Just to say... Thank you! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi there!
I know there aren't many women in this forum, usually this type of advanced gadget is "seen" by most as man-only gadget, especially in the country where I live.
Anyways, I come here from time to time to read the news and I am very very impressed with the kind of knowledge you people have, it amazes me the things you have have archieved.
I never thought I would post here because I have nothing to contribute, but I decided to come here and say THANK YOU!
Thank you for offering and sharing with me (and others) this knowledge, keep up the good work!
Sorry for posting something non sense.

Ya, i read the guide and used the dutty's rom... i dont know.. i kinda liked it, the background is kinda "manish" but... its a cellphone, lol i wish there was a more of a female theme tho... but its all right!
I noticed it is a lot faster than the one that came with the kaiser so i am happy, I like this kind of things, you know... cellphones and stuff...
I was just a great experience for me, and its being really great.

Not to sound sexiest, But I'm glad you posted, women should be more interested in science and math and technology. But Societies shun that and push women into role of homemaker and if you want a job, become and English Teacher or something. I've found women often times can solve complex problems faster than men with the same skill set, simply because their mind works differently.

Hi riguti, please feel free to post on these forums... Your female input is sure needed and very welcome!
I'm sure your ideas might help someone!

Hi Tseten, actually no... in Brazil we only speak portuguese, a lot of people are trying to study spanish because of the "mercosul", but well... I have some doubts if mercosul is really doing any difference for our economy...

Somehow I am quite different from most people, I like technology, I like games and computers and cellphones. I was an user of the old Palm Treo, not a long ago I had a 680 that I absolutely loved. But then I saw the HTC Touch, with MSN! then I thought "OMG!! It has MSN!!", I am a heavy MSN user, i consider myself a chatterbox lol....
Then I started asking people about PDAs, and I decided to buy a Kaiser, it was kinda buggy and it never really worked the way I wanted, but at least I could play some of my favourite games from the Palm (think astraware). Then I found this forum and after installing dutty's thing MSN worked, so yay! I am Happy.
My opinion is WM lacks the simplicity and the "fast" response of the Palm OS, however WM is a lot more advanced and it has a lot more resource than the old palm. So I am still trying to perfect my skill...
Anyways, I don't know if women are better or worse than man, but we are surely different in some aspects especially when it comes to the cognitive approach...

I do not have lots of ideas I just think that the user interface is not really appealing... For me it would be best if there was a way to really customize WM so we could have the programs categorized in a different way other than clicking start or pressing the windows button...
It would be nice if there was a way to have all the programs listed on the screen (divided by category), for easier access with the finger, maybe a way to navigate thru the pages using the finger...
And the contact list is always bad, WM should remember the most used phone numbers and just have a simple screen with photos and bigger icons, where you press it with your finger and it just dials...
Think of a bigger icons on the screen, instead of a list (or maybe at least have the ability to change from list view to icon view) and a way to scroll thru pages using the finger, maybe even sort by "most used" and "alphabetical list", just touch and dial, you know?
I believe they should focus more on using the finger other than using stylus, having small icons and small buttons on screen is not really helpful for fast access.
Maybe its only me... Maybe its because I am not really used to this hi-advanced phones, but thats what i think!

Do me a favour [NSFW or Children]

Guys, I want to ask for a favour.
Ages and ages back I read about what I thought was an amazingly cool gadget.
We like gadgets.

