Has anyone else got issues with the use of SD cards in their Alpine derivitive?
Like the card not showing as being there when you try to write to it or explore the phone with file explorer or ActiveSync?
Perhaps videos on the card stop whilst watching them with a file error or the like?
Mine does with all 4 different makes of card I have tried and I am wondering if this is a common fault.
Yep its a very common fault.
I think everyone has the same experiences. (Me included)
what version ROMs do you have ?
there is an upgrade available if yours is the origonal, the upgrade will help a bit.
have a look here ... http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=25801
But read to the Third page as "Pug" psted a more up to date package
I am using Pug's Radio version 1.03 hybrid, but continue to suffer!
I have downloaded a SD Card benchmarking utility, my card is showing as 4.7x, but I don't know how that relates to manufacturers quoted speeds. It is either painfully slow or uses a different scale!
1GB SD from Transcend
Some ppl said the Transcend 512 SD works well on the 2i, just wonder if the 1 GB will work as good as the 512...
Any comment will be appreciated
Does anyone know where to get the 4 GB SD-Cards cheapest?
And what branches are there?
A-Data and Pretec i know, but are there more?

I bought a Transcend 256mb 80X card an my XDA IIi has worked flawlessly since with no lock-ups what-so-ever.
I can't speak for the 1mb though!
This seems to be a power issue, the Transcend cards are very low voltage and ampage. My old SanDisk card would fail every time a network function took place, and they are high power drains.
I bought a OEM (white labelled) 1GB MMC and use it on my IIi. Everything is fine so far...
Is there any difference between MMC and SD in terms of IIi flaws?
:?:
Only SD cards are supported by the XDA2i, although if you use the backpack addon i think you can use MMC, but not without the addon.
Someone told me once that the IIi works best with a fast SD card like the Kingston Elite Pro. I changed to that and all my problems when away. TomTom5 stopped locking up as well.
Kingston SD Card
Are there any other users who have used the Kingston Elite Pro SD Card. I have been looking around for a while, and the Kingston Elite Pro 1 GB / 512 MB seem to be a single layered card.
I also wanted to confirm that when using a Sandisk SD card, I am having lockup's. If I take the card out of the slot, the XDA2i begins to respond again. Though I must admit I havent tested it exhaustively.

You mean CF not MMC. SD and MMC both work in SD slots, but not vice versa.
CF type 2 is the slot on the VGA backpack.
SD Card issue
I understand all SD cards work.. I was trying to find the compatability of the same with Tomtom Navigator 5. I understand from the earlier posts that a multi layer card causes lockups. The transcend 80X card works fine. I was inclined towards buying a Kingston Elite Pro and hence the question...

hiya all. . i'm recieving my Xda 2i in about an hour.. just wondering which SD memory works best.. i read a few posts and quite frankly being quite confused,, was about to order a scandisk SD 1 gb card.. but i read somewhere ppl saying this is bad??
is that true?
thanks..
The Sandisk is not the best one. I have one and it causes lockups being a multilayer card. The transcend 80x works fine ( what i gather from different forums ). The Kingston Elite Pro also has some very good feedback. I am purchasing a 1 gb Kingston elite pro today. Sandisk is a no no... [/quote]

I cannot browse Ebay at work so couldnt confirm. But you could find the card on this url:
http://www.epcbuyer.com/products.asp?recnumber=5761
Its around £44 on this site.
I tried to find a deal at ebay from home yesterday. They are around £39 and are being shipped from HongKong. I dont know when we will receive it. There could be excise + other charges. I am not sure.
hmm.. well on this guy whom is shipping from HK is selling it at 25 quid including shipping.. .trouble is i want it asap .. Heh... buying from him seems like 20 quid cheaper.. howeber have to wait for about 10 days or so.. . so he sez.. not to mention customs and duties.. ....
i just might shell out 44 quid then...

