Hi,
Own a 8125/Wizard, and it never vibrated on startup/reboot.
So, my 8925 is annoying the heck out of me when it vibrates on boot!
Any way to disable it? Doesn't seem that a registry hack would process the desired change so early in the HTC startup sequence. (Sorry if this has been asked before -- I couldn't find it in a google/wiki search.)
Thx.
Yes, it has been asked for hundreds times before; and still has no solution. You can always put it (Kaiser) in your shock if you find boot up vibration is annoyed; or you may want to take out the vibrator, too.
I don't find it annoying at all. I find it really informative so in case I turn it off and I accidentally turn it on, if I feel that vibration, I can quickly take out the battery before any sound can come out of the phone.

How often do you need to reboot? Other than software installs I rarely need to reboot, is it really that much of an inconvenience?

Put it in my shock?
It was asked before? Sorry -- didn't see anything related, using searches on "disable" and "vibrate" and ("*boot*" or "*start*").

In this case, it's an inconvenience. (But if it were preference, would that change the question at all? )
I've been needing to reboot my Kaiser frequently because of a battery drain problem. Reboot triggers the vibrate, which is not helping my low battery situation.
I don't turn off my phone -- I always keep it on (unless it dies as described above), and charge every night. So, I don't need to know when it turns on. The vibrate notification on boot is only wasting battery for me -- even without a drain problem. (But I wouldn't want to permanently disable the vibrate, in case I need vibrate mode once every ~2 months or so, like in a noisy environment.)
Put it like this guys -- was there ever any good purpose for when your computer beeps on boot? Just because it can, does that mean it should? Default should be 'disabled'. Otherwise, HTC should at least provide us with an OPTION to disable! Just like the bios option to disable a computer speaker's beep on boot.
As to battery drain, that's another issue. (If anyone is curious, it's the original 1350 mAh, and it's heating to 108 F using up to 650 Ah. Haven't isolated which app might be doing it. Tried WM5 and WM6 roms. Hard resets. Reflash. Disabled BT, GPS, HSPD, and took all apps off auto-download data. Ordered new 2400 and 1600 mAh batteres, in case my battery is fried.... but I think that's just me being optimistic.)

I don't know about the whole vibrate on startup thing as it does not bother me since I rarely re-boot the phone, but the beep on start up on a computer did originally (and possibly still does) serve a good purpose. The beeps were used to convey error codes. For example, on one of my old pc's, 1 beep meant things were ok. two beeps indicated an error in the processor, etc.
I know this was off post... sorry

I would like my Tilt to automatically lock itself when I put it in stand by. I tried iLock and it worked pretty well, however, it would sometimes not come out of lock fully when I received a fall call and cause the phone to lag. I also tried automatic locker that comes with BatteryStatus plug in, but when I get a call, I can pick it up, but then I cannot do anything during the call until I unlock it which is super annoying.
So I am looking for something that will put my phone to lock when I press the power button, and then unlock itself when there is a phone call.
Anyone knows any app that can help me?

BatteryStatus will exactly that. Originally this was developed for the Prophet and also provided overclocking of the OMAP CPU in the Prophet. Last time I tried it, on a Hermes it was working fine if I left the overclocking stuff disabled. Since then I see that Mr Chi-Tai Dang has removed any references to the Prophet and XDA Neo from his description of the application, and indeed the version history does now also mention Samsung CPUs, so it should also be safe to run it on the Kaiser.
Note: I recall seeing it here that the overclocking functions in BatteryStatus should be OFF on the Kaiser to avoid battery drain and overheating.

yup I saw that and it does what I need.. however, there is a problem
When it locks, and I get a call, I can answer the call. Then, if I want to end the call or use any options during the call, I have to unlock the phone which is annoying.
I remember using this on my old JAMin and had no issues taking calls. But it caused serious problems when trying to use Spb Backup with automatic nightly backup. Spb Backup would do a soft reset after completing the backup and this would make the phone hang.

