wtf, i just saw a bunch of ur guys' today screenshots and u all have 50-60mb free ram!! i am jealous, my mogul gets maybe 20mb free at its BEST, most of the time its a low 10mb wtf
Does Kaiser run on Sprint network? NO
As mentioned earlier, Sprint uses a different cellular technology than other providers, so phones are not compatible.
If you're in love with Sprint & Kaiser so much, you could always use WMWiFiRouter on your Mogul to allow your Kaiser to run on the Sprint network
If you wants the free RAM 50MB and up.. (I have 98MB free) Just flash a new ROM into your phone with BIG storage. THey are called BIG STORAGE ROMS or LITE ROMS. Hope this helps

You can find out more about what Titan ROMs are available in the Titan Upgrading Forum.
It seems that 25MB free (after Kernel, OS & mail, phone & other apps running at startup) seems to be the norm.
As mentioned earlier, you have to be willing to part with Sprint service to use a Kaiser, so either take the plunge, or start reading up on Titan upgrading

I dont think I'll ever leave Sprint...u cant beat paying about $20 a month for 2100 minutes, free incoming minutes, and unlimited everything else
u know i use to have about 21mb free with my last rom. but ever since i started cooking more flavorful roms with OEM folders my wm now only has 15mb free on a fresh boot...that quickly degrades if i try to do anything.
god i wish there was at least a ppc app that used some storage memory to create virtual ram...has anyone ever taken apart a mogul and another htc phone with 128mb ram and transplanted the memory chip to the mogul? i wonder if that woul work if someone had a broken or truly bricked phone to donate
u wont leave sprint, BUT sprint will leave you once they shut their service down.. you get what you pay for with sprint.. 20$ a month for that type of plan is what causes companies to fold.. they cant take on that kind of loss. so enjoy your plan for the next year because once 2010 rolls around chances are sprint wont be around unless verizon scoops them up.
yeah, there was a article about how if Sprint continue to lose money at the rate they did last year they will be sold or closed by the end of this year. I will look for it.
i already put my bid in on sprint.. $5.00 starting.

two months from now, when the shinny'ness wares off, you'll miss your pocket pc/smartphone
to hiimclif:
My brother bought an iphone today and was previously using a cingular 8125 and the iphone is so far above the technology of anything i have ever used. Don't get me wrong im sure its not a good comparison of the two phones. But within just the 10 minutes i was able to play with it i truely found it to be far supperior to any current ppc/smartphone. The design and layout is so much more fluent then windows its rediculous. im sure your much more knowledgable about everything, but as a normal user and not a hardcore junkie about everything i would never see myself going back to my cingular 8125. And im not biased towards anything i havent owned an apple product in my life but i can truely say this is an amazing piece of technology that blows The HTCtouch and what i believe just about everything else out of the water
lol Thats cuz you had a 8125.. Get a Hermes and tell me how much you would never go back to PPC. .
I don't have any plans to drop my Athena.
Iphone is a smartphone and that's it.
It's finn, and very fast,
Now I need to unlock, anybody?

Hey, can you tell me about the hermes. you are talking about the 8525 right?
Is the processor 400mhz a big difference to the 8125, 200mhz.
Is it also USB 2.0 transfer. I really hate the 8125's slow usb 1.0 transfer. Have to take my card out of the phone and use a seperate reader to transfer my moviez and songs.
btw, any sim unlocker avail for this iphone ?
iPhone doesn't have a SIM card.

Does a hell of a lot more stuff than my old dialphone does. At what point does a phone become smart? Email? Contacts? Address book you can edit? Internet access? VPN and webapps? Desktop-derived operating system?
SDK doesn't make the device a smartphone. You couldn't run anything on the UK-Market Three A925, unless Three published it - sure, you could get a Symbian SDK from somewhere for UIQ, but Three didn't make it "legal" or "easy" to get UIQ apps onto the device.
I think most people will agree the existence of an SDK doesn't not define a define as a smartphone.
I read somewhere the lack of 3G is actually due to the Qualcomm chip injunction. Wonder if there's a grain of truth in that...
Phone becomes smart when you can develop & install native third-party applications for it, that blends unlimited functionality of personal computer into phone platform.
Otherwise its just an ordinary phone - every phone have an OS and set of default applications inside, some very rich, hovewer these are not smartphones.
Btw, there is no probs in getting devkits for UIQ. Currently the main hassle is mandatory signing, but its still not closed platform. IPhone is.

I think what he meant was the iPhone doesn't have a REMOVABLE SIM card. There isn't a way to access it (although I'm sure you could if you pulled the phone apart) because the battery also ISN'T removeable along with there being no back cover. This phone is just one big 'thing'.

Some real Facts
Ok Guys, some real facts regarding my Iphone:
-of course there is a SIM Card. (cames with a blank sim card to activate via Itunes)
-Yes it's a smartphone, Why? Because you can install and unistall widgets applications (just like Mac OS widgets)
-Do not record VIDEOS (So youtube it's only to vivew some videos) maybe next firmware update will enable the camera to record
At this moment I'm trying to hack the device and Itunes to unlock my device, Do you guy know any other forum ? maybe like iphone-developers... I will post my review at

A lot of ordinary phones allow to install java applets, hovewer it does not make them smartphones.
As with iPhone widgets these are not true native applications, as they run in "sandboxed" environment and do not have the full access to phone hardware and OS features.
Apple declared already that they *maybe* will consider "opening" the iPhone and making it a true smartphone, but they said that "we will need to sort out security issues first".

