Huge Problem!!! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

alright guys, I am gonna admit right off the bat that I only did one search here and when I came up with nothing I made a new thread. i'm sorry but let me explain.
I was using confused stu's mobile vista 1.3 and I liked it a lot, but I wanted to test a new rom and so I flashed and I hate this one, it is extremely slow. the problem is that when I flashed this rom my comp crashed and now I have no comp for at least two weeks. is there any way to perform all the steps of an sd flash with out a computer? I know I need to format my sd card and extract the RUU from the rom I want but I can't seem to format my sd card without a computer.
thanks in advance I will love whoever get's me my old rom back

1. Your SD card really should be Fat32 from the get go.
2. You dont need the RUU. You need the .nbh file and rename to KAISIMG.nbh and place in the root directory of the SD card.

thanks

thanks tater, that's what I meant was the signed_RUU.nbh, but I have another favor to ask you guys, will someone download the rom and post the nbh file here, or someone with the ROM please post it here so I can go back to my favorite ROM? that would be greatly appreciated

Are you posting on your phone? If not use the computer you are you using to post?

yeah i'm using my phone to post cause I don't have a computer at home with internet, and my comp with my roms on it died and is getting fixed

download the rom with to ur phone then....i've done it many times before

the problem is that I can't get the rom from anywhere except 4shared and that won't work on my phone, I can't find a mirror. plus it coms as a .rar file and I don't have winrar on my phone.

Then Download PocketRAR. Works Great.
You can format SD card with Pocket Mechanic Pro, SK Tools, Resco Explorer, etc.

everthing I have searched to get pocket rar on my phone has gotten me to pocketrar3.71.exe and when I try to run that it tells me that it is not a valid pocketpc application, I don't know if i'm just stupid or what but I don't think I can deal with this rom any longer. the other reason I wanted someone to post the nbh file was because the only place I can find the rom from stu is on 4shared which doesn't work on my phone, kep getting some scripting error and the phone locks up

here ya go I think thats it

hey tater, as far as I can see you're the only person that flashes with sd card. my card is fat16 and when I try to format it tells me that the card is inacessible bcause a program is using it and there is nothing on the card. by the way thanks for the upload on megaupload

Can you not get to a pc at your work? The SD card must be fat32.
Or try to get Storage Tools 2.2.

KAISIMG.nbh has to be in the root directory of the sd card

Sd card removing and freezing on cyan mod

ok ever since the 4.1.99 &.999 update..my sdcard never has the mount unmount option..
also at times it just says no sd card in some apps..and even in my recovery says cant find e:\ mount sd first..
then when my phone is on.. i unmount using root manager..and pull the sd card it freezes.. i am mobile right now so couldnt search fast enough just wanna know if anyone can answer this for me real quicc dont need a bunch of hate threads that waste space if u have the answer post the link or the solution.. if you dont please just leave it alone i will delete once i get the answer! or any suggestions.. sd card is a 2gig sd.. had a 16gig class 6 and still did it.. so its not tha sd.. and i tried reflashin 4.1.999 and 4.1.99.. still nothin workd..also i fix_permissions and fixed the ext2 to ex3 and did all that **** in recovery lol..
?
no one? no one has a similar problem
Have you tried reformatting either of those cards and redoing the partitions? Or have you only attempted to repair them?

ive tried the reformat when i updated to 4.1.999...i ran the fix_permissions.. The fix ext3 and everything in recovery lol.. Just dont have a mount yet!..
The only problem I've had like this is where the sd card was removed by its self and I would have to reinstall every app again but that was on 4.0.4....ur phone most likely should freeze when u take the sd card out because all of ur apps are running from it because mine did when it would remove the sdcard by its self
if you write so its readable...you might get an answer sooner.....also..if you have apps2sd..you cant remove the card while the phone is on as rrod said