Well you also avoided the same trap... I almost fell into. Though it says £12 (Card) + £13 for postage, but you didnt have a look at the mandatory insurance which stands at £13. In all its around £38 + Other expenses. Not to mention the pain of getting it from hongkong...
Good decision at last...
Guys, I know this has been asked before - I just cant seem to find a conclusive answer. But here goes;
Will a SDHC 4GB SD card work on my Blueangel with Helmi's BA WM2k5 AKU3.5 (v.1.4 )? Has anyone got one working?
Hi J_Hutt
I have a 4gb SD card in my BA and it works just fine.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital_card
Untill reading your question and the wikipedia page above, I wasn't aware that my 4gb card was an SDHC card. My card does not show an SDHC logo, but from that wikipedia article it seems all cards >2gb are SDHC (1024byte blocks as opposed to 512).
We are of course at the mercy of wikipedia here though, its information is not always perfect.
Thanks for that, tho I gather the SD"HC" cards are different to the standard SD and not all devices are compatible (same form factor, just something about transfer rate / capacity / Fat32 file system etc)
Is anyone using a SDHC card in their WM% Blueangel?
As I can understand, there are some 4GB SD - non SDHC cards. Google for TS4GSD150. Or read this: http://www.hjreggel.net/cardspeed/index.html#special-sd.html - section "SD and SDHC Card Size Overlap"
Yeah I am aware of that (non SDHC 4GB cards) Situation is that I bought a 4GB SD (not SDHC) card online and it was DOA (not just in my BA, but in readers etc)
Supplier has just emailed me offering to replace it, but do I want a SDHC at no extra cost blah blah....and I am thinking, why not if it will work.
So, again...has anyone used a SDHC in their BA?
You can get it, and if it doesn't work on BA you will have a good excuse to buy a new smartphone...

4Gb SDHC card doesn't work
Not that long ago, I bought a 4Gb SDHC card and not knowing about SDHC (thinking it was another marketing term) and even though it was working fine in the cheap card reader on my desk, it did not do anything in my BA.
Went back to the supplier and switched it for a regular SD card and that one has been working fine since.
SDHC cards
SDHC cards are 3d generation SD card technology,
They have some abilities,
1 to 32 gb capacity
Improved read and write speed,
Data stability,
Content encryption etc..
This technology requires hardware support which device will use, there is no software support. ( Except USB 2.0 cardreader used computers. )
Don't buy SDHC cards, there is already normal 4 gb SD card from SanDiskand kingston, and future 8 gb will coming.
Thx.

That's a bit shortsighted IMHO, 32 gb isn't all that much these days.
i found this when i was searching. If anyone found a regular 8 GB SD card please post it here, i'll be tempted to buy it for sure because it seems like thats the best way to go. Overall if you do get the BA to accept this type of card it wont be compatible in other older devices thats currenly out now. So i think buying a SDHC Card isn't a good investment right now.
But please don't let me change anyone's mind, I'm just looking for a good investment right now.

SD Card info ... from the Windows Mobile Team ...
Everything you wanted to know about SD Cards, but were afraid to ask:
http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2007/01/12/everything-you-want-to-know-about-sd.aspx
The SD Standard used by the PPC phones at present does not support larger than 2Gb by definition. However, some 4Gb SD Cards will work in the BA, but this depends solely on the block-size which is being used by the cards.
Your mileage may vary ... try before you buy, and if you do find a 4Gb or an 8Gb one which works (and gets 8Gb of storage - not overlapped!!!) then post the brand/make/model here, as I'm sure many people would love to take their music collection along - a.la.ipod style ...
I have a knockoff SanDisk 4Gb from ebay that works in my BlueAngel (wm2003SE)
I also have the Transcend 4gb 150X card that worked fine. The card itself has problems, which is why I swapped to the knockoff.
beware that some usb readers are not able to deal with 4gb SD cards (notably the Lexar 12 in 1)
If your reader is IDing the card as 900 and change MBs your reader is struggling try another.
I have had no problems with the HTC unit and the cards. The transcend was messing up the same way in the device and every reader I threw at it...
Good luck

Incorrect, I just posted about this. SDHC format can handle much more storage than 32 GB, however there are physical theoretical limits to flash memory, just like there are those for CPU's. My post