Shozu-esque
So I used to use Shozu back in the day but the moment they kicked all my contacts out was the day I swore I'd never go back.
With that being said, this reminds me an awful lot of Shozu but looks sooooo much better and I'm really hoping this sticks. This is even a service I'd potentially pay for. (I really hope they don't start charging butttt I'd consider it if they did lol) As long as they leave my contacts and stuff alone and don't do the stupid mess that Shozu did then this may be one of the best finds in quite a while in the apps category. I'm getting tired of using PIM Backup or Sprite to backup my stuff for various reasons but space on my SD card is one of the biggest. Granted, I'm working w/ a 2gig card but I've got 50k cabs, pics, vids, songs, etc and I really dont like bogging down my card w/ backup files because I never know when I may have to hard reset my phone or flash a new ROM and I have to wait...and wait....and wait....and wait for PIM or Sprite to back me up then have to go through that whole mess again on reload. I can manage all of my stuff straight from the Dashwire site and I realllllly like that. Big thumbs up for this! =D
Thanks for the info. I'm thrilllllled! Here's to hoping it pans out to be as good or better than it seems!

No.. I absolutely detest the iPhone.
I already have my diamond, but tonight (as I put loads of music on my device) ive been thinking about it more and more... why didnt HTC put at least 8GB in it or add a Micro SD slot.
Other than that, I absolutely adore my diamond. Its a fantastic device and a great upgrade to my HTC Touch.
The whole 'mine is bigger than yours' thing doesn't bother me.
It's a phone, not an entertainment system for me.
I always carry a usb drive and am rarely far from a real pc.
When I ordered it I hadn't noticed the lack of card slot and I've only ever had a 2gig card in my previous smartphones. Maybe I just don't understand the concern to have so much on a media player but then again I did used to buy C120 tapes for my walkman

I cant remember the exact figure but it would add several mm to the device to put in a MicroSD slot so that's the main reason they didnt. There may also be power savings and speed improvements but i beleive the size issue was the most important.

I'm syncing my diamond to my iMac(itunes) using missing sync, so I'm not really sure whether this is possible using media player on windows, haven't been using windows for years so I have no idea as to it's playlist capabilities...
I've got two playlists that I'm syncing (everytime my diamond connects, basically every night) the first one I add music to as I please (songs I have to actually add to the playlist)... The second however consists of songs played less than three times... I have a pretty large library and my diamond pretty much always have music on it that I'm not tired of, hence I find the 4Gb quite sufficient. This is also available for videos, or video podcasts (if you use your diamond as a video player)
They'll comeout with one with more memory, until then, go to www.modmyifone.com:)

I absolutely agree. Everyone knows that the Diamond has 4Gb and is not expandable. Pretty pathetic really if they buy it and then realise they want more space.
I have stored 100+ pics, 15 hours of music and installed all programs in the internal storage - and I still have 2,4 GB free.

Not really. Its like anything else, you buy it thinking it'll be fine - its only when the space runs out that you realise you want more.
And no - dont go suggesting the iphone as an alternative, to me its a compromise. I want a kick ass Windows Mobile device. The diamond is damn near perfect apart from the storage issue. Curious HTC went this route as
1) Flash memory is very cheap. Hardly any cost difference between 4GB and 8GB
2)A Micro SD slot will not impact size that much
Do any of you think there will be any third party solutions (adaptors of some sort?)

The forum is for trying to solve a problem and sharing information.
Moaning - perhaps understandable to a certain limit.
Now, you know there is nothing you (or anyone else can do) about the 4 GB internal sotrage that you got with your phone.
If there is a new version of the diamond, with more memory or an external card slot.. someone will definitely share that info.
Unless that's what you were doing, I don't think that moaning is going to get you anywhere or achieve anything.
An exercise in futility.
If you just want to share your opinion, there are plenty of places where you can do so.
Doing it on a forum where people are looking for solutions, not exactly the best approach.
Just my view

