anyone want a phone?

I've really appreciated all the help I've gotten from this site. Unfortunately, I dropped my ATT Tilt into my kitchen sink full of water. That was a couple of weeks ago. Now it doesn't work. It won't turn on, and when I plug it in, it only shows a red light instead of an amber light. I know alot of you are messing around constantly with these phones. I don't know if this phone is worth anything, but if somebody wants a project, you're welcome to it. I have no idea if the phone is even worth the trouble. I also have a USB cradle as well as a wall charger that I'll throw in. Feel free to email me direct if you are interested.

pull the back cover & battery. Lower left side, just to the right of the lower left copper colored contact is a small white square. If it is still white, try this to get
rid of the red LED when you turn it on. take the battery out and rapidly push it against the 4 battery contacts multiple times. Then, put the battery back
in, connect the charger and see if the red LED goes away and the amber charge light comes back on. If it does, try powering it back on and see if it comes back to life.
Might be worth a try.

Lol, you've definitly got a good mood. I think lots of people are intrested in the device. So you should donate him to the driver project people i guess....
But first i would try the things mentioned above here, also try to power on without battery as well, remove the battery for some time etc. etc....
Maybe you can get it back to work...!

tried that.....didn't work.....and the little white square is red......guess i shouldn't have had that last glass of wine....lol

take the thing appart and blowdry it. When I say take it appart I mean way appart. there should be just 4 skrews. you can get the screwdriver at radioshack. One of the screws is covered by a void sticker.
when you take it appart inspect the board to see if there are any burn marks or "bisters" . if that is the case, it might be worth parts or something. I think that the camera is more than 1.3mpx and it might be interchangable with the older models of HTC phones (provided someone loads the drivers)
Belive it or not it's not as easy to kill a phone just by dropping it into water.
By the way, WD40 is a water reppelant originaly designed by or for the military to help deal with the wet electronics issues. it does not cunduct electricity. so if you need to "clean" the greesy **** that was in your sink, you can use that.
The other thing you can do is replace the red sticker with a white one and send it in for repair. I would try blowdrying it first.
I had a phone I dropped into a glass of beer once. within 3 days it worked (after it dried fully) don't try to turn your phone on while it is wet. useless and you can burn something out.

I might be tossing my Tilt to eBay soon. I figure its easier to just get a real TomTom for my GPS and use my iphone which I just updated the firmware last night to the latest 1.1.3 AND jailbroke it. It's just a nice device to use, and I've been using both, so I can say that based on hands-on, NOT opinion.

how much you want for it? I want it if it is reasonable.

just FYI, you can't burn anything if it is wet. water is not conductive for DC. only AC. otherwise your car would be toast everytime it rains

HELP/Assistance needed for a rare tilt issue

I ve done a fair share of research and am getting mixed answers from these threads. I am in a situation where i have to call AT&T and get a new tilt sent to me, but i fear in my situation i will eventually get charged for the new unit. Here's my story...
got my tilt and been flashing it with some of the beautiful roms created... and i am a very happy camper... until one day... i was a bit drunk and i entered my friends backyard for the first time and immediately walked into the swimming pool(please dont ask, it was plain retarded). i fell in and popped back out immediately and took my phone out of my pockets and i believe i took the battery out after about 2 minutes. I dried it up for 2 days... with about 2-3 hours of hair drying... and finally decided to pop the batt. in the phone. WALLLAAAAA!!!! it worked and i was too happy. shortly after that... later that night i left my phone on my desk and the next day i got the RLOD.... the red light... yes... i want to call AT&T and have them send me a new one... but i m very certain they will charge me for the phone after they find out it was wet... or after they find out it was flashed with a diff rom. How accurate is this and is there a way for me to get my TILT back without spending any money that i dont have. please help?!?!

there's a moisture sensor under the battery, i think it turns pink if it has been exposed to water. if it is i guess you're SOL

The moisture detector is where you're "dead in the water" (ha ha)..
Even though with the RLOD you wouldn't have been able to reflash the shipping Rom you'd probably have been okay BUT they do check for water damage.
You're better off just buying a new tilt instead of paying the same price for a refurb (which is what they'll send you).

can someone send me a picture of their tilt with the battery taken out so i can compare what the moisture sticker looks like compared to mine... i m gonna figure out a way to "cheat the system" i guess... i really cant afford to buy another "regular" cell phone let alone a tilt.

ok my sticker definitely has pink dots on it... but its not entirely pink... you think i can slide by changing that sticker to a normal white one... because my phone worked after it had a lil water... haha but after that i got the RLOD. i really regret taking my tilt for a swim... accidentally that is.