I have to say, posting threats to delete your thread if anyone says anything you dont like while asking for help is a lil rude hun... but I'm not your momma so my lecture ends here...
That was supposed to say "only" attempted a repair. And I meant since the issue arose, not before you noticed it...but you answered my question in your own way...
Well...
sorry my dear this wasnt originally posted in the q&a it was in the development section thats why i "threatened?!" to pull it out..just wanted a simple answer if any..
and my question isnt hard..its basic..
EVER SINCE I UPDATED TO THE HTC 1.6 FOR CYANS 4.1.99 I DONT HAVE THE OPTION TO MOUNT OR UNMOUNT AN SD.. IVE BEEN RUNNIN MY APPS OFF MY SD SINCE I FIRST ROOTED MY PHONE AND ALWAYS HAD THE OPTION TO MOUNT AND UNMOUNT.. JUST NOW WITH THIS NEW ROM I CANT..
SO IF I SOUND LIKE A NOOB IM SORRY I JUST HAVENT EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM BEFORE.. SO TECHNICALLY ITS NOT SOMETHING THAT IM NEW TOO AS FAR AS BEING ROOTED..JUST WITH THIS CERTAIN ISSUE...
ive been running root since roots been accessible to us.. i just havent had this issue..
so to sum it up..
Before 4.1.99 (with new htc 1.6)
still rooted..running 4.1.xxx...aps stored on sd...partitioned..ext2/ext3
i could click on Settings>sd card> mount/un mount sd card..phone never froze...
After 4.1.99 (with htc's 1.6)
i can no longer click on Setings>sd card>mount/unmount.. the section is grey'd out... and at times it just locks up on me.
i enter my recovery and times it says to mount me E: (sd drive) but i never unmounted or anything..
i honestly dont know how to get much clearer.. if im still not makin since...(dont take this in offence) but maybe you dont know what the issue is.. but thanks for your time and effort to help..
The unmount option is greyed out in mine too so I am assuming it's just the rom...
As far as recovery asking you to mount your sd, have you attempted to put your card in a reader and see if a laptop/pc recognizes it? If it does, reformat the card and start over with a fresh flash of 1.6 and .999 or whatever ya got now...or not
And by rude I meant ballsy and awesome...what'd ya think I meant? Glad you're not sensitive sugar...

If I could just nit pick at this real quick. You said you've had root since root has been available but also said you've been running apps2sd since rooting your phone. Apps2sd wasn't available when root became availabe. Also you said you have ext2/ext3 partition. Do you have both or just one of em? Also

Wow ^ ur sum else..
Lol thankks for jus wastin useable thread space..
And evry1sgurl.. yuh I reformated awhile bacc I was runnin ext2 then it was slow..read to try to convert ext - ext3 so I did using my rav-dream 1.2 recovery... I haven't been on xda in a while since cyan released a version or 2 before 4.1.111.. actually I cnt remember when I started gettin on here.. I think when cupcake 1st release..I take that bacc ... but yuh I never had any issues like I said jus till the new cyan releases. So I jus wanted 2 see if anyone was havin issues..or if I did sum wrong.. so if ur havin similar issues then I would of jus took in consideration it was the rom.. and the sd still mounts..cuz I can access once I get phone booted.. jus times my phone freezes and I have to pull battery..and when I go in recover to. Checc sd it always say to mount my sd its not in so I have to pop sd out reboot...wait for like 10 sec... pull battery..put sd bacc in reboot into recovery then it reads so I jus fix-permissions and it loads the rom fine again..yuh weird that's why I posted..
And I dnt have a problem wit speakin my mind. It a forum some people take there "job" a lil to serious but when they do its all good...I dnt cut for that..(not directin toward u ma)

[GUIDE/Video TUTORIAL] How to Partition SD Card for Android

How to Partitioning your SD Card for Android (not for APP2SD)
This guide is for:
* If windows mobile is your primary os on your phone (Windows Mobile is on NAND)
* SD Partitioning is for Haret.exe (vogue users probably dont use haret.exe anymore)
* This is not the Guide for Apps2SD.
* This guide was made primarily for those use windows mobile & Android
* This guide was made in complimentary of Jamezelle's hero android builds as hero would run slow without partitioning.

