Contacts phone number formatting - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello,
Does anyone have any tips on configuring phone number formatting within contacts? I noticed that a few have parenthesis around the zip code while others do not. The problem with this is that when I start typing in their number, theirs does not show up since it starts with a paren instead of a number. Example
Number: 5551234567
Shows in contacts as: (555) 123-4567
Dialing "555" results in nothing
Number: 4441234567
Shows in contacts as: 4441234567
Dialing "444" results in this number being listed in the filter
I've tried deleting the paren's in the contact's phone number, but hitting ok just resulted in it being formatted again with the paren's. Any tips? Thanks.

I always edit the phone numbers in Outlook. That is the only way I know of.

you can try to set your regional settings to English(Australia) which will remove the "()"

interesting idea
Interesting workaround, will it affect anything else? Adversely or otherwise?

What ROM are you running? I have all my numbers stored with parentheses, and my contact names start filtering themselves as I am dialing the area code.

Rom info:
version: 1.62.502.0
date: 01/17/08
Is there something newer out there? Where do I get it? Thanks.

Have you made any upgrades to your phone since you got it? If not, then I would suggest reading the Kaiser Wiki in depth and then deciding on which custom ROM you want to run. I have tested 30+ custom ROMs since I got my Tilt last October, and I have not had this issue with any of them.
In addition to fixing this issue, custom ROMs also perform much faster than standard Operator ROMs.

I just received it a week ago so I haven't done much. I admit, I've been a little wary of trying any ROM's out, but I'm always looking for "faster" so I'll definitely look into it.
For the moment though, it just seems really silly that a parenthesis is such a pain the a.

Problem with contacts and missing numbers

Hi all,
I got my spv m700 today. I have unlocked the sim and cid. I then flashed a new rom onto it. The only problem I have is my contacts, they are all on my sim. The thing is most of them have their numbers missing. Anyone got any ideas to help me.
Thanks in advance
Are you sure the numers are missing?
Look at each contact and see if the number is in a different field to the ones you are used to looking at / seeing.... if you see what I mean
Yes I know what you mean. I have opened the contacts and there is absolutely nothing there but their name. Out of 47 contacts I have all the names but only 3 with their numbers
eeeeerrkkk
have you checked your old phone to see whats in there? You might get lucky, but looks / sounds like you lost the lot

WM6 Recognize Phone Numbers in Calendar?

Has anyone discovered a way to get WM6 Pro to recognize phone numbers in calendar entries, and make them clickable links? It seems that the smartphone version has the functionality, but the Pro/PocketPC version does not. Pretty lame, if you ask me.
Anyone think it's possible to create a cab/utility that enables it?
You can enter tel:123-456-7898 in the notes area and it will create a link similar to smartphone.
Still looking for something like this for the location line in the calendar.

I tried this and it doesn't seem to want to call. Any tips? It sounds so simple it is hard to see how I could have mucked it up...
I have had to enter a space or a hard return after the telephone number to get the link to work.
I desperately need this too!
Is there a utility/hack out there that will do this? As the original poster said, this is available on Smartphones! I can't believe MSFT didn't implement this!
While I'm at it, how about a feature that can detect Access or Pass codes for teleconferences? In other words, if the number appears as 1-866-000-0000 PC:12345 it should automatically dial 1866000000,,12345#
This is basic stuff that this OS should have... What a downer.
If you type in 'tel:' directly before number you should see the link, eg. tel:123765887

