card. Don't recall having done that previously, so I have no idea how I'd got it working before, but it seems like it's all good now.
