TyTn II New Chipset ROM Upgrade? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Okay, so I've been told that my HTC TyTn II has a newer chipset(which if i use the current rom release, my keyboard doesnt always work), and I want to know when HTC is going to release a 6.1 ROM for my phone? Anyone have a timeframe? You'd think it would be at the same time as other chipsets, but no. Any info is appreciated.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

The responsibility is HTCs to supply you with the correct version
If you register the details of your TyTN II (assuming it's a HTC branded one) on their eClub website, it should offer up a download matched to your exact model. Be careful to enter exactly all the correct numbers or you may end up with a downloaded version for the wrong language or worse.

im registered with htc eclub, and it says tytn ii, but the latest rom upgrade is from back in february.. nothing as of late.

okay there is no chipset upgrade ... you still have the same crappy piece of **** drivers that you had before. Instead of trying to download the official wm6.1 rom from htc give one of the cooked wm6.1 roms a shot as imo they are soooo much better.
But if you are looking for improved graphics/video drivers than i suggest you don't hold your breath on it.

im not worried at all about graphics drivers, i just want my keyboard and touchscreen to work every time I use it. I've tried many roms, and they all do the same thing, non-responsive every now and then

HTC Home Plugin and WM6.1 from O2

Hi All,
A new person on here and to HTC. I opted for the TYTN II and have found it fantastic (except for those bright days when I cant see the screen outside) However, I rather foolishly rushed into upgrading the OS to WM6.1 when O2 released it. Now my Home Plugin freezes the device and I need to Hard Reset it. Anyone found a way around this or am I the only one....
Using HTC TYTN II, CE OS 5.2.19212 (Build 19212.1.0.3)
Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.
If all else fails does anyone know how to reset back to the original WM6 as I have read that even if I can go back, the "bugs" I now have will still be there.
Thanks in advance
I think there are several home plugin versions, which one are you using?
Why not upgrade to a Cooked ROM?
Check out this Wiki pages for the Kaiser, there are some ROM Flashing FAQ's and guides. And all other useful posts are in the "Getting Started" in my Sig.
In case you feel like asking "which one?", just try one and see what you think if you don't like it, try another until you find one you like, or you can just go back to the Stock O2 ROM if you really arn't happy, but I bet you will be.
As a freebie I'd say try Hang Tuah's ROMeOS 4.1

Do you often charge for this sort of information, and how much is the going rate?
Hi
Thanks for that, I thought I was using the HTC Home Plugin 2.1 not too sure if it was the N2A fix tho..
I have tried other "Home" but really like this one as its sleeky and goes so well with the TYTN II with good sized icons.
Do you have any ideas why this one wont work or if there are any others around with a good "TouchFlo" feel to them.
Thanks too about the ROM flash info - very exciting - would love to try it but as I only have the one Xda I dont want to destroy it just yet ( I do have a rather cavalier approach to tinkering and it tends to get expensive)
Thanks All.

Now I"m not sure what all those numbers ar efor but I know the R is for radio!!
I got lost after reading that bit... I was going to try to upgrade it myself but got confused so I stopped... trying and thought I'd wait till an update was available from HTC...
Well it seems its not to me anyways...

Exactly! Having been there, done that and decided to go back to WM 6.0, in my effort to help a fellow person from 'down under', I can tell targ that if he uses (or expects to use) Tomtom or GPS at all on the device, he'd better be very patient at waiting for satellite locks under WM 6.1.
Although HTC have improved some of their WM 6.1 upgrades by using a newer Radio, I've tried the latest WWE version and it's still far short of what my original WM 6.0 implementation achieved as far as GPS performance is concerned. Once you upgrade to 6.1 it's quite a task to go back to WM 6.0 (the spl needs reverting too) so I had HTC do that on my device under warranty.
Yup tried reading that...
got lost as to what I need to match to what!!!
Like I said I'm looking for a some help to do this .
I"ll have another crack at it though see if I can make sense of any of it...