looking for way to dial # on calling card

hey,
looking for a way to be able to dial a number off my contacts when using a calling card. ie, when i call the calling card, it tells me to enter the number i wish to call, so instead of having to hand dial it in there, is there a way i can just go to contacts and insert that number? seems silly that i have to write that number on a piece of paper and then hand dial it. thanks
omar
Insert a "w" into the number to have the phone stop and wait for you to press send to enter anything that follows. Insert a "p" to have the phone pause for 2 seconds and then chug along. So for your contact:
(Calling Card Co. Phone #)w(CC Access Number/PIN)#p(Contact Phone Number)#
would dial the calling card, wait until you pressed send, enter your access code/pin for the calling card followed by a pound sign, pause two seconds (so the system can do its thing), and then dial the contact number followed by a pound.
You'll obviously need to customize to match the way your particular CC works.
Is it a silly question to ask why you are using a calling card on a cellphone? Are there any plans left that don't include long distance?
I'll make my guess in two words - "International calls."
Either that or he's trying to hide those 1-900/976 calls from his gf/wife.
$2.99/min doesn't last long...
haha na guys, i'm calling international. much cheaper to use calling cards than to dial straight. i'm still at school, and i tried what you said, didnt seem to work, but i'll try it again once i get home. btw, its the type of calling card where my number is saved with them, so i call the card, and it automatically asks me for the number i wish to dial thanks
omar
Well the same dialing suggestions apply. Whatever you dial on your phone manually needs to be inputted using a 'w' for anything entered manually or a 'p' for a pause, which sounds like what you need. You can put multiple 'p''s for longer pauses like: 1234567890ppp12345 which would give you roughly a 6 second pause.
You can also try inserting commas, e.g:
18007777777,,,0119991234567
But I don't think you can tap a contact phone number and have it inserted mid-dialing stream. If the numbers you are calling will always use the calling card I would just save the calling card sequence as part of each of their numbers.
My personal recommendation is to use SunnySoft calling card and, if you are in the US calling internationally, GorillaMobile.
I'm originally from the UK and call the UK a LOT on my cellphone.
This combination makes it totally painless, just have the international contacts in the phone book as a regular contact (preceded by +44 in my case) adn just press dial. All completely seemless and Waaaaayyyy cheapper than AT&T (even reduced rate) International calling.
Just my 2c
This program could help solve the problem for you.
You can store you calling card and pin with this. Then, you can use contacts and select any phone number and you will see a "Call with calling card" on it.
I use this extensively.
Hope this helps

Very cool. Thanks so much for the binaries.
I think the source can be found here:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb158783.aspx if anyone needs to tweak it. I went ahead and installed the signature (pulled a copy off the CAB in PK7 format), but I don't think it's required.
I've wrestled with it for a few days before I found a post claiming contention with the WM version of Google Maps. Sure enough, after uninstalling GMaps and and uninstalling and ReInstalling the callingCard cab, all worked well. I can live without GMaps.
Contrary to the doc, you can place symbols along with letters in your pin. Since I have to enter two pins with my card mine looks something like:
12223334567#pp1234#
That enters the first PIN (Account number) # then two pauses. Then it enters the second PIN (PIN) and #. I think reboots are required between regedits for this to work properly.

Hello,
Thank you autosoori and Dan. I've added a very quick and dirty configuration GUI to it (its been a while since I've done any C++ programming to decided to use C# instead - apologies for the rubbishness on my part, but you will require .NET CF). The GUI is launched from the context menu in the Contacts list. Context sensitive help is provided within the app. Changed DLL so that device reboot is NOT required when registry changes are made.
I've only tested it on my Trinity running AX3L's WM6 ROM. Plan on adding support for multiple CC vendors (wife uses several calling card companies depending on destination). Apologies for the lack of clipboard support on edit controls.
Two files:
CallingCard.dll
CallingCardEdit.exe
I've wrapped them in a cab file. Alternatively, copy the two .exe's from zip to the original CallingCard's install dir; add a regstring in HLCU\Software\Microsoft\CallingCard called "ConfigApp" with the value being the full path to CallingCardEdit.exe; restart device.
Cheers
it works fine at my SX66 WM6, but only works with contact Menu than any other GUI .
hope for more functions
Changes requested
Hi,
My previous username was a bit non-random (for obvious reasons!), so I've changed it. Anyway, tell me what changes you want and I'll see if I can fit them in. If anyone wants the source, I can mail it to them.

I installed it and it's works fine, but today stopped work... the link appears, but I can't call with it. I tried to install it again... the same...
any idea?!
Here is a big problem I have with this CAB when used with GoogleMaps. If I install CallingCard AFTER GoogleMaps ... no Context menu for CallingCard appears in Contacts.
If I install CallingCard BEFORE GoogleMaps ... both GM and CC context menu appear, but when I select something like "Call work using calling card" it tries to use GoogleMaps instead
GREAT Application / New Features
GREAT JOB!!!
Thanks a lot !
works very well !
is there a way to use it with the call shortcuts for fast dialing ("numérotation rapide" in french) ?
it would be a very very very nice feature !!!
other options (less important, but pretty nice) :
1. ability to dial # after the "dial number"
2. in settings : ability to choose "0 secs" on each menu (pre-pin pause and pre-dial Pause)
Thanks in advance

GREAT Application / New Features
I havent reviewed this app for a long time - apologies. I've moved calling card provider to one that gives me a local number for each of my international contacts - nice!
Anyway, if someone desperately needs some work on it, I will try to fit it in - let me know.
Phil82de: I noticed the problem with Google Maps. I will try to look into it.
samerweb: Again, I'll see what I can fit it. What exactly do you mean by call shortcuts? If you mean phone Quickdials, then you could save the number that is actually dialled directly as a contact. Can you clarify.
Thanks.