There is no incorrect comment.
SDHC is an 3 generation NandFlash technology.
Now, The limit is 32 gb at this time,
Mean of limit is Secure, stable and usable.
May be some firms reached this limit (however you know more than 32 gb I don't now) but not this time.
There is only 8 gb cards on sale and 16 and 32's are coming in 2007-8.
Why i write 1-32 gb?
Because, there is no 512 mb SDHC but well 1 gb SDHC, you may find it.
What is SDHC, why not compitable with standart SD cards.
#1) Disk write and Read functions and commands are changed, New SDHC cards can write upto 6-10 mbps to disk and 50-80 mbps Read from disk. ( I sad disk them, they have no unique name ). This differents come from his hardware structure -->> I/O Busses, Voltage levels, frequenties and other reasons.
#2) They have a chip, he manage reading and writing operations, they have no processor, may you say DCU ( Data Controlling unit, that is mine ID ).
#3) They developed with NandFlash 2.0 technology, This is third of Nano Sized Memory blocks technology. ( You may find somethings about it ).
At the and.
SDHC cards are not compitable with SD 1.0 and 1.1 platforms, not like bluetooth 1.0 and 2.0, there is no old format support. ( No one has been sad yet )
if you want to buy SDHC, be sure the compatibility.
Blueangel's SD 1.1 slots have 1.2/12 mbps speeds ( Write/Read )
"This is not maximum speed of SD 1.1 they reached 2.1/25 mbps on USB 2.0 cardreaders."
The numbers may be some wrong, but be sure they are nearly values.
And lastone.
CPU's are not simple units. And they have so much parts.
You may find somethinks like of this comments in the Internet.
Just search it.
Come on ppl buy buy buy

Well perhaps "incorrect" was a bit harsh. It all depends on where you get your info. here lists the ultimate capacity under the new memory addressing scheme as 2 TB. Where as here the maximum size is listed as 32 GB. Now I did mention that there are physical limitations of flash memory, and may not be able to reach the 2 TB limit, but under the SDHC standard, 2 TB is supported.

This is what I had read also. I had done some little investigation into this a few months back, so I'm no stranger to searching the web, and had done so back then and once again. With that said, the second link above actually had some new info. It lists SDHC readers as being backwards compatible. Where as what I had read sometime back, was that there were legal restrictions imposed by the SD group to prevent this. Perhaps this has changed now. Well I suppose I may be defending a bad premise, because to be honest, when I had originally searched about SDHC, I didn't come across the 32 GB limit. And I suppose I could have been more specific about what I was referring to in your post.
Regards,
Jason
Good but...
This is mine last post about SDHC.
32 is Maximum reached SDHC capacity at this time, 2 TB is only theorical limit.
When someone make 2 TB SDHC then you can say the upto 2 TB capacity.
May be 2 TB SDHC's will come in future, then we can talk about 2 tb.
This is an example:
Intel goes to 45 nm technology, and that give a way to 8 or more core processor and upto 3 ghz per core speed without Netburst technoloy.
"Can you say there is already 8 core processor with 24 ghz total speed?"
You sad:
"It lists SDHC readers as being backwards compatible"
1-I sad about cards, not readers.
2-I sad SD 1.0 and 1.1 slots are can not use SDHC cards, I didn't sad SDHC Cardreaders can not read SD cards.
I write somethings about SDHC, because someone can buy them, this tech useless for our PDA's, i want help people. Because
I'v got so much help here,
May we can use SDHC's in nexttimes with external adapters or converters as SD.
May be...

I wasn't correcting you when I said this, I was correcting my statement that there was no compatibility. I had read at one point that there was no backwards compatibility (for legal reasons), but it looks like they changed that. but I will say that technically there aren't any 32 GB SDHC cards either. It is just a matter of what the question is asking, what is the largest capacity in development vs. what is the largest capacity possible.

Jason
Hey guys i just bought the 8GB SDHC card and the flash drive reader/writer that comes with it.
It will take about two weeks in shipping for me so i'll keep you guys inform of the type and where i bought it from.
Hi!
I understand that HTC Kaiser (TyTN II) support SD 2.0 standard, which allow it to use microSDHC memory card.
Yesterday, I have found a Kingston 4GB microSDHC memory card at one retailer shop, I want to buy it. So I asked the storekeeper for a test by inserting the 4GB card into TyTN II card slot. The result, TYTN II do not recognize or see the microSDHC card from Kingston at all.
I have read in other forum that TyTN II can use Sandisk or Toshiba microSDHC card up to 4GB without the need of any driver of anything.
So what's the problem? My Kaiser use released ROM (WM6) and it work fine with 2GB microSD, but why it do not work with microSDHC?
Can any friend explain why? and can you help me get my TyTN II to work with 4GM microsSDHC?
Thank for advaice

Same here. And I also have tested the 8GB. Also worked fine.

