what do u mean by dont have gps? Gps signal, gps software, ...?
no u didnt "f" up. Im sure u still have gps, hardreset is just like a system restore back to factory settings/rom cooker settings.
on teh main screen it takes me to telenav maps instead of telenav GPS. i have the basic drive to/search/maps/tools options but then it asks me to upgrade to GPS navigator. before the hard reset i had the GPS navigator.

ok, so I am not familiar with telenav software so I will be no use for u. U can try to launch the software through the .exe file. Try to locate where the software is installed, locate the exe launcher and try to run it.
i had AT&T maps exe in there. i guess AT&T forces it's own files after you reset. i went to to telenav website and downloaded telenav.exe in hopes of bringing it back onlt to find out that telenav.exe is the same **** as at&tmap.exe, they only change the brand. so now i'm sitting here pissed.
i've had the phone for 2 months bought it w/o a plan (on ebay) because i'm not looking forward to have a freaking contract. latley it's been laggy so i did a hard reset. I should mention that i never paid for the GPS navigator which i just found out that it costs you $9.99 a month. so i'm totally confused right now... how did i have the GPS navigator w/o paying for it...and how is it gone?

I am wrong person for this questions. I am from Europe so I dont know anything about AT&T. But I suggest u start reading some info about flashing custom roms. The official rom I had on my phone was too laggy and after couple of months I forced myself to flash a custom rom and now I am very satisfied. Its a lot quicker, I dont have useless app that I dont need anymore.
^^^ thanks for the insight. any help is still a help...nah mean?

When you do a hard reset everything is just reverted back to factory settings( the way it came out of the box) If you soft reset before customization it eliminates all the AT$T bloatware which includes AT$T navigator. Navigator is just an AT$T program, it does not erase your GPS capabilities. You just need to download and correctly set up new GPS software and it should work with tweaking. Hopefully this is helpful
Ok uninstall Telenav Maps from your phone. Go to start, settings, system tab, remove programs. After you do that go to:
ota.telenav.com/att/tnn on your phones browser click on DOWNLOAD
go through setup and the pin number will be the LAST FOUR of your phone number hope this helps.

How long are you waiting? Sometimes it takes 30 minutes for me to get a fix. But if I start one of those programs then drive home, I get a fix faster.

Yeah, wait for it to get a lock in the other test programs, before trying to use the full blown Nav softwares.
Yeah. My mistake it's V1.
The most I've waited is 10/15 minutes. But It's really not even worth it for me to do that since that nullifies the convenience of having a phone with GPS.
Plus, how can I be sure that my phone has a GPS lock?
satellites will turn green if you are using htc_gps_tool
In addition, you should download the latest updates with quickgps as well before running those tools. I usually have to download quickgps, open gps tool with the appropriate settings, open tomtom then close tomtom, download quickgps again, open gps tool with appropriate settings again, then open tomtom to get a fix less than 5 seconds on a cold start. I got it down to a T.

oh yeah forgot to tell you. If you are using gps tool do not hit the x button before you open your gps software because the program closes rather than minimizes, which defeats the purpose of using it to begin with.
I tried all those things.
I let GPS Tool run for about an hour and still never got a fix. Thanks for your help though.
If I go back to 6.0 would it work again?
let it run for a few minutes then open your gps software without closing gps tool. I don't think I can get a fix either without gps software being open.

Bear in mind, GPS is an acronym for "Global positioning satellite" Key word there being SATELLITE, are you even going out side to try to get a signal? See, if you're in a big building, full of lead paint, there's no way to get a signal through that, try doing it again outside, in an open field, on a sunny day, and see if you have a different result.

Yeah. I'm not stupid. I know how it works.
If I can't get a fix sitting in my car then there's really no point. I only use it for driving directions.
This may end making me switch to iPhone 3G because I'm getting sick of HTC. I love the customization but I just need a phone that works. I pay too much money for this. This is getting ridiculous.

I really don't understand why you cannot get a fix using 6.1 roms. I offered all the advice I could give you. You said you use google maps, correct? If I open google maps on my device without gps being on It can still read my current position. This is just extremely odd...

Why are you blaming HTC for this? You're not running an HTC ROM or even an AT&T ROM, you're running a ROM cooked up by somebody else and then blaming the manufacturer of the hardware for it. There are lot's of people with fully functional GPS on the Tilt.
You can go to the iPhone if you want, but keep in mind that there aren't any programs yet for the iPhone that give you turn by turn directions. You might have to wait a while for that brand spankin new iPhone to be able to use its GPS.

