What programs are people using to convert your videos? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi,
I am having a play around with Core Player 1.2.1 and am so far finding it great! I just wondered what people are currently using to convert their video files to the 320x240 native screen size.
So far I have tried:
A large 640xsomething Xvid file - picture is awesome but on some high action scenes its dropping a few frames
The same file converted with SPB Mobile DVD (Divx 25fps 500kbps) - Smooth throughout but lost a lot of quality
Whats the best app for converting to the smaller video size but keeping the quality?
Cheers,
Michael

Hi dude
i generally use "cucusoft ultimate-dvd-video-converter-suite", using the 3gpp format with good video/sound quality and with about the half size than a normal divx (.avi) video!!i'm very satisfied with it!!
However there are many others good too, try to search on google!!
...and above all, it depend on which encoder (and settings) you use!!!
Ciao

You should look for something called Super C. It's a free encoder and I really like it a lot and seems like its pretty powerful too. Give it a try.

What I use for video
I basically use Pocket DVD Studio to convert video files from DVD or video files from itunes. It basically encodes the video as WMV with 320x240 resolution. It works very well for me. No complaints.

Spb Mobile DVD. Not free but works great!

2 free ones, generally I use the first one:
PocketDivxEncoder
VirtualDub

I second that. The best part about it is it can any video provided your pc has the codecs. If your WMP can open it, it too can encode it as it uses the internal codecs of the computer rather than using a given set of codecs.
highly recommended

Best format of video to play on MDA Vario III

getting mine this wek and wanna start watching some vid on there - ie from a data card...
in light of all the apple vid formats.. presumably unplayable on a ppc.... what are the best formats to play in?
Is it to use TCPMP with relative codecs for divx/avi etc - (ie bloody big media files) or is there a funky new small screen vid format i missed alond the way of ignoring apple's vid offerings..

I've had great luck with TCPMP. I followed MrVanx's guide to encoding using AutoGK. Great little app there. It makes a 2 hour high-quality movie using only 256MB! I use the XVid codec with no problems.

What OS are you encoding video files on. There are a few Mac OS specific toosl I use for video encoding. I haven't experimented with the best format for TyTN ii but am preparing to do so.
wat mac programs are u using? i use handbrake and its not the most stable of aplications
well in my opinion, for ultra smooth playback and smaller file sizes + quality
Hands down its .m4v runner up 3gp
Tested(converted from avi-349mb)
.m4v(qvga mono)(47mb)
.3gp(qvga mono)(71mb)
-wmv (to choppy)(sized down qvga, 90mb)
-h.264(seeking was horrible)(sized down qvga, 83mb)
-mp4(not as smooth)(sized down qvga, 85mb)
-avi(again not as smooth)(sized down qvga, 90mb)
This was using Magic Video Convertor.

If you want to copy DVD's, you might want to try MacTheRipper + VisualHub. Handbrake has been pretty darn stable for me - aside from choking on some disk security.
m4v - will that run on tcpmp and how do I convert avi's and wmvs and mpegs to it?
Cheers!

Creating Movies to watch on Kaiser/Tilt

Currently I am using CloneDVD Mobile to create movies in DivX format (making them around 800~900kbs). I am also using TCPMP to view my movies that are on my MicrosdHC 6GB card. They play pretty good but I do get some video jumping from time to time...
Has anyone used other formats, is something else other than DivX better? Perhaps a iPod format (but is there a Quick Time for WM6)?
What about WMV and the Kaiser, I am thinking it is not better than DivX, anyone tried DVD's converted into WMV?
are you making them 320x240? when I scale down a regular divx movie that starts out around 700 megs and turn the resolution down to 320x240, they work perfectly for me.

Yes I am making them fit the Kaiser screen and it's pretty good viewing (matter of fact my kid is watching a movie now on my phone, CURIOUS_GEORGE).
It's just sometimes I get a little pause (~ 1 second).
hrmmm. which player are you using?
TCPMP Player RC2 I believe. There a better Divx Player?

The commercial CorePlayer, but it's only marginally better (as of now, at least), when it comes to plain DivX. Not so with more advanced formats like H.264, where CorePlayer is MUCH better.

What is/uses H.264?
i use pocket divx encoder to encode my movies...they look great
Just bought coreplayer, it does play my Divx files better.
I use DVDshrink and FAIRUSE. It compresses my movies down to around 300-350kbps avi file. They look and sound great.
i used Encode360 for my zune, appears to work well with my kaiser
I use pocket divx encoder (PDXE) and CloneDVD mobile. I've made hundreds of movies for my PDA's and have found that 320x240 with total bitrates under 500k play and look excellent, even on my 4" VGA iPaq4700 and Archos boxes. The difference between 475-500 vs 700 or more is minor and you just have bigger files and sometimes jerky playback with the higher bitrate settings.
I have TCPMP and Core players and they both perform the same with these, TCPMP has more plug-ins for streaming vid like youtube I believe.
Just my experience.

[Encoding Movies] best program, settings?