It may not have been properly pre-formatted either, sometimes the factory format isn't perfect.
I also use 4GB Sandisk card. The only problem is it get's stuck (U can't remove it just by giving it a little push after wich it's supposed to pop out).
In some other thread there is a discussion of this problem and someone recommended "going round the edges with a paper clip" wich I didn't understand. Can someone who has solved the issue give me more details about the solution?
All in all 4GB Sandisk card seems to larger than normal.
I was about to buy a 4gb Kingston Micro SDHC on the weekend, but held off because my Sandosk 2gb isnt even half full.
It was a class 4 which i presume is faster than my Sandisk 2gb.
Im curios to know what the Kaisers actual sustained transfer rates are with the SDHC cards.
Imo, Kaiser will not be able to use full speed of the card even if it was 0.5 class =)) Higher class card only works faster through card-reader, not in the device or through Card Export.
I've also noticed, that my kingston is hard to get back from the device, but i think it is the problem of the slot cover - it really s*cks.

Is your Kingston a SDHC? And did you get a card reader with it?
When i had my HTC P3600i i found that whilst running TomTom6 off my microSD and selecting 6 types of POI it would hang as i beleived it would 'time out' as the data transfer rate was slower than allowed. This was using a Sandisk 1Gb MicroSD in a miniSD adaptor.
Hence why i am genuinely curious to know what is the actual sustained data transfer rate of the Tytn II.
Yes, it is microSDHC (I doubt you find microSD 4Gb large), cardreader was purchased separately. I'm almost sure, that inner kaiser controller will not be able to transfer data to main memory at rates close to the specified in the class description. Though, I also doubt, that you TomTom problem had anything in common with SD data transfer rate. I'm sure you were able to watch video from it (your card), and it is about 1500kbit/sec (HQ) - far more then needed to perform any searching operations. Practically, I've noticed, that copying files through cardreader is about 5 times faster than through CardExport and not sure this was device USB limitation.
After reformatting the 4GB Kingston micro SDHC card, it work OK!
Thank for advise! The shopkeeper thank me a lot, saying that if you don't tell me to format the card, I will never know!

see the third post from this very thread
I'm presently running Toflock WM6 and wanted to install the biggest possible SD card so I can put TT6 UK & Europe plus tons of other stuff without swapping cards.
I was advised in the Hima forum that there were SDHC patches which would enable SDHC. So based on this advice I just bought an Adata 8GB card.
I've tried several patches and nothing works, even the non-HC cards stop working and I have to re-install the Extrom prog to bring it back
So has anyone managed to get a class 6 SHDC card running yet ? If so with what rom etc.
Thanks
i am sorry to tell u this but SDHC is not possible on any Hima YET !!..i released 2 or maybe 3 Patches my self but none of them work...users cant even run 4GB and u bought 8GB..hope its refundable
Okay, I'll just have to keep an eye out for threads about SDHC updates.
In the meantime the Adata 8GB SDHC card will have to serve as a healthy sized flash drive to swap movies / mp3s with friends/family etc.

