I've really appreciated all the help I've gotten from this site. Unfortunately, I dropped my ATT Tilt into my kitchen sink full of water. That was a couple of weeks ago. Now it doesn't work. It won't turn on, and when I plug it in, it only shows a red light instead of an amber light. I know alot of you are messing around constantly with these phones. I don't know if this phone is worth anything, but if somebody wants a project, you're welcome to it. I have no idea if the phone is even worth the trouble. I also have a USB cradle as well as a wall charger that I'll throw in. Feel free to email me direct if you are interested.

pull the back cover & battery. Lower left side, just to the right of the lower left copper colored contact is a small white square. If it is still white, try this to get
rid of the red LED when you turn it on. take the battery out and rapidly push it against the 4 battery contacts multiple times. Then, put the battery back
in, connect the charger and see if the red LED goes away and the amber charge light comes back on. If it does, try powering it back on and see if it comes back to life.
Might be worth a try.
Re
Lol, you've definitly got a good mood. I think lots of people are intrested in the device. So you should donate him to the driver project people i guess....
But first i would try the things mentioned above here, also try to power on without battery as well, remove the battery for some time etc. etc....
Maybe you can get it back to work...!
At least i think donating is a good idea, I'm having one already so maybe you make another person happy!
cheers!
I would love to have it.
what's the contact infor for the driver project people?
tried that.....didn't work.....and the little white square is red......guess i shouldn't have had that last glass of wine....lol
take the thing appart and blowdry it. When I say take it appart I mean way appart. there should be just 4 skrews. you can get the screwdriver at radioshack. One of the screws is covered by a void sticker.
when you take it appart inspect the board to see if there are any burn marks or "bisters" . if that is the case, it might be worth parts or something. I think that the camera is more than 1.3mpx and it might be interchangable with the older models of HTC phones (provided someone loads the drivers)
Belive it or not it's not as easy to kill a phone just by dropping it into water.
By the way, WD40 is a water reppelant originaly designed by or for the military to help deal with the wet electronics issues. it does not cunduct electricity. so if you need to "clean" the greesy **** that was in your sink, you can use that.
The other thing you can do is replace the red sticker with a white one and send it in for repair. I would try blowdrying it first.
I had a phone I dropped into a glass of beer once. within 3 days it worked (after it dried fully) don't try to turn your phone on while it is wet. useless and you can burn something out.
I might be tossing my Tilt to eBay soon. I figure its easier to just get a real TomTom for my GPS and use my iphone which I just updated the firmware last night to the latest 1.1.3 AND jailbroke it. It's just a nice device to use, and I've been using both, so I can say that based on hands-on, NOT opinion.
how much you want for it? I want it if it is reasonable.
shipping plus ten bucks for the trouble.....you get the DOA Tilt, wall charger, and USB cradle.

Jeez.....i had no idea there would be such an interest. i probably should have just put it up for auction. Anyway, the phone is sold. No more emails please....lol.....if anyone wants to make alot of freinds just advertise that you want to get rid of a broken phone. Too funny.
Thank you to the guy who bought it....and good luck with it.
glad to see you got something out if it

just FYI, you can't burn anything if it is wet. water is not conductive for DC. only AC. otherwise your car would be toast everytime it rains
Hey guys, I am sad to inform you that I now have a dead Tilt. It just goes haywire and presses all kinds of buttons when you turn it on. Randomly chose to do that one day. I bought it from someone else for $400 and now I am screwed. Possibly the worst day for me as I have only had it for like a month. And the water damage indicator is slightly pink, probably damaged when sold to me.

why dont you contact the vendor and see if you can get a refund if you didnt state that the device had a problem with it before you sold it to me.
I tried but he said that the I bought the phone a month ago and that I have to take it up with ATT. Which I can't do because I am with Tmobile.
Really , 1 month is pretty late to claim anything. If its screwed up within a week , maybe.
well , To bad for you. Hopefully you can sell it on ebay for some money. Make sure you describe your phone has problem and sold as is.
Do you know anyone with AT&T? You could have them call AT&T's handset replacement department. If the moisture indicator is only slightly pink, as opposed to full on "1980's teenage girl pink", you should be able to exchange it.
I had a similar issue with the indicator on my 8125 getting turning slightly pink, but AT&T (Cingular at the time) replaced it for me.