That is what I would do. Maybe OP is asking something that he is never going to find or him have to do the reg tweak himself.
I have not tested on my Tilt, but This is what happen on my MDA.
I locked my phone and put it into standby, I receive a call and I was able to use note to write stuff and record the conversation(without unlock the phone). The phone will lock itself after the phone call. Is this what you are looking for?
The answer is on the today's menu.....
It did work on WM5, Im not sure if is the same on WM6.
p.s. I really find point less by locking up the phone because stand by does the trick. Unless you password protect your phone and that is different story.
lock
another way to lock your phone is it use Vijay's little baby It uses the built in lock that is provided within the O.S. however you DONT need to have the today plugin enabled for it to work....
www.vijay555.com
On my old C500, I had found a program that automatically locked the device after a user configurable time - much more useful than manually locking as you didn't have to remember to do it. And IIRC it didn't cause issues with calls. Obviously this prog (even if I could find it again!) wouldn't work with the Kaiser, but surely something similar could be done?
this option has also gsmart i128. you will set time for how long time device has to lock automaticaly. very useful function..

This is my first time using this site and it's great! I'm sorry for any stupid questions I ask that may have been answered somewhere else already. I have the ATT Tilt/HTC Kaiser 8925 and love it...recently the ringer randomly switches to vibrate. It does it sometimes when I'm using the calendar/appointments and sometimes when I haven't even touched it. I've seen tons of posts on HTC Home versions that affect it but I found (then lost) a thread that said something about about a Registry Edit you could to to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated or any other thoughts that may help fix this. I keep missing calls and it's driving me crazy!! Thanks so much!
i haven't searched yet, but mine will switch to any level, i keep it on vibrate while at work(Kohl's) and today it switched to loud while in my pocket and i didn't realize it till my VC started to read an extremely long text in front of my boss. fortunately he thought it was the coolest thing ever but he said it will never happen again or i'm fired(ass hole) but yeah i will post what i find when i search later

Are you using a stock ROM?
Unless people have had the exact same problem, it's going to be hard to help you without more info on what software is on your device.
If it does happen to be a random occurrence, a hard reset usually fixes it.
i have a similar problem with my tilt
i have noticed this hapening on my tilt which is running duttys latest rom. its only been happening in the last fed weeks.
ive also noticed that sometimes the phone will ring for a couple of seconds then go into vibrate mode as well.
i found my problem to be the settings in spb phone suite. if you have any profiles set etc if you change the system settings spb phone suite will automatically change them back after like 10-20 minutes. hope this is a help to some people. but i was about to go crazy till i sat and stared long and hard at my phone and realized what could also be the problem. i no longer have the issue!
i think this happens when your profile is set to automatic... it takes your status from your calender (if you have set it to busy in some meeting) it will switch to vibrate and if there is nothing for you in the calender it switches to the normal mode.....
I had the problem, then I flashed to L26 v6 and no more problems.

*Dumb question, but how and where do you SET your PROFILE? There's tons of options on the phone, but I don't know of anywhere to change something that says profile from automatic to something else? Any info. on that would be great and I'll try your solution. I'd rather not do a hard reset if I can help it. Thanks!

Looks like this might be due to HTC Home. It appears there is an update / fix:

I have had my Vario III for almost a year now (used to have a Vario II before this), and I've never had this problem before.
All of a sudden yesterday, my phone screen just went dim. I didn't install anything new and it didn't fall or anything. Since then, I cant use the power button on the side to switch the screen off, and the phone simple wont charge. I've tried doing a soft reset many times.
While the phone is restarting, the screen starts off bright as usual, but while in the loading process (10 secs after it starting rebooting), the brightness goes down approx 60-70%.
If I keep the power button down for a while, I get the option if I want to switch my phone off. If I say yes, the loader keeps spinning and the phone doesn't switch off, regardless how long I wait.
The phone is still usable and all the programs still work.... but its not charging and screen wont turn off. What should I do?
By the way, I haven't changed the ROM. I still use the original ROM that came with T-Mobile.
... And you didn't drop it right? Sounds like there was a hardware failure for sure...
Any Ideas?
My phone ran out of battery now. Still not charging. Its my only phone and its annoying me. I don't know if its the ROM thats gone buggy. If I need to change the ROM on it, I HAVE to get the battery fully charged right?
I cant think of any other possibilities. Any ideas would be great.

No, I didn't drop it. I was just using it normally and it just decided to do that. I wasn't connected to the internet at that time either.
Well the ROM on the phone wouldn't cause it not to charge. The ROM is obviously not even taken into consideration when the device is off and charging (or in your case, not charging).
Have you tried different cables to see if it is working, i.e. USB vs wall-charger?