You'll Need The Following.
* Partitioning Program
Gparted (FREE) Download here
Paragons Partition Manager
Partition Magic
Etc.
* A custom rom that supports Disk Drive Mode (Your Phone acts as a Flash Drive)
* About 15 Minutes.
Benefits of Android on SD Card:
*Great for Those who are scared to flash Android on Nand.....
*Great for those who want to use both Android & Windows Mobile
--->if you rely on Turn By Turn GPS which is on Windows Mobile
--->if you need to use a windows mobile Apps
--->if you prefer opera browser/opera mini on windows mobile
--->if you use Androids Latest Builds, but you need to use Bluetooth(in WinMo)
--->if you are a Microsoft Loyalist
--->if you have the time (Read some of these nonsense benefits, watched my video tutorial, and partition your SD Card)
Video Tutorial Here - Youtube Link
Hope This Helps
Nice work
*IF* your phone can be mounted in windows as a fixed (non-removable) drive, you can partition it within windows. My custom ROM gives me the option to mount as a non-removable device. You don't have to format as ext2, the installer did that for me, you just have to create two RAW 256MB partitions.
That said, this method is a lot easier, I just couldn't do it with my netbook!
Didnt know that you could jsut create 2 partitions of RAW unallocated partitions without formatting and the installer will do it for you.
You could still do it on a netbook if you download Paragon Partition Manager.
That is a windows program, so if you dont have a dvd drive you could use Paragon.
Also you could get a flash drive and make that flash drive bootable with Gparted.
nice video, very professional. Partitioned my 2gb card with Gpart and it couldn't have been easier, thanks
now for your next video could you show how to make a USB connection with the android vogue to win 7?

Funny thing is i havent been able to get a USB Connection with windows 7... (cause i havent looked too much into it)
Ill try to find some time this weekend and figure it out.
And i hope i can fulfill your video tutorial request
Could you post some text instructions on the .conf file?
I have some questions regarding the performance factors of the different settings, like using compcache with a hero build. Is the backing swap for compcache using the 2nd ext2 partition? What are the options you need to enable to use that 2nd partition as swap? That's all I'm curious about, but feel free to expand.

thanks, no hurry tho it's been mostly laziness on my part, I've read through the forums took lots of notes I just need to get it done
But the USB connection imo is the hardest part of switching to android on the vogue, at least so far.
I think i'll try out jamezelle's SenseTATTOO 1.0 that will give me the motivation to get it working.
Ha Ha Ooops
so i was up late last night so i figured i'd finally get around to partitioning my sd card for android and saw this post and figured cool. It was a great tutorial and if i had been a little more alert i would have probably paid attention more. I ended up wiping the hardrive of my computer totally unaware of what my stupid headwas doing. So it marked the end of my procrastination of upgrading to win 7. After i got everything back up and running I finally paid attention and was able to partition my card. thank you for the time and effort you put into this video. it was info i couldn't find with what little time i had. I just thought i'd let you know. that if your stupid like me maybe gparted is dangerous for you
thx for the vid.
Mac users: just use disk utility, pretty straight forward. back up your microsd first though, it wipes it.

I think you're "loading gparted while in windows 7".....Rather than bootin from Gparted.
You have to get your computer to boot from the cd.....
so you have to restart your computer with gparted in the drive.
Side Note:
Normally when you turn on ur computer, the computer boots from your hard drive. Your hard drive has windows on it; and therefore boots windows.
You want to have your computer boot from Gparted (off the cd) and not boot from your hard drive (Windows 7)
Solution:
You have to Restart your computer
Hopefully Gparted Gets loaded
If it doesnt its because the BIOS on your computer set Boot Priorities to Boot From the CD. This should definately work (100% sure).
lol ok thanks...I'll try soon.
And how do we "use" the multiple partition system?
Does it need a new data.img file?
Thanks!
it's for running android from a sd card, the installer will move files to the ext2 partitions for faster access and better performance
Well, the question was "how to", not "what it does"
But nevermind, found it!
i did everything with paragon..when i put my sd card on my kaiser tilt it wats to format..and then when i put it back in my computer it wants to format again.
I am using an micro sd adapter and paragon partition..
do i neccarly have to use EXT2? or can i just run it off formated fat 32