I'd take the battery out, put it in with dessicant...I think thats what those things are called that draw moisture outta things...and pray.
Good luck to you..that really bites
I have several friends who have AT&T. Could they go into a corporate store and get a replacementfor me even though they did not have that phone on their line initially? What if they say it is water damaged and charge the full amount of the phone? The phone works now after leaving it in rice overnight but it won't turn off completely, it will just immediately turn back on when shut down. I didn't get any water on the phone or anything but it is extremely humid where I live.

I have AT&T and they registered my IMEA into their system when I bought the phone. I cannot imagine the look I would get if I then walked in with a broken iPhone and asked them to replace it for free.
Caveat Emptor = Buyer beware
P.S. My GF's Samsung upstage was left in a puddle of water ( cold drink condensation right next to it ), and the only problem was the back screen was foggy. Held a blow dryer on it for a few minutes, and stuck it in the fridge overnight. Got rid of some of the moisture, and the rest dissipated over time. Are you sure this is moisture related? I had an old XDA II that did what you describe when the battery got below ~10%. Perhaps this is battery charge related?
Well battery was at about 93% when it happened. So I don't think it's the battery. What does sticking it in the fridge do for the condensation?
I am not a genius, but I would imagine putting it in the fridge could be a horrible thing. What happens to a beer when it begins to warm up after removed from the fridge? It sweats (condensation)
For the pink indicator, once it turns pink, it will never turn back white again. Thats what its for is to indicate "water damage" at some time, not indicating its wet right now. I'm going through this myself. My Tilt has NEVER been near water (haven't had it in the rain or anything). My USB port quit working but when they asked me the color of that indicator and I said Pink, I was out of luck. They told me just having the phone in the bathroom when you take a shower, if it gets steamy enough then the indicator will turn pink. Really sucks, but AT&T warranty looks at that and makes a decision on it form there.
HTC told me that they see the indicator, but the techs look at the copper to see if there is oxidation and all to determine water damage. So while AT&T won't do a replacement due to a pink indicator strip, HTC might still cover it with their warranty (but if they don't you'll have to pay for the fix, and if you opt not to pay, you still have to pay them like $30 plus shipping to and from them for looking at the phone).
I may look at sending my phone to http://pocketpctechs.com/main~unit~...lt+full+service+repairs~item~75H00465-00M.htm to have mine fixed for $80, but for now am using BT to activesync. You might call them to see if they will look at it and give you an estimate for repairs for your issue.
Best of luck with this.
Okay I fell in the river not to long ago and killed my Telus Motorola Milestone. I went out and bought a new desire cause I had rooted the milestone and cause I had fell in the river... Now I'm thinking maybe I can re-flash it to stock and try to return it for warranty, but I was wondering a couple things..
1. Can it be completely returned to stock? I recently sent in a SE X10a and they only wanted the phone itself, not the backing/battery/sim/microSD.. if this is the case, maybe they cant tell?
2. I heard there was a piece of paper on it somewhere that is supposed to change color if it gets wet/damaged.. where is this, what does it look like Not wet, and after it gets wet..
The phone itself boots and seems to run semi-fine.. but the camera button kinda has Multiple Personality Disorder.. sometimes it's a camera button, sometimes it's volume up or down LOL
Also, does anyone know what would happen if I sent it in and they found out it was splashed? it was never really soaked, and I dried it off as soon as possible (even used canned air and the Rice in a baggy methods) Will they contact me to tell me how much to fix, Just bill me and return it, or just say F* me and send it back?
Kinda like to know if anyone has had this kinda experience
they have ways of knowing the water was in it... and its a little square that is white when dry and pink or red when wet...
if you send it they'll most likely bill you. they don't 'fix' phones