I got speaking with the guy that invented this thing, and was mightily impressed. You'll be able to read my review soon... but this is the gadget:
The Alpha Grip:
It's a keyboard, compressed onto a gamepad like device. The keys are positioned around and under natural finger positions, according to usage and linguistic frequency; others are positions under the controller and used with rocker type switches.
It's difficult to describe, but the thing sits naturally in your hands and you have full keyboard access, in an exceptionally innovative, ergonomic design.
And, there's more - it also has a little trackerball that sits under your thumb position, so you can control both mouse and keyboard functions without ever taking your hands off the device.
It is complicated, and takes some getting used to, but when you are used to it, it's amazingly neat and geeky. I used to play all of my FPS games with a nostromo N52, but this thing lets you even further automate your gaming, macros and keyboard layouts. It's not quite the perfect game controller, but it's damn near close.
It is wired USB. Wires are baaad.
Unfortunately, it is not wireless or bluetooth etc, which is something I've spoken to the inventor about implementing. So, it's not quite ready for our phones yet, but as and when it is, wow.
However, I use it with an OQO mini computer and it's a perfect marriage, compact and highly productive (once you master the learning curve and get used to it). I guess you could use it with an xbox 360 and ps3 too, which would be cooool (although I've never tried). It emulates a standard USB Keyboard and mouse, so is highly compatible and doesn't use special drivers.
Anyway, enough blurb, I'm not selling this thing, I'm not even reviewing this thing here - you'll be able to read a full review from me eventually (and I'm in no way commercially connected or benefited from this).
However, my favour:
AlphaGrip, the company, have superb technical support and customer care. I like the product, I like the company. But you've probably never heard of either.
So: Yahoo have a competition on right now running between various small businesses that need more attention. I think Alphagrip needs and deserves this... so, have a look at the Yahoo page, and see if you think AlphaGrip deserves a vote. You don't have to buy the product, or even like it, but just decide if it deserves some of your mouse click love to get a gadget a bit more attention.
Gracias.
Yahoo Competition
V
PS. If you do buy one, tell Mike Willner, the inventor, that I sent you. I'll try to put in a good word for us and get us a deal.
EDIT: guys, I've just heard back from Mike, and he says that when you're buying the AlphaGrip, if you say that you're a member of this forum and write your XDA forums user ID in the comments section of the purchase page, you'll get $10 off the price.
And if you also mention that you've also voted on the Yahoo competition (quote something from his video interview to prove you've seen it), you'll get an extra $5 off! Go out and buy yourself a free lunch on Mike...
He said that they are certainly interested in doing a wireless adaptor or an all smartphone compatible version, so winning the competition will help get them the resources to do that. Hurry up and click already!
Guys, I want to repeat. I don't work for these guys, and aren't commercially linked to them in any way. I've just found Mike and his guys (and gals) to be a refreshingly helpful and conscientious tech company. They don't over inflate their claims, but make 100% solid and innovative stuff.
its got my vote.. im not a gamer but love me some gadgets, can see that thing being very useful
Thanks shogunmark!
I have to say that I'm quite a fan of non standard input devices. My all time favourite is the Microsoft Strategic Commander. If you've never seen one, it's basically the thing the little dude in Flight of the Navigator uses to fly the UFO. It kicks ass, but it's a bit too clever for it's own good. It actually has one axis assigned to flexing space/time, like too much Prince of Persia!
Day to day I tend to use the Nostromo n52 (not just for games, but general productivity work with appropriate macros, keyboard hooks and Windows PowerPro - my all time favourite app)
And I've also reviewed the Wolf Claw, which is more conventional, but useful for WASD users. I'm not a WASD fan personally.
BTW, I finally managed to spend some time with the Wii this weekend. It's not a particularly accurate input device, but novel - has anyone considered porting the open source Windows Bluetooth Input Interface to WinMob? It'd be cool to play doom on your phone on the Tube. Way to get shot in the head...

My brain overheats just thinking about the possibilities... you can picture the Taewanese design manager sitting at his desk, staring at a blank sheet of paper:
"Ok, Monday morning, what to do, what to do?
We need to think of a device that has 1% useful therapeutic design, 99% obvious sexual function. We've done massagers, infra red heaters, relaxation balls...
I know, The Knobbler. Reaches the parts other double ended stimulation devices cannot reach."

Hey guys, would any of you consider using the AlphaGrip or any of the above toys, including those for external application only?
One game pad I haven't owned is the Saitek Pro Gamer Command.
I played with it once on a display model and found it tacky and clunky. I much prefer the ergonomics of the Nostromo.
Do you guys ever use these things? Like I said, Nostromo is great for FPS, but you can also configure it to do stuff in productivity apps like PhotoShop, Word, VS2005, Winamp etc (although of course you can do that with pretty much any input device with appropriate software).

Ironic is it...I'm as geeky as a girl can get, and I have the hardest time finding a guy! The vast majority of you just aren't interested in a girl that is smart, makes a good living, would rather spend the day playing with an XBox than going shopping... but isn't drop-dead gorgeous with a sexy, hot body. Sad, huh? I work as a freelance programmer (have a popular ecommerce software package that I sell and support), set up my own home network, do a lot of beta testing and reviewing for other people, and so on. Like a fair number of geeks though, I didn't have great social skills growing up, didn't really fit in with girls my age. So always feel like I'm playing catch-up now.
Geez, this wasn't a topic I really expected to get into on here!
Ive recently started to develop a case of yellow fever. That seems to be your best bet if you are looking for nerdy and cute girl. However its a matter of taste, not everyone is into that.
As with all stereotypes, its not true 100% of the time, but its it has been for me so far.
A lot of us geeks got our first real social skills from forums like these.... that's not entirely a good thing, either. lol

You know, that's very true in my case. I've been networking online since the earliest days of the web and even before that on BBS's (anyone remember those?!) I was much more introverted and shy then, these days I am far more confident and articulate in large part due to all the years of throwing myself into the middle of discussions online. And yeah, it's a catch-22 for sure. I do think some guys are intimidated by me, not so much even that I am brainy, but because I do have opinions of my own and will argue for them. Not to the point of being argumentative by any means, and in a real fight I will almost always back down first...but I know I've thrown some guys off because they will make some statement about something political or such, and I'll just come right out with "Oh, I don't agree with that at all." For all that men will talk about wanting someone who is witty and intelligent, etc. I often find that they aren't sure how to handle it when they get it.
To quote my avatar....
"Whoa. A fat, sarcastic Star Trek fan. You must be a devil with the ladies."

Happy 4th! I was joking about the purpose of remembering our independence, and we came up with a new name for the fourth of july- F#ck England Day! Haha just a little joke, not trying to get flamed by the Brits. They were probably as glad to get rid of us as we were to leave them! Hehe anyways, Happy fourth to everyone!