Water Damaged Diamond... what next?

Hello all, while drunk at the beach this weekend I accidentally went into the water with my Touch Diamond in my pocket... stupid... I know, did I mention I was drunk? Anyways, the current issue at hand is what to do with my screwed up cell phone.
I took the backing, battery and SIM card out of the phone and let it dry out as much as I could since the weekend. When I turned it on this morning, the "smart mobility" text appears for a few seconds, but the phone shuts off shortly after that. Do batteries usually break from water damage, as well?
If anyone has any advice for me I would greatly appreciate it. Does anyone know of a legit place that can repair this? Is there anything I can do to try and remedy this problem? Or would you recommend I just sell/ditch this one and get a new phone? Thanks a lot.

Have you tried charging the battery? that might explain it only booting for a second, the other explanation is that it's fried the ROM chips and only the bootloader works.

Disassemble your Diamond completely (manual floating around somewhere in this forum), clean all pieces using one of these isopropanol-brush-thingies, reassemble, turn it on - and pray. Any year - a new battery might be a good idea. No promises on anything of that though. The diamond is a very integrated piece of technology and you might have short-circuited something on one of the PCBs really. No guarantee that everything will work as usual even if the device comes up as well.
Warranty seems to be out of the question - I guess virtually any repair center will notice residue of loads of salt water on the first look inside...

Strip it down Salt water is very and I mean very corrosive ! You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by doing this . Waranty repair will be expensive.
Clean with an alchol based cleaner as advised but you must ensure you get all the salt out. To see it boot means that the screen has survived ( Amazed by this ) .
Best of luck , oh and if it does not work are you insured for accidental damage on personal items on your household insurance. This could be the next route

I have the same problem with my Tytn 2. It got wet during the "Oranje" Party in Basel, when the firemen were "cooling" down the fans...
It boots..but as soon as it has booted, you here a lot of "bling..bling..bling.." and it shuts down.. the batterie doesn't charge..
You recommend to open and clean it with alcool? Actually I'm not sure if it was washed by the firemen or by my own alcool .ehhehe..
I have a Diamond now, but if I get it back to work, I would sell it on ebay.

There is a watersensor inside the diamond. They'll notice that the device has been in the water.

Luckily I was at lake Michigan in Chicago (fresh water), for whatever that's worth, so I'm not really worried about salt corroding anything away. I bought it off eBay unlocked, I did buy insurance but, naturally, I'm pretty sure that this water damage won't be covered.
Sounds like taking it apart and cleaning it might be my best bet. Do you guys think that any cell phone repair place would be able to help me out? Anyone know of a good cell phone repair shop (in the U.S.)? Thanks for the help thus far guys, I really appreciate it

Firstly remove the battery and SIM, please do not try to power up or charge again as you might have already damaged it beyond repair.
Isopropanol or IPA is what you need (100% Alcohol), you can get this from your local chemist for about £5 a bottle.
You need to strip your phone down completely and use an anti static PCB brush to clean the whole lot (Buy it from Maplin), submerge it in a plate of IPA (excluding the screen) while cleaning. As for the warranty sticker remove this by first heating with a hair drier, then uing a Stanley knife point to remove it.
Once it’s all been cleaned and dried in air, re-assemble and power up. If it fails to work take it back for a warranty replacement. As the warranty sticker is intact, and all the evidence of water damage will have been removed, they should replace it for you without a problem.