Hiya,
Since all my old music video's are in 320x240 format I'd like to re-encode my ORIGINAL music video files into 640x480 format.
Until now I've been using Nero Recode which gave me ease of use and a pretty nice result.
What program(s) are you using to encode your material and what settings?
I know the Diamond can pretty much play a divx/xvid without re-encoding, but I'd like a smaller filesize so I can place more files on it.
pocketdivx encoder is free, simple to use and produces good results
I use SPB Mobile
Thx for the suggestions.
I've been searching/reading a bit and I'm not an encoding expert, but from what I've read the best possible format would be H.264/AVC?
It would be awesome to get such an awesome movie quality that 'certain other brand phone users' would turn green in envy
My search continues!
Check THIS out for alot of info on the H264 format
I've tested a bit around with encoding Movie files.
Under Windows i become good results with Super from eRightSoft
But i use the most time Linux Debian. There is "AviDemux" you're friend
I'd converted some of my Musicclips in MP4 with AviDemux. In advance:
"MPEG-4 ASP Xvid" at "800KBit VBR"
"AAC (FAAC)" Audio at "128KBit"
Super from eRightSoft in advance:
"H.264 AVC" at "1000KBit CBR"
"AAC (LC)" at "128KBit" Audio
The results seems very pretty so far. But the video seems to stuck if the Bitrate is more than 1100KBit. All tested with Mobile Windows Media Player, because i dont have Coreplayer at the moment.
The old TCMP 0.xx gives an horrorble output. Too many framedrops etc.
Which formats are natively supported from the Qualcomm Chipset, knows that anyone ?

DVD to HTC Diamond Touch

Hi all,
Just would like to know if anyone has had the time and the patience to figure out which program to use to rip a Dvd to what ever format is required to watch on the Diamond.
Anyone know what format the files should be???
I have tried CloneDVD Mobile & ImToo Dvd Ripper. However every time I've tried after transfer It can't be read.
I've tried - Mp4 - MPEG-4 multiple types, to Xvid even Iphone & Blackberry MPEG-4 formats.
I had an AVI music video file that I tried sync'ing through WMP just to test it and it worked however quality was absolutely shocking. a 60 mg H Def good looking video on a 17" WSGA screen get transfered and come out looking like a crappy pixelated washed out 16 colour type thing on a 2.8" vga screen.
Anyway
If anybody has sus'd this issue out and has some answers. It would be appreciated
Cheers all and everybody that will or has ever given any help to anyone on this site or not.
"PAY IT FORWARD MF's"
A godd all round freeware program is Super. The User Interface isn't great but you can convert to pretty much any format and also change the fps, audio quality, pic size etc. The link is below
http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html
You have to go through 2 pages of crap and on the 3rd page is the download link. Tried to put up link for final page, but it just re-directs you!!
Hope this helps
http://www.pocketdivxencoder.net/
I use this to convert avis, choose a suitable resolution then lower the audio and video quality settings for smoother playback
Thanks for the quick response Nindy & Timbermill.
I will check them out and holla out the findings.
Timbermill, I maybe wrong but as far as I was aware DivX encoded files cannot be played on the Diamond. Only MPEG4 encoded files
However, can ask you guys what format and settings are you transfering your files to for the diamond?
Cheers again
Here's another nice (and free) tool:
http://mobidvd.xulsoft.org/
I use TCPMP to view my video files, it's great for divx

films for diamond(codec,bitrate...)

so i woould like to convert hd films(mkv container) into dovx or mp4 to watch on my diamond(of course i will change resolution to 640x480), i am not sure what program do i need to do this, also i am not sure what bitrate to use(600 enough??) and what format is better divx or mp4??
also i have some divx films is it better to change them into mp4(again what bitrate and aspect ratio??)?
thx
Movie converters....
Have a look here... there are loads of solutions.
what about codecs and bitrate and aspect ratio???
now i am using xilisoft video converter
I just dump the complete 600MB-700MB. DVD rip into the phone and play it as is with Core Player. No conversions or resizes.
Very good quality. Very good.
Greets.
so you just rip them into divx and copy them into diamond and than wathc?? what about subtitles?!?

Dont use subtitles so I dont know.
Just rip the DVD and dump the ripped file into Internal as is.
I use Coreplayer to play and it works awesomely.
For converting DVD's Spb Mobile DVD is a really functional converter. I don't know if it still has that audio bug in Vista, but it works great on XP.
For other video files use Coreplayer (1.3 is the latest version), consider it as the VCL player for the PC (if I may compare).
i have coreplayer 1.2.5 not sure how much better 1.3
i use vista and i have some dvd-r at home but when i rip them ant than put them on diamond i have black flags at the botom and up(probably aspect ratio problem?)
1.3 doesn't differ much from 1.25. And you might wanna change the zoom to "stretch to screen". Pixel aspect ratio is best on "auto". Be sure to put the video output to "qtv display" and enable the "TytnII driver mode". I got every movie going flawlessly on my MDA IV. (Maybe some frame drops on the 1st 30 seconds but rewind and enjoy the video...)
it is enabled and i also use stetch to screen but there is stil black flags at the botom and up?!?!
and i cannot get why i cannot convert hd films into sd(640x480) films?!?

I'm using SmartMovie, which is the only player for WM with subtitle support as far as I know. It comes with its converter on the PC side. See Lonely Cat Games web site for details.