I wont be dictated to about what I can or cannot talk about.
I mean a thread dedicated to wallpaper on the diamond (Which is near 5 pages long) is more redundant than this one, yet I hear no complaints about that.
Today I have made what I think is an important decision.
I am an android user, and I like a lot of applications, free and non-free. I was using an application to change automatically my wallpaper (euforia free), with its limitations in the free version, and after testing it (it works ok for me) I checked that the paid version only costs 75 euro cents (1 dollar). I thought that maybe I could find it "using other way" but... hey, guys, 1 dollar! You can find that incredible amount of money just looking under your sofa. So I bought it. And after that, I bought the startup auditor, that costs another dollar. And after that, I decided that if I use an application, it runs with no problem and it's cheap... why not? It's not a problem to pay 1 dollar for a good application, and it's good for the developement.
I know it's a little silly to create a thread just to say that, but I only wanted to share my thoughts .
I always pay for Apps that i'm keeping.
It's nice to give back to the devs
(Just need pay versions for Angry Birds now)
I agree. I think it's important to purchase apps to help the poor souls who make them for us.
Besides, usually it's a dollar. For most who have smartphones in the first place, I can't imagine a dollar would be missed.
I think it would be great if every application had a free version, even if it's very limited, because I like to test any application a lot before keeping it, and most of them need more than 15 minutes to see if work properly or drain your battery.
Hello,
I wiil start with the RAM. I've searched the forums for an answer to the lack of ram and people are saying the current kernel isn't supporting 512 ram which is probably bull**** because I saw a Desire HD of a friend, and it uses all the RAM. Other people say that the other Ram goes to graphic use, which is wierd, because again, the Desire HD has 512 RAM.
So my question is did someone knows the real answer? Because I'm pretty disappointed that I have 150 free RAM after I'm killing all the tasks, and some games are laggy from time to time (Angry Birds (espacially Rio), Fruit Ninja). Maybe we can even sue Samsung for publishing false specs XD
My second question is about the GPS, I'm using Phoenix ultimate rom, did anyone tried it with this fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957164 and saw better results? The GPS in this rom is better then other roms but i'm still find it unusable.
My thirs nd last question is that there's a problem I've saw in all the roms I've been using. When I call someone the volume is high for something like 5-10 sec and then become lower, and the volume in the call itself is pretty low and I can't talk in crowdy places. I know there's a method to increase the volume but I'm not sure how and which volume is recommended. If someone can explain me it will be great!
Thanks in advance, Elad!
For the first question.
first of all you are using 150 ram... rather than having that much left. and I dont think there is any rom right now for the captivate that use all the ram..
2. my phone also never gets good gps. just send it back to at&t and keep getting a new one until you have good gps.
3. i really dont know... sorry..
So you say this this it's the rom that doesn't support? It's really hard for me to believe this because there's a lot of devices that use 2.1 and 2.2 and uses all of the 512 mb.. :/
And for the second answer I'm not living in USA I bought it on ebay because its basebands support my mobile operator basebands lol
For your 3rd question, have you tried different modems?
first of all, you need to read up on how RAM is used in linux and android. free ram is WASTED ram. there are 100 threads on here about that topic alone. please search

I know what is RAM, but sometimes there are apps that uses a lot of ram like angry birds rio that when in stand-by mode uses almost 100mb ram. But it doesn't matter, if the phone doesn't really have 512mb they shouldn't write in the specs that it does.

there IS 512mb RAM, but its not all usable by the USER APPLICATIONS. some of it is used by the SYSTEM to run...
there is literally a massive thread open on this already somewhere. i will find it later
here is some reading for you to do in the meantime:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008237&highlight=ram
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792512&highlight=512mb
just as others have stated the phone DOES have 512mb of RAM. Just like with your computer you may have 2 gigs of RAM installed but that does not mean that you are going to be able to use all of it. More then likely several hundred mbs of that is going to go to system processes like svchost and explorer.exe. That leaves only part of that available for user applications.
As others have stated ram that is free is doing the phone no good. accesses to ram is hundreds of times faster then accesses to main memory so if a program has to load block into RAM it is going to get slowed down. Its better to just let the phone do its own thing and keep applications that are frequently used in RAM so they dont have to get loaded when needed
I have 2 captivates, the only GPS Fix I found that works, is an article that describes all the settings, and after I understood what each setting was I adjusted them to what makes sense, and it works great now. Accuracy ranges 16 to 32 ft. But none of the video's or anything other article worked.
Here is the title of the article. "Why Samsung Galaxy S i9000 GPS is inaccurate and how to fix it." It is located here on XDA-developers.
And BTW I am using the AT&T release of Froyo. Don't have a need to switch to another ROM, everything works.
Brian
Thank you, the ram questions was answered
Does anybody knows something about the other two questions?
In regards to GPS, I flashed Serendipity and its at least mostly usable now. Before, I couldn't get a lock unless I was standing still, then id lose it when I moved.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
My previous rom was Serendipity, and I flashed to phoenix few days after because of mysterious problems (which now I know had no connection to the rom). Anyway, I love Phoenix, does anyone have phoenix and can use the GPS?
In response to the GPS questions:
The GPS is designed to use the aluminum backplate as an antenna. If you have a thick case on it will work terribly. Thin silicon cases work well enough. Another thing to look at is the app you are using for navigation. Try and find telenav for the i9000 and it will work for the captivate. Google navigation will work terribly. If you have a navigation app that uses generated maps(telenav) or stored maps your GPS will be decent enough to use and will help quite a bit. Read plumbobs guide for more information in the captivate development section.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
the captivate has 512 mb ram total
much of that is hardwired for video. the desire hd if it is the same as the inspire has 768mb total so 512 is available for the system to use.
Has anyone tried using navigation with google maps already pre-loaded? If so how is it? Did it improve navigation performance? Google navigation is absolutely horrible for me. Constantly losing signal while driving rendering it useless.