Have a look at this thread about *hopeless* GPS after 6.1 update
The problem seems fairly widespread with TyTN II WM 6.1 updates. Since the ROM and Radio on your device seem to be from the Rogers network (as listed in the xda-dev wiki), that may explain why the generic HTC upgrade doesn't work for your device (only genuine HTC TyTN IIs will run the HTC upgrade as-is).
If you're just wanting to upgrade to WM 6.1 because it's the latest, you may be disappointed!
Useful!
I was browsing forum trying to see should I upgrade my stock 6.0 ROM to 6.1. Now I am sure that I will wait for couple more months (weeks?) !
I'm inclined to wait until the next ROM and Radio release has been tested/reviewed
I'm inclined to let someone else be the guinea pig regarding fixing the broken GPS. When a new ROM/Radio Combination is released on HTC eClub/Support, I'll check here to see how reports about GPS performance look and then when I'm sufficiently sure it's not still broken, will again jump over to WM 6.1.
Once bitten, twice shy and I don't want to have to get HTC to revert it to WM 6.0 again!

I had the same experience and reverted back to 6.0 roms. BUT I've recently been using Garmins WM6.1 DK3 with radio 1.65.17.56 and the GPS fix is always quick and strong - Works all over UK. This setup may be worth considering.

I want to keep it all official HTC and not have to use hardspl at this stage, besides I prefer the look of the original HTC setup (themes, icons etc) over the customised Garmin DK3. The latest official HTC ROM for the device uses the same radio as you're using and I was far from satisfied with its reception instability compared to the old WM 6.0 setup. I've sent a letter to the big cheese at HTC so will wait and see what happens!
Flying Kiwi,
What do you mean "Rogers network" (WTF) I bought a HTC Tytn II from a Retailer. surely this is not a fake HTC??
Should I be looking at taking it back?
Does this mean I don't have any Warrenty?
This would be why HTC said that the Upgrade is not a suitable for my unit... going by the S/N!!
What am I to DO now.
As for the GPS issue some seem to be having no real issue with cooked roms.
AS I live in Australia would I need to get a diff radio then say you in the UK?
I"m rather intrested in the L26 TL ROM of Leo's
And if I understand it correctly I need to
1. run jump SPL
2. then flash the SPL that suits the rom I go for.
3. flash the Radio
4. Flash the ROM I have choisen.
Then hard reset.
IS that right?
or have I got the order wrong or missed a step.
Just trying to make a simple as I can..
Would my location and carrier make a difference as to which SPL, ROM, RADIO I use.
OH yeah !
What Does the R, D, and G mean...
Well, I finally did my first ROM change (to 6.1) and have to say I don't have any problems at all.
I have a T-mobile Vario 3, that although everything worked, I always found slow and buggy.
I went for Sleuths 6.1 V3 ROM, simply because I was a hermes user before and his stuff was always flawless.......and I was proved right again.
It's really simple to do, contains the correct radio (much better than the shipped one), and is really fast and stable. Had it a week and used it intensively - no problems with Tomtom or GPS - the same, if not better than it was before.
I would suggest, if you're not sure which one to go for then try this and see if it suits you.
Ok I tried to use the link in the WIki to the Jump SPL the latest one that only needs you to follow the on screen info..
And well according to the on screen prompts it must be done but as for the unit its self I don't hink so as nothing really happened on it... I"m thinking that the wizard does not like Vista or it does not like Sync Centre.
anyone able to help me out ....
No WTFs reqd after-all

Your Radio (R) is the same as that used by Rogers on their WM 6.0 ROMs. But you're right, I missed the bit about your 1.82 series ROM though so it looks more like you have the 3rd one down the wiki list of HTC WM 6.0 ROMs here and not the first: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs

Not if it currently works as you need it to but you could see what their explanation for why there is no WM 6.1 upgrade for your device yet is. HTC in Australia should also be able to advise you http://www.htc.com/au/about_htc.aspx?id=21840

And some are so are you willing to take that risk as a newbie and get stuck with a non-original non-warrantable installation thats not straight forward to revert back to original WM 6.0 if it plays up for you? Pass on the Radios but if history is anything to go by, there are a few different ROMs on that wiki page released for Australia. If you do a bit of searching around here I think you'll find cases of peoples non-Australian purchased TyTN IIs having problems when used there as well. I can't recall what the issues were but there definitely were issues (months ago before WM 6.1 came out on the Kaiser). Perhaps a search for Australia just in the Kaiser General or Kaiser ROM Dev forums may yeild results.
Thanks heaps I'll follow your leads Cheers

I complained to HTC in person about reliability issues with the HTC TyTN II WM 6.1 'upgrade that was more of a downgrade' (pausing, GPS perfomance issues, phone not ringing when calls came in - these were just some of the issues I experienced) and they reverted it all for free under warranty for me. Even though I still have the original WM 6.0 ROM, the Radio and SPL (other code programmed onto the phone) are slightly newer & fix a few bugs with the original setup so my device is now super reliable. Why not give that a try? Even if they won't revert it, there'll still be ways of doing it yourself if needed but if your phones under warranty and you're experiencing problems with their setup, really it should be up to them to fix it for you. Let us know how you get on.
ya those dicks wont downgrade it for me. can anyone show me steps to downgrade to 6.0 maybe even 5.0? ?