Pretty sure? I would check if I was you before doing anything else with it. If insurance doesnt cover water damage, what does it cover? Phone insurance is so expensive i thought they covered everything like theft and accidental damage, I thought the idea was a warranty wont cover you if you break the phone but insurance will.
I'm thinking it may be an idea to check before you do anything else so they dont say "Well we cover water damage, but now youve taken apart the phone we cant cover you"

My warranty does not cover accidental water damage, that is for sure.
I charged the battery up over the weekend and tried turning it back on, and, to my utter amazement, the phone completely powered on. I got to all of my menus and was able to use all of the programs that I opened, even the WiFi worked.
However, the functionality of the touch screen is quite screwed up. I don't know if its shorting out or what but there are basically "ghost taps" and other unintentional actions happening all the time. For example, if I were to just leave it at the home screen it would eventually scroll to another menu, open the start pull-down menu, automatically open the calendar and start doing random ****, etc.
Does anyone know how to fix the touch screen or have any ideas on how to replace one? I have a faint hope that this thing might not be beyond saving.. thanks a lot people

Maybe try to re-calibrate the touch screen?

Don't give up hope, sometimes these things can take days, even weeks to fully dry and become functional. My mom had a sony ericsson somethingorother that she loved, dropped in the tub, didn't work for like a month or more... She'd check it every week or so to see, and slowly the features started coming back... Little by little, more and more buttons would respond (without activating 2 or 3 at a time). Well, long story short (too late?) works 100% now. I don't think water damage is a reparable occurrence, but DON'T sell your Diamond for parts or anything like that, keep it around and check back periodically. Best of luck.

there is a little white sticker onto the battery.
If it goes RED it shows HTC that the Phone/Battery went into the water.
This allows HTC to avoid repair "sunk" phones

Should also be one on the phone... If not, there's your solution. New battery + deny any water damage = Free replacement.

[Q] Xperia Z totally DEAD!!

I'm new here so please be nice to me plus i apologize if my english is bad and please take your time to read. I REALLY NEED HELP
SO here it is
. i got my xperia z a month ago and updated the firmware version last week. But the problem is not there.
the Big problem is. me and my friends had a vacation and i am very confident to use my phone to use it on water but not totally submerged.... only on the surface of water where we can take some pictures.
I am very sure and 100% sure that I securely close the flaps ALL FLAPS. before taking it to the pool. we manage to use the phone to take pictures and take some video but NO ONE submerged it underwater. we use it like 10 - 15mins only.
After an hour not using it, i checked my phone to see if someone emailed me or sms me. and i found some problems in my phone. i saw the front and back camera including the led flash is moisted. YES moisted INSIDE. and found the screen not hanging, not lagging but glitching so then i turned off my phone because i was too worried it may die when i keep it open. BTW the battery level is somehow 50+% more. then after 4 hours when i saw the moist in both of the camera is gone.. i opened my phone and BOOM the battery level downed to 1% then after less than a minute my phone DIED. i tried to charge it for the first time and after an hour it turned on. and yes turned on directly to the lock screen. i know and as far as i know. when the battery is drained and charged you're not suppose to be on the lock screen in instance. you must be on the charging status where you can see the battery logo charging with the electric sign or the flash sign or whatever.
Then i tried to unlock my screen without a problem and still pretty smooth to use but after an hour or two the battery is still on 1% then i tried to run the camera and it DIED again. yes my Z died again.
We got home. after 4 hours of travel and within the 4 hours i didnt open or charge the phone. after that long hour when i got home. i charged the phone. Tried to charge it in a wall charger and tried it in usb connected to desktop charge but it only shows me a blinking red notification light.
i tried to turn it on but it wont. i tried to hard reset it with power button + volume up but nothing happen
So a while ago i brought my phone to the nearest Sony Service Center. Unluckily the phone is not yet available here in my country (philippines)
they said that the water went through inside and damage the processor, or something like the motherboard or something like the one that makes the phone alive. I ask them if they can fix my phone. they said there is no probability because the phone is not yet available in my country and so as the parts. he said if we try to repair it now it'll cost you like you bought a brand new one. so i was shocked and very sad.
I bought this phone on a Trusted online store but they can't help me. they have a 3days replacement warranty and a 1 year service warranty but as the rules follows. The Warranty is voided if a water proof or water resistance gadget is damaged by water or liquid device. my phone is 1 month old.
I am very depressed because here in the philippines its like gold to buy that phone. I'm a bit depressed about the Sony commercial boosting up my confidence to wet my phone. even if I / we didnt submerged it.
I need help! what do i do? i really love my xperia z and its my first flagship phone.