Yes you need it to be Ext2. Ext2 is something recognizable in linux.
Android recognizes this too and I believe it needs the Ext2. I think if you were to create 3 partitions of Fat32 it would not help the performance.
Android usually copies the files over to the Ext2 Partitions, and if it doesnt detect an Ext2, it wont copy any files anywhere; thus the performance isnt as great.
I had this problem when i was trying to format my sd card for the first time.
Everytime i would plug my sd card back into my phone my phone wanted to format it.
I figured out that i did the partitions wrong. I re did it (the method shown in the video) and i was able to plug it (the sd card) back into my phone with no error message.
So what im basically saying is you may have done it wrong.
I wish i could remember what i did wrong so i can help you correct it and do it right but it was a while ago i dont remember in great detail. All i know is when i tried it again (the correct way) it worked perfectly.
Here is a screenshot of what your card should look like. (may differ slightly in paragon's partition manager)
ok i have successfully made 2 ext2 partitions at the right size.
What all can i do with this?
Can i now install apps to my sd card?
What is the process of doing this?
Also, i can no longer get my sd card to show up on my computer with automount or sd split widget
Im running Myns rls4 on nand.

[MOD] native swap

hey guys im making this thread cus androidboss dint know how to do this and im mkaing it easier for him(might help others too so )
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DEAD SDCRADS PHONES LAPTOPS DESKTOPS AND ANYTHING ELSE
requirements
-windows computer
-phone with swiftdroid or any rom that supports inti.d boot scripts
-recovery 5.0.2.3
1. backup all sdcard stuff to computer.
2. wipe all data from the sdcard. after that use this to remove all partitions from sdcard( if you do not have any other partitions on sdcard skip to the end bellow the last picture)
http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm
the pics will look may look different cus im using a older version
mine looks like this

to remove all the other partitions
when all is done click apply at the top lefthand corner. at the end after it refreshes make sure there is only one partition left . the FAT32 partition.
so now the card has no data put it in the phone and boot into recovery(5.0.2.3). there go to advance>partition sdcard>EXT size 2M(2M if you dont want a ext partition but if you want then the size is up to you )>swap size 256m
power down the phone and put back data into the sdcard. now enjoy swap
well this is my first thread so hope it helps!!
hahaha thank you

custom rom??
I use this method more than 2 or 3 month, thats nothing new. Mur4ik Swiftdroid roms use this method, automatically find&use SD card's swap partition.
Before that, i made a video for my 2.1 Ultimate rom, how to partition SD card under windows to use swap&ext partition. (I use swapper for swap and joe's autoapp2SD in my ROM) Sometimes it not possible because compatibility problems between win&card readers but newer CWM recoveries able to partition cards.
yeah like i said androidboss did not know how to do this so i made this. others may also find is useful so why not make it public ??

Im quite a newbie in this, how exactly does swap and ext porticions work and what do they do ?
the memory card you are using is in a fat32 format so by partition it to let say a ext3 file type you can store apps on it(if im not wrong the phone's memory is also ext3) swap works as addition external ram used to run apps

http://mikegapinski.androidus.pl/android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-aosp/
I've done everything like the tutorial says, but I had older clockwork recovery 2.5 I guess something like that, and I've done the same thing in recovery selected advance>partition sdcard> EXT3 and selected 2gb then selected 256MB Swap, but when I run the OS and enter free in terminal it says swap 0.
What could have caused the problem?

I'm running CM9 Android 4.0.3
http://mikegapinski.androidus.pl/android-4-0-ice-cream-sandwich-aosp/
I've done everything like the tutorial says, but I had older clockwork recovery 2.5 I guess something like that, and I've done the same thing in recovery selected advance>partition sdcard> EXT3 and selected 2gb then selected 256MB Swap, but when I run the OS and enter free in terminal it says swap 0.
What could have caused the problem?
Thanks in advance!

look in root explorer (or any root file manager), in folder etc/init.d
if there isnt script called 07swapon, the swap wont active. and afaik, mike's ics doesnt have this script. u must add it manually.
Yes take 1 from any rom
How can I open *.img files so I can get the 07swapon file?
Can you give me the download link for swapon file?

CM7.2.4a to CM10

Hi,
I would like to know how can I install CM10 on my milestone which is currently on CM 7.2.4a and old open recovery which was available before 2nd boot. Should I switch to flash before going to CM10 or can I directly flash CM10 and also I have a 2gb microsd card will it be enough or do I need to go for new one (if new then which one should I buy?)?
Also the link to nightly builds looks to be blocked in this country so any alternate link will be helpful and appreciated.
Thanks
You need before flashing:
1) Wipe everything (cache,dalvik,data (so backup all your information before wiping data))
2) Create an ext partition on your SDCard. (it is necessary, 512MB or more is recommended) Follow THIS guide, if you don't know how to do it. Section 4.
You don't need to update the OR, but it is recommended.
The link to the nightlies in my signature doesn't work for you? If not, i'll upload the latest build to somewhere.