I had an ATT Tilt and when I took it apart I found not just the one by the battery buy a couple more inside the phone as well. Pretty sure most phones would have the same thing. They can be pretty sensitive too. Sometimes really high humidity will change the color.
Hello there xda community... I am new to this forum and have just succesfully managed to wreck my Xperia Zs screen.
I have only wanted to clean my phone under the sink (its rated for low jets of water) wiped it dry and then after a few minutes, fractal structures if I may call it, started to creep up all over the screen.
It started slowly from the corners jumping all across the screen in seconds. (very weird)
I have uped some screen shots! This is my second Z i got. My first one, I exchanged it because it had burned pixels on the screen with which I could not live with.
I just dont seem to be lucky with this phone! :/
I had all ports closed and no water was detected by the detectors. I believe the leak came from the power or volume buttons but who knows?
I feel like my trust to Sony is broken.
I have seen others put it under the pool with no probs... but well someone has to be the lucky one! :/
I think am gonna turn back to my old Nokia 3330!
P.S do you think that I stand a chance of exchanging it since no water detection was triggered? Am going to try any way.

sorry to see that man, the best thing you can do is try and explain your reason...you can try to let it dry and exchange it.
Since under flaps there is no red colored markers, I belive you can get replacement. It looks like it was manufacturing defect phone and this should not happen. I was scared to put my second XZ under watter, feeling of flaps was like they were used and not able to close as they should, so I made small test step by step, but now I am sure it works. And yes, as some people use it under water in pools, I don't plan to do that hehe.
Wish you luck with service!

After playing around with it under the tap and a little bit of water to test the resistance on day 1, I decided to avoid water whenever possible.

That's smart. I can say it is quite water proof however, I had a scare because the main speaker took nearly 12 hours to dry before it started working again. (I researched and found out this is normal as water gets in the speaker. So no more
It's nice knowing that during catastrophic accidents and heavy rain this phone will be functional though!
sorry to hear that this has happened.
That is definitely water ingress into the screen. since the front and back are glued into the frame it looks like that's where the failure occurred and water entered that way.
Since the water indicators are still white I would stand your ground until they give you a replacement.
Same scenario, my phone is under going rice treatment. I'm encountering a weird problem, my phone's LED went red and vibrated 3 times and went off. The cycle goes on and on and its about 5 hours since. Any way to resolve it? :crying:
Edit: Unable to get to fast boot, when unplugged the phone stops the cycle.
As said before, if the water ingress tapes are still intact (white) then take the phone for a warranty replacement.
To the OP - If and when you get a replacement, I would suggest not exposing the phone deliberately to water, especially not just to clean it. Get a microfibre cloth, for goodness sake!

I precisely lock all the flaps and wash my Z from time to time.
No problems whatsoever, the only thing is that the loudspeaker get's stuck with water and you have to wait
for it for some time to come back to normal loudness.

Thanks for the advices! I took it back today and got a replacement. I didnt say anything about the phone getting in contact with water. Infact they didnt even ask. They checked the tapes and looked suprised because to them it looked like something between a crack and a smudge though it didnt have the symptoms of a crack. (probably because of the sharp lines formed on the screen?) I just kept my mouth shut and was waiting for their question about water which never came. Anyway it ended with a happy end and I got my 3rd Xperia Z within 2 weeks! Awesome!!
So the moral of the story is do not get overconfident with water resistant stuff!
After this am thinking that I could have bought the S4 without all the disturbing flaps, since from now on am going to avoid water in every way. I had a quick look at it when I was at the shop...it really does not feel like a 5" screen comparing to the Z, but the screen is just a bit to colorful for my taste.
I am sure we will be seeing more of these water damages as time passes...
Water Resistance on the Z is more of a marketing "trick" than a reliable feature!
Hello, community.
My Xperia Z also got wet (for 1200th time) but this time is different than any previous - seems like water got inside my Xperia...so, I am not able to turn my phone on.
Actually, it was working for 15 minutes and just after shot down.
I used hair dryer...no luck, get reboot signal once and that's it.
An hour ago I bought some rice, placed Xperia into it...so, I will waiting for few days, who knows, maybe It is going to come back to life again
If so - great...If it doesn't - ok, I can live without it
i just bought mine and i took it for a test in the pool and took pics and video and i opened to see if water got inside and yes some drops where inside but not in the important area so i dry it close it BUT it seems that it got water inside somehow cuz :crying::crying::crying::crying:l later i try to see the pics and the screen went wild and then the horror screen went from white to black and that was it i try to dry it with hairdryer nothing i came back to live for a sec only to do the same then the rice trick nothing now is all black i can hear the phone respond but no image and im in despair since att told me warranty is void cuz the water indicator is red so im f up. Why 2 posts about the same issue. Sounds like you have your answer. Your phone is busto so unless you wanna go as far as replacing the screen yourself which will probably not resolve all your issues. Stop swimming with your phone :banghead:

