Hello
can somebody help me understanding the difference betwenn Voice command and speed dial and if I can use both on the same PDA ?
So far I understand that
- Speed Dial dials numbers and start programs by using voice tags
- you need to train each name to be recognized
- there is no true voice recognition
- Voice command dials numbers and starts programs by voice recognition
- in addition VC reads calendar entries and SMS/E-Mail
- there is no training mode to increase accurancy
So which program would provide better results for recognize and dial numbers by voice ?
Can I run both in parallel and use VC for the calendar function and Voice speed dial for the dialing ?
Plus I try to install VC 1.6 now .. but the button maps only to the explorer button on my TytnII .. not able to move him to the voice record button with the button application in settings
any suggestion / fix
Thanks freecall

I have the same problem.... any solution?!?!?!?
Cyberon is crap. I posted a detailed procedure for replacing it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=337501
I have installed Cyberon voice commander v2.0 and i am very happy with it when i use it with my bluetooth!!!
My only problem is that i do not know how to assign this program to the default "button 6".
I think default settings are:
"Button 6" --> Cyberon voice commander and
"Button 6 (Hold)" --> Record. (This one works).
hmm that sounds like a drastic deinstall .. so anyway to get the Voice speed dial back without doing a full hard reset if I would it like better than VC after some testing ?

M$ Voice Command ROCKS!
Ok I don’t say that about many applications especially M$ ones but I love VC. I keep my phone in its case and the BT ear piece in the ear, when the phone rings or I get a Text message VC tells me who is calling or reads the text to me. If I have an appointment but don’t recall what time it is, I just ask VC.
As far as accuracy in voice dial, it can’t be beat, say “Call: Joe Blow on mobile phone” and it will confirm “Call Joe Blow on mobile?” never misses. Say; “Dial 2125551212” and it will confirm and dial the number. No voice tags no training and it works for anyone. If my wife grabs my phone and needs to call someone she hits the VC button and off she goes.
Ok so there is one issue, with the Tilt there is no convenient button to map too, but since I do all my dialing from the BT headset or car unit it doesn’t matter to me. If you don’t mind it maped to your IE soft key ok, you can get to IE 3 or 4 other ways. On my old wizard (long live the wizard) I had it mapped to the record button and it worked great.

I have to agree with Russ. Microsoft Voice Commander is by far the best ~$17.00 I have spent for this phone, as well as the 8125 I had before this. The Voice regconition is awesome. I did have to change the buttons as described above. I chose the camera button as I never use the camera anyway. It works great with my HT700(headset) as well as the HT820(bluetooth headphones). The options allow for a good level of customization as well.
that sounds realy good and I will start testing it .Two quick questions to the comments above:
- have you installed VC without deleting / un-installing Voice speed dial on your Kaiser ?
- second it looks my device recognize all VC commands like time, date , help , signal etc but when I say call First Name Last Name it never finds any of my 590 contacts .. even it the name is as simple as Taxi G7 .. beep comes back empty .
When I say just call .. it dials a number I do not even recognize.
Can this be related that I do not have a option menu for contact in the VC settings (it is greyed ) , I can only select the notification button ?
Or is this maybe because I use PI 2007 ?
Thanks Freecall

freecall,
Right now i have both installed (getting ready to delete Voice Dial) and VC is partially functional. I will accept commands and process them correctly but it will not announce calls, read messages or calendar data. So once i have VD removed I will let you know.
I recommend you also remove voice dial before trying anymore tests.

I did not uninstall Voice Dial. IF you want to hear the calls and emails, make you configure VC properly. There is settings for only:
1.) Only announce during Free-Time. Make sure you check that one to whatever you want.
2.) Only High Priorty Emails get annouced. Again, check whichever option you want.
Where do I get a list of commands that VC will recognize? E.G Dial, Recall, on Mobile, etc.
Say "What can I say?" and you'll have your answer...

or go to the Microsoft website and look up VoiceCommand 1.6 for PPC. The list is really quite long!

Any ideas Gang?
So, after following the thread for removing voice dialer and remapping the PTT button to become button 6 and button 6 (hold) VC is still not announcing incoming calls (and yes I have configured the options!) anyone have any idea why it would perform 90% of its duty and not the last 10%?
Russ741
Are you sure it's not announcing them, or is it possible it's announcing them through the "wrong" speaker? If you've got it set to use BT, BT, and only BT, then all of the announcements go through the headset, or don't get made if it's not currently connected (like walking out of range and then back in).
I tweaked mine to announce only through the speaker, then turned it off because the robot voice annoyed me, but at first I thought it wasn't working...
One question about VC...
Do you have to say the person's full name to dial them? Let's say I have a contact name John Smith, do I have to say "Call John Smith Mobile", or can I program nicknames somewhere within the software so I can say something like "Call Smitty"?
It's based on the contact name, so "Call Smitty" will confuse it.
Is it possible to send messages just using voice or only receive them?