Why not, what did they say and which country HTC (you've not filled in your country or network on the User Control Panel/Profile)? You won't be able to downgrade to WM 5 because the TyTN II only came out with WM 6.0 or 6.1 but if you read the wiki, all the info you need to do it is in there. People here won't hold your hand through it, you'll need to do your own research and make sure you understand fully so you don't make a mistake. If it's a reliable WM 6.0 setup you're after on a WWE HTC TyTN II Kaiser (ie HTC Branded), then the components in my sig are a good combination other than very occasional sluggish keyboard responses when typing.
ok but before i downgrade can i ask you a quick favor? can you donwload the latest version of pocket gba and tell me if it freezes when loading a rom for you?

Now I have my TyTN II set up as I like it (by and large), I'm not looking to do any ROM 'loading'... I'm not even sure what that means in fact. If your program is WM 6.0 compatible and you don't have any other conflicting software it should work on the native WM 6 HTC ROM but as you haven't answered all the other questions about what you currently have, it's hard to say if it'll work for you. Maybe someone else more familiar with this product knows about its general compatibility.
dot dot dot >>;;;xD pocketgba is a emulator a program not a rom -.-; the only reason wHy i want to downgrade is because i wanna know if it works with 6.0 b/c it freezes on 6.1
so let me tell you it works, but doesn't work well. there is no gba emu for kaiser which can play games with decent fps.
I have a similar problem I'm out of warranty so no use going to HTC they said they'd only put the latest which is 6.1 as they are contractually obliged by law - so where would I get hold of wm6.0 so I can revert mine back from 6.1 to 6.0?

There are WM 6.0 ROMs accessible through a link on the wiki (a chart that shows different ROM versions with their matching Radios). You'll need to read up to know what you're doing first, otherwise if you don't want the hassel, pay a phone repair shop to do it for you.

I think they mean contractually obligated to Microsoft. They piss and moan about anybody offering any Windows based rom for any longer than they are contracted to. This means new or older roms.

That's even more annoying The same company that lets HTC sell a product with their OS on it and doesn't even insist it has full driver support first. Given they allowed the device to come out with WM 6.0 once upon a time, it should be up to the manufacturer to put the most reliable ROM for the customers needs on the device and if that means the latest isn't the greatest then either fix the latest or use another version.
The bottom line is HTC can get away with doing this if they want to, I know through personal experience.

...you really thought that HTC would do that!? If you thought that you were a dreamer! They like to sell new phones and not an old phone like the Kaiser
Windows Mobile 6.5 works on QVGA?
Out of interest, are any of the devices that will 'officially' be running Windows Mobile 6.5 QVGA? From what I see, the versions of 6.5 cooked into ROMS here are tweaked to fit on the smaller 320x240 screen - but the Touch Diamond 2 and Pro 2 are both WVGA devices with an 800x460 screen resolution aren't they?
If the 'proper' version of 6.5 is designed to work on VGA devices or better only, it's not surprising that HTC aren't planning on offering upgrades to older devices that don't support the higher resolutions. Sure, it can be made to work on older handsets - but not in the way Microsoft probably envisioned for their new release...
I might be wrong and I have my asbestos "flame-proof" jacket on, so I'm ready for the backlash
Actually, Microsoft has said that it will allow official upgrades on current 6.1 devices as long as they have a 400mhz processor and 128mb ram (plus the windows start key). The Kaiser meets all of those requirements, so it is eligible for an upgrade, but that would be at the discretion of HTC/carriers. I doubt that we will ever see an official upgrade due to the age of the Kaiser, but you never know.
More importantly, though, is whether it even matters. Do we even need an official 6.5 for the Kaiser to build off of, or can we do an equal/better job with the dumped 6.5 roms already being ported to our phone? I guess that would be a question I would put to our chefs out there.
Would it really be an 'upgrade' though if HTC provided it?
If the HTC Official WWE WM 6.1 'upgrade' for the TyTN II is anything to go by, I'd run a mile from any HTC provided WM 6.5 release for the TyTN II anyway. Apart from the fact there were so many bugs in the official WM 6.1 upgrade when compared to the relatively stable WM 6.0, it's clear from HTCs continual refusal to provide full (not partial) graphics driver support for even much newer devices, that they don't learn lessons from the past (or if they do, they don't act on them).
Given the TyTN IIs age now, I suspect if there was a further upgrade to come even the apprentice programmers' time would be considered to valuable for such a task and GPS, graphics performance and things like screen flashes when coming out of standby (all things still not fixed after nearly a year since the first WM 6.1 upgrade was released) would take a very low priority. I could be proven wrong but I don't have much faith that the HTC leopard would change its spots