Yup... tried different chargers and different wall sockets.
The problem I explained earlier did happen before, about a month ago, and it had same symptoms. And even then it happenned for no particular reason. But after soft resetting it a few times, it sorted itself out. This time, nothing seems to work.
Man that stinks. I hate to say it but it definitely sounds like a hardware failure

Well... Good thing I sync'd my phone last night and transferred all data onto the memory card.
I'll just keep working on it, see if I can figure something out. If I do, I'll post the solution here for future reference. Till then, if anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
Thanx
I have my Kaiser upgraded from Abusalza ROM v7 to v10.
It works like a charm and I'm loving it so far until now.
The battery is dead and when I plugged in either usb charger or power charger, the notification led lit up solid orange/amber like it supposed to and then it blinks.
I checked and later found my phone isn't charging at all. Is this related to bad battery or is it because of incompatible radio?
Oh, and when I tried to switch on the device it just hang. Perhaps it doesn't have enough juice to boot up.
Anyone got same problem with me? Please advice how to fix this.
Thanks.
If you have already cleaned the battery terminals, I would suppose it is new battery time.
Well, I was sort of having a problem similar to this running the same ROM series. For me though, the notification LED would blink, even if it wasn't plugged in and there were no notifications. I would also get it when plugged in at times. This was intermittent, since it would randomly happen for some unknown reason. To fix it, I just killed all running programs, and reset the phone once or twice and it went away.
For you, if the ROM worked fine before, but isn't working now, a bad radio would not cause your problem. An incompatible radio would have caused you boot up problems and such from the moment you flashed, not later on. Don't know exactly what to tell you, except try a new battery. Get back to us after, and if it doesn't work, we can figure something else out. Hope your problem gets resolved by the battery.

Keep in mind that my phone is currently out of juice i.e. dead.
So, supposedly by plugging in the charger I can restore the battery but in this case that didn't happen.
I guess I would better off go to the shop where I bought the battery and ask a replacement. The battery was new and not even 1 months old.
I will keep you posted. Thanks for the advice guys.
Does the LED light up still, even with the battery dead? If so, wait about 20 min for it to recharge, even though I am assuming you have already done this. If it is completely drained, it most likely won't power back until it has enough power to do so on it's own, even with the charger connected.

At first it blinking and then I pulled out the battery and reinsert it into the phone. Now it lit amber light and then in few minutes turned green. Tried to switch it on and the screen loading fine until at one time it show loading icon and then shutdown.
You assumed it right though, I've been letting the phone connected to the charger since last night and still no juice pumped into the battery I presume as I can't turn it on.

There's a technical term for items which fail very early on called infant mortality - this may be whats happened. See how it goes with a battery swapped in the shop. If you can get it to work by putting in a fully charged, known good battery but the recharging function doesn't work (or you get a flashing red light after a few minutes again), also try cleaning the spring terminals with IPA or contact cleaner applied using cotton buds. If that still doesn't work but you can boot the device into windows (with the shop borrowed battery), perform a hard reset before the battery goes flat/below 50 % and test again.
okay, I found my other battery which is I know work fine and put it in the device.

I can but it'll encourage others to ask without searching first and given there's already a wiki here that covers Kaiser Resets perfectly well (and the Kaiser users manual that comes with the device - let me guess, you don't have that), you'll need to read the wiki and help yourself.

duuuuudddeee....the page you linked to above describes a way to do a HARD RESET for your EXACT requirement...read it again.
also, if it is OFF to begin with, then powering it up (even if it hangs ultimately) is equivalent to a SOFT RESET. if it doesn't complete startup and always hangs, then a HARD RESET is the way to go.

and if by "reset it", you mean "flash a new ROM", you can search for that also and you'll find plenty of guides and tutorials and FAQs...but go one step at a time and do a hard reset first (remember, you will lose all data and non-default programs after the hard reset).

You've found the right section but just the hard reset section will be applicable. You don't need the bootscreen (which is what that button combination is all about), just a hard reset (making sure the battery has a decent charge of at least 50% before starting).
Thank you for all the help.
I've managed to reset my phone back to OEM and then flash 3.34 hardspl and radio and abusalza v10. Looks like it back functioning.
Will monitor it to see what could be wrong in these few days.
I charge my phone every night and have been woken up at stupid o'clock by the battery full notification.
Googling the problem offers the solution of renaming the sound file on rooted devices, but the screen still turns on.
I know there are apps that will silence your phone until a set time, but I still want to hear if I get a call (in case it's urgent).
Any suggestions?