It is based on what ever names you have in contacts so, for example if I want to call my office I say; "Call work" since there is only one number in the contacts database VC doesnt ask for Mobile, home or work. And since my office is just listed as First Name: Work Last Name: <blank> it understands.

I simply reads the text or email to you, so there is no way to compose a message with VC.

Hi all..
Is there any way i can make my Diamond read out the caller's name whenever the phone rings.. as in the N series (Nokia) phones.. This feature is very handy, that i dont need to go to the table to see who's calling...
It already does that automatically. If you have the programmed the number in your contacts list, it will automatically search the name corresponding with the caller's nr.
Or, did you mean something else?
Speaker is not that loud on Jewel.
But I would definitely be interested in this.
I think 'Voice Command' does it!
Do a search ...
Dear Akito, i mean My Nokia N73 (All N series) reads the name in between playing the ringtone... That is ---Ringtone--Name---Ringtone---Name--, so i can here the name of person calling me from far off the room.. and that's an in built feature of N series not a third party software..
You could do this manually, I have a lot of peoples voices as my ringtones. I simply make them say something, and record it. Then I associate the recording with the corresp. person, so I always know who's calling, if it's someone from my contacts, even before I get my phone out of my pocket... Besides it's a lot of fun, some of my "ringtones" are hilarious
Dear Flipside your idea is good, but not functional, i mean i have over 670 contacts, i can't keep manually making a ringtone for each!!! My Nokia N73 reads any new name added to the adress book..!!
anyway thanks for the idea, i can do that for my close contacts
Yeah, I'm a big fan of this feature on my N73 (although Bulgarian names often don't sound quite right ). Especially when listening to music thru stereo headset or driving car with bluetooth handsfree (which is most of the time for me) and your phone is not that easy to reach in your pocket.
Can somebody confirm is there any 3rd party app that does that?
Generally that`s not an N73 feature but a Symbian feature ... so any Symbian phone of 60v3 at least can do that. It did my N80 and N6120 as well ... and I would be happy if Diamond has this feature.
So finally as yet no solutions to this?????
Try Microsoft Voice Command.

Yea and it can even read out your text messages
Yes MS Voice Command does this:
Spoken caller ID. Windows Mobile smartphone users can take full advantage of incoming caller ID without ever looking down at the screen. Incoming call information is announced as calls are received. Users who think they may have missed a call can simply ask, "What calls did I miss?" and Voice Command will recite the time and phone number of missed calls. (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/microsoft/voice-command-features.mspx)
Good luck
Hi,
I have several contacts that have numbers containing P (the pause), mainly for dialing through voip services providing cheap international calls such as dialnow.com or nonoh.net who provide a landline number that you can call from your mobile
The problem is that the phone does not match the full number with the contact, it only matches the first part up to the P. What I mean is, I have multiple numbers starting with the same landline, then P, then their number, like so:
0123453335P078127493041# - Foo Bar
0123453335P078924134212# - Joe Doe
0123453335P...
You get the picture. What happens is that the phone always identifies any of those numbers, regardless of which I call, only as "Foo Bar" (or which ever is first in the contacts list). It's quite annoying as it gets registered as Foo Bar everywhere: e.g. in the call history, while the call is in progress etc and only the first part of the number is displayed. Another problem is that if I use this kind of contact as a favorite in the People page in TouchFLO 3D, and I try to call it straight from the People page, then only the landline number is dialed, the part with P and the rest of the number is not sent at all ...
I would like it to be able to do a full match on the number, not just the first part up to P, so that it appears correctly in the call history, during call and to be able to call such a number from the People page in TouchFLO 3D.
Any fix for this?
Cheers
bump?
anyone has any idea of what I could try at least?
would a different dialer work? anything?
so many replies ...
I have found a workaround myself ... if you replace the P with a , (comma) then you will get a full match; maybe someone else wants that behaviour.
I have the same problem but no luck with comma...
What have you done? one number with p and the other with comma? that should work but if we have more than 2 ...
By the number of answers you got... i'm sure it will be complicated to solve this one
I solved this problem by sticking a space before the p
P works for me. I use it with a prefix number for 0800 numbers so that the call is part of my free mins.
Just spotted that you use a capital P. I use a small p. Might make a difference.
Thanks everyone.. it looks like that this depends on the dialler program used.
For me that solutions were not working but then I've updated my ROM (with new dialer) and it started to work.
Thanks a lot.
Hi,
My brother and his wife share the same house phone number.
When I call my brother, the phone shows her contact information.
The same happens to other contacts. When I call my wife at home, my contact info shows up during the "call".
People with the same phone numner:
Jan Nissens
Nadine Van den Abbeele
Tom Nissens
Yasmine Nissens
With default Dialer from TyTN II:
When I call Jan at home, it dials Tom
When I call Nadine at home, it dials Tom
When I call Yasmine at home, it dials Tom
When I call Tom at home, it dials Tom
Doe someone else experience this?
Or even better: who has the solution to this problem?
Patrick
You have stored the same nr. on youre brother and hes wife, you need to change what is the main nr. Like now its the house nr. So when you call youre brother, he got the same nr. as youre brothers wife.
Give the troubled contact order to call cell nr. as default instead.
I don't understand your solution. Can you be more specific?