Thanks Erovia for your reply. The link does not work for me can you please upload the latest build and provide me the link. So there is no need to switch back to the stock?
You don't need to go back to stock, just wipe everything.
The link doesn't work for me at the moment, i think the server is down.

Thank you very much Erovia. Appreciate it. Could you please lemme know if going back to CM7 will as easy in case I want to go back as its very much stable.
If you want to go back, just wipe everything and flash the rom. That's all.
Or restore nandroid backup you made before "flashing" cm10
Thanks guys... I need an advice on micro SD card as I'm about to buy a new one. Does milestone support more than 8 gb should I buy 8 or 16 gb and what's the significance of class which class is preferred?
Sent from my Milestone using xda app-developers app
Up to 32GB are supported, the higher the class the better.
I don't know what's the speed limit given by the Milestone's hardware - but I guess Class 10 is sufficient.
I bought this one: Samsung Essential Class 10 microSDHC 32GB
But it gave my phone hiccups, I had to format it with this tool to make it work without problems: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/

Thanks. Could you please lemme know how to move from OR (old) to 2nd boot, Is it just replacing the OR folder and update.zip or should I install vulnerable recovery again?
Just delete the old OpenRecovery folder and update.zip and copy the new ones to you sdcard.
Once you flashed the vulnerable recovery, it is there, you don't have to do with it anything.
the same

I have the same question with you
I've answered that in post #2.
Please, read the whole topic (it's not so big) before asking something that someone asked before.
Something wrong with partitioning
My phone is hung on boot. I think there is something wrong in the sd card partitioning. I used minitool to partition from then on when I try to wipe cache/data/dalvik its giving a msg at the end can't mount... Could you please lemme know whats wrong. I have 16gb card should I first partition to ext2 and then use tunefs to convert is it must?
I used this partition layout for CM10:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Note that my card is only 8GB, your fat32 partition should be bigger. I used "parted" from the Recovery console to accomplish this.
Please read these guides on partitioning your sdcard, they explain everything:
http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/ (boot into Recovery, console, then start from step 2)

Now I managed to get into the open recovery and installed but now the question is how do I make sure the ext3 partition which I created is ok is there any way to check from within android?
lbt: I see you have linux-swap partition can you tell me why you created it and how does it help?

Erovia: Can you please tell me whats the use of HWA settings? And what all do I need to disable in order to have better performance. I've managed to install the CM10 on my milestone thanks for your support and loving the look and feel of CM10. Is there anything I can do with the battery its running out pretty quickly.

The Milestone only has 256MB RAM which is full almost all the time (even with Gingerbread), Jellybean requires more RAM to run smooth. Swap is kinda like RAM on your sdcard, since you can't just plug in more RAM into the Milestone. It does not make your phone faster, but provides some "emergency" RAM for when your 256MB are full. It keeps background apps alive when multi tasking, if RAM was full they would be killed.
HWA Settings: You can turn off GPU hardware acceleration for individual apps, this saves RAM but they may look more laggy with animations.

I think version 8.2 is best one. For example in performance
Please share the link 8.2 kernel

Do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning
Backup its data first.
P.S. Your phone is on JB right?

Other option, install Universal kernel flasher from the Play store, and some root explorer (like ES file explorer or similar). Unpack zip of kernel and install kernel.bin.md5 with Universal kernel flasher.
BTW I think that you can't flash CoCore zip in stock recovery, you must use Universal kernel flasher.

1. Try with other SD card if you can
2. Do that repartition (I posted you a link) - it was happening to me too, but after fixing SD card it was visible.
Where exacly do you go in stock recovery? You need an external SD card, it can't work with internal.

1. I going to try.
2. My PC does see my sd card.
I chose "install update from external SD card". After chose I see only ".../" or something like this:
".../
*&^*&^&^
*&^*&^44
8798 (. 877
"
The files are on SD card (external)
I think that problem is in the version of JB - android.
compatible with carbonRom?
Hi, im a bit of a newbie with kernels and this might be a stupid question but i hope you guys can help.