Lame?
We Americans look forward to this day helping thin out the population due to high levels of alcohol and fireworks being mixed together by people from the shallow end of the gene pool.
I just love reading how people dressed up in full Budweiser attire lost a hand or two when they decided to put an M80 inside an empty beer can.

LAME??? You must be one left wing liberal. What do you know of the sacrifice of those me & women that gave us our freedom from tyranny? Nothing probably, but you enjoy the ability to voice your opinion without being hung for sedition, right?
The Independence Day is a wonderful, reverant holliday. A tiem to give thanks & show appreciation for the gift of freedom bestowed upon us by those willing to sacrifice life & limb to acheive it for every man.
But then again you do look kinda cute in you avtar there, so.... You get a pass.

Yes it's lame, because what purpose does it serve now? It gives a legitimate excuse to drink excessively party till the break of dawn and light **** on fire. So yes it's original purpose/intent was to honor our independence, but today in this society, it means nothing even remotely relevant to the original meaning to most of the new generations.

The People on the WP7 section.....

Hello everyone. I've been reading up on the WP7 section this week, and certain people over there are really angering me. Namely, "Wincape" RustyGrom" and "satshef". They are always boasting how great WP7 will be, while it may become a great thing when released we honestly don't know. Everytime someone brings Android up they go completely crazy and in some sort of "denial" thing that seems like an act of jealousy to me. Here is an example.

Yes, because Android is low-end phones, and is more considered a take on Symbian than iPhone, in the first place. Android's success is due to most devices it's sold on is cheap hardware

Now those for sure are total lies. Android was made to compete with iPhone, just like everything else is in America. These are the type of bashing comments they make when Android is mentioned. They never point out any benefits it may have, just negative things or negative assumptions.
I have nothing against any of the smartphone OS's out their since I have pretty much used all of them. So, this isn't really a big deal to me, but It just makes me mad a little bit. Android has many benefits, just like WM (which I loved), IOS and the others.
BTW: I recyled this thread from an old thread, so..... If it crashes and burns I didn't waste space
Great you edited this thread instead creating a new one!!!
You are making some progress here
Don´t take any comment as personal, remember we are more than 2 mill members and some of them, like me, show their love to WP7 and don´t give a cent for Android
You have to respect that, so move on and don´t make this affect your sensible llama heart...

There seems to be more drama and flaming in the Android forums than elsewhere. WinMo folks seem more uhh... civilized. Now I have not spent much time reading in the WP7 forums so I can't comment on that.

Oh, I know.... WM people are mello.... I still use it (did for years) But the WP7 people think they know all about it and it's gonna be better because of these "hubs" and everyones gonna be worshiping it..... They are so vicious..... I'm not one to defend a platform, or anything but it annoys me. Who cares who is on top or not. If you like it, your still going to use it regardless if it's popular ot not. It's just a phone
^^Amen to that. It all comes down to personal preferences. No need to be a jerk because someone uses a device or platform you don't like (even an iphone).

[Q] Can I say "Cheers" Even if I'm not British?

Haha, so this is an honest question.
Can I say "cheers" at the end of an email/post/or whatever, even if I'm not from the UK or Australia/New Zealand?
Or will people from around those parts judge me...? LOL.
I say yes! It can be used as 'Thank you' or 'Toast your health'.
Others could be Slante or even Bottoms Up, (as long as the person you're talking to isn't likely to think you're giving them an order).

Cheers.

You're Canadian, as part of the British Commonwealth of course you can say "Cheers" in fact you should use it as often as possible, along with "crickey" "crivens" and "bloody"
In return we will fit "Son of a gun" into as many conversations as possible (my great uncle moved to Canada and it did him the world of good, at 86 he had a heart attack so they fitted a pacemaker but I think they set it to turbo! He came over when he was 91, didn't look a day over 61, and didn't act a day over 21! Though all Canadian women I've met have been nutty as a fruitcake!)
I remember trading some stock through a US company, and the chap I was speaking with, from Texas I think, gingerly said "Cheers" at the end of the conversation, so it's not true that all Americans don't speak English

My cousin in Canada is probably as 'nutty' as you suggest, but had the good sense to leave the UK, marry a developers son and now lives in a bespoke, hand-crafted and beautiful home on the side of a mountain that they own, overlooking an amazing lake and away from the urban rat-race! I take the mickey out of her accent but to be honest, she pwned me, big-time!
(Her brother btw is the town doctor in a nice rural village where he keeps his own hours, goes skiing whenever he feels like it, has a home provided by the state, and whenever he meets one of the townsfolk in the street they invite him to dinner!
Am i jealous though....?

Haha, Juzz, it's funny because I do say "eh" a lot. Although I've never, ever, heard someone say "aboot". I've always wondered where that rumor ever came from... Nobody says it. Haha.
The worst is when Americans say "ruff" instead of "roof" lol, that grinds my gears.

That's weird, I just stumbled on an article a couple days ago about the study of accents and their development (now I wish I saved that link). Apparently the current british accent didn't evolve into what we know of it now until after the american revolution. So the american accent is how the british spoke before that change...
No! Because Apple has a patent on the British and won't allow them to patent words. But Apple did patent "cheers".