Yes, i'm sure!
It's a Transcend card
I've got an A-Data 4-Gb, pink stiker (it says: myflash, 150x turbo SD 4gb Adata) and it's working well (sure not at 150x, maybe 1x ). To be fair, I have tryed several ones diferent sizes and the bigger they are slower they work, not only on the PDA but in the PC as well.
Have you testet read/write access to the whole 4gb? As far as I know, you can use these cards, but you have no access beyond 2gb.
4GB CARD
I am working with Transcend 4GB Card and the speed is great , No problem at all.
I also use a Transcend 4GB SD and it works great. You can access the full 4Gb. I watch many tv series in my himalaya with tcpmp.
As I said full access to the 4Gb card. I used to travel with my 100Gb 2,5 USB HD, some times I thinks it's a shame there is no app to get acess to it through a kind o USB cable, wuold you imagine?
Its been a week since Ive been desperately searching with no luck!!!!!!!
I just baought a kingston 32gb class 6 micro sdhc but when ever i put it in my hd2 it just freezes up and as soon as I remove the card it works fine again. At first i though that it was a fake so I:
1)performed multiple tests,
2)reformated a 1000 times,
3)even putting 20gb of data just to make sure.
Turns out that it is authentic and it works perfectly on my girlfriend's htc BalckStone it also worked when I installed NAND (which i later removed due to insufficient memory).Ive been searching for weeks, I think its a windows mobile issue, any tips??
HD2 freezing with microsd
I have the exact same problem.
HD2 + 32Gb Kingston micro SD card (bought from ebay)
Freezes on card insertion. Unfreezes when card is removed.
Found any solution?
Do a google search for SD Formatter.
Try reformatting using that program.
Also, when you're reformatting, don't use the phone, use an external card reader or adapter.

If you ahve bought a 32GB SD card from ebay there is a very high probability that you have bought a FAKE 32 gb card.
If it was cheap its 100% a fake card.
These fake card are actually 1/2/4/8/16GB card but have been modded to report 32GB, some of them you can use but data will get corrupted as soon as you get near the real capacity. Some will just not work from the offset.
Stick your card into your pc via reader/adapter and run it through a drive scanning software and see if its got any bad sectors you will soon know if its fake or not.
The same issue with my 16gb microsdhc. On my friends Samsung Galaxy S it works, on microsd carder it works. But not on my HD2.
I had scanned my microsd with few scanners all of them shown that my SD is in perfect condition.
What about formating? What program should I use? And what formating options should be(file system and etc.)

Oh, yes it is. At least mostly true, if not even absolutely true.
I've been using a class 2 32 GB Sandisk micro SDHC card for a year now on my HD, and it will go into my Leo as soon as I get it. Absolutely no problem at all, of course.
It's also the one to use on the HD7 to get the maximum available storage memory.
It was quite expensive when I bought it, but it never bothered me, neither did the Sandisk Compact Flash cards I'm using with my goo old Canon EOS 350D camera.
Some Kingston memory card seem to have compatibility issues with some devices (I'm thinking about EeePCs, too, as it's a very frequently reported problem), but it may be essentially related to higher speeds, as those cards drain too much current. The symptoms are exactly the same : the device will sometimes boot when mains powered, but will crash as soon as you disconnect the mains plug, and won't boot at all from battery power.
The HD2 (and HD7, as it's exactly the same hardware) is known for not loving too much current consuming memory cards, so you'd be wise to stick to class 2 only, as it's supposed to be what HTC recommends.
If you still want to use class 4 or 6 cards... Then don't complain if it doesn't work.
And no, it is not "absolutely true". While the HD2 may not r/w any faster no matter the card, any class will work just fine.

What did you do to get it working then?

Easy. I always first format my cards using a card adapter and a windows machine.
I know for a fact that class 6 microsdhc 32GBs work. It's what I have in my phone now. I also use a 32gb class 2.
I'm using a Kingston card. I've formatted, the computer sees a mass storage device with 30.2 gb available. However it locks the phone up in the boot sequence. Any Ideas?

What program did you use to format it?
One recommended app, outside of the built-in windows app, is SD Formatter:

(Link leads to the SD Association, of which I have no affiliation.)
If you have a card adapter, format it there instead of while inside the phone. Good luck
You suggestion is right.
Correctly formatting the card first generally solves most of the problems.
However, most high class micro SDHC cards will probably drain too much current from the phone. You have to find a really serious brand, and a really good one.
I've tried the posted formatting tool. Is there a setting or something I'm missing? After an hour of formatting, nothing, same problem.
I put the card in a 3 year old blackberry curve I had before the HD2, and no problem. I then put an 8gb class 6 card I had in that same blackberry into my HD2 and it worked fine.
I'm trying not to have to return this card because I don't want to wait another week and a half for back shipping etc.. Please give me some hope
