My chassis cracked a while ago along the screw on the underside of the sliding piece near the Home key.
Does anyone know where I can find a chassis so that I can replace this one?
Thanks,
Matt

I have had my phone open a few times...
1) To replace Vario III case with Kaiser case
2) To fix faulty keyboard, had to bend some of the aluminium on the bottom of the keyboard unit.
So I know my way around inside and haven't broken anything... yet!
Anyway, my screen is very scratched so I want a new digitizer, they're significantly cheaper than a whole LCD assembly. I got one for £5, the assembly is over £30.
I did read on some thread that the digitiser WILL perish as I separate it from the LCD screen. Is this true? If so how easy is the clean up job?
Also, the official kaiser service manual shows the LCD and Digitiser held together with tape on the outside and not double sided tape or glue like the actual assembly looks like.
Has anyone done this before? Is there a decent risk of damaging the LCD itself or to be on the save side should I just buy the whole assembly?
I have the digitiser here and ready to go as long as I can get some info from someone who has tried this.
Cheers
Sorry bump.
to be honest there will be soldering involved and u need special equipment for that ribbon
look at http://rapidshare.com/files/103168855/HTC_Kaiser_Service_Manual_jas_pik.pdf
there is detailed procedure and all the tools needed, i believe the tools are basics, and i dont think they will be expensive to have, as matter of fact, i think buying a tool box is an asset.
best luck ...
Hi!
The service manual linked to does not specifically contain information about replacing the digitizer, just how to assembly it.
Do I need a certain kind of black tape to attach it? Is that the only way it is connected to the LCD itself?
Mine is also very scratched, and I would like to replace it, preferably done by myself.
Any tips?
Cheers
a good insulation tape (anti-static prefered) will do the job

I just got a busted up HD7 and I ordered a new LCD and digitizer for it. The phone is in pretty good condition but the faux chrome around the screen is scratched up and I hate scratches. I want to buy a new mid frame or complete housing but the ones I see on ebay look a little differnt from the one I have. Some do not have the opening over the ear speaker on the mid frame and none of them come with the speaker mesh tape at the top and bottom of the digitizer (yes, it's just some cheap tape!)
My other concern is that I do not know how to remove the volume buttons. The replacements housings I see for sale do not have the buttons with it. I only found the button flex cable for sale, not the actual buttons. Just wondering if anyone else has done this.
Wow. 77 views, 0 replies. You guys are all software and no hardware
I did find a mid housing with the buttons already installed with the mesh for only $15! I'll post pics when I do this and do a tutorial of how to replace the digitizer.
there's an HD7 accessories reserved area for harwared minded people

When you take phone apart down to the LCD it becomes apparent how to get the buttons off. You have to use a pair of tweezers or a needle to pry them up and out. Do not grab them from the middle, grab only the edge.

Thanx for clarifying because I never did change the housing, so I never pulled that flex cable out.
Ok so i have a cracked digitizer...
I am going to replace it myself, however this phone is obviously not a straight forward repair.
Anyone have any personal experience replacing the digitizer on this phone? I have seen the youtube videos and read the xda.cn chinese breakdown, just looking for some personal input on the process if someone has one.
Also what will i need to rebuilt it? Do i need double sided tape etc. Thanks
80 views and no ones ever had experience with this?
i replaced it on 2 hd7 phones.
its a real pain to get it off because the glue tape they use goes all the way around, and its strong stuff.
you need to take apart the entire phone to get to the ribbon cable where the digitizer plugs in, so just look for some youtube videos of a tear down and watch carefully.
honestly the hardest part for me was getting the screen and digitizer clean of fingerprints and tiny broken glass pieces without messing up the screen, while keeping the double sided tape i put on in place and intact.
just take your time and everything will go smoothly.
-edit- yes you will need some double sided tape because when you take the digitizer off the sticky layer of the tape goes with it, the rest of the tape stays on the screen and is impossible to get off without damaging your screen so you have to apply new tape over it.
i used some thin scotch brand double sided tape and i cut it into long narrow strips with a razor using my old digitizer as a cutting board, the same width as the original tape.
Hi mate appreciate the advice in my thread on the HD7 replacement.
I managed to get the digitizer out, however on replacing the new one i have a problem..
You know the old digitizer has three plastic prongs, on the buttons at the bottom, search etc.
Am i rigth in saying they need to be transferred to the new digitizer? As i can't see how they fit on the LCD when stuck to the digitizer? It raises the digitizer a little, unless they hand off the edge of the lcd?
Thanks

Those are nothing more than spacers. I have replaced two digitizers without them. As long as you get some good 3M double sided in that area there is no problems.

um no they arent spacers...they are what directs the light to the 3 bottom keys. they are there for a reason so i recommend using them... ... now you are spot on with the 3m tape as it is the tape needed to do this whole job properly... the scotch crap is not made for this and WILL NOT HOLD UP NOR SEAL PROPERLY>>>
and for the person who said to put the tape over the old.... not a good idea... it can be removed and new should be used to replace the old..
sorry but i do this daily for a living so i do have a clue about this... just trying to help make it a successful repair and not one that ends up in my shop after the home repair failed and it damaged more than just the screen.....
I need help finding a peice. I ordered a screen replacement and it did not come with the plastic screw mount. I attached a picture of the part I need.
I need this peice because the old one has old adhesive strips stuck to it and I can't remove them.

You can remove the adhesive. Rub it with your finger, and it will start to roll up and come off. And yes, it is a slow, labor intensive process, but it does work.
Anybody know how to replace this piece? I don't know how to separate the plastic from the glass.
Anyone know where to find the sticker that holds the frame to the display?
Just did a logic board replacement, and the screen is loose in the housing. You can push it in a good amount and it slowly pops back out. The sticky is done.
I need the thin adhesive that follows the frame boarder, but can't find it anywhere online. All I find are digitizer to LCD stickers.
Anyone know where to locate what I'm referring to??