[Q] Problem with sending SMS and SMSC setting on Froyo

Hi all,
I tried to research my problem but I can not find any help.
Here is what I found by my experiment for this weekend.
Problem: On Froyo ROMs, I can receive SMS but CAN NOT send sms. MMS and 3g Internet is working fine as well as voice call.
Question: How do I set SMSC on Froyo, or is there way to fix this?
My findings after experiments:
1. Everytime I flash, regardless the types of a Rom wheather they are modified or origianl or Froyo or Eclair I can not send sms but able to receive. All the other functions of 3G internet and mms seems to be fine after APN setting.
2. On Eclair and Froyo I have tried type *#*#4636#*#* and went to phone info section, typed the SMSC number (that is 0430004010, I'm in Australia using Three hutchison ) pressed update and refreshed but everytime if i going back to testing page, the Input section is empty -> some reason the SMSC number does not get saved. I tried put +61430004010, then it will tell me "error update" whereas the 0430004010 will not show me any message
3. On Eclair, Message -> setting -> Text Message (SMS) Setting has " Message Server" section. I typed +61430004010 and then all of the Roms able to send SMS. This was the fix for my problem on Eclair.
HOWEVER, on Froyo, some reason this section is not available. As there are only two section available "Delivery reports" and " Manage SIM card messages"
4. I have typed **5005*7672*+61430004010# on phone number pad, code rejected...
I have searched the this forum and other forums too.. No one came up with solution apart from SMSC number. But it seems to me that I can't save the number if I go testing page by typing *#*#4636#*#*. Is there other ways to do this ? or have I done something stupid and missed obvious mistake (as usual ) ???
Any thoughts or comments I would really appreciate
Cheers
I have had the same problem, I tried to put it back to default setting, it works
Or go to drakaz forum, you can find help. Good luck!
Could not send SMS on Froyo
Hi!
I have M110S, just updated to Froyo (SL28), and couldn't send sms. The sms center number is correct (checked via SKT Admin menu), and SOMETIMES I could sent from 1 to 4 messages, but no more. I suppose it's possible right after writing the SMSC number, but not every time. Does anybody have the solution?
Have a root, if needed. It was no problems with Android 2.1 before.
Thanks!
BR, Yan.
I have the same problem. I am on XWJS3. Update error and no possibility to send sms

OK, I managed to fix this. I'll post the answer because this was buried deep and is a pain.
Answer is here:

The relevant text is below. One thing I'd say is that the link is a bit vague on how to do the conversion. You need to put your SMSC number in the page, clear the rest of the info and press convert. You then need to ignore the numbers after 11.
For example, my vodafone +447785016005 goes to 0791447758100650110000910000AA00, which shortens to 079144775810065011. Go to the *#*#4636#*#* menu and put that in SMSC and hit update. Messages now send!!!. Hopefully I can save someone else the grief I've had all day...
"
to update the SMSC in android,
the number first need to be encoded
please use below url to encode the SMSC
http://www.twit88.com/home/utility/sms-pdu-encode-decode
for example, if your SMSC is number is +4531300000,
after encode, it is 0691541303000011
put this in the info page, and it will work.

Hey, so I've been having the same problem with my shinny new stock LG G2x that I recieved as an easter present. I realize that its not the same phone as in the thread, and its not rooted, but its still running 2.2.2 Android so I assumed the ideology would be the same, I'm on a foreign exchange in Italy and I've been usin TIM (smsc +393359609600) and I've been having no luck using the converted PDU or just putting in the number using the *#*#4636#*#* or the **5005*7672*[number] methods in my phone settings when I click refresh next to the smsc a PDU number comes up, 002B003300390033003300350039003600300039003600300030, in the text box, so I'm assuming my phone needs a PDU number for the smsc, but what number I still don't know and was hoping you could help.
For me, the much simpler and robust solution using AT commands worked flawlessly.
There is AT+CSCA command which does exactly this: setting SMS service number. Example usage:
Code:
AT+CSCA?
+CMS ERROR: 330
AT+CSCA="+380910440601",145
OK
AT+CSCA?
+CSCA: "+380910440601", 145
OK
This should work on virtually every device, not nesessarily Android one. You just need to connect to its console in modem mode, as usual with all AT commands.

How to get rid of number formatting?

In here we use ten digit mobile numbers (excluding the ISD code) and there is no dash or gap in between, but with Moto X obviously there is number formatting, callers number look like XX-XX-XXXXXX, both in dialer, SMS app, everywhere basically. It's okay with the saved contacts I have but for unknown numbers it's very awkward and hard to remember at one look. So I was wondering if there is a way to remove this stupid formatting? It will be really great.
I remember in Samsung there was some sort of CSC file editing used to do the trick, but no idea about X.
Thanks in advance.
PS : The model is a XT1052 btw.