Take it to the service center and ask them to escalate this to area manager...

they did send it to area manager, but the manager said the same thing "Xperia Z is not yet available in the philippines and so the parts" but i saw some article and forums that the phone will be available by april.. its this month

Did you tried to dry the phone with hair dryer?And keep the phone on charger for hours.

for the past 24 hours upto now. i dried my phone through the heat of sunlight and the use of fan. I'm charging the phone right now but its notification light is different from what i expect. instead of a consistent red light - turned to green when almost full or fully charged... for about 6 hours now its only a blinking red notification light with 3-5 seconds interval.

I think you cannot change it on warranty, take a look at this link (it is from Sony Mobile) where it says ``Do not use your device in the following conditions:`` : http://userguide.sonymobile.com/ref...ter-resistance---For-extended-Guide-only.html
P.S. That IPX7 think means : Temporary Immersion, Protected against the effects of temporary immersion in water. So it is not that fun to play in the swimming pool

So they declined to repair by warranty ?

yes i've seen this link before. but the fact that i / we didnt submerge it underwater. the phone itself got wet from splashes of water from the swimming pool which is not too hot or too cold. its in average temperature. after an hour or less. i saw some moisture on the front and rear camera including the led flash light.
so does this mean i have no other choice but to buy a new one? ( but i can't, the phone's price is like gold here in Philippines )
is there no / any other solution?

the 3 days replacement warranty is over. the fact that i have this phone for a month now
1 year service warranty is voided as the rule said :
"*Service warranty only includes :
Free of charge on installation of parts needed to replace, price of parts is charge.(Wet damage"even if it waterproof", Drop damage is warranty void)"

You got warranty form sony. (1Year)
OPEN DAMN FLAPS and check there is white indicators. If it's still white it was NO WATER DAMAGE !!!
So take this garbadge to sony and say it's suddenly shut down.
This is it. Do not tell is water damage or something liker this. You woke up and saw your phone is died.

So True!!! have you checked the white indicators? I they are all white and they should replace your phone, if they are red-ish then you gotta argue with them and tell them to examine the phone because you didn't do anything wrong.

sorry for my late response.. i forgot to mention that the white indicator has turned red...
- the micro SD and the micro USB flap are slightly red
- the headphones flap is totally red.
anyway. i bought this ONLINE, not from a sony store, The Store said it has a 3days replacement warranty and a 1 year service warranty.... is the one year service warranty is the Sony Warranty? or is different?

You should check the law about replacement, in Slovenia we said that "Law on Consumer Protection". We have unofficial 8 days replacement, btu by the law, we are protected for 2 months from the day we bought an article.

when i bought the phone it's really in its perfect condition so service warranty will remain but the fact that they said :
*Service warranty only includes :

it means i have to spend another bucks to repair it but as of now they said that the parts of this model is not yet available in my country.

regardless of the country, the COMPANY of SONY gives a 1 year warranty.
if you are unsure about philipines, send it to someone in a different country like japan or usa and they should send it in for warranty.
it isn't even available in the phils like you said, so why bother.
if the indicators are red, water MUST HAVE gotten to the inside, and this is very bad. maybe the flaps were not really secured tightly but only loosely. nobody knows how water got through 3 different flaps and sony may check the flaps.
if they are closed and no water comes through, then it's pretty obvious, that they were not closed "correctly" / pushed in very hard all the way down.
even if it's that much worth like a ball of gold in the phils, it "may be" your fault that it got damaged.
i don't know how that happened, but the indicators are there for a good reason.
if you had it with you in the pool, maybe water could have gotten from ONE loose flap to the others. but if you only had it get some drops of water on the front and back, that possibility should not be there.
so ask yourself once again how water could have gotten to all the indicators or did you open them with wet fingers to connect cables ?