I hope people don't misinterpret what I wrote, I believe the TyTN II was groundbreaking in its day and it certainly offered the right combination of features that other devices didn't have together in the one package. The problem is that there are a number of inexactitudes when comparing the actual device with all the advertising that was out for the device when first released (what I relied on for my purchase decision). Both advertiising from HTC and from Qualcomm the chip maker. Since then I've seen no indication that HTC is interested in maximising all the potential in this device to try and live up to those advertising claims and if anything their UK released ROM upgrade for my device actualy makes it worse. It's a sad state of affairs where a buggy 'upgrade' still hasn't been fixed nearly a year later and I'm fed up with sending letters to HTC which aren't listened to (not to mention the thousands of online petition signatories requesting full driver support for the embedded hardware actually on the device).
As someone who has worked as a computer technician I can tell you it is truely scandalous to release a product complete with an OS that doesn't have full driver support for embedded graphics acceleration and any full sized PC provider would not get away with it. Not only then but also the fact they haven't since come along with an update to address these concerns - hence my lack of faith in this company.
I would assume HTC's refusal to release system drivers would have to do with NDA's they signed with the various component manufacturers. I'm also relatively new to the world of XDA (but not winmo), so I would assume that this topic has been discussed to death on this site before.
@Flying Kiwi: I only had the Hermes for three weeks before I found a kickin deal on a Kaiser, but I have to agree it was a good phone. However, the upgrade to the Kaiser from the Hermes was worth the little extra I paid, if only for the gps and increased ram.
Not to get off topic, but does anyone else find Age of Empires to be incredibly addictive on a PDA?

HTC Official ROM - question.

Hi there
I posted this in another thread, but got no reply? So I have started another thread hoping for better response.
I do not normally get any answers or replies on this forum for some reason, hopefully i will be more lucky with this post.
I have just bought a used Touch Diamond, and was looking at downloading and upgrading the system with the official ROM upgrade from HTC, (Diamond_HTC_WWE_1.93.405.1)
It doesn't give you that much info on the HTC site, and I was wondering if
1 - it will be WM 6.5?
2 - It say 'Orange' ROM, would this revert the phone back to Orange only sim settings, or would I still be able to use my O2 sim card? The phone is 'Orange' branded but unlocked.
Thank you and here's hoping for help.

I don't think 1.93.405.1 is the current official ROM from HTC. There has to be a newer one like 2.03. xxxxxxxx
Anyway the newest ROM for Diamond is still WM6.1. There is no official WM6.5 ROM.
If your diamond is simlock-free then you can use the orange-ROM with other providers. I had the official ROM from O2 and used it with a T-Mobile-SIM-card without problems.
The only thing is that the provider-settings are false. But there are tools to configure this.
Or you use the official HTC-ROM without branding:
www.htc.com => support
There are also good custom-made ROMs.
Good luck.
Thank you for your reply.
I have tried a couple of ROMs since I got the phone, but there always little niggles with many of them. At the moment I am using a 'BsB Ultimate 6.6' ROM which is quite good, but I would like one with the animated weather reports (the windscreen wiper) and the book like image viewer that you can flick through.
Any idea which I am looking for by that description please?
Thank you
Steve
P.S. Oh and maybe I should mention that i am the O2 network so if there is an O2 ROM available, that would be a bonus.

It's with Sense 2.1 wich runs really good. A network-wizard to setup your provider settings is integrated.