You have saved more than one contact on the same phone number. When you want to dial one of them the other shows as contact as they share the same number.
Indeed, that is the problem. And do you have a solution?
Patrick
he already stated his solution
you have x listed as same number as home
you need to make y the same number but not save it as their home number.
two diff contacts, same number, save one as home and the other contact as something else like "pager, work2, etc...
I'm afraid that this will not work properly with spb Mobile Shell. I can call Home, Work and Mobile. But all these numbers all occupied.
Maybe Microsoft (developer of Windows Mobile) or HTC (customiser of Windows Mobile) has to come up with a solution.

SPB are the ones you want to ask to improve the interface if the solution works normally as stated with WM, to be honest i would just put a contact as say Mat & Shaz if they lived together or as you have since my brain would communicate to me and say they live together and i know who i'm calling...
Merging them into 1 contact isn't a good idea:
- I can't store the birthday for each of the contacts
- They have 2 kids, so there is a total of 4 persons with 1 home phone number
- I want to be able to know who i called before (I tap on the corresponding person to call the home number).

They are not going to adapt to SPB Anyways, make contacts like this then:
Wife Home, Wife Work, Brother Home, Brother Work. Yeah you will have more contacts instead of all numbers in one, but you will not have problem calling them.

Given that HTCs default Sim Manager/Contacts program automatically labels all of my imported from the SIM phone numbers, as Cell Phone numbers (even landline ones) and there seems to be no way to correct this during a batch import (I'm not going to go in and edit each one), I'd have little faith in a software solution but you could dictate to your friends that they all install multiple numbers at their homes and have them individually assigned for your ease of identification
Seriously though, if you want them still to be friends, there's no simple way to get around this problem as the Caller ID information that comes into your phone specifies a phone number and that number is tied to a contact (or several in your case). How is the phone to know which contact is on the other end of the phoneline actually making the call? HTC hasn't developed a crystal ball plugin

Sorry for misunderstanding you. Although your post is titled with 'calling', I just couldn't see where the real problem lay as you already know who you're calling because you looked it up in your contacts and tapped it. Although another name may subsequently be displayed on the phone, that's one of the problems with HTCs software (along with incorrectly assuming all imported sim contacts are cell phone numbers). Short of re-writing that code yourself, I know of no way to fix it. You'll be better off keeping all your birthdates and 'finer details' elsewhere IMO. Personally, although I dabbled in using the 'onboard' contacts, I now only use sim contacts.
The other people who have posted here look to have provided plenty of workarounds but it's HTC (or spb) that would need to fix the software to get things exactly how you want it. I suggest that you report this to them and see what they have to say about it.
I have a fix for this; hopefully this will work in your country too.
For my sister I store the home number as 0123456789p1
For my brother-in-law I store the number as 0123456789p2
The "p" tells the dialer to pause and this is then treated like a different number. the number after the "p" is (in the UK) ignored and so can be any number you like.
Unfortunately, on my TyTN II it doesn't work.
My wife and myself have the same home phone number. I added "p1" to my home number and "p2" to my wife's.
But when I call my wife at home, it still shows my contact while dialing!
I also softreset the TyTN II, but it didn't work.
That's sad, and it means it's HTC which cannot handle "p1" and "p2".
Patrick

Did you add the p1 or p2 etc at the end of the number? I tried this on mine and it worked perfectly. Yes the HTC software has its bugs but this seems to be a good workaround as long as your network copes with the p1 etc. If it's dialling out ok then that's a very good sign. Perhaps your ROM may have different abilities but my standard setup copes with the rjcb23 workaround perfectly - just a shame I have no need to use it!
I managed to find another trick.
I replaced p1 and p2 into #1 and #2
A big thank you to rjcb23 for giving the hint for adding p1 and p2!
Patrick
Hi, I have one more question that would help me decide on the HD7. I have about 1300 contacts in Outlook and multiple #'s for each contact. With some of the contacts, I have added a name behind one or more of the numbers in Outlook (say like on the Mobile # I have 222-222-2222 Tom). Well, currently in Android when I say call the mobile number of the main contact (and wanting to dial Tom), Android substitutes the numerical value for Tom (866) after the phone number, which in turns makes it an incorrect number. When I had Windows Mobile 6.5 Voice command dialing on my other WM phones, it would ignore the names behind the number and correctly dial it. Does anyone know if WM7 does the same thing? I hate to have to go back into Outlook and delete all those names behind the numbers, and if the HD7 handles it like WM6.5 did, it would help me decide to go with it. Thanks.
Seems to work for me -- I just added some letters to the end of an outlook contact, and called it, and it worked fine.
I should add that voice dialing has been flawless for me -- "Call david smith home two" calls the number under "Home 2" for David smith, and if there's only one David, you don't even need the smith!
Thanks
That's good news. Thanks for doing that.
And more, Windows Mobile never have that issue