I am very sure that the flaps (ALL FLAPS) of my XZ are secured tightly. I'm pretty sure too that before i open the flaps after several hour i dried it using a towel and pretty sure that my hands and fingers are dry before i charge it.
can you provide a link where i can message them and investigate my phone? i'm really missing my XZ right now

I'm from Philippines too and i have the same problem, but there are some differences. like , i let my friend use my phone to take picture under the pool, so he submerged my phone but not deep, like just 4 inches. then he returned it to me. and i set the timer then gave it to him again and he took picture, by the third time.. i was checking my phone the camera didnt work i exit, then touch the camera icon and it says "camera error", so 1st. i submerged my phone and you didnt
2nd i could still use it, the camera is the only problem. i listened to 3-4 songs then, i stopped and played minion rush. for like 3 runs, after 2hrs, i let my friend play my phone (take note my front and back camera also moistened) then it suddenly just turned off. not shutdown. just off, turned black..
3rd the moist on my main camera is still there
then i perform an inspection. i open each flaps, and there are no traces of water except in the flap cover of my memory card, i was shocked because i also made sure that the flaps are all closed before using it in the pool. i dont know how the water managed to enter the closed flap then i took my memory card out its not that wet but you can see very little water. then i brought immediately to nearest sony (just an FYI. i bought my phone in Sony store in SM Bacoor) then they said they have this white water indicator, if it turned red or pink means a water really entered the device. my indicators (for each flap) is all white (even the flap cover of my memory card) so they cant say what was really the problem, and they said. the moistening of the camera is natural.. then they charged my phone thinking that the battery was just drained but i said no, the battery was 65 when it happened, but after a 1-2 minutes of charge. my phone OPENED !! then i told them i just updated my software. you know the 4.3 jelly bean and they said the update might have something to do with what happened to my phone. so the water isnt only the responsible for my problem
and also my phone glitches while on lockscreen.. after it opened :'( im bringing my phone again in PASIG . SONY at megamall recommended me to take my phone to pasig branch. (i thought in MOA) so if you live nearby these places. you should bring it to PASIG branch. coz they said "only" pasig branch do the fixing thing

Screen replacement after water damage?

So... teardown videos on YouTube fooled me and I thought that this phone is water-resistant. I washed it under tap water (multiple times, actually). After the last time, the screen stopped working, but the phone appears to be OK — even the touch clearly works. I've already disassembled the phone and cleaned the connectors with 95% alcohol, but the screen still doesn't work. Is buying a replacement screen and hoping for a cheap repair the smartest thing to do? After all, the motherboard can also be borked.

I've replaced the screen after dropping the phone. Was only a small chip in the bottom corner, didn't look much at all, but the screen was completely dead. I was in a similar dilemma of wanting to be sure it was only the screen before spending about $100 on a screen. I booted into fastboot, then connected to a PC, then done the fastboot devices command, which returned a valid ID, so I knew the phone wasn't completely dead. Also connecting to the PC and booting the phone, the PC recognised the phone was connected, though without being able to unlock the phone I couldn't check anything else. That was enough for me to go ahead and order the screen. Now everything works fine.

Thanks for sharing your experience! In my case, the phone clearly isn't dead, but I wonder whether some circuitry on the motherboard that's responsible for making the display work might be fried. Well... if that's the case, I can always sell the replacement screen after testing, but I'm not sure that someone will buy it for a good price.
Also... where did you get your screen from? On AliExpress, they are as cheap as $50, but most of the cheap ones are clearly some fake crap — TFT/IPS LCD, smaller than the original, fingerprint scanner not working... I guess I need to buy something more expensive. Have you noticed any difference between the original screen and your replacement?

It was 4 months ago I got mine from AliExpress, at that time there wasn't any of these cheaper ones for sale. Looking at these cheaper ones they are TFT, though it's not always obvious in the description.
One seller is selling both TFT and OLED and are clearly labelled in the options. So from this assume that all cheaper ones are TFT.
It is a bit of a minefield. I doubt that any of the sellers have the actual original genuine screens. It took me a couple of days to go through all the listings and determine which one would most likely be good quality.
I eventually went for this one, which was slightly more expensive than most. Now though it appears to have gone up about $15 from when I bought it.

At that time it had the best reviews, which appeared genuine. There were others with a higher review count, which appeared to be just as well reviewed, but reading the reviews you realise they are fake. Many reviews, supposedly from the USA, written in very poor pigeon English.
Also saw some stores with high review count, but then realised that most reviews are for completely different products (a common trick by some Ali sellers, completely change an existing listing so a new product looks like it's got high reviews)
The screen is good quality. It took about 3 weeks to arrive, but it was about 2 weeks after I damaged it before I ordered. So it was around 5 weeks after I last used the phone before installing it. After that time it's hard to judge if it is as good as the original. To look at and use the phone you wouldn't think it was a non original replacement, to me it seems to be as good as the original, without doing a side by side comparison. As far as an oleophobic coating, I couldn't say, it's had a screen protector since installing.