I have a TILT - You can see the ROM I am running in my signature line. I get a fix in less than a minute and use the TOMTOM ALL the time.
The ONLY problem I have on this ROM is that I have to push the power button twice to get the screen to come on. Other than that - EVERYTHING else works a treat.
Get the iphone if you want - but there are MANY things that it cannot do that you may miss.

What redio version are you using?
I've been running Dutty's Diamond V1 for about a week now and the GPS works for me. Depending on the radio your using it may take several minutes to get a GPS fix, but it does work for me and others.
I just flashed Radio 1.65.24.36 ( found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=398177 ) and it takes several minutes to get a fix the first time after a soft reset, but after that it get a fix very fast.
Good luck... Let us know how it works our for you.
Hi,
Im new with my tilt and i dont know how to enable my gps.
How do I enable it?
first off, DO YOUR RESEARCH! 2nd, you can't manually turn it off or on, software turns it off/on as needed
?
I not sure what do you mean by that... ATT charges a fee for the service, not sure that's the case.

Only if you want to use their pre loaded nav program that they include with the phone for turn by turn directions.
The GPS uses whatever software you have on the phone that calls upon it (as long as it's setup properly, com4, 9600 buad BTW) It's part of the phone and ATT just thinks you will pay them the use their software. Personally I like Google Maps, but you can load the TomTom software on it then buy the the maps and not pay ATT a dime in monjthly fees.
I was only on the stock ATT ROM for about 3 days before I was so mad at its poor performance that I unlocked the phone and flashed to a new ROM and Radio.
There is a TON of good info on this board, the search button is your friend.
Hey guys,
I've been trying to get Googlemaps GPS to work on my shiny new Diamond, but Telus seems to have locked GPS to only work through Telus Navigator.
Googlemaps just searches for satellites forever, even outside.
Anyone know if there's a way around this?
Thanks,
-Michael

Surely not, I can't believe an operator would do something so crass (even if they could do it at all).
Try getting a fix in your Navigator program, and when it has done so, and while it's still running, hit the home key (as in hard home key) and run up google maps. You will still have your navigator app running in the background, still holding its fix, so hit Use GPS in google maps and you should get a fix instantly. If you still don't, get back to us, as a setting or two will have gone awry.
Yeah, but then I have to pay for Navigator, which kinda defeats the purpose =)
Sorry, the way I understood your first post, I thought you had Navigator, and so far you could only get your GPS to worked with it.
You need to make sure your GPS settings are in order... there are loads of tips around this forum on how to best set it up for a number of different scenarios, and I'm not going to add to them again, but if you search around, you will find the settings you need and I'm sure you'll be up and running in no time.
Hello and welcome to the world of telus diamond.
I have a Diamond from Telus, and I've gotten the GPS to work without even considering thinking about paying for Navigator. I use a little application called Efficasoft GPS utilities, and it can usually get me a fix in under 2 minutes. Then if i need to use google maps, I just open it up, and WHAM-O - instant location.
for the record - GPS is NOT DISABLED by default in Telus Diamonds. It just doesn't work very well.
That sucks a lot.
Stupid Telus.
Well hopefully we'll get some great chefs working on the radio, ROM etc, and the GPS won't be so bad in the future. But as of yet, the Multitudes of ROMs out there aren't for our CDMA Diamonds. As far as I know, we're all stuck with the default ROM for now.
I have a Telus Diamond working just fine with Google Maps & Google Navigator!
Didn't even have to change any settings...
Leave the GPS set to "Using system GPS setting".
Go outside and give it a minute to locate.
It doesn't work too well indoors
That's really strange.
I've decided that Telus is retarded. I can't even download Navigator to my phone ("navigator coming soon...") leading me to believe that maybe Telus just doesn't want to supply Ottawa with GPS at all. Even running the HTC GPS Tool I can't detect any satellites.
Lame.
try GPStest. its floating around here somewhere.

Well, it seems to be working now.
On a whim, I tried running the HTC GPS Tool again and it found a bunch of satellites, and now Googlemaps GPS works beautifully.
No idea what happened.
my google maps works great now too!

