So I installed xpress mail on my tilt and also the client software that connects to my lotus notes server. My phone is registered and it has downloaded the mail and the calendar entries. I also have enable push set in the xpress mail settings section.
I send a test email to my work email to see how fast I get the email on my phone. I didn't get it for a while, so I went to http://xpressmailpe.cingular.com and after login in, I did see that it was connected to my desktop client and the new email was displayed in the inbox.
Seems like the push is not working, I can get the new email if I do a manual send/receive. I have send several test emails and waited for hours to see if the push works, but no luck.
I was then reading the manual and I read about enabling the direct push icon in the connection manager. However, my direct push icon is greyed out and so I can not enable it
Please help if anyone knows why the push is not working and how can i enable direct push in the connection manager. Do I need to install Black Berry Connect to get the direct push functionality working?
Much appreciated!

Edit:
I installed the blackberry connect cab files found on here, but the email setup options are greyed out. What do I need to do to be able to select the option and set it up?
I'm running an unlocked tilt on t-mobile.
edited to make more sense.
Since I can't get the blackberry connect to work, here is where my main question lies.
When using outlook on my computer to pull my emails I have to dial into a VPN so my pop3 and smtp servers were 172.etc,etc. When I used my blackberry I set it up on the t-mobile website with a totally different actual named server. I don't care about push as if I only get it twice a day I am fine with it. How can I set this email address up?
Hi all,
Little question here. My Kaiser connects to the internet trough wifi (will soon be able to connect through 3G) which works fine. I set up some settings to auto-check for new mail. I get gmail over pop3 and it nicely gives me a notification for new mail, it plays a sound and everything. However when my Windows Live mail (hotmail) synchronizes and it gets new mail it doesn't notify or play a sound in any way. In HTC Home the number does change to 1new mail but I'd like to be notified with a sound or message. I haven't found any settings that work yet in either the Live mail program or the phone itself.
I tried to let my hotmail mail send to my gmail account but hotmail won't do that unless the adress is @msn or @live @hotmail, so that workaround isn't working.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to get this notification running.
I have my mail set up through pop3 to connect to gmail and all works fine, except that once I send an email I then receive a copy of the email I just sent. Any ideas?
It doesn't really cause any real functional issues other than just being really annoying.

It sounds to me like you have gmail configured to save sent emails in a sent folder and you have POP configured to download that folder as well.
I think those are settings you probably need to tweak in your Gmail pop settings on the web and not in the messaging client on the device.
interesting, I looked within gmail's settings and did not find anything to do with copies of sent items. is there a way to configure this within wm outlook?
is imap a better interface? does it work with wm outlook?
Thanks
Gmail:
Forwarding and POP/IMAP
1. Status: POP is enabled for all mail that has arrived since 7:49 am
Enable POP for all mail (even mail that's already been downloaded)
Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on
Disable POP
2. When messages are accessed with POP >> keep in inbox
3. Configure your email client (e.g. Outlook, Eudora, Netscape Mail)
Configuration instructions
My understanding is this is a 'side effect' (i.e. nothing you can fix) of how gmail handles E-mails...
Any time you send an e-mail from your device you will receive a copy of it on your phone (when using gmail)..
My understanding is this is limited to gmail only....
That said, I only check my 2 gmail accounts from my phone, and never reply on the phone, so doesn't bother me too much ;-)
Had the same issue. Solved the problem by switching to IMAP protocol. Now everything works flawlessly
And by the way, this relates to Gmail only, other mailboxes work fine

that's odd, I switched to imap last night and tried it out with the same results. I'll check my settings again to verify the changes took effect.
otherwise, it looks like I may be stuck for now. not a big deal, though. thanks for the info guys.
Mine does the same thing from the phone. If I send through my outlook account with my gmail I don't get a copy of the message.
I am trying to set up my device for push email from my company exchange server. I am following the instructions but cannot find exchange activesync in the comms manager. I also do not have exchange server in the "In Your e-mail provider" drop down. Am I missing something? Please help. Thanks
Figured out how to set up the exchange activesynch over wifi or 3G. It is not as statd in the manual, you actually have to set it up through activesync. I am still stuck with push email as it is not in my cennection manger menu. Any help?
You would probably need an application like advanced configuration by Schaff to activate the MS Direct Push button in your Comm Manager.
You can find Adv Config using the search feature on the site.

Hi, yes Hotmail does support push email. Just set up your email as normalNext step consist of configuring your email sync option.
go to MENU -> ACCOUNTS -> ACCOUNTS
Then, MENU ->OPTIONS -Select HOTMAIL. Select Opttion 3, i.e SYNC SCHEDULE. Then set the SYNC FREQUENCY to 'AS IT ARRIVES' (Drop down list).
Press Done, and exit.
Thats it! Ejoy your push email!!! Well obviously if this fails, i dont know what to suggest ...
everytime i try and set it up as normal it doesnt detect any settings or gives me a chance to download like it does with a o2 account it just opens the web browser i cant figure out how to use the push feature to get it to come to the phone