Umm. What? Even with IP rated phones you don't wash it with water. IP rating generally means that its good for accidental drops into water or for use in light rain. Why on earth would you wash it? Yes, I know jerryrig says there's some water ingress protection but it doesn't mean you should wash it with water. It just means you're good for use in light rain at best.

Well, I guess that even if it's a bit worse, replacing the screen is better (in my case) than dealing with an older/cheaper phone or throwing a nice sum of money on a phone in similar price range. I will report my experience after replacing the screen, maybe it will help someone. I'm definitely not going to find another guy with 9T (Pro) because of the coronavirus, but comparison with another high-quality AMOLED phone is another way to check the quality.

So... I wanted to order the screen, but when I checked whether the phone still works... it appeared dead. It charges, is visible in USB devices (but no fastboot etc.), the notification LED blinks, but that's all. It worked perfectly some time after the water damage occured, so I guess that the damage progressed. Yes, I didn't clean the phone thoroughly after disassembling it - I thought that the water probably evaporated anyway after using a heat gun, so, as I mentioned earlier, I cleaned only (easily accessible) connectors. Maybe it is something stupid (power button?), but it seems too good to be true. If I don't post another update, just assume that my phone died.

My k20 pro Disable screen problem
Hi xda developers
After wetting the phone with a hand sanitizer and using the same wetness of the screen, I played the online game and put it in automatic game mode and rested for a while...
After waking up, I noticed that the phone was turned off, which was turned on by holding down the power button, but the screen is off...
Currently, only vibrators and notification lights work for the phone, and the phone is organized by a computer.
Also, the phone is charged and its sound can be heard while connecting it to the charger, and its sound can be heard in the same way to lock the screen.
Does anyone have an idea?

my phone just take s swim in the river yesterday, now its has no display but still on and even the touchscreen is working (i know is working cuz its register sound when i try to touch it everywhere). it have been dead first but then turn back on with everything work normal. but after about half hour, the screen suddnly dead.
after tear it my self i found where the water coming in, its from the 3.5mm jack. other holes have rubber protection but the jack has nothing. they even put water dammage indicator below the 3.5mm module....
i have try few method like clean the board with isoprofil alcohol but no avail. now im waiting my screeen replacement and will try to fixit my self.

Hello! Had exactly the same issue. Did it work to replace the screen?
My phone got into the sea (well the sea went into it), nothing happened for a while, and then it suddenly went black. Is working (like i can still use it as alarm lol) but the screen is not. Same as BlueOner, i'm afraid is not the screen itself but something in the mother board, so I would love to know if any of you were able to use it after replacing the screen or i will end up with the same issue.

It's toast. Don't even bother. The sea salt is hygroscopic, conductive (with moisture), corrosive and -everywhere- now.
It not a question of if it will fail only when.
Tap water is similar but not near as aggressive. The smallest amount of salt (sweat) can change that if it gets inside too. Even so if the device >didn't have it's battery pulled immediately<, then completely turn apart and cleaned with anhydrous isopropyl alcohol it won't fare much better in the long term most likely.
Any water internally can cause massive damage quickly. Or the signs of damage can take months to fully manifest themselves especially if the battery wasn't quickly pulled.
Salt water is fatal because it's residue doesn't easily rinse off as well as what was stated above.
This is why manufacturer warranties refuse to deal with water damage.
It's the gift that keeps giving...
Occasionally you can get lucky if you act fast
My Buds case fell into my coffee cup and immediately crash dived to the bottom like the sub in Das Boot. Cream and sugar too.
I pulled it apart and rinsed it will RO water then with anhydrous isopropyl alcohol in less then 3 minutes. Got as much as the isopropyl out as possible without compressed air and allowed it to dry in a warm sunny spot. Couldn't disconnect the Li battery as it was soldered or spot welded in. After about 2 days of drying it worked and other a year and a half later still is working.
I am still surprised...
