upgradint to 8gb transflash - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

can I copy everythin from my present 2gb card. including installed programs onto new card and everything work.?

I think this will work indeed. Why don't you try this out and post the result?

Should work fine - I did it a while ago going from a 1GB card to a 2GB card.
The only thing to be aware of is if you have named your card. I think you need to name the second card the same or some software goes a bit wappy.
Cheers
Rob

thanks will post resulting when I get the card hopefully soon

i went from a 2gb to an 8gb w/o any issues....
just copied the files over....

Swapping MicroSD Cards

Greets,
I recently got my tilt, and, while waiting for the 8GB MicroSD cards to be released, I took my 512MB card from my Verizon phone and put it in the tilt.
I have successfully installed game and utility programs onto it, and now want to know how to go about installing a larger card.
I guess my question is twofold:
1) Would the Tilt still recognize the installed programs if I simply copied all the files off of the 512MB card (onto a PC and then) onto the larger card?
2) Do I need to uninstall from the old card, before removing it, and then reinstall everything?
Thanks!
You should be fine just copying the files to your new card.
yes
I upgraded from a 2G Sandisk to an 8G Sandisk card, dumped all files and folders from the 2G to my PC (Make sure you go Tools>folder options>View tab>SHOW hidden files and folders), then copied back onto the 8G card... all programs worked, caller ID pix, ringtones etc. - no problem

Changing SD cards?

I wanted to ask before I did it. If I transfer all my data that is on my 4gig card to my 8gig card and switched it out would it be fine? I have a lot of back up files and stuff on my 4gig, but doesn't the new card have to be formatted before you can use it? Sorry, I'm real stupid when it comes to external storage.
Thanks,
Alex
It does have to be formatted as a fat32 drive, which you can do in Windows.
I did the same thing though (transferring from one card to another) and it worked fine.

Cool, Thanks.
You're gonna be just fine transferring content from a 4GB to an 8GB SD. Just watch out for potential hidden files that might not get copied in the process. Usually they are either temporary or cache files that will get regenerated when you use the new SD for the first time.
When I put my card in the card reader my computer doesn't find it, then I put it back in my phone and it's fine. What could be the issue? Would a PNY micro sd adapter work with a sandisk micro sd card?
Well, I found out it was my card reader. It wouldn't detect anything over 2gigs. That's odd, but I got it to work at home. Thanks for all the help.

[Q] Upgrade SDCard on CM 7.1

Hi,
I have CM7.1 installed on a 2GB sdcard, but now i want to upgrade it to an 8GB sdcard but without losing everything that i have installed right now. How can i do this in order to keep everything working with the new card?
Thanks!!
You could use the WinImage (or whatever you originally used) to clone it to another card.

Thanks for your answer but what about the extra space? i think that if i use WinImage it will still leave the partitions using only 2GB instead of 8GB.
I used minitool partition wizard home edition which is free. Copy the card from the old card to the new card and move the partition to occupy all of the new card.

It worked great!! thanks a lot!
I downloaded that program but am not seeing my SD card listed. My SD card is drive G: but I'm not seeing it. I'm looking at moving from a 2gb to a 16gb SD card

You could try using Easeus, which is also free.
Thanks, I figured it out!

[Q] switching to 32gb sd help

hi, im a phone newbie first off. I just bought a 32gb sd card to replace the 8gb HTC gave me.
Do i just copy and paste all the files on the 8gb to the fresh 32gb?
And do i need to format the 32gb sd card...or make any new files?
Thanks alot.
Hey there, I'm doing the exact same thing at the moment!
I checked and both the 8GB card and the new 32GB are partitioned with FAT32. I'm copying over exactly what was on my old one onto the new one as I'm writing and I'm expecting it to work.
I'll report back in a few minutes with a confirmation.
UPDATE:
I've successfully copied over the contents from one micro SD card to the other and can confirm that everything works fine! No special formatting needs to be done either. Transfer your data away and you should be good to go!

The one that came with the phone was a class 4 and the new 32GB I'm now using is a class 10. Works just fine on CM7 as well as on Virtuous Quattro
That's good to know. Waiting for my new sd card to come.

SD card question

I am sure this has been covered before but I finally made a boot SD for CM7 and while it works pretty good I want to try a class 4 sandisk SD card to see if its any faster. My question is can I just copy everything from my card now to the new card and insert it in my Nook?

Not using windows explorer. But you can get the free program win32diskimager. It can read your card and write the image to your PC. Then you can write it to your new card.

uSD Card Size
Hi,
I notice a lot of Rom images say will will work in a 4GB card.
Is there any problems using a larger card, like 8GB?
Thanks.
Everett1954
Yep. Use above method to put your image file on anything up to 32gig card; be sure you are using Sandisk brand, though. Small block read/write speed makes this the Nookers choice.
I just migrated from an 8gb to 16gb Sandisk card last night. I used win32diskimager to make an image of the 8gb card and then wrote that to the 16gb card. I then had to use a combination of Linux GParted and EASEUS partition manager to modify the partition sizes. I wanted to make more space available for apps instead of the 1GB (I upped it to 2GB), and expanded the CM7 partition to fill the remainder of the drive. I booted from the new card and everything seems to be working fine.