The phone is advertised as "Water Resistance" not "Water Proof".....SO if your wife or kids spill something on it or you drop it in a pool and get it out quickly, you should be okay......If you put it in the pool and played with it (Took pictures etc...) Thats a NO NO.....
It seems you had your S5 in the pool, having fun and now its damaged. I did the same thing with my S 5 at first. I took it in the pool and took pictures under water, and had fun. The speaker sounded like it had water all in it, but after it dried up, the speaker was fine. So is my phone.
But the S 5 Active is rated i believe 30 Minutes, up to 3 feet. SO there is the problem----you have the regular S 5 and its dead bro.....
You need a new phone. I don't think anybody has a fix for water damage. It burnt up some thing inside. I hate to say it , but you will have to get another one. I learned a lesson and hopefully others did by our stories.

I can't believe everyone is telling this guy he's SOL. Yes it was a silly thing to do but who hasn't made a mistake?
Jsong, the rice trick takes weeks typically to work, helps if you can get it in direct sunlight as well to speed up the absorption rate. I would suggest giving the rice trick a try again but leave it untouched for a week or two. DO NOT USE A HAIRDRYER, you've already stated that you have but don't again. The force of the air could push moisture deeper and make the issue worse. Take out the SIM, the battery and external memory card if you have one. Vacuum the exposed area for at least 30 minutes, change up the angle of the vacuum every little while to make sure you are reaching all exposed parts. Put the dry cover back on, do not try and turn it on. Now put it in the rice and some say 24-hours works but I would leave it for at least a week. If it won't turn on after a week in the rice and the vacuuming you may need to think about replacing the motherboard which I don't think anyone sells. If you do manage to get ahold of one or any part you want to replace use the guide here to tear it down and fix yourself. https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Samsung_Galaxy_S5

OK im getting a little irritated with this kind of comment that show only the lack of knowledge the S5 normal is IP67 as the active the difference is that the active beside the IP67 has some military test of its own so both phone can be submerged up to 1 meter and up to 30 min there is no difference there OK and yes if i buy a phone thats says it can do that WHY would i do it its like if i buy a water resistant watch or whatever if it says it can be submerged up to 15 meter im gonna swim with it im NOT scuba diving because it will die. SAme thing with the S5 if is water whatever but it specifies that can be submerged up to 1 meter and for 30 im gonna do it following the security measures the one thing i did not calculated was that if the phone have some factory flaws and the water gets in and the indicator goes red im screw now

So, if I purposely crash my car into a building, and I'm laying in my hospital bed, and I say, well if the air bag worked like it was supposed to, then I would not be in this predicament, how would I sound? You'd probably say, well why would you do that anyway? There are some things that you do not do, you'd probably say. That's kind of how you sound with taking the phone swimming, but not that degree.
Well, maybe the phone was faulty. But what service center or tech is going believe you after you've blow dried it, and possibly soaked it in rice or alcohol. If you did any of that, then that throws out the entire argument about the phone being at fault, since the blow dryer, alcohol, and rice are not tested and proven procedures, or "following security measure", for the S5. I'm just saying what you need, but don't want, to hear.
And you're right also, there is a lack of knowledge around here about S5. In my opinion, it takes somewhere around a year before you understand a phone really well. That's why you don't do like you did, because almost no one around here has been in that situation yet, where they had to find a solution. That's why there's no definite answer right now and...Oops, I have to go. I have to get my phone out the sink before the 30 minutes is up. Let us know what you decide to.

The Active and the S5 both have the same IP67 certification for water ingress protection. so NO the Active is not any better under water. And in the case of the OP he just got back lock and was not sure that the back cover was completely close. I have use my S5 on the pool several times to take videos and pictures without issues, you just need to be sure of the usb flap and back case been secured.

You mean the 30min underwater commercial didn't convince you it was water proof? LOL...Gonna be hard to get that replaced. I would put it in a ziplock bag of dry rice for 24hr, couldn't hurt....good luck