Ok, I have never used the GPS feature on my Kaiser(Once a Tilt) till now. I have never needed to cause I didnt have a data plan. I used the routers at school and my house for internet. I got TT7 and I got a data plan cause TomTom is amazing. My GPS doesnt like to work. TomTom says their is no Device Detected. QuickGPS fails. The HTC GPS tool fails.....how can i troubleshoot my gps? Just a point in the right direction would help. (FWI, HD_III_OPAL WWE, 1.65.24.36)

Fails in what way? The TyTN II I have, works ok with the version of Tomtom Navigator it came with but as TTN 7 isn't officially released (yet?) as an upgrade, all I can suggest is to go back to basics, perhaps trying the setup on my TyTN II in my sig. Otherwise maybe someone who's used TTN 7 on the TyTN II can advise you. Do a search in the Kaiser software forum, there were lots of GPS related posts in there.
I got it to work, my GPS settings were incorrect. Yea and TT7 works...I just downloaded the one free map that was close by, if I need to go anywhere else I will copy the maps from my "Official SD Map Card"

It depends which Kaiser and where it was bought. The HTC Original TyTN II sold here in the UK came with TTN 6.032 on CDROM in the box but just like with the version you have it only allowed free download of one 'city' map. Any additional maps had to be bought and the number that went with the map could only be used on that device.

The Kaiser's GPS receiver is integrated in the phone and doesn't need anything network-related to function (so yes, it's free in itself). It will give any program that wants it the current position, speed, heading etc of the phone.
I.e. there was no point in you "not using the GPS because you didn't have a data plan".
Then what might require a data plan or paying something is the program in question. There are 2 types of programs, those like Google maps or MS Live that are free to download and use, but DO need a data connection as they will download the map data from the net on request while navigating.
The other type like TomTom, MioMap etc do NOT need data as they store the entire maps locally on the memory card, however they are payware so you have to buy them in the first place.
hello all.
no matter what the wifi doesn't want to come on in the comm manager. Even if it's clear storage booted. And gps as well doesn't work. what do I need to change/replace/repair?
any help appreciated
mines is doin the same exact thing but i can get wifi just no gps
You tried changing the rom or radio?
thats my next stop im shoppin for a good one now
I found quickGPS stopped working (continually failed to update and said it had never been run) after I updated the installed version of TomTom Navigator from 6 to 7 recently. In the end a hard reset and reinstall of TTN 7 fixed that. It was a simple process for me as my setup is standard other than the addition of TTN. If you want to resolve it by fiddling around with registry entries and cabs etc, then we need to know what changes were made immediately before the problems arose.
I think it may be a hardware issue more than software.
also kaiser tweak installs about 50% of the time when doing a hard reset. it can't find 1~temp file or so..
I think i'll just deal with and move to the X10/android. Windows doesn't care anymore and i'll never buy an apple product so android it is..
BTW, where can I buy a mainboard for the tytnII?

If you've got the money to splash out on a new phone then that's one option but why not save yourself some cash and try to get what you have working properly by spending as little money as possible first?
BTW, where can I buy a mainboard for the tytnII?

There you are keen to spend loads of money again. If it's just a mainboard that's required then you're best bet is to find a TyTN II which has failed through some cause other than the motherboard and use it for parts. By all means check prices with your HTC repair centre but it won't be cheap new.
Now, this is something I should have mentioned from the word go, in order to provide any sort of meaningful assistance, we need to know what ROM/Radio and SPL is on the device now and have any changes to these occurred? If you don't know how to find this out, check the xda-wiki for further info and may the force be with you. You mention wifi and quickGPS in the subject yet GPS (ie the navigation application itself) in the content, which is it?
I just have the ATT software that came with the tilt. I don't have a backup phone and have no experience with Romming so i've put it off. Maybe I should look into and give it a go...maybe that will fix my wifi/no quickGPS connection.
I think I do want to get the X10 because of the rez and screen and keep the Tilt as a backup.
thanks for the help.
Time to call AT&T if reading the wiki and hard resetting fails

You haven't mentioned what network you're connected through but if it's not AT&T (ie someone has unlocked the phone), then you will have some problems with the default ROM. If you do use it with AT&T then if you've already read all the relevant xda-wiki pages here related to the Tilt (it has its own page and you should definitly read it) and are still getting the problems you've described even after a hard reset (try the D Pad button method), why not see what AT&T have to say about things? I suspect a hard reset will fix it though if there have been no changes to the ROM/Radio or the SPL and you're with AT&T.
Internal GPS problems
I have also problems with the internal GPS of my TyTn II.
I changed the housing of my TyTn II because the old one was pretty trashed.
Now when I have new housing, the GPS doesn't work anymore.
Everything else is working just fine except that damn internal GPS.
I've tried three different navigation software which I have in my phone's storage card, TomTom 7, Garmin and McGuider. No hope, the GPS is not working.
McGuider can find the internal GPS automatically but none of those navigation programs are able to get GPS fix. I've tried Quick GPS and HTC GPS Tool. Nope, doesn't work...
OK, what should I try next? Hard reset? Or just accept the fact and get another TyTn II?
Well, maybe my TyTn II would still work with external GPS but I wouldn't like to a) purchase it and b) carry it with me.
